Memorial Day

Good Morning all,

Memorial Day. A day of parades and a day to remember. Flag was placed by my dad's grave over the weekend by the VFW. He served stateside during WWII, but none the less, he served. His legs cramped up too much for him to be shipped oversee as he couldn't walk for miles and miles etc. So stayed at Ft. Sill, OK. Staff Sgt. in the Motor Pool.

Going to be a nice day here for the most part today. Clouds moving in later on. I am heading north in a little while to spend the day with Judy. Really looking forward to hearing about her adventures of the past year and where she is planning on heading this one. And despite fighting a nasty cold, she is preparing dinner for us, despite my offer to bring up something so she wouldn't have to cook. And my sledgehammer to do a bike rack repair of some kind. Hopefully we won't wind up throwing the thing in the lake

My friend left for home yesterday and has been busy since she got there. Got her TT all organized and then took a mess of pictures, sent them up to the dealer and will now wait till tomorrow to hear back, as to how much they will offer her for it. If deal goes through, she will be back up here with hers, when they are ready for us to pick them up. I should know tomorrow as to when mine will be coming in. If price is higher than I want to shell out, I will go back to the smaller one and make do with it. I know there are those of you with pickup campers, small RV's etc., who make do with small holding tanks and minimal storage. I know Mitch has a small TT as well. Don't know how much water she can carry or how much storage she has though. But the main concern for me is the hitch weight on my Flex's suspension without the WD system. There is a reason for not being able to put one on the smaller TT, but neither of us can remember what it was.

I got my hay field mowed yesterday, so that's done. Grass was getting a bit high with all the rain we had last week and I guess more is coming this week too. Will try to plan my flowers in between the raindrops. Doesn't look like it's going to be an all day, every day thing.

Well, time to get moving here. Want to take bath and wash hair, then get ready to hit the road. Judy, I should be up there around 11ish.

Have a wonderful day all and those who may be driving home from a weekend of camping, travel safe.

Good morning,Sue & all who follow,

Am sitting out on my deck, cloudy & breezy & a little on the cool side, but finally able to take a break from DD's graduation/celebrations/moves & see what you are all up to.

The past few weeks have been busy with 1) trip to Dallas (youngest daughter hadn't seen oldest daughter & family's new setup down there), 2) DD's graduation, 3) DD's & her boyfriends graduation dinners, 4) moving DD out of her apartment & getting her ready to move to San Diego! Too much to do, so little time...

We decided to take today off so I'm taking advantage of time to catch up with my friends here. :D

I am sooooo excited about my van - will post pics later on. Inspired by some of you, my son & I removed one of the jack-knife sofas - that opened up so much space!!! :D I think I will put a small rocker/recliner there - probably one of those glider-rockers. it will be so much more comfy & homey than the sofa was. Can't wait to work on it a little more & try it out.

Well, better get the coffee on & maybe grab a sweather...
Hope everyone has a restful Memorial day.
Catherine

Good morning Sue & all to follow :D ...And Catherine! (You jumped in here before me, so now a quick edit :D--good work on your RV!!! )

Happy Memorial Day & yes, memories of all our loved ones & strangers who served our country to keep us safe & free....

Finally some sun here! Boy, does that put me in a better mood  I'll be in the yard/garden most of the day--bro coming over to finish tilling, & my job is to get the horse manure! A local guy has a few horses & gives the "shit" (excuse the literal word  ) away for free!

Y'all have a great day, happy times with fam/friends if that's in your plans, & as always, safe travels! 8-)

good morning ladies, yep, I'm up early today. Too much excitement goin on in my brain  I'm so happy about
the way my car turned out with all the detailing we did on it yesterday, it looks cleaner than when I bought it.
Have the front laid out with dog bed, the cooler and coffee maker. Back seat is still empty but I'll put the
dog kennel in there and back has my chair and a spot for my duffel bag. Need pillow and blankets still.
Sometime this week I'll get a haircut.
Have to roll up change from the pop machine today and probably one last time before I leave. Will put it on
the electric meter so I won't have to worry about son forgetting to feed the meter. He's gotten so use to me
managing the electricity that I'm sure he'll not even think about it.
I'm rambled on enough, ya'll have a great day and hope you have good weather for your holiday. Be safe.

