Mixed bag Saturday

Good Morning,

Looks like a mixed bag weather wise here in the north. Rain then clouds and more rain later. That's okay. We need it. Mixed bag day for me too, painting a table for neighbor, touching up nail holes in the walls, vacuming house, and whatever else I get into today. Time to start the last week of things to do before moving day on the 16th, although I will have possession of house on the 13th and will take some things over myself. But want to clean out my cupboards, closets etc. so they will be all nice and ready for new owners.

So that's my agenda for today and actually for the weekend. Hope you all have a nice Saturday today :)

Good Morning!

Sue, it's sort of a mixed bag here today, too. Maybe after a 2nd cuppa I can figure out exactly what I NEED to do before taking a ride. Trying to stretch the clothes out until Tuesday so I don't have to do laundry today.

It has been great fun, but I'm ready to slow the pace - living and driving! I've never broken that many speed laws, but I can say I have done some twisty driving. I knew some were going to be leary of being behind the little ole lady so I wasn't surprised when 1 or 2 pulled out ahead of me at stops. However, when I offered that spot to others, they declined. I also got comments that indicated some were surprised I could keep up. I will not be signing up for any more Medium group rides at rallies, I will stick with the Scenic runs. Parade through town tonight - of course that's when thunderstorm is predicted.

I've been trying to keep up on here, but at the moment not remembering much. Enjoy that you Northerners are getting ready for or already enjoying camping. Texas is certainly a mess and I hope all stay safe.

Make it a great day and stay safe!

Good Morning Everyone !!! Break time here, I've been up for hours and have the biggest job finished I think, now on to other things  I have to take the rv in to have floor redone. It is very weak in several places and I'm afraid I might go through. There is a possibility of a leak, I've been told, where weakest spot is, can't figure that, but in any case, has to be fixed. No trips until then and after, may not be any either, as of course, warranty does not cover any of this. I've been told I will be without it for at least two weeks, I told Rick, I don't have my car anymore, so he said he'd do the best he could. Before anyone says anything, no there is no car rental anywhere close by and doing this floor is enough expense to be honest. So my big job this morning was getting all of the things I thought might tempt sticky fingers out beings it will just be setting at the back of his building. After Sarah's experience, I thought this was a good idea to get my new dump hose, levelers, gps , surge protector, etc. all out of there. Goodness knows after I pay for this, I sure won't be able to replace those things

Anita, I'm glad you're having a good time up there, sorry about the rain but its that time of year and we need it in my area here. Tomorrow is supposed to be an all day rain they're promising us, but then we haven't had all the rain they said in previous days. Beautiful out right now. Had to get out and clean rv out, really early as gets hot quick.

No real news from here, just trying to get things fixed or cleaned here and not doing a very good job of it. Trying to stay off of here, so I can get some things done ;) , have turned tv off too, and when I take a break have been reading on a book, makes for a relaxing few mins. Have quite a few breaks as I can't let my back get to hurting to bad, a 10 min. set down works well. But managing longer spans of work between those breaks and that is what I was hoping for. Now, if I could only get some people out here to repair some things, do have an A/C guy coming next Thursday. But skylight still needs attention, haven't noticed it leaking though when we have our downpours, wondering if maybe its seeping in between roofing and that is a big worry. Except for the pile of stuff to go to the thrift store and the other to go to dump, its about the same here, a wee cleaner but still broken :o

Wishing you all a great week end, those in storm and flooding areas, please stay safe,

Enjoy your week end,
CArol

Good morning ladies
Can't believe its Saturday already! Have had my fill of coffee already, smelling the
smoke from a fire up on the other side of Roosevelt lake. A few chores to get done today and tomorrow we have plans to take the motorhome out for a day trip to the lake for a shakedown, so will get out there and do some dusting. Also need to clean the oven in the house, sprayed it down last night, now the nasty part of the job begins. I'm told its never been done,,,,,,,,I said, " I believe it"
Maggie's little trip to the vet the other day resulted in antibiotics for her teeth and an appt to get a few pulled. The front ones between her canines need to come out, and possibly a back one. Definitely going to take a bite out of my savings but its important to get it done. She got her rabies shot and the vet recommended a distemper-parvo shot. I declined as the vet previously told me they don't need those other shots when
they are past the puppy stage. Now they say yes but I'm not convinced. Do any of you do the distemper shot on older dogs?
Well, its time to get a bath and get started on the day. Y'all have a good day, be safe.

