It’s Wednesday Again

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

It’s Wednesday Again

Postby Colliemom » Wed Jul 12, 2023 7:55 am

Good Morning. Middle ofJuly already :| Seemslike it was just Memorial Day and then the 4th of July was here and now gone. Be Labor Day before we know it

Cloudy and 56° this morning. Heading to mid 70’s, just a tad below normal, but fine by me. Looks like some good rain later tonight. Hope it stays away from Vermont as it moves east. Rosemary is out that way somewhere as she posted in either May or June that she was heading for the NE and maybe the Canadian Maritimes. Rain has helped the Quebec fires, at least in the southern areas.

Neighbor came over and picked up the planter box. I helped her load it in her truck and then went with her to help unload. They are just like a couple of kids with a new toy. I gave her what stain I had left from mine and she’s going to get more. Have to figure out how much to charge them, as I don’t keep track of hours I do these things. Just do them for the fun of it. Do have the cost of materials figured up though.

Today is haircut and grocery shopping. Might go back to town late this afternoon as there is a German band concert as part of Alpenfest. Fun to hear Ommpa ommpa. There’s some kind of concert every night. Gaylord adopted a Swiss theme for its downtown area over 50 years ago as part of a revitalization to freshen up an aging downtown area. Many of the buildings were built back in the late 1800-early 1900’s when logging was king here. Was looking like a lot of other northern Michigan towns, just a highway through town with drab storefronts. So the Alpine theme came about and revitalized downtown as all the businesses remodeled to Swiss themed storefronts. We are also a Sister City to Pontresina, Switzerland. They sent us a huge rock from the Swiss Alps which is displayed downtown. Alpenfest was born as a way to celebrate the Swiss heritage celebrations in Switzerland. Main drag is closed to traffic for a week and is transformed into an arts and crafts fair, amusement rides, food vendors, a Walking parade for those who want to dress in Swiss outfits, for contests of all kinds for both adults and kids and of course music and a Grand Parade. It’s evolved into kind of a home ing for those who no longer live here. Today is the Walking parade followed by the Worlds Largest Coffee Break. Free coffe and donuts to all who have an Alpenfest pin. Many businesses open a bit late as everybody heads down there. Gaylord also holds the distinction of being the only city in Michigan allowed to close a major State highway down for a week for a festival. Traffic is detoured around the two blocks ia city streets and works perfectly. Has never been one accident in it’s over 50 years of running. There is also one person from the community chosen to be the “Der Burgermeister” or Honorary Mayor of the city for the week. The movers and shakers I call them. They are out there quietly doing what they do. This person is always someone who has given unselfishly of time, talent, generosity etc. for the better of the community. They receive the key to the city and a beautiful in ornately decorated black jacket to wear. One of my neighbors holds that distinctive honor from a few years ago. They are known as the “Black Jackets”. Same goes for the Parade Marshals. This years Birgermeister is the Executive Director of our County Commission on Aging.

Sue, I love that and would probably be there every day. What a fun time.

Fairly heavy clouds here today and I can see that it's raining on the other side of the mountains. We only have a 20% chance of rain today, but what a difference with 70% humidity lol. One of the men out walking said that he was used to sweating from the heat of the sun, today he's sweating from the humidity. I actually found this to be a very pleasant walk. 75 degrees right now.

Sue, what a wonderful tradition for Gaylord.

Makes me wish I was there more than ever.

I don't know what the humidity is this morning but I had to turn the fan on me when I came back in from feeding the cats. The temperature is only 89. It kind of looks like it might rain again. I just mowed the other day and it needs it again. Dumb butt Charlie has taken to going across the road. I really think he's deaf and he's going to get run over if he doesn't stay out of the road. He moves about as fast as I do.

Abbeville has a sister city in France. That city had an omelet celebration so Abbeville has one too. I don't remember why they celebrate with an omelet.

Doctor's offices are getting ridiculous with their confirmations. I have an appointment with a dermatologist on Monday. Last night they sent me an email about the appointment telling me it's a $100 if I don't confirm or keep the appointment. This morning I got a text about confirming so I did. I just got a call to confirm again. At this rate I will probably hear from them every day.

I got another letter from the Dept of Agriculture about the estate again. I have to dig out some tax papers and go talk to them again. Is this ever going to end? I want to see my son try to keep all this straight.

