So far, I am staying ahead of Andrea, although it is raining here in Paris this afternoon....Paris, Virginia, that is!

The dogs and I arrived at a mean little privately run, run-down, very primitive campsite off route 17 about 15 miles from Winchester on Route 81 at about noon. It has rained since we got here, although the driving was mostly good with just a few widely-scattered very mild showers on the roads. I will discuss this campsite at large when I am sure no other eyes can view what I write! However, I do have 20 amp power, 6 TV stations, 4 of which are religious, and the other 4 are cooking, crafts, kids, and possibly one news channel! I hope to leave early in the morning for the Jonestown PA KOA where I plan to meet up with my brother and sister-in-law for a while, hopefully. If it is still raining, I have no clue where we will all sit as this trailer is packed in stow mode for the trip, with very little sitting space. I guess I could at least free up the sofa for tomorrow!

It is so good to see some surrounding hills and low mountains now after 7 months in the flat, flat state of FL-----it is pretty to my eyes, and I even like towing up and down hills on the roads. My gas mileage actually improved with the hills, for some strange reason. I need to figure out how to get this new ecoboost engine to get better gas mileage----10 miles per gallon pretty much sucks!

Hope all of you who will be in the path of Andrea will keep an eye to the sky and check with the latest weather reports. I am looking forward to getting on I 81 for the last push toward home for the next couple of days. Route 17 was beautiful driving today----I love that diagonal route between the thruways.

Met a man next to me last night at the campground who had a KIA and was towing one of those teensy little beds-on-wheels capsule sort of things. Under the back lift-up door, he had a full kitchen! Amazing. The rest of the rig was a king-sized bed, AC, TV, and that's about it, accessed through a dog-house type of door. I could never put up with that confinement, but he gets about 22 miles per gallon!

they are going to disconnect the wire that lets you use DC so it won't happen again I doubt I would ever intentionally turn it on DC anyway.

BJ, am I understanding this correctly? Wouldn't you need the DC if you wanted to run your fridge while in transit? I know it runs on gas, but I thought that it also needed battery power to do so. Ladies?

You need to have something to spark the propane so that it will cool the fridge. If the DC is disconnected, the propane can't be used -- it'll only work on AC.

BJ, you need check about adding some sort of kill switch, so that when the rig is parked/stored ALL power is shut down. As mentioned somewhere on the forum before, there are lots of things that draw on your batteries, so the fridge isn't the only culprit. The easiest, most sure-fire way to deal with accidentally dead batteries is to make sure they're totally disconnected when you're not using your rig.

Humm I know it does need the battery to spark the refrigerator so I don't know what he did... I don't switch it to DC when I'm in transit just leave it on propane. He assured me he turned the fridge on and off several times and it worked fine and it wasn't plugged in so we shall see.
I do have a switch where I can turn my batteries off and I need to do that now as he said he left them on.
The question he finally cleared up for me was that I don't have to turn the propane off outside when I get gas, just turn the fridge off before I get to the pump and them turn it back on when I get away from pump! I kept telling him I wasn't able to turn the outside thing off and was it ok to force it with a wrench and he finally realized what I was saying.
I'll let you know how this works out!

I suspect he just disabled the switch to run the fridge on DC. That will run your batteries down fast if accidentally left in that position. My refrigerators in my B vans were 3-way, and I used to run them on DC when driving, as the RV engine kept the batteries charged. But if I stopped at Walmart or to take a hike, it was necessary to change it to propane....I did forget that a time or two.

My Rv now is 2-way, so it runs on propane when driving. That used to worry me, but I got over it.
