Frigid Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Frigid Friday

Postby Queen » Fri Jan 13, 2017 7:54 am

Morning all!

We're supposed to get a bunch of ice this weekend, so if anyone is traveling through Illinois, be extra careful. I think it will be a tempest in a teapot, but better to be prepared I guess.

Going to look at an apartment building for 55+ this afternoon. Our current place is requiring we renew our lease for August, by March... and raising the rent to $825. So, we're thinking it might be time to make the move to the other place; it offers an option of applying for reduced rent when we are fully retired, so we could end up with a nice apartment for less than $520 a month. Worth looking into.

Hope everyone has a super day!!

Friday, the 13th

Postby Colliemom » Fri Jan 13, 2017 7:59 am

Good Morning from the 45th,

Anybody suspicious of the number 13, better not get out of bed today. Bit of light lake effect to start our Friday here in the north, but not going to be around long. Will probably see sun later on. Goof off day for me today . Heading to town later to pay truck insurance and then just bum. Want to go look at different cupboard hardware and other stuff for my kitchen. Time to start thinking about how I want to decorate in there. The cupboards don't have any knobs or handles on them. Am taking old wallpaper down that's under the cupboards and not sure if I want to put something else up or just leave it painted. I did see some wallpaper in an RV last fall, that looked so much like tile, that I thought it was real at first. So looking day today.

Anita, getting a chuckle out of your adventures with the clueless guys. Keeps us up on that. Also read about your granddaughter on FB. There are going to be a lot of people in trouble now that congress is repealing the health care law. Moving too fast. Barbie, beautiful pictures of the desert. Pat, congrats on the car sale. Did you get a new one or what? O'Sharon, hear ya about wanting to get out of the house. That's what I am doing today. Need to do something different. Next week is looking fairly decent and a bit mild, so may range out farther. Judy, sounds like you are really content sitting by the beach. Enjoy while you can. Mickie, hope you get some answers from the doctor about the knee issue. Velda, CA certainly is getting pounded. Thought about those folks in the Sierra who are trying to avoid being buried. The banks along my drive are getting about waist high here, so I can imagine what it would be like up there.

Can tell the days are gradually getting longer :D Light here before 8 a.m. now and it's a cloudy morning. Noticing it at night now too. Have a nice day all.

Forgot to give an update about my ortho appointment: the good news, my implant is perfect. The bad news, my knee is so full of scar tissue from the previous five surgeries that this is as good as it will ever get... so I just have to live with it. Oh well, at least it's healthy.

Mornin' Mickie and all that follow ~~~
Yea, I just heard about the icy weekend planned. Good thing my BIL will drive to the RV show. I just need to get to his house  might be a fun ride, but I'm guessing the tollway will be in pretty good shape. The ice from yesterday didn't melt in the all day sun yesterday, so ice will be real thick by the time this is all over. Have I mentioned how I hate winter?

Great news on the knee Mickie. Did the Dr say anything about any surgery that could scrape some of the scar tissue away? If they can do that I guess is the first question.

Last day of class today woohoo! Have a good day ladies and stay safe wherever you are.

Cheryl - Be careful out there!

No on the additional surgery, something about the way I scar (hypertrophic) would just make it worse. The doc is fascinated by the possibility this is all connected to me being an occular albino... that tidbit seems to fascinate all my doc's. LOL

Good morning from -20 Minnesota. Just reinforces my dislike of cold. Good thing we are leaving in ten days for some long awaited warmth and sunshine. January has been tough. One thing that both John and I dislike when we are on the road is at the end of the day, after finding a motel and getting settled in, is to go out and find a place to eat. Takes so much time. This time we have decided to bring our own frozen meals. Most motels have microwaves in the rooms or one in the lobby to use. So now I am planning one dish dinners to cook and freeze in individual portions to have along. Some salad greens and we have our meal. Noon on the road is always a sandwich, veggie sticks and fruit. I hope this leaves us more time for a walk and some relaxation time knitting or embroidery before bed. Sister with leukemia had a long recover period. The oncologist said her health was too precarious to have more chemo and she had to build up her health. The 4th chemo treatment was just administered. And this time her side effects seem to be less which we are all so thankful for. She has a long way to go yet to full health. Two more chemo treatments and then a possible bone marrow transplant. she might not be a candidate for one. Age and health being taken into consideration. It just won't be right not sharing a site with them this year. John has to get to the dentist in Algadones again. I plan to really do nothing but soak up the sun and do my crafts.s Will 5 weeks be long enough to get them all done. Breezie at 15 1/2, totally deaf is still so happy to be on the road. Have a great day all and keep safe in the ice storm forcast for mid country.