Good morning! Mixed bag here too today! No rain right now but supposed to come in later. At least most of the outside graduations were able to take place! My first grandchild graduated last night but sadly wasn't able to see it. She has "taken sides" and no longer has any contact with her dad and I. My hope is that when she moves out into the world she realizes we aren't the enemy. Okay, enough of that.

Anita, I actually saw an SS up close the other day. We were at a place that does UHaul rentals and they had several of them on display. The guy told us they had sold 6 in the last month so maybe that means we'll be seeeing them on the roads around here! Sue, time is moving fast toward your move! My SIL has a contract on her house now and will soon be moving on to the next phase of her life. We've been checking on the best way for them to get their household up to MA. Right now she's leaning toward having a moving company coming in and moving them. She has a rep coming in Wed. to give her an estimate on doing it that way. It seems like the best way in my mind. Less pressure on daughter and son in law to get here etc!

Had the grandson for a few hours yesterday. We were at his house so went well! He had his "stuff" so didn't get bored! I managed to get to Lowes with him but he grumped the whole time so finished up my errands after his dad came home and took over! By the time I got home it was late afternoon and I did manage to get the yard mowed. It was either that or I would have to rent a goat to get through it! Amazing how fast the grass grows!

Well, that's about it here. Same old, same old. Not sure what I'll get into today. I meant to buy some boxes yesterday at Lowes but grumpy wanted out of there and so forgot to get them! I have some dishes and stuff to get rid of and figure boxing them up will at least be a step that direction! Hope everyone has a good week end and travel safe if you are on the road.

Both Jed & Tilly get all shots, especially because we travel. There are so many opinions on vaccinations, so I'm sure others will wade in as well. I just don't want to be take chances. I asked the vet about doing a blood titre to see if they've got the antibodies, but was told that the titre costs about 3X more than the vaccinations. While I don't skimp where it comes to the dogs (remember when Jed got poisoned? His eye tumor?), I've decided to continue their vaccinations. If their health becomes compromised and shots could cause them greater harm than not vaccinating them, they will become home dogs and not travel with us anymore.

Just stopping in to say, 'Hi!'.
Sue, I wish I could have bought your house - I can only imagine how clean & ready it will be for the new owners. Hope you'll give us a tour of your new place once you're in & settled.
Anita, you sure have been on a whirlwind of travel & activity. Of course, I'm not surprised that you could keep up with the SS group. :D But I'm sure you will enjoy a little downtime after all of this...
Othersharon, so sad about your granddaughter, but you're right once she's out in the world, she'll come to appreciate her family more.
Ava, have fun with that oven. ;)
CArol, hope they get that floor fixed quickly for you.

Nothing too exciting out here. Temps are supposed to heat up but I still only run the a/c for a few hours in the late afternoon- I'm amazed at how it cools down as soon as that sun starts to set. Baby is 10 months now & walks everywhere - still the apple of my eye. Formal wedding for youngest is quickly approaching - things are falling into place. Everyone is slated to be out here in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to having everyone together even if its just for a few days.
Well, I'd better get going...
Take care & have fun!

On vaccinations.... I try to do just enough so that I can board them should I have to. Rabies is a three year to keep us legal. The distemper, etc is a three year though many of the vets will try to tell you that it is needed annually. I believe in the research that have used titers to prove otherwise. With older dogs I avoid any vaccinations that I can. I no longer do Lepto. The vets will back off insisting on the annuals on the parvo and distemper (I think most likely because they have read some of the same research results but don't want to admit it) but the same vets will tell you that the Lepto is needed annually. If you research the Lepto vaccine you will find that it only shows effectiveness with a very few of the multiple strains of Lepto, it is the vaccine that is sometimes least tolerated by dogs and is the least effective. I have skipped it altogether these past few years. I do the vaccine for kennel cough just because the dogs are out and about with me so much to dog shows and traveling and it is one that is required for boarding.

