GOOD MORNING AVA AND ALL!

Cold morning here again, but above frost levels---upper 30s before dawn, and now up to 58 degrees. Sun is out, although the wind is still brisk. Last night we had some wild winds and heavy, heavy rains making the temperature drop WHAM! Kids are packing up to go home for the week today, so this place will be deserted and lonely again, as it was for so many years when I was still working at school. I remember why I decided to get this trailer and head south now----no fun being in any place alone for me any more. Even a place as beautiful as this in the fall. But I am sticking around for the rest of this month and part of October, at least until Orion's 2nd birthday on the 7th. After that, I'll wait for a decent stretch of weather to meander back to FL.....again alone, which is no fun for me, either. I used to yearn for alone time in the old days----what happened to me anyway? Sigh.

I need to go back to our cemetery to finish weeding out the blueberries and other plants that are beginning to cover up the stones and markers there. Also need to get some decent sized rocks to encircle the graves to replace the cheap, white plastic fencing I had originally put there. Also have a few more bills to pay now before I head off to Plattsburgh Bluegrass Festival on Thursday.

Have a happy Sunday, y'all!

Good morning!! Storms keep teasing us! Lightening and thunder all around, but no rain for us. DH going shooting. I'm making a dinner for his son and family for son's birthday tonight. Every morning I look out my kitchen window at RED parked in the driveway and all I want to do is be somewhere in RED. Soon!!

[sigh] How I yearn for cool weather.

The Noaa website is predicting 100 degrees for my general (Sacramento, Ca) area today; usually at my house it will be a few degrees hotter than that. I'm thinking it will top out at around 104 today; yesterday my outside thermometer hanging in the shade read 106.

Too hot to do much of anything outside. Even my dogs need to be inside when it is like this.

I can't wait for Autumn. Reading your posts about cool and rainy weather make me want to move.

Good morning all.

Well, I'm back home - got in Friday evening - after 5,369 miles & 14 states in 3 weeks I was ready to stop driving for a bit.

Trying to catch up on the news around here - so much going on. Love the pics of the GTGs. :D Eventually I won't be in such a rush on my outings & will be able to join in to meet up with some or all :o of you. And I'd take some of that cooler weather too - it's hitting upper 90's here with high humidity! :x Anne, I'm right with you on that heat! It's terrible - so ready for fall!

Soos, I know what you're saying about the 'alone' thing. I, too, used to think I'd love the empty nest - but realize that we are social beings & need to have others around us... still like our privacy & alone-time, but we aren't meant to be totally isolated.

A little bit about the trip...
The van did great! I learned so much: Not to sweat the small stuff, that the van won't tip on mountain curves & that 6% grades aren't that terrible (I just act like a big semi & take them slow). Thanks for all the tips on the gene & batteries - I really think it was altitude. I tried to use it in Alburqueque so I could run in a store & leave Sadie in the a/c- wouldn't turn over (I decided I didn't really need anything). Next day in Kansas, kicked right on.

Sadie did wonderful!!! She is the perfect traveling companion - she only asked to stop once, enjoyed meeting so many new people, loved the multiple daily walks, slept thru each & every night but most of all was the sweetest & most loving company a person could ask for. :) As my brother said, I hit the jackpot with her! It was funny to see her reaction when we got home though - I put her out in the backyard so I could unload the van & she immediately scratched at the door as if to say, Mom, you not coming out with me?

Goal for today is to finish putting things away & filtering thru nearly 2900 work emails so I can hit the ground running when I go to the office in the AM  Hopefully over the next couple of weeks I can get the pics organized & post a few.

Later, Catherine

We had a storm blow through here yesterday afternoon. I never did hear how strong the winds were but broke some branches in our trees. Our big trash bin is still across the road a ways. It blew my humming bird feeder so much that most of the food poured out. I was going to bake my cakes for the cake bingo today but decided to wait and see what the weather was going to do. It's a good thing, our power went out for an hour and a half. My neighbor was baking hers. I haven't talked to her to see how she came out. Friends of the local state park were selling BBQ plates for lunch so my DH had the day off from cooking. ;)

Catherine, I made just about the same trip to Washington except I left from Louisiana. Would like to do it again but be able to take my time. Found out I could drive in the mountains but don't like it. Decided to go South through California coming back because there were less mountains. Very interesting trip. Camped in Bellingham. My son and his girlfriend took me all over Seattle and we even went to the Puyallup Fair.

