So sorry to hear this, Velda. Depending on what your doctors say, my friend who was given a couple months a few years ago decided to look into an alternative treatment (he'd had more surgeries, chemos, etc than we can count) in Ensenada. He's healthier now than in years. His stateside doctors can't figure it out. Just another possible option.

Barbie, I know you'll make whatever will be the best decision for you at this time. Hugs.

Velda, I am so sorry to hear this news too. Things seemed to finally be going so well. How disappointing to have to deal with it all again. Stay strong and I will be praying for you and your husband and family.

Not good news here either. My dad will most likely pass tonight or tomorrow. He wasn't doing well when we saw him this afternoon but we got a call from the hospital a little while ago and he is going downhill. They are just going to make him as comfortable as possible at this point.

My brother and I have been doing a lot of talking about things, about our dad, the past, the present, etc. Financial situation is a big mess, the house is a big mess. I have decided that I need to move back here and my brother is very relieved to hear that. I know he is very stressed already and he just cannot handle everything by himself that will need to be done over the next several months.

Will be here until after the funeral probably at the end of the week and then fly back, pack up and drive back here. California will still be there for me once all this is taken care of. Priorities...

Thank you everyone. I so appreciate the support. Barb, yes I had hoped things were evening out. just can't catch a break.
Beth if you have any information on that place in Ensenada, I would like to keep it on file.we would have to get passports.
Barb, my heart goes out to you at this difficult time.

Velda, so sorry to hear the news about your husband. Glad you have a place here where you can share your feelings. I know when I was going thru my cancer, Bob was my rock even though he couldn't always hide his feelings of frustration and helplesness that he couldn't "fix" anything.

Barbie, also sorry to hear about your Dad. Think you have made a good decision to stay and not leave your brother to handle all the aftermath alone. California will still be there if that's what you choose to do.

Velda, he goes to the Hoxsey Clinic. http://www.hoxseybiomedical.com/
To give you an idea, he's a Viet Nam vet... Has agent Orange. Cancer in lungs, several organs, brain. I know nothing works for everyone, but he wishes he'd switched to this much sooner. It has saved his life to this point.

As to the passport, if you have enhanced California drivers licenses they might work.

Thank you Beth. I've never heard of an enhanced drivers license. Have to look that up. I would be so grateful for the miracle of time for Mel.

According to DMV.org only these four states offer enhanced drivers license: Michigan , Vermont , new York , and Washington. Shucks

Interesting. Further reading states California stopped plan for enhanced DL because the enhancement is a RFID chip that is unencrypted and offers a security risk of being able to be read with a inexpensive reader from 30 ft exposing all your personal data. Guess I'm glad now CA doesnt have the EDL. I thought the new chipped credit cards were RFID too and heard they are a risk too but they were forced on us.

I think there is a passport card that you can get that is cheaper but only good for driving across the boarder. Can't use it for flying. Might be easier/faster to get than a full passport. Here is what I googled...

"What is the difference between a U.S. passport and a passport card?
A U.S. passport (or passport book) is valid for all forms of international travel by Americans anywhere in the world, although a visa may be required for entry into certain countries. A U.S. passport card is only valid for sea or land crossings into the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. You cannot use a passport card for international travel by air."

Thank you Barbie. I had heard of the passport card. Once we learn more about what is going on, I will look into it.

Velda, if you think you might want a passport or passport card, I'd go forward with it asap. It can take time to get.

Thanks Beth, I don't think we will go to Mexico but I want to see about Passports anyhow as I would like to see Canada again.
