Really Frigid Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Really Frigid Friday

Postby Colliemom » Fri Feb 20, 2015 7:13 am

Good Morning from the Frigid 45th,

How does -32 sound to you ladies. Well, that's what it is here right now. Been many years since I have seen that kind of cold in the morning. Way back in the early 70's and usually around the holidays, not in February. But I can tell that March is nearing as our temps are going up and down like a yo yo starting today.

Cheryl, thanks for starting coffee. Turns out we were both posting at the same time. BJ, sorry to hear about your frozen pipes. Hope you got them taken care of without any major expense and your generator is all set to go if needed. Yes, I do have a backup source of heat if needed. A gas stove in my living room. If you happened to see the pic I posted in Pets of Molly laying in front of it, you would see it. We haven't had a power outage here where I am in a long time, other than maybe somebody hitting a pole and taking down a line for a little while. There are areas around me who have had long term power outages due to storms etc., but so far I have been lucky in that regard. Different transmission lines etc. Kathy, laughed when you said your dogs were going stir crazy. Same here. What kind of treats do you put in your Kong Balls? First time I did it for Molly, I broke up some dog biscuits and stuffed them in. She had it figured out in less than 5 minutes.

Not going to bore you talking about nothing this morning and move along here. I did get my puzzle done yesterday and back in box. Shopping on agenda today. You all have a nice day wherever you are. Keep warm those in the cold areas. :)

Good Morning, Sue and Everyone !!! Good ole sunny Fl,( and it is sunny this morning) but it is more then freezing out there. Low 20's during the night, not good. The wind is awful, makes it soooo cold. Ok, you northern people make fun all you want, but I didn't come to Florida for weather like this, could have had this at home :( Well, this year, it is worse up there, so guess I should shut my mouth,

Other then writing emails and chatting with others, not much news from here. Maggie, isn't up to long walks these days and just as well in this weather, don't think I am either. My little buddy, has lost her hearing, doesn't see well, and slow getting around now. Breaking my heart here. I'm trying to adjust to what I know is coming, and by telling everyone, helps me know its a reality.

Well, need to get my breakfast over with, errands to run etc., must get this day moving here,
Have a good one, stay warm, and most of all, Please stay safe,
CArol :)

Good morning Sue, CArol & everyone!

Yikes, Sue! Your -32 makes the 28 degrees that we woke up to in Ocala sound like a heat wave! But compared to the 5 degrees that it is at our home in MD, plus the fact that we'll see 56 later in the day, I'll put up with this cold snap for one more day. Tomorrow we'll get back in the 70's and Sunday close to 80.

CArol, yes it's cold here in FL. I'm sorry to hear about Maggie's problems. Our little Teddy is aging and having issues as well. It's so sad.

Despite being another chilly day here in the south, the sun is shining brightly, so that's a plus. We met a couple, through friends of ours who are building a house here in Ocala, and we've invited them for dinner this evening. The crockpot is on low and I think I'll serve a fruit salad as a side. Steve has requested a chocolate cream pie and I better get that made so it can set up. Have a good day everyone!

Mornin' Sue, CArol and all that follow ~~~

Sorry for the confusion on yesterdays MC. I'll leave it to he pros from now on. ;) Still dang cold today, but heard the possibility of 30* tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it (or should I say fell it?).

Sorry to hear of Maggie's problems CArol. Talk all you want. Almost everyone at sometime or another has had to go thru it with aging furbabies and we understand.

Loved the blossoming tree pics that Sandi posted the other day. Too bad the forum doesn't have smell-o-vision. Could use a break from all the exhaust from people letting their cars warm up. I thought you didn't have to do that anymore since cars don't have carburetors anymore, unless they want the heat to actually be heat before getting in the car. Kathy ask your mechanic that, and good luck on the MH by Carrie's boss.

Now to a braking question ~ I have manually shifted gears if needed since I lived in a semi-hilly area. It was fun and just seemed to come naturally, guess I learned something by osmosis from my stepdad. But I'm still confuzzled on the M gear in the truck. I've looked in the owners manual and also searched on line, but the only thing I've found is another questions like mine and to use + and - when using this gear (huh?). So what is it and when do you use it? During the searches, also found there is a S and B shifts too! Geez nothing is easy any more (old cranky side showing :? )

Off work today - RV Show time!!!! More dreaming to do! I think by the time I decide what I want, I will be retired and then won't need the truck anymore!

Have a good day everyone and if you're on the road stay safe. Stay warm wherever you are too since it seems below temps in a lot of places this week.