Good Afternoon! We had huge thunder boomers in the night... one shook my mobile home... Shadow does not move when the thunder and lightning happen... He just sleeps away... one made me jump! We were in desperate need of rain... what we got was a drop in a dry bucket!

My friend Linda at church said she took her dog and went to the basement... I didn't hear sirens go off... and I have no place to hide so do not even think of it...

Soos I can relate to being alone... it is lonely but not as bad as being with the wrong person or one that has a wandering eye... Oh by the way I talked to Cindy my neighbor... she is very happy... she will come back this week and try to sell her mobile home... she is a brave soul... you do not get to know someone in a few short weeks... I do hope it works for her...

Catherine glad your trip went so good... but that is a lot of miles in a short time... I only go about 200 in a day... and take breaks at about 100... must be getting old!

Take care everyone
Kathleen

Ha Martha,
I HATE mountain driving too. I had to tell myself to breathe as I drove up to a pass or came down a steep descent. Glad to know I'm not the only one. I bought a book for truck & RVers that shows the grades on Mountain roads. (although I noticed Allstays shows steep grades too) I used it to route myself home so I only had to experience 5% grades. :D Took a little longer but worth the lower stress. That's also why I stayed on major highways - I wanted to let everyone go around me as I creeped my way down.

Got home around noon from our monthly weekend trip with our camping club. We only go to nearby campgrounds, but it is nice to get away. Short trips with the camping club are easy because I only have to take food for a Friday potluck dinner and weekend snacks. A different member hosts each month and plans the breakfast for everyone on Saturday. We usually go out to a restaurant on Saturday night. It's always fun to see everyone and catch up. We still have heavy rainstorms every afternoon, and this weekend was no different, but the rain did cool things off. Although there was a lot to do in the area, I ended up staying in the campground on Saturday, relaxing and napping. It was great and I am ready for another long week at work.

My sister left this afternoon to work out of town all next week. Since we share a house, it will be very quiet here. I lived by myself for so many years, it took quite a bit adjusting to living with family in the house. Now, I am used to someone in the house and it is weird to be here alone. Well, not totally alone because the cats are here.

Catherine, you put in some impressive miles. Will you head out again for the winter or stay put until spring? Lori, it is good to hear you will be heading down to Florida. Have you made any decisions about your destinations?

Much cooler today, only 72 right now and cloudy. Back up to upper 90's for tomorrow but then cooling off again the rest of the week. So only one bad day to get thru. We sure could use some rain here too but none in sight (except for the tiny black cloud that rained on me as I limped across the parking lot today to get some lunch! ).
We were dead today at work so I got sent home early. Lots of carnivals and festivals going on this weekend, plus the Vikings were playing their first game today. I got great tips tho from the few customers I had, so that helped. I also got another raise last week. Two now since I started there in January. Guess they like me! :D

Hope you all had a good weekend!

Did a hot springs soak at 8am with a friend here in T or C and her friend visiting from out of town. Then we went to the local coffee shop book store for more conversation. Left them to get breakfast, wander into some thrift shops and finally to the grocery store and home. Breeze was blowing all morning and temps were less hot. Nice morning for walking about.

Watched a few TED Talks and now about to launch my Trips and Streets software to see how it works. Should be back on the road very soon but will first go to Pietown NM next weekend for the pie bake off and the following weekend either the Gila River Festival or Harvest something at Ghost Ranch. Love this life!

Kathleen, if you pay a lot for another coffee maker look for one that has a clean cycle. My first Cusinart didn't last very long. The one I replaced it with reminds me to clean it. I don't know if it is a timed thing or it can really tell it needs to be cleaned. I have to run vinegar through it about once a month and it is lasting longer than the first. Or you can get one of the cheap $15 ones and throw it away when it breaks. lol
