THURSDAY AND COLDER

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

THURSDAY AND COLDER

Postby Nasoosie » Thu Jan 07, 2010 5:28 am

GOOD MORNING ALL!

It's about 10 degrees and falling up here in the mountains, below freezing throughout most of FL, and snow predicted in many states. BUT hang on----- it's to get colder yet by Saturday, all over! The crops in the southern states are really fighting for their lives, as are the farmers. It's still snowing up here, and I see that we got another 3 to 4 inches overnight. I have no clue what the total snowfall might be now, but it's deeper than I can remember having at this house since January of 1979. I remember that year because I was about to give birth to my son and decided to go for a snowmobile ride on the property. The snowmobile quit, I stupidly had no snowshoes with me, and when I stepped off into the snow, I found it was waist-deep! I had to crawl/plow my 9-month pregnant body home through it all for about a quarter of a mile. I hollered at the people sitting around the kitchen table, chatting and totally ignoring the fact that I was WAY later getting home than I should have been, and asked why, WHY hadn't somebody taken another snowmobile to come looking for me! Weldon was born just a few days later! Sigh----good thing I was in tip-top shape back then! Yes, it was an idiotic move on my part!

Back to the grind today, and I hope to find out what the school board agreed upon in regard to compensation for my sick days accrued. Either way, I will be sure to get my due reward for not having ever abused the use of them.

Those in FL will be awakening to frozen things, I am sure, and better have some WARM clothes to get out for several days! I just hope all your pipes and water lines don't freeze and burst, and that your furnaces are in top working order! I know the furnace in my house down there where my son and Melissa are living is cranked up, and they are nice and warm inside while ice is forming outside in Orlando. We have some members battling this cold: Kath, Liz, and many others heading to Liz's GTG today! Luckily, Liz was able to get a large, heated cabin for at least one night in which they can all meet to get warm and eat together. I am thinking they had best reserve it for another couple of nights by chipping in some money, as I suspect it will such a relief from the bitter cold. I am seeing temps of 21 degrees in the FL panhandle for today.

I will be staying close to my wood fire this weekend, as our predictions are for temps way below zero by Saturday----probably will hit -30 where I live, with NO chill factor. Guess I'd better get some more wood onto the covered porch for the next few nights. It's getting to be a pain having to shovel out the wood piles every day now.

Coffee is Hazlenut and nice and hot, so pull up a chair and warm your hands and feet while telling us about your plans for the day! I can't wait for some pics of Liz's doings! Happy Thursday!

Drive carefully today, ladies, as you head for frigid FL!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Good morning from sunny, frigid Florida! 25* in Ocala this morning. But, things will warm up soon. I understand laughter generates warmth, and it's already begun! Tina and Sarah arrived last night and we all stayed up past 11 p.m. talking, laughing, and playing cards. Of course that was here in my nice warm house. We might not last that long around the campfire. After breakfast we'll call the cg and find out how soon we can get our sites. Carolyn (SunshineCruiser) called that she's coming today too...a day earlier than expected.

More later.

Good morning everyone!

Things are fine here except I couldn't get to sleep last night until nearly 1 a.m. Of course I get up by 5:50 a.m. to get ready for work (I'm slow ) So this a.m. I'm barely dragging. aarrrgghhh....

Forecast here is not too bad.... This 10-day is from The Weather Channel for my zip code:

Jan 07 Few Snow Showers 23°/14°
Jan 08 Snow Shower 18°/9°
Jan 09 AM Snow Showers 11°/2°
Jan 10 Partly Cloudy 17°/10°
Jan 11 Few Snow Showers 24°/13°
Jan 12 Few Snow Showers 22°/11°
Jan 13 Partly Cloudy 24°/16°
Jan 14 Mostly Cloudy 30°/21°
Jan 15 Few Snow Showers 31°/16°
Jan 16 Partly Cloudy 27°/19°

No real snow predicted, and nothing below zero. Come on over, Soos,... I guess we all have to remember that it is January... hopefull we get a January thaw eventually.