I better not tell Harold it's Friday the 13th. He had his Friday the 13th yesterday. I heard a noise and looked out. He was laying on the carport and the truck was rolling down the hill. He got out with the truck in drive and when it started rolling he tried to get back in. It knocked him down. We are lucky it didn't run over him. He only has a couple of abrasions on his arm and a sore hip. It took my son and I both to get him up. The truck could have hit a tree or gone in the ditch but just made a curve and stopped in the middle of the road.

When I traveled with my son to Florida he always wanted to go find a restaurant after we find a campground. My sister is the same way. I hate driving around an unfamiliar town after dark looking for a restaurant. When I get to a campground I want to be in for the night.

I hope the cold front with all the ice doesn't get this far South. It was very foggy this morning but most of it has lifted. I didn't make it to town yesterday but might try again today. We are out of milk so guess I have to go. lol

Martha, that is downright scary. I'm glad Harold is ok. I was holding my breath reading that. Also glad the truck didn't get damaged.

I have no plans for today. Still laying in bed  But I best get moving and walk Peaches soon.

Just got back from riding my bike 3 miles into Flagler Beach for the Farmer's Market. Bought too much and barely made it back with all my packages of vegetables hanging from my bike! So just had a sandwich and some fresh strawberries, and will have a big salad with some hard-boiled eggs in it for dinner!

Fun to watch the surf, but glad it is not very windy, so my awning is up and not even flapping. Nice! Plus, I have not seen a single mosquito or other biting insect. I am almost recovered from the last batch of bites, so want to stay away from getting more.

I went for a two-hour kayaking tour yesterday, so my shoulder, neck, and arm muscles are really sore. Going back out for more bike riding later today, so will probably REALLY be sore tonight!

Morning is gone, barely, but just read Martha's post and like Beth was holding my breath reading it. So glad he is ok and truck too !! My youngest grandson was not so lucky couple years ago, fell out of car and front wheel ran right over the full length of him, why his head and body was not totally crushed , it was truly a miracle. He was bruised everywhere, but nothing broken. He and his sister are giving me or at least trying to, a hard time right now. Oh right, it's Friday 13th !! :( and I'm not doing to well

Not sure when I last was on here, but in reading today find you all are really busy or well occupied. Some of these temps have given me chills :D I loved the pic of Peaches !!

Cloudy sky here, misty this morning but sun has been out. An undecided day, weather not sure what it's going to do. Temp is just right for me. I'm hoping the week end will be nice though, as my dd has plans with her children.

Stay warm, dry and safe,
CArol

Judy, have you ever thought about getting panniers(sp?) for your bike? We've got electric bikes (Pedegos -- LOVE 'em!), and have them. They've come in handy on several occasions. Think of saddle bags for your bike.

BTW ... what kind of electric bike do you have?

CArol, I found out today how close the truck came to running over him. He has 2 blood blister on the side of his little finger where the tire pinched it. He was just damn lucky. He is still arguing with me that the truck wasn't in drive. I'm the one that got it out of the road and it was in drive. Our carport has enough of an incline to make the truck roll back.

Cheryl - you, I'm the oddball chick with the cool, or bizarre eyes, depending on how you see these things. :D

Martha - Good grief!! So glad Harold is okay! What is it with guys, my dad wasn't really involved in a carpentry project unless he was bleeding somewhere.

Yes, I too am so thankful Harold escaped serious injury with that mishap. Scary indeed!

Tina and I went kayaking today. We paddled the length of Cross Creek that connects Orange Lake to Lake Lockloosa. Beautiful creek lined with Cypress trees.

My grandson is coming tomorrow afternoon to spend a couple of days. I will need to take him fishing...that is his new favorite pastime.
