Tuesday and still cold

Good Morning, Thought I better get this started or it will be afternoon. Breakfast is over but we could start lunch anytime, a nice hot soup sounds good.
I hope the weather starts to cooperate for the ladies at the GTG. It looks like they are having a good time regardless of the rain. Soos can pass her Recipe around and no one will care if it rains or snows, maybe I should ask her to send some this way.
Take care all and enjoy the day.

WHAT?? :o

It is 2:00 pm in Arizona, and a lot later in the eastern zone, so where is everyone??? Frozen out?

It's nice here, but those of us in warm places are feeling guilt posting about it. I just moved south about 30 miles south, which makes for a nice driving day. Got a few groceries and am going to make pasties later this afternoon. I usually make 5-6 and then freeze them after partial cooking so I have some ready-made meals. Yum! (For those who have never had a pasty, they are ground beef, potatoes, onions, and rutabaga all chopped into small cubes and cooked together in a pie crust. They are very old food and made a good handheld meal to take down into mines in Cornwall, but even the diarist Samuel Pepys ate them in the 1660s, as did Henry VIII a little earlier. Yum.) Here is the history and a recipe:

P.S. If the recipe does not include rutabaga, it is not a real pasty no matter what anyone tries to tell you.

I'm froze! :D

We didn't get all the snow they were predicting, but we got the cold & sleet.

It's supposed to get down to 19 tonight!

Oh no Vickie, sleet is worse than snow. Did you have to winterize your trailer?

The RV is inside the garage & I have a heater going in there with the cabinets open. I've never winterized it, it's never been this cold before. Hopefully all will be okay.

yes, inquiring minds want to know... :D I've never had a rutabager before either.

These sort of reminded me a little meat pie we had in Bolivia - have tried to replicate them here but can't. These might be more doable.

And Vicki, hope things warm up for you soon. We're cold here in KS but no precip so its bearable.

And everyone who is in warmer areas, don't apologize. I love hearing about how wonderfully warm it is - it gives the rest of us hope that sunshine & warmth really does exist somewhere. :D :D

The weather - ack! I know so many of you aren't used to such cold. Snow and icicles sure make for pretty pictures tho!

Looks like the Florida GTG is as expected - a fun time!!

I finally had a chance to take the Maxxair vents off and clean! After I finished the roof, I did the front of the camper - needed that done while it is still off the truck. Really had a time with bugs and the bug remover I bought was nearly useless. LeRoy came over with something that loosened them right up - after I had been scrubbing for a good hour. (Didn't have any dryer sheets here). I was working on the lower front and he was all set to get in the truck bed to do the upper. I told him 'no' because I wanted to do it - how exciting to watch it come clean!! Guess he thought I was kidding because he got up there anyway. Finally told him he was p***ing me off because I really did want to do it. I know that sounds silly when someone is helping, but I haven't accomplished anything of late! Finished up with 303 Protectorant. Of course, tonight my arms and hands are about useless!

Tomorrow I am off to the storage unit. Hoping I can start weeding out things I didn't take the time to do last year, but biggest reason is to make a spot to store the tailgate off the truck! Oh and to find my Seahawk shirt for Sunday!

Everyone looks cold except Alice (Ava). Beautiful here today, had doors and windows open from about 10 til 5. Getting ready to head out tomorrow to Glamis for Super Bowl weekend. I don't watch football, not even sure who's playing, don't really care who's playing, but we have great food and I get to play in the sand again.

Rutabagas taste like turnips. I like them cooked and raw. Not to much that I don't like. Okra and cooked carrots are the 2 that come to mind. Some sushi. Other than that I'm pretty much a garbage disposal. I like MItch's experiments and Vickie's cooking. I'd make the pasties but I try and eat low carb, but the filling would be good by itself.

Nice to see all of the pictures of the girls at the Fla GTG.

Just a quick up date:
Spoke with niece again today. Weather/cold big problem.
Younger niece was released from hospital Sunday afternoon but had to go home with her sister and home health care is set up along with bed and oxygen. Nurse has been by several times to check on her and work out therapy plan. We are all still a bit upset that there were no beds available at either of the rehab facilities. Older niece is still to wear mask any time she enters younger niece room and gloves if touching her. This is for younger nieces protection. Doctors were not able to get her white blood cell count above 1000 (should be around 5000). I would not have left if I had not thought she was being transferred to rehab hospital for several weeks stay.

I did get a few more photos on gtg thread.

This is a rutabaga. (The British call them "swedes" for some strange UK reason.) Some people like them boiled like potatoes and either mashed or in chunks with butter. Personally, I just like them in pasties. They taste a little like a turnip, but a bit stronger. You will see Rutabagas in the produce department next to the potatoes and turnips. They are about 4" in diameter and usually covered in wax.

And here are two of my finished pasties. They smell wonderful! Best part is that after two hours of cutting up the vegetables, and making and rolling out pie dough, I have four pasties that I will freeze and reheat for quick meals. Ate one also.

They look good Judy. My first Pastie was served as lunch to us, a group of high school Girl Scouts training for the International Round Up in 1965 in Grass Valley CA. I loved them.
