Ice & Snow Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Ice & Snow Friday

Postby Colliemom » Fri Apr 12, 2013 6:17 am

Good Morning everyone,

This latest spring storm sure is turning into a doozy. Seems it's affecting everybody all across the country. Snow, ice, winds, tornadoes, torrential rains, flooding etc. And unfortunately I have friends who left on Wednesday for a week and a half vacation, pulling their popup. Were originally going to AR, but decided to head for KY instead and the Land Between the Lakes. First they were going to stop in southern Michigan to visit family, so I am sure they are holded up there, waiting this storm out.

Barbie, you are not the only one who woke up to sleet hitting your window. The entirer east side of my house is coated with ice from yesterday and last night rain/freezing rain which then turned to snow during the night. From the looks of it, when the dogs went out, I don't think there is more than a couple of inches, but under it is ice and slush. So the morning commute, such as it is is going to be treacherous to say the least. All schools, colleges, bussing, you name it, from the central part of the state all the way into he U.P. are closed. And naturally I have a Chirpractor appt. this morning as does Ms. Tessa with her vet. I will go, but will leave early and take my time. Can always turn back if it looks way too bad. But at the moment the wave of all this stuff is passsing on and a bit of a lull looks to be appraching.

The bathroom is all painted and after I get home, will put things back together in there. That will be my project for today. I doubt there will be a doggie walk this afternoon, as the road will be too sllippery from the cars going in and out and packing this junk down. This crazy weather has people who normally have plows on their trucks, scrambing to put them back on as most took them off with the clear dry roads and thawing weather we have been having these past couple of weeks. And in this area, we have some seismic crews doing gas and oil exploratoin. They have orange cables running everywhere, across drives, roads etc., so hard to blow or plow without hitting one. I have one across my drive, but know where it is. I have no plans to blow my drive right now unless it piles up too much. Would rather just let it melt on it's own. And being so wet and heavy, it's like trying to blow water.

Well, guess I had better get moving here. Just finished a bowl of cereal and some strawberries, am now drinking a glass of OJ.

Have a good day everyone. Those in the path of this storm, stay safe, keep eyes and ears open for warnngs, stay dry if you are being rained on and drive safe if you are on the road..

JaneFromMaryland here in Southern Maryland -- light rain here and a bit cooler after record high temps lately. Returned from a five month RV trip, most of which was in Florida from November through March. My '85 Toyota Sunrader 22' Class C needs a few things done to it. New (brighter) lights installed and the closet repaired and strengthened. New latches to be put on all cabinet doors, an electrical outlet to be repaired. Then the outside/engine work to be done and will finally get rid of tire that caused me trouble the entire trip. Oil change upcoming and a thorough check under the hood and body of RV. And then it will be time for more RV trips. Short (3 or 4 night) trips in this area and maybe neighboring states of Virginia or Pennsylvania. Readjusting to four lovely cats and a fifth one who stays in the barns on our farm. No major trips planned except a return to FL for the winter months. Going by private auto to Wyoming and areas West in July and August. THANKS for all the updates and sharing of information here. Special Shout Out to all I met in Hillsborough River State Park in FL in late January. :D

It's not quite nine here and I have decided the rest of the day is for play. I have been up since six and it would take too long to list all I've done since then but I might need a nap before proceeding with said play  It's cool and sunny here but no snow thank goodness. It is supposed to get back into the seventies next week :( when I'll be in STL for a couple of days. I would much rather see 50's or 60's but so far haven't figured out a way to get my way with the weather.

Sue, I know you like winter, but I'll bet you would be happy next winter if you found your RV and did some traveling to some warmer places! Can you imagine not having to plow or shovel or worry about falling?

The news is full of the storm going through the Carolinas, but all we had was rain most of the night. Did not even feel any shaking from heavy winds, so it was not bad at all. The sun is coming in and out and temps are in the lower 70s already. Today is going to be an indoor day for me.

I always do my own taxes, but this year with having an employer in one state and residing in another, moving from one state to another, and then having my residence move within Ohio because my son moved, and each city having its own income tax, I threw up my hands and turned it over to a financial advisor. Bad news is that I ended up paying a LOT in taxes because I had half a year income and am still working part time, and did not have any money taken out of SS for that. Oh, well. Will just have to be very careful for a while. I just HATE this time of year because it is so stressful!!

Got work to do today and a lot of little financial things to check on like insurance. Been avoiding a lot of it, but need to face it finally. Rest of the week is supposed to be nice, so that will cheer me up. Hope things warm up for the rest of you up north.

Good afternoon
It's after morning but my body does not feel that way - was up most of the night.
Some of our storm damage made national news this morning -

http://blog.al.com/breaking/2013/04/nbcs.html

Scary part is that most of the wind damage was centered just a few blocks from my house . Weather service has not yet decided if tornado or just straight line winds responsible. I have not been out to check for damage here, at rental property or to see if Magic okay. My dog sitter exchange friend had roof damage such that water poured in her den. Know there was some flooding on west side of town.

Sun is out but it is struggling to reach 60s today. At least some of the pollen washed away and the count is temporarily down. My stopped up head cannot tell that yet.
