I can open with Sue's line from yesterday--"rained all night." Quite windy too, so if it stops raining, things should dry out quickly. May be able to rake today

Sarah, glad to hear you're enjoying GA--how long you staying there? Such a camper you've become:) Looks like Anita & I will be able to connect in TX! Martha, did I mention that I'll be in your area, probably by mid Dec? Ha, many of my beignets turned out "chocolate" brown rather than "golden." I don't have an electric skillet, so guess my oil was too hot. They turned "golden" almost immediately, but I had to leave them in to make sure the insides got done? Didn't stop me from eating a ton of them though

Looks like our rain headed your way Carolb. It's done here, but going to be cold. Only in upper 40's today last I heard. Yesterday was in 60's. Batter of the seasons I call it. Fall hanging on, winter trying to come in. Probably good in that you won't be leaving for couple of weeks yet. Another system is supposed to be forming in plains this week and moving east with more rain. Sorry the beignets didn't turn our as good as you hoped. Anita, good plan to hole up in AR as right now you don't want to move any farther south. TX, LA and MS under flash flood watch. lots of rain down that way. Hopefully Martha won't get a flooded yard.

Heading to church in a little while here. Not sure what I am getting into today. Want to flush out my gutters but with temps in upper 40's, playing with hose not actually my idea of fun. Shall see. Have a couple of other "fall chores" left to do, so can do them instead. Looks like rain again tomorrow too.

Good morning to all. Bill and I were talking yesterday - that if we were still living in Indiana we would probably be on the road now heading south west - glad we aren't - don't like driving through icky weather.
Managed to sleep in today till 15 to 5 - last couple of days I was up at 3 - way too early. The pill the doc gave me to try to stop the leaking is doing a fine job of drying my mouth but not the other end. Maybe I should stand on my head! We are debating about going to Mexico in December - I can't have surgery until at least middle of January - so why not just postpone it a little longer - go south and have it done when we get home. I won't leak any less at home than gone. So why not go. The more I think it the better it sounds.
Most of our Canadian friends will be on the road by next week.
Been watching the news from Mexico they sure got lucky with that hurricane - could have been so much worse. I hope that is the last one for the year for them.
It has cooled down enough here that I think I'll cook an oven roast today - see if my oven works any better after making some adjustments to it. Now it is only 25 degrees too hot instead of 75!.
Hope any on in the mid southern states doesn't have problems with the weather. And those of you traveling - drive safe.

so glad the hurricane didn't wipe out Puerto Villarta, but it does look to be dropping alot of rain on TX. We all
need the rain but the wind can go away.
Made a cake yesterday, used a recipe from the internet, 3 ingrediant applespice cake, a recipe that uses the
crockpot....well, it was nasty! I really anticipated it was going to be yummy, even bought a new full size crockpot
as they were on sale at Walmart for $17. Pretty expensive cake, but its about time to get some real crockpot food
going, ya know, chili, meatballs, stew, roast, etc.
Will do laundry today, and probably kick back with a movie and just relax. Ya'll have a great day. Safe travels to
everyone and hope ya'll stay dry.

Ava, we bought a crockpot yesterday as well, I've gone back to eating meat and used to love to throw it in a crockpot with some spices and have several meals worth at the end of the day. Going to try a simple chicken and salsa first, I think I can handle two whole ingredients.

Peggy, thanks for the suggestions. Catherine's is a little pricey for my blood and I had already made a reservation. I have stayed at Cloud 9 before and it is on top of a hill - right where I want to be right now!! Weather looks like it may be better tomorrow so I'll have to choose between riding or laundry! The Passport America park is full near Birmingham so made an expensive reservation at Birmingham South in Pelham. I have stayed there before and it is not far from cousin's. I will be there a week - leaving Nov 4 to hopefully see Wendy and Sarah.

Sarah, glad you are enjoying your camping! Carolb, you know I wouldn't even attempt beignets so good for you! Martha's funnel cake makes my mouth water as did the talk of pie crust the other day. Mother used to cut the remaining pie dough in strips, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, bake. Sounds like many of us tasted the same thing! While reading small town newspapers from the late 40s, I was surprised to see all the times people entertained with waffle suppers! Wishing I had bought things to put in the crockpot - gotta get back to a routine some time!

So many things I should do today, but this weather does not inspire me! Everyone is this wet stuff, stay safe and dry!

Hey Good Morning everyone. I have coffee and banana bread if you haven’t eaten any breakfast yet. It’s going to be another beautiful day in the high 60’s. Can’t believe that we haven’t had a killing frost yet. My impatients, coleus and begonias which are all very tender plants are still blooming! I know I should bite the bullet and clean the pots but it just is going to make the winter shorter if I can enjoy them longer. DH and I finally winterized the camper last Sunday and no major arguments! Hope putting up the Christmas lights go as smooth!

