Happy NEW YEAR TO ALL the Forum friends!!! I slept through all the midnight doings around here. Beautiful sunshine day with a few puffy white clouds. Cool though.

Off to watch the last Chargers game and I mean that literally. Strong rumor is they are off to LA very soon. Good riddance...I do not like the owners.

Have a great day all, Lyn

Happy New Year Everybody from not so sunny Kino Bay. We are getting the wind and a little rain that Carol got earlier. Still better than freezing rain and snow. Enjoy today and every day of the new year. Peggy

The rabbits just woke up around here. We were up for ringing in the new year and watching Netflix until late. Hope the year 2017 brings good things for all of us and our families. I woke with a back/hip,spasm so will not be racing around and am thankful I have an appointment tuesday with chiropractor. We enjoyed our usual appetizer feast last night, which we will finish today and tomorrow then it's back to green smoothies, salads, and juicing! Have a good day all.

if you stay in Tucson through Thursday, a few of us will be going to the Desert Museum. We'd love to have you join us.

Happy New Year Everyone, I didn't say Rabbits, the only time I did remember to say it I didn't have a good month. It's been fairly pleasant here most of the day was sunny and 47 degrees. I think the cold is coming at the end of the week though.

Congratulations Betty what a great way to start the New Year! I hope you have many happy adventures.

Hello all & Happy New Year! I remembered "Rabbits" this morning as I was on the couch due to DH snoring. We spent Christmas in Seattle, taking Amtrak both ways (2 days each way). What a relaxing way to travel, if you don't have a schedule! Return trip was 7 hours late, so we missed dinner with friends including their 24 year-old kid who's now in NYC working as a filmmaker, so we rarely see him. Oh well. New Year's Eve was a nothing here, just as we planned. The "ball dropped" for us long before midnight! Next RV trip is the February GTG at Hillsborough, followed by 10 days at Bonita Springs. Will be glad to leave the Midwest winter. So nice to hear all the updates from everyone & I sure look forward to meeting some of you in Florida in February!

Good evening. All is well here. After church today, Tina and I went on a first-day hike through the piney woods at Longleaf Flatwoods Reserve. A 4.4 mile trail and it was a little too warm by the time we finished. Now we are packing up and getting ready to head to the Hardee Lakes gtg in the morning.

Hello Sue!

Thanks for the good suggestions. I have thought about having a plug-in port installed in the side of the van for a while, but I probably won't do it. Partly because I already have about 2" of foam panel insulation in the walls of the van that would have to come out for the re-do (MAJOR job) and partly that I resolved when I first did the van build not to put any holes in it - mainly because I have yet to see a hole that didn't leak sooner or later, no matter how well it was sealed. And when it did leak it would leak inside the wall (inside the insulation) and I wouldn't know about it until it started to smell with mold. Good idea, though. Putting the extension cord through the partially rolled-down window is dead easy (a lot easier than having a port put in the side of the van!)

As to putting stripes and such on the sides of the van to dress it up a bit and make it look more like a camper. . . well, I have thought about that too, but prefer the plain-jane "stealth" approach. As it is, it looks like a cargo van - and I just park it in my driveway next to my Nissan. I live in a, um, "working class" neighborhood, and try not to announce that there is a camper on the block. Also, when I go places I prefer the stealth look as well - there are a jillion white Chevy/GMC cargo vans on the road everywhere (look for them next time you are out driving!) and my van just kinds of "blends in" and doesn't attract any notice. I like it that way.

I have a memory-foam mattress on a platform for sleeping, with plastic-drawer storage underneath. I also have a Coleman camp stove for cooking on the road, utensils, and a Dometic ac/dc refrigerator that looks like a large ice chest that works great. I also have a porta-potti, so I am good to go!!

If anyone is interested, please check out the link to my van build below. Or, here is a direct link to the van part:

http://heartdogs.net/wordpress/?page_id=171

This is a five-part story of my van build; there is a link at the bottom of each page to the next part of the story.

Since I posted the photos, I have removed one of the beds, which I really didn't need. It gives quite a bit more nice space to move around inside than the photos suggest.

Catherine:

The van is really perfect for my needs, and I do drive it fairly frequently - which keeps the tires round and the battery charged. I am very happy with it.

Thanks for the Congrats, everyone! :-)

So far I am finding retirement pretty awesome!!

I also like having it parked in my driveway, because I take it out once a week or so for a spin.

Anne

Happy New Years from a very cold and rainy and windy Tucson. "Go to Arizona it is warm down there" my friends said....well I am still waiting. Rabbits did not help today so I just hibernated in my warm and cozy RV. Hope I dont freeze to death in Quartzsite

I'm with you Anne on decals, if I could I'd have mine removed but my Class B is so old I'm sure it would either then require a paint job or it would leave marks. I see several new class B's that do not have decals so maybe it is a new trend. I remember when I bought a new Toyota Sienna van in '05 the salesman, thinking it was special, had a small gold stripe placed down each side. I was not happy !!

BJ - we went truck shopping for a new Nissan Frontier in FL, and every one we looked at had a dorky pinstripe running the entire length; the dealer said they were painted on, not decals so they wouldn't remove it... so we refused to buy one. Waited until we got home to IL and bought a nice normal looking truck.
