Rainy Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Rainy Monday

Postby Colliemom » Mon Sep 26, 2011 7:18 am

A rainy Monday here at the 45th. Not raining at the moment but did during the night and more is coming in. No problem for me as I am off today, so can stay in where it's nice and dry for the most part. I do have to take Tessa out to my groomers this morning and then do a bit of shopping after. Then will come home and do a bit of house cleaning before pickking her up later this afternoon. So may day is going to be busy. Then will go back to work tomorrow to rest up

Yeserday was the first Sunday I have had off since I started back to work last April. Went to church in the morning and spent most of teh day outside while it was nice, cleaning out flower barrels. pulling up weeds, cutting grass, putting some outdoor decorative stuff away and all that usual seasonal putting away of things. Am all set outside now except for washing windows and waiting for the leaves to come down. So now i can enjoy the beautiful fall colors as they come in.

This is my last week of work for the season. And the weatehr forecast for the following week looks really nice. So this coming weekend I am hooking up the TT and hauling out for a few days of camping for the last time this year. Not sure just where I am going yet, but am looking at the U.P. at the moment. May venture up to Indian Lake State Park for a couple of days and then perhaps back to Aloha for the last couple of days. I have to be at work the following Friday as that weekend is out HalloweenFestival weekend. Although i said I am done working for the season, our fiscal years ends on the 30th, so the work I do on the HalloweenFest weekend is actually the start of the next season. When I go back in the spring, I will already have some hours in for the 2012 season. Confused yet

Time for Tessa and I to be off. Those of you who are in areas where the fall colors are turning, enjoy. Those with health problems, take care and know you are in all of our prayers. Those on the road, travel safe and enjoy your adventures. And for the rest of you, have a great day.

Well it's going to be a muddy Monday if it keeps raining all day. I'm free camping in a National Park cg on the Natchez Trace. I'm planning to spend several days here and take advantage of the several hiking trails. Not today though. This is a nice cg, especially since it's free. It's been recently improved with new paving in the roads and cg sites. Many large level pull-throughs. There are 2 new restroom buildings with flush toilets, soap dispensers, and hand dryers. The friendly cg hosts are keeping them spotless. There are fresh water spigots throughout the cg as well as drinking fountains. And both my cell phone and Mifi card work here.

So since it's going to be a rainy day, I have a good book to curl up with.

Maybe this will be the day, Soos! Maybe you will get to see the birth after all, if Joe decides he can't handle it after the birthing class. That's how I came to watch my gd being born, my son-in-law was afraid to. Mandy will want someone with her.

Have a great day everybody, whatever your weather.

Good morning, beautiful day here, going to be hot later on, no rain in forecast, that I have heard of.

I checked in especially to see if we could start calling Soos, Grandma yet. Last few days always feel the longest and these hopeful signs can make it even worse. Good luck to Mandy, we're all hopefully waiting. If she knows this, she may feel more pressure, oh dear !!

Have been looking for color here, we're east of the Rockies, they have snow up there already, no real color here yet though, still most days in the 80's which shouldn't be. Oh well, weather is weather and nothing we can do about it. I am hoping to see some nice color on my drive home though or at least that I am not to late to see color at my house.

I do hope that all are well and Safe travels for those on the road. I'm behind reading on the forum, but do hope your sister is doing better, Sarah and Mitch that George is welll on his way to being his sweet self.

Have a great day and Stay safe,
CArol :)

GOOD MORNING SUE, LIZ, CAROL, AND ALL!

Sue's agenda is about as clear as mud, but I am sure she right on top of it!

Sorry about the rain, Liz, although it sounds as if you have found another campground treasure. I do hope you are keeping track of where these little free gems are located.

Carol, when do you start home? Will you stay in camprgrounds with cabins, or in motels? Whichever, I hope you will have a safe and pretty trip home.

Yes, yesterday's hopeful "cramps" Mandy casually mentioned on her way to her birthing class proved to be nothing. She has been so closed-mouthed that I jumped to a wrong conclusion when I saw her grabbing her hospital bag of stuff, muttering, "Wouldn't it be ironic....!" ----although I do bellieve she thought it might be possible that the little guy might have picked yesterday for his birthday! Sigh----in due time, literally!

The day has arrived with a cloudless sky and 73 degree temperatures----absolutely beautiful here. Molly and I will go walking in the woods behind the house here, so as to stay close at hand, in case!

Time to get outside and take the route (now a well-worn rut) around the two ponds that Molly and I take several times a day as she hunts and pounces on frogs like a fox leaps up and pounces on mice! This has become one of the highlights of her days! The maples are beginning to get their fall colors now, and so I might get some early shots of them. Coffee is hot, and I have made my own creamer now from fat-free half and half flavored with immitation vanilla----quite good, actually, although I may add some Splenda to the mix for just a hint of sweetness. Stop in and let us know what's going on.

Happy travels!

