Windy Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Windy Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu Dec 16, 2021 9:08 am

Good Morning. This is a hang on to your hat and everything else day. That big storm that crossed the Rockies has arrived. Moving fast though. Highest wind gusts I heard we have had so far is 59 mph, but only 43 to my south, so kinda in between here. The lakeshore is getting hit hard though. Still have power here. Ironically no branches or limbs down in my yard other than what came down in previous wet snows we have had. This weather is totally crazy. Even the meteorologists are saying the same thing. Tornadoes and such in the north h and Midwest are very rare this late in the year and especially in late December. . They were getting warnings in areas that still had snow in MN and WI last night  And now rain is heading to the areas destroyed by the tornadoes. O’Sharon, don’t know if this is headed your way or not, but if it is, hang on to your hat and anything else.

Barbie, I concur about your getting out too. That place is doomed for failure. Since they approved having pot shops in Michigan now, as long as the community they are in have approved it, they are popping up like mushrooms in Gaylord. They have to be appro City of Gaylord and state licensed. The City is going to allow 22 businesses in. They’ve been buying up vacant restaurants and businesses like crazy. The population of the. City is just a bit over 3600 and the county as a whole around 25,000. A lot of us are giving them a year and most will be gone. Their business has to depend on what locals, tourists and those who come here to shop from outlaying areas. No way are 22 going to last. There are a couple small production facilities coming in, but they will be over in the industrial park. The rest of the county townships, including mine, said no to allowing them.

Beth, I like your new do. Glad to see that CA is getting some rain and snow. Ski resorts here are holding on to their man made snow and are waiting for the temps to drop later today, so they can fire up the snow guns and start making more in order to be ready for the Christmas holiday season. They say that man made snow is denser so it doesn’t melt as fast as natural snow. Tina, good luck at the show.

I’m killing time this morning, as have my 6 week Chiropractor appt. today. Then quick run to Walmart after. Saw a yummy recipe for pumpkin cookies, so might make them instead of a pie, for the holidays. But need some vanilla. Probably will make few butter cookies too, although I can’t find any Maraschino cherries anywhere. We’ve always put them on our butter cookies. Have some sprinkles in the cupboard though.

Good morning Sue & all that check in!

Sue, be careful when you go out for your appointment and other errands. Tina, good luck at the dog show. Is there a possibility you might head west and stop by for a visit? Barbie, I'm so glad you will be starting at Great Clips and hope things work out there. BJ, Pippa is so cute and I know she'll be just fine in a short time. Martha, your posts crack me up. Beth, I agree that all the rules should be in their handbook.

It will be in the low 80's today. I texted Carolb this morning because I was stunned that it was 60 degrees in upstate NY. We're supposed to be having above normal temperatures through Christmas Day, which is just fine with me. Brenda is starting to heal from her fall but is still sore.

Take care everyone!

Morning All, lost my original post so short and sweet. Planning a trip across the dreaded bay bridge to Annapolis Sam’s cub to buy my Christmas coconut cake. Will wait until next Tuesday, less shoppers. I slice and freeze so it lasts for months. Just catching up on odds and ends today. Be safe

I woke up this morning to the sounds of a bird pecking on the rear window of my motorhome. Of course, that is right next to my bed. I got up and opened the blinds and found the bird sitting on my spare tire cover, so yelled at him/her, but it only went away for a while. Pounding on the wall scared him off a couple of other times, but by then, of course, I was wide awake, though i read in bed for an hour or so. And just now, I opened the rear blind and noticed that he/she had pooped all over my bike cover!! So, when I go out, I will have to hose it off!!

Got ice on my bug bites right now. I was going to head to urgent care, but decided maybe it was a little better, so am going to go for a bike ride, and wear long pants and long-sleeved shirt in 84 degree weather!! But at least California got more rain yesterday, even San Diego for Lyn!!

Hope your decorations don't blow away, Sue!

Shirl, don't get me hungry for Coconut Cake. I usually get one for Easter. The one at Sam's is great. I have my aunt's butter cookie recipe and usually make some for Christmas. I never have tried to freeze the dough for the butter cookies to keep from eating them so fast.

This weather is just crazy. It's 81 here and the low last night was only 68. It will probably be 85 this afternoon. I tried to fish yesterday but the wind was too strong. I caught a few small perch but got tired of fighting the wind.

