Good Morning all. Thinking of my dad this morning and the years of service he did during WWIi. He was in the Army, but because he suffered from leg cramps, was kept stateside serving at Ft. Sill, OK. They will be having a Memorial Day parade here this morning. I remember all the parades I marched in as a Girl Scout in my hometown. That parade was as much as 2 hours long.
Sunny here this morning. Will be out getting some things into the trailer, finishing up my truck bed storage project, and doing other things this week in prep for leaving Saturday. Want to make sure my grass is cut and trimmed and of course need to go shopping for food supplies etc. Going to be a busy week.
Kelly, I sent you a PM. Hope you all have a nice holiday wherever you are or whatever you do.

Good morning! A really soggy start to my day! Storms moved in about 9 last night and went on for several hours! Sun is out now and I'm waiting to hear from son to see when he's ready to go to the property to work on some things at new house. Plus I've had their rottie for the last several days and need to drop him off at his house. Interesting having 3 big dogs around all week end! Funny how my guys are intimidated by little dogs but they intimidate this guy! It gets funny to watch but by yesterday they were playing together!
It's been a busy few days with running here and there. My "other son" and wife were here so got to spend some time with them plus he supposed to stop on his way back home to pick up the old stereo equipment for a friend of his. Happy to give it to someone that can use it plus one more batch of things out of the house!! Dinner last night with young son and his family. Plus got to visit with daughter in law's parents. I've got to get this house vacuumed too! Dog hair all over the place! So that'll happen in between a batch of appointments I have this week!
Sue, glad you got your TT back and are getting ready for your trip! Alice, glad you are getting out and enjoying your new RV! Velda, I'm thinking and sending good thoughts your way for you and Mel.
Well, time to load up the extra dog and head out. Have a safe Memorial Day. Thanking all vets including Dad and DH.

Good morning gals!
I paid a visit to my mom's grave site last night and had a nice "chat" with her. No one in my immediate family was in the military due to physical issues. My uncles on my mom's side were tho (WWII).
Have a friend coming over to help dewinterize the camper this morning. Got an extension cord yesterday so I can plug in to the house and get the batteries charged up.
Cool and cloudy today with possible rain off and on. Lots of things to do in the camper and getting my little Jeep cleaned out and the tape residue removed from the plastic I had duct taped over the back window.
Might go out to eat tonight with my brother and his wife. Stopped at their house the other night to see him and he is doing really well!
Hope you all have a good day!

My dad was in the Army during World War II and transferred to the Air Force when it was formed. I guess he was in Wichita Falls during the war because I don't remember anyone talking about him being anywhere else. After the war he was stationed in Japan for a year and some time later in North Africa. We always got parked at grandmother's when he was out of the country. I don't think my mother could have coped being in a foreign country with 4 little kids. She had a hard enough time with him just being gone.
Last night it sounded like we were getting a lot of rain but the rain gauge only had 1/4 inch. There is still a lot in Texas and the Gulf so we might get more.
Ava, don't you wish the crystals were diamonds. lol I wanted to bring my younger son to the state park where you can look for diamonds but we never made it. He liked to watch Scooby Doo and they were alway looking for treasure so he thought there was treasure to be found.
I didn't think about getting something to cook for Memorial Day so guess we will have left overs.

Campground is slightly emptier today and a LOT quieter! Cannot believe how many people play music outdoors in campgrounds. I am trying to decide if I want to go out and dump my tanks and refill water, or if I can wait until tomorrow. See how lazy I am?
Son called last night and asked if I was 76! No, not quite. I am 73 and will be 74 next month, but I gave him a hard time for overestimating my age.
My sons are notorious for forgetting my birthday or celebrating it too early because even though they are now in their 40s, they can never remember exactly when it is. (Youngest one called me once two days before my birthday and apologized for missing it.) Luckily, their wives have taken on some of that remembering now.
Supposed to sprinkle a little later on, but right now it is 68 and sunny with a nice breeze coming through my windows. Got work to do, so back at it.

Posting from the lodge here at Peaks of Otter. The campground is just down the road. Since Liz and I are planning to just head north on the Blue Ridge tomorrow about 40 or so miles heading north I am not counting on cell service up the road either. Pictures will need to wait until better cell service and rainy days allow. A few ambitious hikes have been made and in general my legs and lungs are reminding me what 2 months of sitting in front of a computer can do to stamina at this gray haired lady stage. Camping in the mountains means even the campground has some steep slopes...
Will check in when conditions permit or Liz will notify you of where to find my collapsed body.

Way past morning, but wanted to stop in & say Hi to everyone.
Drove down to Huntington dog beach this morning. Grey, overcast & cool - perfect weather for the beach in my opinion. Sadie definitely enjoyed romping with the other pups.
We're visiting preschools for Miss Olivia. She's getting a 2-year-old attitude lately so it's time. She didn't want to leave the last one that we were touring so my son told her if she didn't want to go with us, she'd have to stay with the teacher who was showing us around. Slowing & cautiously she offered her little hand to the teacher. She's ready! I'll miss my daily dose of this precious girl, but it is time. And now, maybe I'll be able to get away once in a while.
Flying to TX for granddaughters graduation this coming weekend, afterwards hitching a ride up to KS with son to work & show my face in the office during the week, then our first ever family reunion with my siblings & their families the following weekend. We're renting out a whole camp at Council Grove lake! We now number 96 - can't wait to be with everyone & hold the new babies. Hoping for good weather - at least we all have cabins if mother nature decides to surprise us with a show.
Going to do some catch up here now...
Hope those who are getting too much rain & storms get a chance to dry out & relax a little.
Safe travels to everyone else.
Take care,
Catherine

Judy, I'm the one in the family that can't remember birthdays. I was arguing with my younger son that his birthday was November 19th. It's the 15th and his brother's birthday is July 19th. He won't let me forget about that.
Tina, I camped at one of the campgrounds on the Blue Ridge Parkway and had to climb a hill by the campground to get cell service. It might have been where you are camped. It was a pretty good hike for someone not use to hiking.

We had a quiet day here at home with nice weather. Mel's smoked pork butt was as good as usual. Always good for a few days of leftovers which makes things easy. We both liked the Cauliflower and Coleslaw salads but son not so much. Nothing new there.
I have military family going back to the Civil War where one GG Uncle was a forager for Gen Sherman. My Dad was a Marine who spent time in Hawaii during the war then as occupation force after it ended. Mels Dad was Army. Both of us Navy. I guess you could say it was in my genes to serve and I really enjoyed it, ESP the souvenir I brought back from Morocco (MEL)! LOL
Supposed to maybe have a shower Wednesday, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Have a good week all.
Velda
