Sunday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday Morning

Postby Bethers » Sun Jul 02, 2023 10:44 am

I didn't get going as early this morning. There was a little cloud cover which meant 70 degrees was comfortable walking. But, of course, by being late getting out, the sun came out quickly on our walk and I was bad and didn't go the whole distance. That said, Ty actually made the decision to turn towards gone before I intended to. Lol

Nothing happening today. Will play games, watch TV, etc. Oh, I finished watching the first season of Poker Face yesterday. It is interesting and different. I have a feeling it's a you'll like it or hate it kind of show.

A rainy morning with more forecasted for the rest of the day. We heard some fireworks last night but so far Buddy just barks when he hears it, same with thunder. He just looks confused. New sounds for him. I finally took him out for a brief walk last night. We’ve never walked out front of the house so took him across the street to the big church parking lot and down the side street. He actually did pretty well with heeling and sitting. He did bark when he saw a couple walking by on the sidewalk. I lost his attention so need to anticipate that better! Beth, unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a reset button on the ac unit. Just the reset on the plug. Unless that’s what you meant. At least today is cooler but humidity is obviously high! I can live with that for now! Luckily I do have ceiling fans so that helps!
Geez, I remember the road trips when I was a kid and car didn’t have ac! We’d start out really early and then the folks would find a motel in the heat of the day. Worst part for me was getting up early! I was a grump even then when I had to wake up that early! We didn’t have a choice since most of the trips were for moving from one base to another! I realized tolerance level now is do mostly to age but also being spoiled with having ac available! Anyway, I feel for you all dealing with the extreme heat you’re experiencing. Just read this morning that this summer is forecasted to be extremely hot. Off to do throw a load of clothes in and get that started today since I have to be inside anyway! Have a good day all.

Good afternoon. Just finishing lunch. Went to Mass and grocery store, then home. It’s sort of cloudy/hazy and supposed to be about 82° today. Air quality has been moderate, they don’t give numbers, but it’s on the edge of moderate to normal. I think though that it might go up as I’m starting to get a whiff of smoke in the air. What wind we have is from N/NE, so it can bring down Quebec smoke.

Been a very quiet weekend around here. No fireworks, which is pretty much the norm for my neighborhood. Neighbors are planning to shoot some over the lake tonight though. Will drive Piper crazy for awhile. The big fireworks over Otsego Lake got cancelled last night. Barge with the platform that they use to shoot the fireworks from, had a major failure, when the platform collapsed and the fireworks wound up going for a swim. But nobody was hurt, just wet. I’m sure there were a lot of disappointed people. But a lot of people who live on the lake and have second homes, also do fireworks, so they probably made up for it. Supposedly it will be rescheduled for later.

Not much going on here today. I’m going out to wash my front porch in prep for painting where needed tomorrow, giving Molly her ey drops and then going over to cousin’s for a bit.

Afternoon Beth and All. Cloudy, 85°, 73°humidity, dew point 76°poor aq. Looked for a safe day to take trash to dumpster, nothing. Might as well gear up and go today. House bound because of weather and beach traffic so doing a couple loads of laundry and any other piddling stuff I find. Radar showered heavy storms headed my way earlier and now moving north. Geezzz. Be safe

It's 95° here at 10:15. We topped at 111° here yesterday and supposed to be just below that today. Never even opened door to house yesterday- keeping cool in and heat out!
Had another BP spike last night , but this time I had the extra RX to treat without going to ER. Just trying to be patient waiting for tests to figure this out.
Ava, what a nice new home you have! Many of us no longer RV, and, though I still have my LTV, I haven't been anywhere in a while. We love hearing from all our friends here.
I did not sleep well last night,,so will maybe pop in later to give more individual comments. Have a good rest of sunday.

Hi ladies! I neglected to post yesterday. I did say Rabbits, so knew it was the first day of the month.

Beth, it warms up quickly here as well. I try to go outside around 6:00 to water the plants in our landscaped area and our large potted plants. O'Sharon, I hope your a/c issue is an easy fix. Velda, I hope you get your bp spiking under control. Sue, hopefully you and others will start being able to breathe clean air. Shirl, I don't miss the Ocean City traffic.

Despite the temperatures being in the mid 90's most afternoons, we're still able to spend several hours in our pergola, enjoying the summer weather. Our church had a potluck today to celebrate the 4th and we took 72 devilled eggs. On the 4th, the resort we live in will have a potluck as well. We're going to take macaroni salad for that.

