Chilly Tuesdayl Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Chilly Tuesdayl Morning

Postby Colliemom » Tue Jan 06, 2015 8:18 am

Morning all,

Guess you are all still snuggled in your toasty warm beds. I've been watching the news this morning, talking about this recent arctic cold wave. I honestly wonder why they make such a big deal out of this cold weather. It's not the first time this country has had cold weather. Granted, for those of you down south or in area where it's been a little more unusual, those of us who live in the north, have seen it before. I can remember cold -20 - 30 below temps in the 70's and nobody made a big deal out of it. Biggest thing is that a lot of people nowdays, don't dress for the weather and drivers don't know how to take their foot off the accelerator. That's the number one cause of winter accidents. Off my soapbox

Waiting for the washer repair guy to come today. Washer is on the fritz. Can't have that. Last front loader for me Have already had one repair done and depending on what's wrong and how much, may just not bother and get a new top loader instead. Otherwise nothing on agenda for today except maybe do some house cleaning.

Cancelled my Chiropractors appt. yesterday due to weather and finally got out to blow out the drives. Did mine and the one neighbors I do and then another neighbor came by and asked if I could do theirs as they are without a snowblower right now. So wound up doing three drive Needless to say, was tire by the time I got through . Last drive was rutty from them driving through the snow so had to fight the blower while doing the drive. Didn't get my path into other neighbors drive done. Maybe today They are gone to FL but I keep a path open to house in case furnace goes out something. Also need to go shovel the short walk at other placeI take care of. Getting too old for all this  But keeps me busy and good exercise. Molly and I have a game when I shovel my deck. She barks at the shovel an I throw snow at her. She pounces on that and we keep doing it. Eventually she goes off to other interests for a bit. And I get my shoveling done  I do have a small snowblower for doing my deck etc. but have been shoveling these smaller snowfalls so she can come out side with me for a bit.

Well, Judy set the dates for theJune MI GTG, so check out the GTG thread. Site to be determined as yet. Two possible picks. I also threw in a third.

So am going to mosey on over to FB and see what's going on. Have a nice day all.

G'morning Sue and all to follow:)

Cute snow game you n Molly have! I'm so happy for you that you got her rather than go thru the winter with no fur baby. They do make a world of difference in our lives:)

Finally, 70° temps in AZ--hooray! Dog park is closed Tues a.m.s for maintenance, so I'll be giving HB a good cleaning. Cool.37° now, but sunny, so should warm up quickly. Been helping Molly, former neighbor, with cleaning projects, but yesterday she treated me to a matinee.

Y'all have a great day, be safe n warm always!

Good Morning
Our last day of temps above freezing until Sun or Mon, the a double round of Arctic blasts, Wed. and another on Fri. - really dreading as wind chill are forecast to be below zero at times. You are right, Sue, many of us in the south do not own clothes for that kind of weather.
Dentist will work me in at 11:00 tho I really don't think there is anything she can do but give me prescription for antibiotics as my face is so swollen. Pretty sure it is an abscessed tooth. Sure messing up my plans for the day.
I have four other errands to do while I'm out. Had wanted to go back to the campground and try generator again but all my other running around is in the opposite direction so guess that will have to wait until first of next week (after this bone chilling weather passes).
Have a good day and try to stay warm.

Good Morning!

Mother Nature is sure having her way with all of us! We are at least having warmer days and taking advantage of them.

Yesterday was shopping day in Buckeye - 140 mile round trip. We were almost back to Salome when I remembered I had ordered photos online for my genealogy project, and I forgot to pick them up!! LeRoy said, 'We'll go tomorrow to get them'. So the Slingshot will get a good ride and first run on the freeway. Breaks my heart! Tomorrow we are suppose to take it to Yuma.

Everyone stay warm and safe!

Good Morning, We have lots of sun but not sure what the temp is, supposed to get the arctic blast the next couple of days with night time getting down to 0. ACK

Carol sounds as though you have a good place for awhile, even though it is cold the dogs are probably happy. I can't keep mine in, they seem to love the cold. so they no sooner get inside when they want back out. I too am glad you were able to get Molly now Sue instead of waiting for a spring time pup. They sure keep the day exciting. Gee Anita, too bad you 'forgot' something that requires a trip in your new toy. Sarah, I'll be heading for the dentist at two, so will be thinking of you now. I have no idea what is hurting in my mouth or jaw, had ex-rays that showed nothing right before New Years, then had acupuncture and it went away for almost a week but now coming back. Acupuncture doctor wants me to see my regular dentist to be sure it isn't a tooth. When I went for the ex rays I went to the only dentist that hadn't closed for the holidays and I didn't feel very confident about the place. I had to cancel my massage this afternoon as it conflicted with the only time the dentist had.

