Rainy Memorial Day

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Rainy Memorial Day

Postby Colliemom » Mon May 25, 2015 6:17 am

Good Morning everyone,

As you can see I am not on the road as yet. It's raining here and all across the U.P. Supposed to gradually end and clear out. Tonight is to be dry and tomorrow fairly nice in the a.m. So considering waiting till tomorrow morning, hitching up truck this evening and then off first thing in the a.m. There is what looks like another wave of rain or scattered showers again late Tuesday, but by then should be in campground and by Wednesday, Bevin the clear from there.

Everything's loaded and ready to roll. In fact, got hungry for a snack last night and remembered it's all out in the trailer  fortunately,do have food in house for lunch and dinner if I stay put today.

Wonder if Jane got to AL? Donna, you and Soos about ready to roll? Anybody hear about Abbey?

Wel, going to get dressed and survey situation out there. Have a nice day everyone :)

Good morning all. Sue and Donna, all ready to head out on their adventures. Sue, hope the rain stops so you can get going. Hope you both can check in now and again to fill us in!! Looks like another beautiful day here. I spent all day yesterday playing in the water! First pressure washed the deck and later I managed to get the windows washed! I love the Windex spray that attaches to my hose to clean windows! It gets messy when the breeze kicks up but does a good job! Plus I finally cleaned off the back porch so I can use it now! I need to see about getting a dumpster or something to get rid of lots of things both out and in the house!! The garage was DH's "workshop" and there is so much that I'll never use! Be nice to empty it and actually be able to park my car in it!

I'm having the kids for a cook out today and hope I can get my son to tackle a couple little projects for me! I have a couple of outside lights that I want replaced and he likes to play with electric! So with that being said, I guess I should get moving and get busy! I need to run to the store for a few last minute things then get home and start getting ready! Have a good Memorial Day and be safe.

Just a few drops of rain down here in Monroe, Sue, so I hope you get away soon.

Sterling State Park has been absolutely packed this weekend, as I am sure other state parks are packed. I have not enjoyed the crowds or the noise, so am very happy to see the vast majority packing up and leaving. I need to dump my tanks, but am not going to attempt it until late afternoon. This is a very big park and even with three dump stations, I am sure the rigs will be lined up! I'll be here two more days before heading for Maumee Bay State Park, just a bit south of here.

I spent five hours yesterday at the Detroit Institute of Arts. What a wonderful place!! If any of you come to Detroit, it is not to be missed--one of the top five art museums in the country. It had many very rich donors during Detroit's heydays in the early 20th century, but was always owned by the city. When the city had to declare bankruptcy a couple of years ago, it was proposed by creditors that they sell a few Rembrandts! (Rembrandt's self portrait is here.) Luckily, most of the art was donated under the condition it would never be sold, but it was a close call, so now it is part of a charitable trust as a result of $800 million being raised to "ransom" it from creditors.

Anyway, five hours was not enough, so I will come back in my next visit. There was an exhibit of Mexican muralist Diego Rivera and his wife Frida Kahlo. Rivera painted one of his most famous murals on the walls of one large court, now known as the Diego Industry Court. It was commissioned in the 20s by Edsel Ford, son of Henry Ford, and depicts automotive manufacturing. http://www.dia.org/art/rivera-court.aspx. Will be posting photos on my blog tonight.

On note, for those of you wondering, I am holding off leaving till tomorrow morning. Rain has cleared here, but still in the U.P., so why drive in it when don't have to. Tomorrow voodoos to be partly cloudy with late afternoon showers possible and WI looks to clear to sun on Wednesday. So will enjoy the drive. 8-)

Beth, hope the "flooding" goes down across the little road for you and that you get the store roof fixed. Maybe I should put a kayak in truck,

Got up early and headed to the cemetary to visit my mom's grave. I brought some flowers and ended up putting them in between her headstone and the one next to it. That one belongs to my cousin, Dawn, who passed away 2 years ago this week from cancer at the age of 40. She and I had a common bond as we are both "birthmoms". I didn't think my mom would mind sharing her flowers. :D One of my brothers must have been there yesterday because there were other flowers at my mom's grave.

Then stopped at a huge thrift store near there that was having a 50% off sale today. Bought a bookcase headboard for my bed for $7. Is in perfect condition! Then found some really pretty patterned material (teal, pink, purple) for the camper to make a valance and cushion covers with, (posted a photo on my "camper" thread). $10 for that. Will be making curtains from green/teal colored sheets. Will be bright and cheerful in there when I get it all done. May even get inspired to paint the "woodwork" white later on.

Then stopped at my dads and we went to lunch. He gets us all so frustrated! He is so confused about his finances and credit cards but insists that he is right and won't listen to anything we say to the contrary. He insists he has a lot more money than he does. Even when we show him bank statement and tax forms, etc, he says they are wrong. He is just going to bankrupt himself pretty soon. Just hope he doesn't end up losing the house to foreclosure when he can't pay the taxes and mortgage anymore (which will be soon). He is so stubborn! We are all at our wits end with him!

Didn't get much else done today. By the time I finally got home, was too tired and crabby to do much cleaning. Also still waiting to get the money my friend said he would loan me for the camper, but haven't heard back from him. Hope he comes thru tomorrow! I am paying for most of it, but needed a bit more to cover it all and he said he would help me out...

Hope you all had a good Memorial Day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