I guess it is good evening now. I tried to get on earlier and the site was down. Got a message asking me about it and I just said "Beth will tweak it" LOL I did not get much done today but I didnt have too much planned anyway, was going to shampoo but got interrupted.
There was a county sheriff at my door wanting to know if my cameras alerted to anything last night. I told him about 3am a car went by, but I live in a cul=de-sac and everyone has to turn around here so there is that. Apparently the next door neighbors were gone overnight and someone broke into their house thru their back bedroom window. They said they trashed the bedrooms and office and stole some jewelry. I didnt get the whole story yet as Mary was very upset. There were 3 police here and I swear they were all 12 years old. LOL
I left my windows open last night because it was so hot I wanted it to cool down overnight. Wont be doing that tonite. Will just kick the AC on for a bit to cool it down in the morning and will then open my doors and windows. I have a security screen door on the front that I keep locked at all times and at night deadbolt the big door and back door. It would help if I had a guard dog but that is not Emma. When she hears a parcel being dropped off she runs to the door and looks at me LOL very darn helpful.
So spent the morning reconfiguring and charging my Video doorbell, thinking my tech jobs were over. Oh heck no, I had to spend some time online buying a couple more cameras LOL I at least want to see any threats coming my way. Another thought I had was I usually dont take my phone in the bedroom at night but I am thinking maybe I should start doing that. I can tell Alexa to call 911 as I do have one of her in my bedroom. But lots to think about today. I am not paranoid but need to be prudent about safety. Nobody can see my back deck so that makes it more vulnerable to breakins so will just close and lock my windows . No more fresh air for me at night until morning.

Goodness, Karen! That's a little uncomfortable and too close to home. I got dowels for my sliding windows, but I haven't left them open yet at night. Sharon, I remember those days of getting off the road early due to the heat! Beth, I was on a different schedule when I got back from Kansas, but then it was back to the old one once I moved. There are so many things I need the cool morning to do so maybe I'll give it a whirl knowing I can nap later (which I often do anyway). Shirl, hope you'll share when you decide on headphones. I'm thinking of dragging some out that require the cord. Velda, glad you didn't have to go to ER.

I was working on a quilt square and had to watch a video to remember how to get seams to line up! Of course, I was doing it wrong! :) Decided I needed to get my act together and plan rides/trips. I've always wanted to do the Hell's Canyon boat tour Sandi did a few years ago plus can throw in the Palouse Falls Cheryl just visited. Can also go through Pullman, home of Washington State University. Thinking mid-month.

BJ made a phone call. That person texted me. Within 5 minutes everything was good again. I had the renewal set to automatically happen but, the credit card on file had a new expiration date, etc. And their email to me went to an email account I check almost never anymore. Bad me. But that was a wake up call lol. When everyone sent money, I went in and made sure it was dry to auto renew, but didn't check that the card was good. Duh.

I need to walk Ty. It's still 96 degrees, but the sun is getting low enough in the sky he can now walk on the pavement. So off we will go.

Good evening gals!

Karen, maybe you should install a few motion sensor lights around your house. I was gonna put one on my house but my neighbor has one on her deck that is pointed right at my house so if anyone (or cats, raccoons, etc,) walk anywhere near my car or deck/shed, those lights come on. You can get solar lights if you have enough sun in those areas during the day.

I discovered that my cat door isn't as sturdy as I thought it would be. It is too bendy when not in the door just right. So I am going to pick up some dowell rods to put thru the hole in the pool noodles to stabilize it some more.

I am also using my pedal machine now to strengthen my knees. I did 1000 "cycles" today with no problem while watching golf. I have also been trying to figure out how to get away from buying cases of Propel because #1, it is expensive, and #2, it will be a a PITA once I start RVing, to find, buy and store all that water and then have all the empty bottles to deal with. I haul out about 24 empty bottles every week to our recycle bin. There is a group of volunteers here who turn those bottles in for recycling and use the money for our activities fund in the park. I figure I have contributed half of all that money with my bottles!  Anyways, I got some Propel powder which I have tried before and found it too sweet. But I am experimenting to find just the right amount of powder to water to make it taste just right. I got it pretty close today. Will tweak it a little more tomorrow. If I can get it just right, that will save me a lot of money and space!

I am trying to figure out a way to keep the heat from coming thru my living room windows. The window insulator kit won't work because the walls are textured and the double-sided tape won't stick to that. I checked out thermal curtains but I would need quite a few for all the windows (floor to ceiling) and it would be too costly. Then I thought about something I read about awhile ago for RV's...bubble wrap! I googled it, and if I used the stuff with the larger bubbles, it is easy to apply and works really good to keep the heat from coming thru the glass. I put my hand on the window today and it was super hot!! :o Bubble wrap is really cheap so it is worth a try! Ordered a roll from Amazon.