Just 1:00 here and already heating up. I just finished mowing the front and back so got that off my chore list. Would have been better to wait until later this afternoon but they upped the chances of rain from 40% to 70% for late this afternoon. So was determined to get it done. Now I’m sitting under the fan in the kitchen cooling down. I need to get a shower since I have a doctor appointment later today. Our Heritage Days started today with lots of vendors and live entertainment later. Hope it stops raining early enough this evening for people to get out. Ends Saturday with a big parade and fireworks at 10 pm. Still haven’t decided if I want to leave home for awhile or ride it out to see just how Buddy reacts. The show usually only lasts about 15-20 minutes. We had a nice walk yesterday morning and met a lady and her 7+ year old Lab. It went surprisingly well and we walked together. It was funny, at one point I told Buddy to sit and had a treat ready to give him and the other dog sat too! So with owner’s okay I treated him too! Surprised me! Hoping to run into them again. Her dog was off leash but responded to vibration collar. Being that it’s fairly isolated I really had no problem with it. She assured me it’s not an all the time situation. I was a bit nervous when he came running up to us but Buddy seemed calm so I just went with it and glad I did. Buddy didn’t even bark at them! Time to think about a shower and then some lunch before I have to leave. Sue, your town sounds like it goes all out too. Anne, quite a harvest you have! Cheryl, my parents families all settled in Idaho in the Boise valley. My first camping and caught my first fish at a lake somewhere north of the valley. Our humidity is climbing again and I dislike that more than the heat. FedEx is saying my ac unit should come sometime before the end of the day and I hope they read the label where I say to deliver to the driveway side door. They re notorious for leaving packages right out front in view of the main road and with all the extra foot traffic I’m not real trusting. I imagine the box will identify what it is too. If I could get out of this appointment I would but it would take another 6 months to get another. And my neighbors are not home so they can’t even watch for it. Hope you all have a great day and stay safe.

It is just noon here.

I called the AC guy and told him no one showed up yesterday. He said he would check into it with his guys to see what happened and get back to me, but said they have been swamped . As I thought about it after that, I decided to text him back and told him that since my situation isn't urgent, and with the upcoming heat wave pushing 120* coming I am sure they have more urgent calls to take care of right now and I can wait a bit. He texted me back thanking me and said he will contact me in a couple weeks to set up another time.

I was kind of panicking this morning because I have been trying to get ahold of that other real estate agent who was a client at Great Clips. I didn't get a text response this week from him, so I called this morning and left a message to call me. I started thinking maybe he doesn't want to work with me and is avoiding me (going down the insecurity rabbit hole!). Was trying to think of where I could find someone else, etc. Finally, he did call me back and said he is more than happy to help me sell my place starting in August. We talked for awhile and he said he had responded to my text, but I never got it. He has lots of good marketing ideas. He will call me at the end of the month and we can get things figured out from there. So, in the meantime, I have a lot of work to do around here! Now that I have a real deadline, I should be even more motivated now!

Just had breakfast a couple hours ago but am hungry for lunch now... Then back to working on the bedroom. I think I will just put the books in the bigger bins for now just to get them out of the way. I can transfer them to smaller bins later.

Anne, those tomatoes are very unusually shaped! Not good for sandwiches! But I bet they taste good!

Have a good day and stay cool and dry!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good afternoon -

Festival sounds like fun, Sue. They have so many festivals in Leavenworth, but they are a tourist mess. I should try some in smaller nearby towns - now there's a thought!

I went into the dreaded Wenatchee traffic yesterday not realizing the center lane of the main street is closed for construction! Had to do an around the block to get to the car wash - tried a new one and much better than the last. Then around the block to get to my haircut. Stopped for a few groceries at a Safeway sister store Albertson's - they obviously don't all carry the same things! Planned to get shingles shot but was lunch time for them. Went into Leavenworth for the groceries this morning and got the shot. $186. without insurance. More road construction so glad I took the car. Had thought of one of my favorite scenic drives up Icicle River with the Sling, but just read they had multiple car fire up there. When you get up there is only one road in and out.

Have the 2nd quilt block for the wall hanging ready to put together.

I read shingles shot and I think only shot registered and I was wondering if they had a bar in the grocery store out there.

Anita, are you on Medicare? If so, it should be covered now. I know I had to pay but this year it's covered. And hopefully they told you you'll need a second shot.

It is really humid here too I went out for coffee awhile ago and felt a bit sick by the time I got home. I was in AC except getting in and out of the car which was right in from of the coffee shop. After seeing temps in other places I guess I shouldn't complain. Sharon it sounds like Buddy did well on your walk meeting another dog, especially one off leash. You can send any unwanted rain our way as we are are seriously in need. Barbie why so many books, do you keep ones you have already read? My DH thinks it is strange but I download books to my phone and read on it, he wants the book in hand. I can't keep track of an actual book and I can read from my iPhone anywhere. Especially good when appointments are running late. I hope your A/C repair is an easy fix. Martha I'm with you on the constant reminders from doctors. I have received 3 so far on an appointment scheduled for November!

BJ, shots in the grocery store sounds good! A little like Martha's driver through margaritas. I read on my phone with books from the library.