Most of us that have multiple dogs in performance or conformation have found vets that will voice their "recommendations" but will support and respect our choices as owners, knowing that we have researched the issues, have experienced and knowledgable resources that most pet folks don't have and have made decisions based on sound medical reasoning and not just economic reasons.

I have two older house cats that have not been vaccinated for at least 6 years.

Maggies vet the past couple years of her life, advised against anything but the rabies for her, due to her advanced age. He said it had been found to be more harmful then possibly any good. Younger dogs yes, older dogs no. When I mentioned our GTG's etc, he said she is a housedog, she isn't out running with a pack and I imagine the other ladies in the group take care of there babies as much as I did. So she didn't get anything else, and she also got the 3 yr rabies, which she still has a couple yrs to go on that :(

Good morning all (yup I am on here in the morning LOL) I am usually an afternoon kinda gal as I am busy in the mornings then run out of gas after lunch...hmmm maybe I shouldn't eat....NAH.

It is predicted 102 record heat for this day so think I will stay inside with the AC on and continue my quest to clean out my walk in closet so I can actually walk into it ha ha

I do vaccinate my dog for rabies, DHP, and Bordatella because I do board her on occasion. AND I take her to some dog pet areas when camping. I also worm her once a year and am faithful with the Heartguard. She had 6 teeth pulled a couple of years ago and was just dandy. They weren't her "chewing" teeth so eating wasn't a problem but her kibble often falls out the side of her mouth until she gets it where she can chew it. She is 13 1/2 so I consider myself lucky she is still in good health.

Going camping at the coast for a week at the end of the month so I will NOT complain if it is cool, slightly rainy or windy I will just remember the beastly heat waves that occur and I hate them.

Good morning from overcast, hot No. Central CA. My 17-1/2 yr. old Shih Tzu doesn't get any shots anymore, My 14 yr old ShihTzu gets rabies shot and used to get Bortadella (sp?) when I boarded him but one time he got kennel cough anyway. I wasn't happy about that for sure. Haven't traveled much with them lately and both are inside dogs.

Karen, do you tow your Equinox? Do you like the SUV?

The storms got here this morning and we are under a flood warning. It has slacked off a little but there is still a lot in the Gulf and back in Texas. Our electricity went off for an hour after lunch.

Anita, I looked at the SS trip on you tube. I don't think I could have made it driving or riding.

I didn't pay much attention to the dog's vaccinations but think I will start watching what they are doing more. Harold let them make his annual checkup appointment last month. He is on the 6 month heart worm shots. It was too early to give him that and now I have to bring him again in 2 weeks. He has been on some expensive dental dog food which he almost won't eat. Harold puts soft food on it which defeats it's purpose. I am fixing to start buying his food at Walmart. Two of the inside cats haven't been vaccinated in a few years. Some how they got missed on the vet's reminder schedule and I didn't remind them. They are the 2 that don't go out at all so I am going to see how they get along. None of the cats travel and I won't bring a strange cat here so hope they will be ok. Was really not happy when I found out that one of the vaccinations they were giving cats before gave them cancer.

I was going to go check out the Daylily Festival in town but bet they got rained out.

Well I missed morning but I was up and busy! It has been raining off an on most of the day but nice and cool. I'm going to a party tonight and hoping the rain holds off as parking won't be close.

I'm with Tina on the vaccinations, I don't do Lepto either. I only do the rabies because Illinois doesn't accept the rabies titer as proof. I do have titers done every few years for distemper. They can estimate from the results about how many more years it is good for. I do give Sentinel monthly but no topical for ticks and fleas. The Sentinel makes the fleas unable to reproduce. I may have to use a topical for a few months in summer but trying to hold out. The ticks are especially awful this year!!!
Here is a link to an article on some of the things they believe are causing so much cancer in dogs, over use of vaccines is on the list.

I used to do Lepto as well. I guess I wasn't very thorough when I said that I still vaccinate my dogs for everything. The "biggies" for me are rabies, parvo, distemper, and bordatella, only because of where we camp.

I wish there were cut & dry "rules" about vaccinating our pets. It would make our lives so much easier.