Well the Steel Magnolias got Faye’s daughter married last weekend. It was a beautiful wedding and a very entertaining reception. The five of us have been through so much together….weddings, graduations, births, deaths, building and remodeling houses and lots of other daily trials and joys. We always pitch in and help each other. My life wouldn’t be complete without these women!



Been a little under the weather this weekend. Cold and achy….had my flu shot on Friday and I think that’s what’s causing it, but it’s never bothered me before. I was going to go see mom today but just to be safe I’m staying away. If it is something I don’t want to contaminate the nursing home. So I guess I’ll just finish Bronc’s Halloween costume this afternoon. Not much to finish on it but cutting out a pattern and then the finishing handwork is the part of sewing that I like the least. He tried it on Friday when I had him after work and he wasn’t too sure what to think of it.

All the darn talk about funnel cakes and beignets has me hungry for doughnuts. But if I make them I’ll eat them and I certainly don’t need them!

Well I best go take a shower and see if that revives me. Safe travels and good health to everyone.

Good morning. No rain here in CA but it does look kind of gloomy this morning. Pat, I love that picture. Reminds me of when my three sisters and I along with my mom get a picture together - big smiles all around.

Yum, banana bread Mom and Grandma would make banana bread and we'd put peanut butter on it.

Trying to squeeze a little more time out of the camper before we have to winterize. We like to do Halloween at the campground. The people decorate their sites and the kids have fun carving pumpkins for crafts. Hay rides in the evening. Good time. Halloween will be the end of our season.

Cooked a pot roast in the DO yesterday and finished as it started to rain. Took it down to the pavilion where others showed up with beef stew, brownies, apple pie etc and we made our own impromptu pot luck. Chezza got soaked playing in the puddles and the rain. This morning made hash out of the left overs for breakfast.

Carol sorry to hear about "the drips". Had a urethra infection once that required surgery. Was joking with Phoenix this morning that as we get older restrooms become part of trip planning.

Crookpots are great for some things but I don't understand why some people try to do what they do in a crockpot.

Not sure why. Is it because I'm a native Californian? Or am I just too sheltered? I have NO idea what a "beignet" is. Can someone enlighten me?

Sandi, come visit New Orleans with me - I'll buy you a beignet or 2 or 3!! Someone else can describe it better, but it's deep fried pastry with powdered sugar.

Good Morning All, we had Larry's Memorial Service yesterday. It was beautiful and several of his friends spoke very loving words re: Larry and Val.

Today all the San Diego relatives left for home. It is very quiet in the house. They all had stayed here as reservations in Healdsburg were not able to be found. This town is full of tourists!

My ex and his wife are staying here too for another week. We are one big happy family.

I'm not sure what the next few days hold. Val wants to get this house sold and get moved to her condo in San Diego.

Just last year we were in Purto Vallerta for a wedding. Glad to hear the hurricane did not do much damage.

Beignets look like Danish aebleskivers (or ebelskivers). I can make those. The difference is aebelskivers are not deep fried but made in a pan with round depressions in it.

A few years ago when our FMCA club was still going, we had a Mardi GRAS rally. We were blessed to have two professional cooks/ caterers as members and they fed us well. The couple who did the Mardi GRAS rally did beignets one morning. Right here in northern California! Yummy New Orleans donuts they called them when asked for a description. On the other hand, once you taste one, you don't care what they call them other than yummy! Sadly they are off my list unless I can figure out how,to make them gluten free.
Its cool this morning but Warm by the standard of those you to the east, at 68. Will be about 80 today and don't say it loud and scare it away but they say chance of rain by Wednesday. I hope so.
Mel made a Swedish Pot roast in pressure cooker last night. Took almost as long for the sous chef ( me) to prep ingredients as for the roast to be tender and good. I've never had a pot roast which called for brown sugar but when the chef says he wants to cook, who am I to argue! Next is his big pot of chili for Haloween. We go Tuesday for radiation planning, which involves a detail CT with contrast and making a mesh mask to hold his head and neck in place. Then on way home we will stop at Costco to buy the beef and pork he wants. Probably local grocer for the various peppers, and Dumb and Infinity (Smart and Final) for dried chilis and powders. The sous chef has a big job ahead slicing and dicing, but his chili based on his Moms recipe is so good we eat it for a week!!!
Not much else planned. Still fighting to find a psychiatrist for our adult son as most of them have stopped accepting Medicare and I hate committing to driving him 20 miles to UCD for every visit but it's looking like that is the choice. Otherwise it's quiet here with Mel still hurting from the lymph node surgery, mostly in inflammation of his arthritic neck and shoulders more so than the incision area. Otherwise he's doing pretty well if I can keep him moving ( his tendency is to crawl in bed and watch tv when he hurts which makes the rest of his body stiffen and hurt).
I never even noticed I had my flu shot and neither did my men folk. Hopefully it worked and we are protected from this years flu!