Good work on the couch, Carolyn! I always say a place isn't really yours until you change something. I was famous (or maybe infamous?) among my son's high school friends. None of the other parents handed them sledgehammers and encouraged them to knock out walls.

Sister #2 is going to bicycle down here today. It's only about 15 miles, which she considers a pleasant ride. With Ivy here, we can load up the bike and take her home if the traffic gets too heavy for same biking back.

It sounds like you're ready to roll, Ava. Hurrah!

GOOD MORNING ALL!

Today is another warm but low humidity day with a strong breeze, and very beautiful here in St. Cloud. I believe I will do some tidying up in the trailer here, pack some stuff I have no need of on the roads to take back to the house for the summer, play with the kids' cats for a while, toss a Frisbee for the dogs, and then head back to Orlando for a few days to close up the house there. Then back I will come for the final push to organize and pack for the long voyage home. I just got off Skype with Mandy and Orion, and I can't wait to get back there to see them! He is no longer a baby, and I missed the months of him learning to walk and become a very opinionated little boy!

Nice to read about what others are doing every day on this forum, and I hope you will all stay in touch as you cruise around the country or work on your rigs, or acquire new rigs, or modify others. Don't ever forget how much we all love to see pictures of things going on, even though I know how difficult it is to get them ready to post!

I hope we all remember the brave souls who lost their lives to keep our country free and safe over the years, and pray that we will some day learn to exist with all citizens of this earth without any wars or killings or fighting. That is my wish for this Memorial Day 2013.

And it is also a day to remember those loved ones of ours who are no longer with us, and recall some of the fun memories we harbor of times spent together. I need to put together a brief album of photos taken over the years to keep with me here in the trailer----a project for this summer.

Good Morning... A day to remember... many of my family have served in the military... my father, two brothers and my sister... my nephew Keith graduated from Annapolis... and several others... they sacrificed much for our freedom... I say thank you to each who has served...

It is cool and cloudy with rain here... big thunder boomers in the night...

My daughter is coming over today to help start the process of sorting and packing...

Having coffee now...

Kathleen

Sue, I have a tiny (16') Fun Finder - 25 gallon black, 25 gallon fresh, 32 gallon grey, 235 pound hitch weight. I have an Equalizer hitch, which has both weight distribution and anti-sway. It's a little "overkill", but I have NO fear driving in winds, that's for sure! I like my little trailer a lot.

You have a bigger black tank than me, Mitch. I think those Fun Finder's are sooooo cute. And I've never heard of not being able to use a WD system on smaller sizes. So either the salesman is blowing wind or there is something else (which would make no sense) not allowing it. Many that size don't use them, but others, like Mitch, prefer the extra protection.

The salesman was not blowing wind. You can use a WDH on a small trailer but you need to make sure the weight rating is appropriate to the size and weight of the trailer. If you use a WDH that is too robust, you can twist the frame on a small trailer if you adjust it wrong (like too much torque on one side or the other.) You can also take too much weight off the hitch and that will take weight off the rear wheels and you can get sway.

Sue, you might look at this http://www.etrailer.com/Weight-Distribution/Reese/RP66069.html?feed=npn&gclid=CNjsrpfYt7cCFcqDQgodGzYA_g. You just need to make sure it will fit on the a-frame with the battery and propane tanks. There are other lightweight WDH systems out there but this one seemed to be the easiest to use since it only has one bar and the pressure is put on the bar evenly split between the a-frame.

Hope this helps.

Laura, that I understand ... but you aren't saying you can't use one... just that you need the appropriate one. And I'm just used to salesmen blowing wind lol

Thanks for clarifying.

The salesmen or service people will usually tell you that you can't use one because of the danger of using it incorrectly and then you will bring the TT back and tell them the frame is bent and they have to fix it under warranty. Just a guess as to the reason they say no.

I'll get one for my new trailer but it has a regular frame that is used on larger trailers. I'll also take the Jeep and trailer to a certified scale to make sure I have it hooked up correctly. I only need to move about 350 lbs off the rear axle of the Jeep to the front axle to be set up correctly. I have no way of determining that other than taking it to a CAT scale and paying for the 3-4 separate trips across the scales. Once I know where to set it, I'll be fine each time I set it up. I can tow the trailer fine the way it is but I'll feel better having a WDH and it will be a better towing experience.
