Sweltering Thursday

Gunna be another hot one although some of the western states will be worse, oh Florida humidity at least you are good for the skin lol. Still on a quest for vehicles, originally I was going to buy a used cargo van (for tow) for cash and keep my car for running around while at home in Fl fall and winters. I am now revising that because after looking around I would have to get something with over 150k mi to be in the cash price range I'm in and my present Mazda CX-5 won't be great for taking the new puppy with me places esp as by the time he is 7-7 mo old he will be getting huge. The new idea is to find an older mini van to keep here for me n the dog running around while in Fl and wait until Mar and trade my newish Mazda for a cargo van keeping my original car payment that is already budgeted. I hate shopping for and buying cars...just sayin. I hope everyone has a great day

Laura, those fires look really bad. I'm glad they're not too close to your place!

I'm feeling like myself again this morning, thank goodness! Ten days ago the doctor switched me to a new blood pressure med, and last week the side effects gave me a wild ride. One of them was "mental confusion," so it took me a while to figure out the source of the problem.

In two days I'll have a tea party with my plants. I started the compost tea brewing this morning. Oh, the excitement!

Those of you in the bad heat, come to the coast of Oregon. I've been wearing a sweatshirt every day, especially at the beach.

Good morning ChrisAnn, Louise, Liz & all who follow,

ChrisAnn - Welcome to the group. I drive a Honda minivan & love it - so versatile & comfy. Although I don't need one to cart kids around anymore, i can't imagine life without it. Hope you find something you like.

We survived the wedding. Here's pic of the happy (& beautiful) bride & groom:
Image

Gaby called every shot for this wedding correctly. The venue was perfect. Keeping it small so we wouldn't overwhelm his parents was right on target. The dinner afterwards was probably the best meal I've ever had. I only wish I knew French so I could have communicated with his parents without a translator. But hearing Gaby speak to them in what I'm told was perfect & fluent French did my heart good.

I'm exhausted though. Multiple airport runs each day, figuring out the logistics of transporting folks who didn't have cars. And, of course, trying to be in the middle of each activity has taken its toll. Only 1 son & his 2 kids are still in town so things should calm down now. Look forward to some rest but will miss everyone like crazy.

Going to really take today off & not do much. Maybe catch up on what everyone here is doing... :)
Take care,
Catherine

Just about ready to hit the road here! Finally got everything packed and mostly loaded up. Just have my suitcase and coolers to put in the Jeep now. Got help putting the kayak on the roof of the Jeep earlier. May redo one of the straps that has me a little concerned.

It is cloudy, windy and chilly here this morning! Will start warming up later and be around 80 every day thru the weekend. Some rain possible on Saturday but I really won't complain if I have to spend one day hanging around in my tent, napping and reading!

Next week could be interesting. I have a date with that guy I met on-line, and I am going to look at a basement apartment in a cute little town just west of me. Only $425 per month. I need to find a cheaper place to live since I am having to cut my hours back at work now. So lots to look forward to!

Hope you all have a nice day and those down south, stay cool!!!

I was gone for a week so I've missed a lot here. I was traveling north with a friend and we stayed first two nights at El Capitan along the CA coast. We got out the day BEFORE the awful 4-day fire! Spent the rest of the time up near the little Danish town of Solvang. Right after arriving, the highway was closed in both directions! We saw (and smelled) the billowing smoke every day. Campers evacuated from all campgrounds along the way, so Flying Flags RV Park in Buellton where we were, filled up fast. A lot of ranches, etc. had to move horses and other livestock twice as the fire progressed. One ranch alone had 50 horses. Amazing how folks pitch in for a crisis. Horse trailers arrived from everywhere to help. On the way home we passed the RV park where we had stayed the first two nights and saw where the fire came right down to the highway on both sides and around the RV park. Firefighters saved the park. Let's hear it for first responders! It's been over 100 just about every day since I got home!

Liz, I have been watching your ocean views with great envy, heat indexes here have been 100- 105 for too long. I doubt Elsie would make it that far though. The northern CA and Oregon coasts are my favorite places to visit. Several years ago my Aunt and I bought a park model trailer parked right on the ocean in Brookings, OR at the Beachfront RV Park. For years you were allowed to live there year round, but a month or so after we purchased it they said all permanent rentals were being cancelled. What a disappointment, even though one of my most frightening experiences was there. They had a Tsunami warning and it was right after the horrible one in Sri Lanka. We had just been in Crescent City,CA reading all the newspaper reports abut the one they had there that pretty much destroyed the town in 1964.

I walked the dogs at 6:15 this morning and just got back from the store. I don't plan to go out again until dark!
Catherine your daughter and her husband are a beautiful couple. I hope they have a long and happy life together. I know you will miss everyone when they are gone but will be glad for a rest!

Does anyone know what happened to Judi? Last time she posted she had bought a cottage on the Oregon Coast. I miss hearing from her.

Enjoy your trip Barbie. Pooker glad you are safe! So tragic, all the fires.

Enjoy the day!!

Louise, what happens if you have mental confusion and you don't take blood pressure medicine. I woke up with a headache this morning so have been sitting here with a wet wash cloth on my head. I went in the kitchen to fix my coffee and thought of something I wanted out of the pantry. I open the pantry door and have forgotten what I wanted. So I sit on the stool in the kitchen for a while and I finally remember I wanted a zip lock bag to put ice in for my head.

I don't know what we will do today, no one is moving this morning. A couple of the cats haven't gotten over someone different being in the house yet. Every time they hear a noise they get ready to run.

Liz, I could stand a couple of sweatshirt days but don't think I will see one for 4 or 5 months.

Catherine, glad you made it through the wedding. Your daughter is beautiful.

Barbie, hope your camping trip is fun and you can get some rest without rain.

Martha

Mornin' ladies ~~~
Beautiful wedding pic Catherine. They look so happy. You'll miss them I'm sure, but just someplace new for you to go right? (How's your passport status?) :D

Martha ~ I read somewhere that forgetfulness is expected for every age. Not sure peeps who may be getting older. It's caused by too much stuff to remember nowadays (how many passwords and phone numbers do you need to remember?). Thank goodness for my smart phone. I only remember Dad's phone number because he's had it for 45+ years. :?

Memory is a funny thing. I remembered my grandmother's street and house number when a cousin ask me and I haven't been there since I was probably 8 or 9 years old. I remember the phone number of a company I worked for 20 years ago but don't remember any cell phone numbers except my own. I'm in a bind if I need to call someone and I don't have my cell phone. I have a Rolodex with nothing but user names and passwords in it. That's the only way I can keep up with all that. My mother was good at remembering birthdays. She even knew the birthdays of her nieces and nephews. My younger son still reminds me of the time I was arguing with him that birthday was on the 19th instead of the 15th. His brother's birthday is the 19th.

Martha, you gave me a huge grin! I've forgotten stuff like that too (but last week was different). I just don't do phone numbers, so thank goodness for cell phones! The only ones I remember, other than my own, are my mother's and my aunt's. They're both dead now, but we had to memorize those numbers to pass kindergarten.