Stay warm, you ladies in the south need to order some long johns, I've been wearing mine. They have some that are really light weight but keep you toasty.

I had an appointment with the eye doctor again. I had an infected eye lash the last time I went and he wanted me to put hot compresses on it for 2 weeks. It was a little smaller but he went ahead and lanced it. Fun, Fun. It has to be gone and well before he will do the cataract surgery. The shot is starting to wear off and I can feel it now.

Today it warmed up to the mid 60's and tonight will only get down to 40. Tomorrow night it's suppose to get down to 21. My son is suppose to come in tomorrow night and if he doesn't I will have to go see about his trailer. It is snowing a little in New Jersey and he has to fly out of Philadelphia. I hope he doesn't have any problems getting out.

Sue, they are now selling top loading washers that use less water. I have a friend that has one and she hates it. I think she washes everything on the setting you would use to wash a quilt because it uses more water. I wanted a washer that only had a switch for the water level, hot or cold water and time. Try to find something that simple these days.

Sarah and BJ, hope you all get some relief at the dentist. I'm not crazy about not using our regular vet, dentist or doctor. Years ago I brought my mother to a dentist that was taking the place of the one she usually saw while he was on vacation. She had a filling that had fallen out and all the substitute dentist did was put in something temporary so she could see the regular dentist when he got back. That way we had to pay twice. It pissed me off so much we switched dentists.

Well my day just kept going down hill.

Dentist was alarmed at amount of infection and says tooth cannot be saved. However because it has an unusually long root and almost touching sinus cavity, she said she wasn't equipped to deal with any problems that might develop in trying to get it out. Also since it will likely require cutting out, I have appointment with oral surgeon in the morning. In the meantime am on major antibiotics.

I did manage to get my other planned errands done while I was out; two of those did not go smoothly but at least done.

The weather was actually not bad today so figured I wouldn't be any more miserable doing a few more things than I would if I went home. Only needed a few things from grocery store so got that done. Then went to campground. Tried a couple of other suggestions from ladies here but generator still refusing to start.
Topped off van gas tank on way home. $2.93 at SAMS so at least that was good.

Wasn't in all that much pain when I left the house this morning but by the time I got back, it had become much worse. Being out in the cold air probably didn't help and I dread going out in the morning - will be down in 20s then (in 40s today but lucky if we get to freezing tomorrow; single digits tomorrow night).

Alright I'm finished grumping; thanks for listening. I am very grateful this happened now rather than when I'm traveling.

Sorry no post this AM... Yes I remember back in the 50s and 60s there seemed to be more snow and cold in a little town near Kalamazoo, Mi where we lived in a 'trailer' park.... my husband banked the snow up around the outside of the 'trailer' the 6 of us lived in a 10 x 40 ft trailer. no carpeting so it was cold... even the children's pjs were footed... closed the bathroom off and did all 4 baths at once to keep them warm... those were interesting days...

However Normal has a brutal cold chill warning for the next 30 hours regular temps will be below zero during that time... that is with out wind chills... they say wind chills will take us to minus 30... nothing to laugh about... or sneeze at... I am at a different place in my life and at 75 cannot take the cold.

I had a real treat as before I got up this morning John my son in law had shoveled me a path through the 5 plus inches of snow that fell... that was so nice... if it sits with this bitter cold it will harden like cement!!

Carol sounds like a good place for the dogs, Anita I would love to be in McIntosh with the ladies this winter... I used to stay there but the last time I was there there were not many people to talk to... but it sounds like this year there are many happy faces... oh Martha sure hope the doc can clear up things so you can get the cataracts out... you will see so much better... Sue what a fun time you are having with Molly!! makes me smile... Ouch Sarah they may have to do a root canal on that tooth...

Time to find out what is for dinner/supper here... hope everyone had a good day...

It was a beautiful day here in Texas

Postby TxJohnnie » Tue Jan 06, 2015 6:29 pm

I'm getting my feet wet and actually camping somewhere besides a driveway. I'm loving it! So peaceful and only 20 miles from New Braunfels mall, so I've seen a movie and had a nice pedicure this week. I plan to stay a while. Definitely love it. Getting crochet done and lots of reading. So far so good. I've never used the range yet or the generator..later for those.
Hope you're all having a great 2015! Anyone nearby, give me a holler. Johnnie

Sarah, that tooth sounds bad. Hope you have someone to get you home after the surgery. After bringing Harold and my boys to oral surgeons I know you will be in la la land.

Johnnie, glad you are getting to camp. I have camped near New Braunfels several times and I like that area. Did you ever get your lights fixed?