Good Morning, Good Grief Sue -32 !!! Next year think Florida +32 is a whole lot better :) Glad you have alternative heat. My frozen pipe was an expensive fix. The brackets holding the pipe had come loose and pipe was in front of a window that was open about 3"...I don't go to the basement very often and DH doesn't notice things like that. Plumber closed windows and latched them, replaced brackets and added insulation strips to the pipes. Generator guy was here at the same time as the plumber and he had to order a part so said I didn't owe him anything yet... I told him that was good as I was giving all my $$ to the plumber! A couple of good things, DH has a good start on cleaning the basement as they had to move a bunch of boxes AND he found my Big Twist record album. Big Twist's band was my favorite group to dance to back in the '60. Great blues!!!
Supposed to warm up and bring in snow/ice today and heavy rain tomorrow then back to frigid. Dogs go in and out so they aren't too bad, I don't fill the kong ball, they seem to play with other toys and Mitzi plays endlessly by herself if they aren't in the mood. The rest of the time she crashes to gear up for another round. Kathy commented on FB that she thought she must be part Husky, I believe it the way she loves the cold and snow!
Think spring it's coming someday!

Cheryl, you are one of the pros. Definitely start coffee if you're here. And those not pros, same thing. Don't wait. As yesterday, if two or more, get started, they'll get combined.

Someone is in the overflow site next to me. Generator hours start at 8. 8:01 the generator was turned on. Can't complain, but I can say, even when I use my own, how much I hate them. Or should I say have a love hate relationship with them.

Good morning! The sun is shining! Yippee! Course there is the minus temps but if I stay in the house I can pretend it's warmer!! But then there's the 3-5 inches of snow coming tomorrow. We just can't catch a break it seems! Lots of school delays and closings all over the region today. These poor kids will be going to school well into June this year. But at least they're keeping them safe now. Sounds like everyone here in the east is affected by this cold snap in one way or the other.
BJ, glad you got the frozen pipes taken care of. Sue, I have a small gas heater in my kitchen and one in the basement so if power goes out I should still be able to have some heat. And be able to keep the pipes in the basement from freezing.

I found out my new chiropractor is an rver! She and I didn't get to talk much the other day since she was running behind but did compare rvs. She drives a class A Gulf Stream and I have a smaller GS! So we'll be talking more, I'm sure! I see there's a couple of shows next week fairly close by. One in Altoona and one in Harrisburg. Neither one of them have been around very long and aren't very big but it might be fun to hit one of them and at least see what they have. And dream of spring and summer!

Time to go get ready to face the day! Coffee is still on if anyone is ready for another cup. Have a good day and stay safe and warm.

A quick Good Morning!

Cheryl, never hesitate to start MC. There is a way to see if anyone else has posted while you are typing - just open a new tab and check the forum. I usually just post on the one submitted first, but I lost a post last week that way so now won't post until they are combined.

Those are such cold temps! Sorry about the pipes, BJ. :( CArol and Irmi, I find it hard even when it is friends' pets getting older and having issues. CArol, you talk all you want!!

Have to get myself ready for another day of go, go, go - yesterday L bought a new RZR and we are picking it up this morning. I have one favorite trail in Salome that I want to be able to take anyone on who comes to visit - unless they don't want to look for lizard, iguanas and Gila Monsters! Since I haven't driven in awhile, I will practice. :D

Everyone have a great day with happy, warm thoughts!!

Good mornin' gals,
Yes it's wicked cold here too and unfortunately I have to go out in it. Have a pair of horses and one dog today. The horses' owner (who is also a good friend of mine) is very funny--she called me to ask if I had long underwear for when I take care of her horses, she doesn't want her "better pettersitter" to freeze LOL! Trying to get all my ends tied up so I can leave for Carrie's house after I feed the horses and my own critters. Need to go to the bank and grocery but will wait and do my dog walk first then shopping.

CArol, please talk all you want about your dear Maggie; as Cheryl said we have all been in your shoes and if it helps to talk then please do so. It is so very hard letting go of our dear furbabies but you aren't alone; you have all of us with you.

Sue, I usually put some peanut butter in the Kongs, one of my clients freezes it and when I put her dog in the crate I put a piece of cheese inside her Kong. Sometimes I make dog treats from mashed bananas, plain yogurt and a little honey and freeze them in old ice cube trays. This is very nice in the summer and the dogs really enjoy it. I also put broken cookie pieces inside the Kong but my Molly (like yours!) gets them out pretty quick.

