Freezing Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Freezing Friday

Postby Colliemom » Fri Jan 06, 2017 6:56 am

Morning all,

Bit chilly out there. Around 3 degrees with windchill of -12. But I've been in much colder. Nice thing is, the winds died down after Wednesday's snow and whiteout conditions. We actually had a pretty quiet day yesterday and the Winter Storm Warning was dropped. As is theWeather Advisory for today. No, Carolb, I'm not snowed in, it was such a nice quiet morning yesterday, that I was out cleaning up around here, feeding the birds and talking with neighbor.

I was also busy in here, as I painted my bedroom ceiling on Wednesday and then yesterday after I got the snow done, painted the walls. So now all three bedrooms are done, other than painting my closet. I'm enjoying transforming this house into mine and have 3 more rooms to repaint. Good projects for winter. Today I plan to rehang pictures etc., but first Piper and I need to go to vet for her booster shot.

Sounds like the gals at Hardee Lakes are enjoying themselves and the mini GTG in Tucson was fun as well. Hope I get to some this year too.

So have a nice day everyone, whether at home or GTG's. Safe travels if on the road, keep warm in the cold areas and prayers for those with health issues or family members with them.

Morning Sue, and all who follow!

C-c-c-cold here this morning!! -3 but like Sue said, the wind has stopped, so that's a big plus.

Wish I was at the Tucson mini-gtg, I'd see if everyone wanted to head to Tiny's (corner of Ajo and Kinney) for a cheap steak and a cold beer. Fun place.

Sue:

What are your secrets for interior house painting in the winter?

Whenever I paint, I need to have all the doors and windows open because of the smell and the paint fumes - so I am usually house painting in the summer. In winter I would worry about the fumes igniting in my furnace and causing an explosion! (Maybe I worry too much) .

Would love to get some painting done when the weather is bad - when the weather is good, I want to be outside!

What are your tips?

Thanks.

Cold here, too, because I am at my son's house in Ohio. Had a late Christmas with the grandkids yesterday, which was fun, and now am going out to get some new glasses ordered.

Snow is pretty, but I like warmer places better!

Anne, I don't know what paint Sue uses, but they have some low odor paint these days, and no chance of causing a fire from fumes. Check out various paint places.

Good morning all! Sue, we're having the same weather as you now, I think! Not quite as cold here today but there's always tomorrow! Was doing to just go out and do the sidewalk but figured I was already out and cold so did the driveway too! The gloves I grabbed are not good for prolonged time in the cold so back to the old ratty ones. Sure glad I didn't toss them!

Mickie, you and Mary are going to have such fun looking for a RV or TT! Can't add much to the conversation other then don't stress about it and that you'll know it when you see it! JudyJB, may be cold in Ohio but on the upside there aren't any bugs to make you miserable! Sounds like Hardee Lake gtg is in full swing and having a good time. And mini gtg in Tucson. Just never know when and where!

Now that I've thawed out I think I'll bundle back up and go out back and tackle that part of the driveway! Besides the faact I need the exercise! Have a fun day and be safe.

Sharon - when we moved to FL it was supposed to be permanent, so we donated almost every item of cold weather gear we owned, gloves, scarves, hats, coats (even my best down coat), boots... It's been expensive replacing all that, and I really miss some of my old stuff, it was all broken in and comfy!

gmorning all :)

Also in the deep freeze here. Have managed to keep busy inside, but feel the need to get out for a little while. The sky is clear blue, & sun is shining brightest it has in days:)

Mickie, don't know if you're too fussy, but I get so much stuff at thrift stores. Find a good one, then look for good quality things, & save $ big time:) Washable clothing of course, & it goes directly into washer when I get it home. I know many of us do this, but others just can't--my cousin is one of them, & she gives me a hard time! I'm surprised she even hangs around with me cuz I might have cooties

So I've made a pot of French onion soup & having cousin over for dinner tonight. Soup weather for so many of us!

Y'all have a great day & be safe always 8-)

"Cooties" hahahaha!!

I don't mind thrift stores, but I wear a guys XL (I'm tall and fluffy) so there's not very much in my size at the stores around here. But we do have Farm and Fleet, a Midwestern chain of general stores that have good quality cold weather gear at very decent prices. I found long johns on sale for $4, and even got a Columbia knit hat for $7!!

I am on a wild goose chase this morning! I still have't gotten the title for my little trailer yet. I need that in order to sell it. I lost the copy of the previous owners title so don't have the VIN # for it. I know that title transfers got processed in late November (yes, MN is a bit slow! ) but still haven't gotten anything. I tried calling the DMV but just got recordings. I sent an email now, so hopefully will hear something back from that...

I ordered something on line last week and forgot to change the order to my new address so it is being sent to my old address in MN. Originally I was told it was going by US Mail, so was on the phone this morning trying to track it thru them but no luck. Now I find out it is being sent by UPS and being delivered today. I texted the apartment complex and told them to have them return to sender. So am hoping that gets done.

Off to work this afternoon so hoping that goes better. Not liking the new clippers I bought so will need to return them this week and find something better, again. Second pair I have bought in the past two weeks.

Those of you up north, stay bundled up! Brrrrr! Don't miss that cold stuff at all!

Have a good day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Carolb, I was thinking you might have Cooties. lol I don't have the patience to go through things at a thrift store. They would sell more stuff if they would size things. The prices at the Goodwill are almost as high as I can buy things on clearance at the mall.

I went and got my hair cut this morning. The weather is cold and raining. It was 40 when I got up and now it's 38. I bet it's sleeting across the middle of the state. They are saying 26 tonight. I sure hope it doesn't get that cold. Harold is driving me crazy with the thermostat. If we set the temperature to 75 it gets down to 73 before it kicks back on and then runs until it's 78 until it shuts off. I can't make him understand that the temperature it says is what is temperature is in the house. If you push the button it tells you what the setting is. So we are either cold or hot. When I got back from town he had turned it off. It's going to be a long winter.

The news says there was a shooting at the Ft Lauderdale air port. There is no way I would fly anywhere now. The lady that cuts my hair is a member of the Cattle-women and her son shows calves. She told me that 10 of the 4-H kids and 5 parents are going to Washington DC for the inauguration. I would not let my kid go to that and I wouldn't go either. No telling what will go on.

It's very cold here also in No. Central CA - beautiful bright blue sky, no clouds but COLD here.

I would love to go to an inauguration especially this one but it's a shame there are some people that ruin anything or anyplace they go to just to make trouble. Anyway, I don't like crowds and can see it on TV.

It was 29 early this morning in the Sacramento CA region but is now 49,so not bad. I'm headed to Curves and pharmacy, after a morning watching news out of Florida. I don't fly anymore, never did like the few flights I had to take years ago. Rain expected in by tonight and high creeks and rivers. Now what kind of kayak was it you liked? Ha ha, we are high and dry at our place. Have a good evening all.