Soos, I can hear your fingers just drumming the table with your impatience...waiting is so worth it though. Babies do what babies want to do....we know that but, boy, we really don't always like it. :D

Sue in MI, I always get a little jealous when I know your fur kids are heading off to the groomers. :D My back aches every time I put one of the bigger kids here in the bathtub and wash/spray them down. The toweling off and required floor/old quilt/blanket wrap just gets laughed at by Herschel and cleaned up later by me. Many of my friends have added raised tubs to their mud room options but it is the old fashion way around here. When I adopted Remi it dawned on me quickly why folks likes the little "toy" breeds. Remi may be 14 pounds but he fits in the sink! My clipper work has improved over the years but I still have trouble believing that back when I was still working and the kids were showing AKC and 4-H, I managed to maintain a Golden and 4 English Cockers in show coat..... I must have been a crazy woman. well and a lot younger.

My thoughts are with those facing some tough medical "journeys" and those traveling (especially heading out to AR) safe travels full of good adventures... :)

I have to go to town after lunch so trying to decide whether to get my groceries today or wait unit I head out on Wednesday. No matter how much I do in advance I always seem to have 50 trips to the camper before I pull out. My DH took the horse to the vet and she has another abscess in her foot. He was telling me the doctoring schedule and I didn't remind him that I'm leaving Wednesday. My son is going to have to help him or he can bring her back to the vet. We have been doctoring a cut on another foot for about a month and it's down to about the size of a dime. He wanted to put some stuff on it this weekend that would have eaten all the healed part off and it would have been like starting over. I managed to talk him out of it and the vet agreed with me. I would like to see him get another horse so he would have something else to do but I'm afraid he is going to get hurt. The one we have now is dog gentle.

When I was looking for a puppy for my son the cost of grooming was one of the main considerations. I'm not going to spend more getting a dog groomed than I spend on my hair cut. I got him a Boston Terrier and it was a good match except that Butch never did learn to leave the skunks alone. We usually have a flea problem in the spring and he learned that a bath would get rid of the fleas. He would go get in the bathtub by himself and sit and look at me.

You know, I never worry much about giving Jed a bath. I was always under the impression that if they're brushed fairly regularly they don't need bathing. I understand if they're going to be shown -- that's a whole other ballgame -- or if they tangle with a skunk. But Jed gets a bath maybe every 2-3 months, and then it's only because I'm feeling guilty or something. He has a very mild doggy aroma, but it's nothing I can't stand. And when he does get a bath PetSmart does a great job.

What's your take on bathing dogs?

I also look for dogs whose grooming is brushing and the occasional bath. Peaches gets more baths than any dog I've ever had, during certain seasons, because she attracts fleas. And, yep, baths get rid of them. Most of the dogs here this summer don't have fleas. I have to admit I was happy when one other couple told me their dog attracts them also. I love them all - but high maintenance dogs and me - well, not going to happen.

Luckily Herschel does not seem to need as many baths as the smaller dogs. They all get brushed regularly and that does seem to help the most. A lot depends upon where he has been (hiking, swimming, etc) and where he is going. I do not need to bathe him before going to visit his friends but he does get a few more baths because he goes. For mild doggy smell but the coat looks and feels clean we have all sorts of grooming product :o :) that smell very nice. Stuart's coat picks up "stuff" fairly easily and since he really loves to sleep on the bed he get more baths. Remi's coat is non shedding and seems to dry out between shampoos. Since he is always in people's laps and on beds at the nursing home he gets a bath much more often. He has to keep his peeps happy! The creme rinse really helps his coat feel soft. But then again, he is my sink dog! I have found that each dog seems to have its on coat needs.

I groom my three and long for a sink that the little ones would fit in but my bathtub has a built in seat on one end so I can sit. For Winnie, I put a plastic storage container in the tub to sit her on so I don't have to bend over so far. Charley is the easiest in the bath as he does what I tell him. I have a dog hair dryer for him but use my hair dryer on the little ones. I'd rather groom two big poodles than the Havanese, aaagh their hair is so fine. When Charley could lay down on the grooming table I did all sorts of fancy cuts, the puffs on his legs, but now I have to groom him on the floor so he is cut short all over except his head. I bathe according to need!
The rain finally stopped here and it was a beautiful fall day. Glad you have your laptop with you Sarah so we can hear from you more often!

C'mon Liz, a little more info on that free cg!! HU's of any kind and most important, where the heck is it??? And how do you find these jewel's? I always look for pull thrus for overnite since it's a pain in the patootie to unhook the car for one nite and I like to get an early start so I can stop early. Better choice of spots that way.

Now Sharon, don't you know Liz well enough by now to be able to figure it's going to be a national forest or coe campground or similar? Once you realize that - it's easy to find them :) But this one seems to be big rig friendly - so you'd even be able to go there. It would be the kind of place I'd love to go for a gtg.

Just for the record, Molly has never had a bath in her entire life as she panics, totally, at being in any water. She sleeps in my bed with me, and I have never noticed any doggy odor....unless she gets soaked in the rain, and then it disappears when she dries out. Perhaps she sould win for being the dirtiest dog in exixtence, but I suspect her wild dingo relatives in the Carolinas never get bathed, either!