Tonight is another girl's basketball game. Tomorrow night I'll go to a neighboring town to see girls play again,...Kath's neice coachs her home town's JV team so we'll go see her in action as a coach. Saturday will be heading to Plattsburgh to the movies.

Have a great day everyone!

Wish I could have been in on the Florida card game last night!
We have about 4 inches of snow this morning temps dropping through out the day with wind 10-20 it is howling out there now. Next two days it supposed to be highs of 14 and lows around zero. brrrrr
I couldn't get to sleep last night either Cedar but then I didn't have to get up this morning. I woke around 4:30 and turned on the TV. Rick Steves travel show was on and that is always good so I toured virtually around the Cotswalds.
I think I'll put on a pot of soup and then curl up with a blanket and a book, plus a dog or two.Winnie actually stepped outside this morning briefly didn't take long to satisfy her curiosity about the snow.

Just got to work. Got some hot Irish Creme Cappuccino sitting here. We had some snow overnight, not much but the wind is really whipping it around so the roads were bad and slow going this morning. It is still a little below zero, but there is light at the end of the tunnel; by the middle of next week, temps are supposed to be in the low 30's. Heat wave!! So maybe the cold everywhere else will be over by then too. Too late for the FL GTG tho :(

Have a great day and keep warm!

Good morning again ladies! its chilly and foggie here but I do hear maybe some sunshine this afternoon!! :D

went over to the Rv dealership to take my trailer out to have my regular person finish up and didnt get to far... LOL The kid said he would have it done by the end of the week.. I sure hope so!! With the shelf being put in I can get the drawers I want to set on that and get some stuff back in the trailer... and get it cleaned up again... I am getting really ansy to go someplace.. Maybe a few nice days will take me to the beach... ( hope hope) I must start making some reservations for this coming summer too...

Friend of mine just bought a Nash 5er..( 23 ft). nice trailer.. I looked at it, but decided it didnt have anymore room that what I have now.. but gonna keep my eyes open for another small 5er for next yr.. I honestly hate to tow a trailer behind the pickup... I just get use to doing so... then winter comes and my confidence goes back down the drain.... I do feel better with a 5er like I had before... I do love my little trailer very much.. Maybe I need to get out more and get more experience going places...

No special plans today... darn dogs got me up to early today ( 5:30) so I maybe taking a nap!!

have a great day all!!

We were supposed to get some snow last night, luckily that did not happen. We got the cold air blast as predicted so I am staying toasty inside. The puppies are surprising me by wanting to go outside. They are such woosies about the weather usually. Maybe it's their new friends next door?

I also heard that the weather will start to warm up over the weekend. We should have balmy temps (low 30s) on Saturday and positively tropical temps (40s) on Sunday. You east coasters can look forward to some warming up soon.

Everyone take care, and remember FL GTGers, we want pictures please. Linda

Mitch, you have to get a snow shovel...the sand shovel will take way too long!  Just be careful you don't throw your back out lifting all that heavy snow!

That's why I'm going to make George do it. Or just wait a couple of hours until it blows away! :)

Mitch, you probably don't need to get the snowblower out this time, altho a broom might do the trick :)

Whew, the first Blizzard of 2010 is FINALLY over. It's been blowing and snowing all day. I just went outside (3:45P) to snap this picture...
I think we'll be okay until the roads are clear...I stocked up on bread and milk and water yesterday.

Barb, ya gotta understand Mitch, Mitch was being Mitch, kinda like rubbing it in that
she only got a dusting, gosh, I hope she doesn't throw her back out shoveling all that
heavy snow! She's just too funny, her and Vickie both crack us all up.

I know...was trying to be sarcastic with the snowblower comment. I have a very dry sense of humor which seems to go over most people's heads, especially in writing. Most people think I am a doofus, when I am actually just trying to be funny... (Thank God for laughing smilies!)