I made a list for house cleaning/organizing. One room per day, so each day I will have only one room to clean which won't take very long. Did the bathroom today and only took 20 minutes. Wanted to do laundry too but didn't get further than putting the dirty clothes in two baskets and put them by the door. Will do them in the morning before it gets too hot. Have my bedroom on the list for tomorrow. I need to move the mattress and get under the bed to clean. Lots of fur-bunnies under there!!

I need to call my former client who works for ReMax this week to set up a time to meet about listing the house. Want to ask him what all he plans to do for marketing this place. Once I have that figured out, I will feel more motivated to get really busy on getting this place ready. I have several small projects I need to do around here, besides more down-sizing and organizing. 4 weeks will go fast!! Hard to believe it is already July!!! Back in Minnesota, we considered 4th of July as the half-way point of the summer there. 10 weeks before and 10 weeks after. I think August is a good time to list this place, when snowbirds will be wanting to start looking for a place to buy for the winter season which starts in October.

Made some Hamburger Helper for dinner. I doctored it up just a bit with some "Better Than Boullion" beef gravy paste. It is really good! Lots of rich flavor! I have the chicken flavor too but haven't used it yet. They have quite a few different flavors. I don't care for gravy in the packets or jars because they are too spicy or just don't taste like real gravy. This stuff does.

"Only" got to 112* today, but still saying at least 116* for tomorrow. We'll see. I like when they are wrong in the right direction!

Sophie has been getting into trouble lately! :o She likes to chew on paper! I know, not a big deal but I keep some papers by my bed that I don't want shredded. So anyways, when she starts chewing on some, I say a gentle "no no". She looks at me wide-eyed and runs off the bed, like she things I am gonna hit her! I feel bad because she overreacts. Romeow also likes to chew on paper. Never had a cat do that before, now I have two! I need to find something to put the papers in that they can't get to. I worry that they will start chewing on my books.

Also a funny thing with them, when I toss a treat to each cat across the floor, Romeow will scarf his down but Sophie will bat hers around the floor for awhile until Romeow intervenes and eats it!

My foot is a little more black and blue and puffy but not too bad, At least it doesn't hurt. I actually dropped my phone on my left knee cap today and that really hurt! That knee already has enough problems! No damage done but sure hurt when it happened!

I have accomplished quite a bit today! Have a good night and stay cool and safe!

Thanks Anita for reminding me of the Hell’s Canyon boat ride I took a few years back. Haven’t thought about it in a long time. You should definitely do it. It was such great fun and very interesting and informative. I highly recommend it to all.

Beth, you know how we panic when we can't get on the forum.

I didn't do much today. Yesterday I cooked the package of stew meat in the slow cooker with mushrooms and a package of gravy mix and it turned out really good. I had leftovers for today so didn't have to cook.

Karen, that's unnerving to have a break-in next door. My neighbor has security cameras but all I have are a couple of blink cameras mostly to watch the cats. It's a shame we have to live worried about crime. About the only time I am out at night is going to one of the meetup meals and I won't go to one of those in the downtown area at night. You couldn't pay me to go to Walmart at night.

Sharon, my dad was in the Air Force until I was a senior in high school. I was trying to remember the times we had to move and I can't remember the packing up part or the trip. The only time I really remember is the last one because I had to get my horse moved. I'm sure I wasn't worried about anything but my horse. I don't know how my mother did it. I could see me trying to move now.

The weather report says we might have rain starting tomorrow. It only got to 100 today and it's still 83.

one of the advantages to getting on late is you don't have to stress about what did I do that I can't get on the forum
our high is lower than many of you all's low lol
oh well it's just where we are on the map
didn't do a lot today as it's Sunday so to church fixed mom a piece of toast and banana when I got home she ate all the banana and half the toast and left some of the oj guess I poured too much
managed to read my scriptures then took a nap
supper was left overs mom some pork chop she didn't eat that I froze and microwaved a potato and corn I ate what was left of the Moroccan chicken had to make more rice for it but froze what was felt over... and ate some salad that was left over last night... mom still didn't eat her chop so it went into the garbage I will reheat once for the most part...
it was chat night not sure how to explain it to my sister when she gets a bee in her bonnet... this summer they are having living history people at the ranch on Mormon Row she thinks it would be good for mom to go and hear what they have to say I think that is a good idea but it's the doing it!!! she is either in pushing a walker or I'm pushing her in a wheelchair and I also have the oxygen tank to hand besides helping mom so I guess I'm whining about it but surely sister could think about it more fully I'd go and help if there was someone else with us ... I will have to do some thinking about it
you all have a great day

Sheila, not my business of course, but why not have your sister take your mom since it seems important to her, and you stay home and catch some slack? I think you deserve some time off.

I wish that would be an option.... but she lives in Vegas and is more disabled than mom  and her son is hard to be around for more than a few days... I truly wish it was an option