Seems like we are all having issues with the cold, some much more than others but all seem to be affected. Hang on gals, it will pass!

O'Sharon, I sure hope you told your chiropracter about us and asked her to join!

Cheryl, I think most folks just warm up their cars for it to be warm inside for them. I'm lucky enough to have a nice heated garage for mine.

Everyone stay safe and warm,
Kathy
Any day spent in the company of my animals is a good day.

Good Morning... just think March is coming bringing warmer temps for us all... so glad for my fire place... if the power goes out I use it but have to keep running the water every so often so the pipes don't freeze... for now I have an electric heater in the master bath as that is where the water comes into the mobile home... I have never changed the heat tape but it seems to work... if it goes out things would freeze under there...
Sue I saw in Fl a couple saved all the puzzles and framed them that made for nice pictures and memories of when they put them together... when we did puzzles we just put them back in the box and saved them for maybe a couple of years and did them over...
I will be having my daughters dog Augie this weekend as they are going out of town... I would rather have him here where he has Shadow to keep him company... he is getting old and does not have many more days left...
CArol that is sad to think about losing your fur baby... Cheryl if you find an rv maybe your working days will come to an end!
Hope everyone is toasty and warm... take care
Kathleen or Kathy

Use today wisely it's all you have; yesterday is a memory; tomorrow a dream... KLW[/b][/color]

Wow Sue! Those temps are wicked! We are on the upswing with our rollercoaster temps here. Supposed to be in the low 20's today. Got woken up by loud snowplows early this morning going back and forth on the road out here. Figured we must have gotten several inches of snow overnight. When I looked outside later, we barely got a dusting! What a waste of their time and our money! A little salt would have worked fine on just one run, but they are using their blades and go by about every 20 minutes. Don't understand that. And then when we have a big storm, they are nowhere to be found and the roads are treacherous.

Feel bad too for those in Florida. Especially the snowbirds, and vacationers. Not what you go to Florida for, to freeze! I know that from last year when the temps were in the mid 40's near Tampa for a couple days! Sounds like it will warm back up quickly tho for the GTG next week!

I don't bother to warm up my Jeep before heading to work or back. It only takes me 5 minutes to get to work and it takes at least that long to warm it up, so may as well just drive in the cold.

Everybody at work loves my new shorter frosted hair. I like it better too! So easy to take care of. And I just look better as a blonde!

Have a great day and stay warm!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

good morning ladies
so glad its friday and soon enough the needy neighbor comes back to get his camper and then of course spring break I follow with the jeep and trailer. Carolb has been a godsend, she will stay and take care of Maggie and with her being in and out now Maggie has really gotten used to her crew. She is great company.
Lost a fellow coworker yesterday as he didn't show up for work. Being that he is always here they went and checked on him and had to call the police as they found him dead. No foulplay, assuming he had a heart attack and living alone, well, no one to notice symptoms. He'll be
missed, he was well liked. Makes me think about making some kind of arrangements for myself since I live alone too. Gonna have to think on that with my daughter.
So sorry for you all that are dealing with cold and frozen pipes, its a tad cool here today with overcast skies. I want the sunshine!
Off to get a nap, Carolb is off to the dog park. Ya'll have a great day, be safe and hope you can stay warm.

It is almost noon, so I hope you are thawed out by now, Sue. It only dropped down to about 43 last night where I am in southern Florida and is supposed to warm up to 65 today, so things are pretty good here, considering what the rest of the country is experiencing. Don't mind it at all.

I spent yesterday with my cousin and his wife, so that was nice. I have so many cousins and haven't seen this one in two years. I used to spend a lot of time with his mother--she helped me so much with my mother and she was a lot of fun, but passed away about five years ago. Today, I am going to work and get a load of laundry done. I am also working on planning my trip to the northeast and the Canadian Maritimes for this coming late summer and fall. I've got reservations for the important parts in August and also in Michigan and Ohio for the big holidays in the summer. Those full up pretty fast. Makes me excited about going someplace new. One limitation, of course, is my need to have constant free WiFi, but a lot of campgrounds seem to have it, even a couple of provincial parks. Yea!

Besides the trip to the Maritimes, I have planned a couple of weeks in Ontario in late June and July, so have got reservations there as well. All of my grandparents were born in Canada, so I am going to try to visit some of the homesteads that around North Bay and then head up and west around the Georgian Bay part of Lake Huron, ending up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Looking forward to that also.

Stay warm, all of you in cold places!

Hey Anita, since I'll be there in a few weeks, I'd LOVE to see all those critters.
