Stormy Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Stormy Thursday

Postby Othersharon » Thu Aug 11, 2016 7:21 am

Good morning to everyone. Last night was quite something around here, a storm came through and it was loud and bright! Couldn't find Doodles and finally looked in the downstairs bathroom and there he was in the bathtub! What? I usually have to lift all 80 pounds of him into the tub for a bath! So I just left him there until it was time for bed. Getting him outside wasn't even a possibility! And it looks like a repeat today! Twice the power went out, just long enough to mess up the clocks on the oven and microwave! The grass is saying thank you, I'm sure!

I spent yesterday with a friend running around. We picked up 2 outside rockers she wanted so I have them in my car right now. I'll get them over to the fair next week for her. Then lunch at Red Lobster before some other errands. A good day!

Not sure what I'll get into today. I did manage to get the front door trim painted the other day but the weather turned on me so quit that. The more I did, the more I saw that needs a new coat of paint! So guess that'll have to wait until we get some dry days! Inside chores today. Sounds like lots of trips planned. Sue, hope you are able to get your trip in! Carolb, how are the veggies doing? Getting ahead of you?

Well, that's about it for me. Coffee is done so need to get dressed and get a move on. I hope everyone has a good day and travel safe. Will be thinking about Peggy tomorrow!

Morning O'Sharon and all,

Wish you could send some of that rain back here Sharon. Been almost two weeks since we have had any and even that wasn't much. Another sunny, warm day again. Normal highs are around in the upper 70's and we broke a record yesterday at 89  as to my trip, this week, I cancelled. Too warm to be parked in a shameless campsite. No plans to go anywhere till just before Labor Day weekend into week after.

This morning I am heading to Lowes as need some trim lumber for edge of closet. Converted a small not very deep closet into a shoe, hat, gloves storage area and since new shelves are wider than old ones, Bifold door no longer usable. So am converting it to a French door. Saw online how couple ladies did one and figured if they could, so could I.

Judy, downsizing has worked really well. It s a bit of a challenge planning where to put some things, but gradually it's getting organized. I have gotten rid of so much stuff over the years since my dad passed, that I really don't have that much. And I have decided to sell my really good China, so that has left me with an empty kitchen cabinet for instance. Closets are all in the bedrooms, so am having to convert one as I said above, by the side door and also put up hooks along the walls for jackets etc. when I come in he door. Sometimes thinking RV mode is a good thing. I'm looking for used cabinets for my den and plan to put a piece of Formica counter across them to make a desk. Good storage place too. Also there is a basement here with lots of storage , workshop, craft area etc.

Time to get a move on here before tbhat temp creeps up. Y'all have a good day.

Lol!! Autocorrect??

Lots of heavy storms overnight with up to 8 inches of rain in some places, so lots of flooding. We "only" got about 3-4 inches here. Haven't gone down to the beach yet to see what happened there but my kayak is now on a new kayak rack up off the ground and safe, so no worries there.

Doing a couple haircuts at home today and more cleaning, organizing and purging, the kitchen this time.

Have a great day! :D

Sue, you will get rain soon! I'm experiencing the lower end of the storm Barbie described, but it is not so strong here--no lightening and thunder, just a nice steady rain for the past couple of hours. The top part is headed right for you. It also seems to be dropping the temps a bit also from 90 yesterday to maybe 86 today and 81 tomorrow. My AC ran off and on all night, which I hate because of the noise and the air blowing right on me. Course the very loud trains coming by all night and blowing their whistles several times are the really noisy things! I have never minded the rumble of trains, but these whistles are something else. And the trains are really moving fast, with multiple engines, so they seem especially noisy. If you are outside, you have to wait until they are past to continue speaking, they are that loud. As soon as the rain slows down, I have to move to another spot closer to the river for a couple of days.

Autocorrect is funny. You should have seen the weird messages my granddaughter used to send when she was six and got an iPod with text capacity!!

Since it will be cooler tomorrow, I head for Dubuque IA and the National Mississippi River Museum for the day. Then, I leave very early Sunday from here down to Moline, IL, for a COE lock and dam tour. Will end up late Sunday in Indiana Dunes SP, so am getting closer to Ohio and grandkids.

Warming up again here in northern California and 102 Saturday ! Ugh sure could use the rain you got. I rarely hear from my minnesota son, so at least I get weather reports for there from here!
Sue would love to see photo when you are done, I have two alcoves in my hall I would like to figure out doors for due to their shape with one having washer dryer sticking out a little.
Hope all are having a terrific day. I'm limping along on the iPad one and phone because son is doing updates and maintenance on laptop and my new iPad pro failed!! Covered under warranty but a pain to be without!

Judy, you might want to pay attention to the river you are near since there was torrential rains south of here along the St Croix River and others in that area. Still flash flood warnings for the rising rivers. Not sure where you are but there could be flooding heading down your way from all that rain. You don't want to be too close to the river if it is rising.

I got my morning chuckle picturing a shameless campsite earlier.

We've had our almost daily short storms/rains. Today's seems to be staying in the area. Yesterday's lowered the temps big time, and today's high is only mid 70's. We've had heat this summer, but I think only two nights I've needed my a.c.