Beth, yes, I'm on Medicare but do not have drug coverage - my choice. I know if I ever change my mine, there will be a penalty. When I signed up the premium and deductible were way more than my current $216 annually for meds.

Karen, you are making me as exhausted reading your list of things you plan to do as does Sue's description of what she plans to do each day! So, what I really want to know is if you actually did all those things. You have not posted, so maybe you are passed out somewhere from working so hard.

The only things I accomplished was to drive to a Quest lab and get my blood tests done, then drove to Ohio and set up in a state park where I will be staying only two nights. My oncologist in Oregon usually orders blood tests every 4-6 months, but I am a couple of months overdue, which is always a concern. I have an Excel spreadsheet of all my blood tests for CLL since 2016. It is a lot like reading the stock market to see where I am. No problems so far, but every time I get tired, I worry. If I do go out of remission, it will mean a few months in Eugene getting back on the targeted meds. It's been over three-and-a-half years, which is not bad.

Tomorrow, I have a dentist appt to get the post or whatever they call it for my tooth implant. I am pretty nervous about this, but at least the more experienced dentist in their practice is doing it this time, not the guy who is no longer there. That guy did two surgeries to put in bone, but this guy is going to do the bone and the implant at the same time. So, I ate my last small steak tonight as I was told soft foods for several weeks. Ugh!! Did buy some of those mashed potato cups and several cans of soup. Also got some chicken thighs I can cook into soup or chicken and noodle casserole. Thighs are a lot softer than chicken breasts.

Wish I had one of those great-looking tomatoes!!

Gotcha. I pay for the cheapest drug coverage and change annually if another is cheaper. Just in case lol But your way may be even better.

Good evening. Judy, most of the time I do get that stuff done but not always. Some days I run out of oomph and others I do even more. I dont work every day tho. I can be a sloth but my goal is to get something done each day. Doesnt have to be a big project but has to be something to get done. I usually work in the morning, have lunch, then I am done....usually. Some days more motivated than others.

Today I was busy until around 1:30, "almost" forgot to eat lunch LOL I try not to do that tho because then I either munch or eat something I shouldn't. Heading into a hot weekend so wont be doing as much. 98/97/98 so my energy conservation practice will be over LOL I will pay more money to be cool. Tomorrow is fertilize the flowers, and put up my last camera then I will be done with that project. My neighbor got his up and put them way up on his house (well the neighbor did it for him) I can reach all mine with my small step ladder.I have a long deck that extends almost the length of my house. The front deck is about half that size. I think he might have forgotten these are rechargeable so have to take them off the mount and bring them in to recharge and it takes 4 or 5 hours but then lasts 180hrs...so they say, depending on your useage. I only turn on the back ones when I go to bed or will be away. The carport and doorbell are on all the time.

we got up and went to lunch at Bubba's yes it's a BBQ place although I had salad and mom had chicken fingers and rings and coleslaw I was really shocked she actually ate more than I've seen her eat in forever most of the three fingers and several rings I had two left two but I didn't see how many were actually there and then got her ice cream huckleberry and she ate all of that ... now ask me what she ate for supper??? I wasn't even going to make any but she wanted some so put out some watermelon celery with peanut butter left from yesterday and she didn't eat over night... some strawberry's and grapes as well as the leftover salsa and chips she ate two pieces of watermelon and most of her milk not a win but with what she ate at lunch I'm ok with it... dd#3 came will be here two nights so tomorrow we will have garlic brown butter spaghetti need to look up the recipe for it it's a take off of a restaurant in SLC super yummy think I have most of the things needed for it it calls for a specific cheese one I can never pronounce starts with a mitz... and I think is goat cheese or is it sheep don't remember
also went tot the post office and renewed her post box for the year home read scriptures and took a nap so not a lot done... but I actually stayed awake after supper  I've been using the spare bedroom for a storage room and mostly the bed so had to clean it off for my dd to sleep in
Anne are those tomatoes .... just hate it when the term is gone just almost there but not quite... a type that was common years ago but now people want more perfection hardiness ect sorta taken the taste out of the tomatoes... I might be back to edit it later when the term comes to mind I came up with the word  Heirloom are they Heirloom tomatoes the misshapen ones?
festivals sound nice rarely been where I have had the opportunity to go to them... Utah has a state holiday which is the 24 of July it's when the pioneers first entered into the valley... there is a lot going on at that time though...
Glad you got in touch with the realtor and hopefully he will be a good fit for you
I'm one of those that reads a book got to the point where I do get rid of the book when in Q I take them so the main library or the library at the rv park that I hopefully will be a member of someday... the last bunch I took to a resale place in Utah they were suppose to let me know if they were able to use any of them and donate what they couldn't didn't hear back abut had almost 300 books (paperbacks) just prefer the feel of a book
you all have a great day