My memory is getting so bad I got Harold's old pill dispenser thing out to put my pills in. After I filled it I couldn't remember if I took my morning pill so had to count the pills. I write on the calendar when I give Pinky her pill and ear drops. I have managed to lose my old glasses.

Irmi, tell Carolb that I think of her often and us trying to make Beignets. I sure enjoyed her visit.

Judy, hope you don't have to go to an urgent care.

We had steady wind yesterday as high as 22 and gusts to 45 moh. Rain off and on. Showers this morning, but clearing. I am watching sky, planning my shopping run later. That's about as exciting as it gets here.
Beth, I too like your new do?
My MN son reported tornados in his state, but not near he and family, thankfully. Reportedly first ever December tornado in MN. His thermometer read there in MN same as mine in Northern CA, at one point it was 50°. However he said they will drop into deep freeze today or tomorrow. we will probably reach 50° again today for a hour or two.
Have a good day.

Good afternoon, got my eye appt taken care of then Lois and I went out to breakfast, was super good. The drive down was not good. Like a blizzard on the last 2 passes, BUT believe it or not everyone was driving pretty cautiously. Lasted almost to Medford but much lighter of course, just raining hard sleet. Then last night they shut down the Interstate 5 over the Siskiyous about 5pm due to blizzard conditions. There were trucks lined up for miles and miles on the freeway. They just opened it both northbound (from Redding to Oregon) and southbound into California. Looks like this storm is over for now so I should have an easy drive home tomorrow.

Karen, I'm glad you made it safely and that the worst should be over and all those waiting trucks will be long give before you start the trek back tomorrow.

Ty's a happy boy today. One of the first couples with a dog he met when we got here take their dog outside the park and let him run off leash. Today the wife and I walked the two dogs who act like dogs who have known each other forever and I knew Ty would stick around with the other dog around, so let him free also. Yep. If one turned right, the other did and vice versa. They don't run next to each other but always had the other in sight. So Ty got some good exercise and was thrilled. And when I said stay on the way back towards the park, he stopped and stayed for his leash to be reattached. I'm hoping we can do this more and that he continues being the good boy he knows how to be but sometimes doesn't want to be.

Today must be a day for the dogs. I took Sugar fishing. She has figured out how fishing works and if the bobber starts moving she wants to go after it. My sister and I would let her lick the fish we caught before we threw them back. She finally got tired of getting in the pond and laid in the shade. I would let her go out with me more often but if I don't watch her she goes to the neighbor's house.

Martha, boy did you bring back memories for me. My ex went fishing every day after we moved to Wisconsin. When the dogs and I would go with, my Moxie kissed every caught fish. We asked her to kiss the first one caught and after that she considered that her job. It's was so cute.

I need to be more careful when I post. Last night I posted then went on to play some games and normally come back to see if anyone posted after me... so did so and couldn't find....me!!! guess I posted or thought I did at same time someone else did so mine went into limbo if I look I see see that it didn't post and can then submit... I didn't look and when I realized what happened was too tired to come up with what I had posted... and not sure now if I can remember anything at all... I am lucky I remember what I did this morning let alone last night...
it's been so cold every time I've looked at the temp it's been like 22 degree's not happy with that ... however we did get snow and since it is so badly needed that I try not to complain might do so when I have to go out and drive in it... will need to go to the store soon... and trying to come up with the Christmas menu and shopping list for that... think we are going with Ham thought cheesy potatoes but granddaughter wants mashed potatoes so we will go with that ... and the rest is up for grabs mom wants pie for desert so will need to come up with ideas for that... I think my dd likes pecan so that might be one and I made a apple pie that the granddaughter's totally enjoyed for Thanksgiving so it might be a repeat... will decide on the rest soon...
I do know that I asked a couple of question's tech type one I got the answer to from one of my daughter's this morning the other was .... my friend asked me if I had Alexa or Siri in my car which I didn't know either could be in the car so if they can be how do you do it???
need to go see if there is pellets in the stove feels cold...
I honestly don't know how they expect you to get a dog from point A to Point C without peeing on the way..
I know that when Shadow put on the "breaks" that there was NO moving him...
yep there were pellets in the stove... but I am still cold!!!! I think that is going to be a constant reply over the next few months.. because if I even make it to Q it will be when it's cold there...not giving up on it but not overly hopeful either... I am pretty sure that when mom gets home that she isn't going to be overly eager to return to my brother's house... I do know that I want to go to see my granddaughter's musical in early Feb. not my favorite time to drive maybe I ought to check out the bus might be a good idea... or see if anyone else is going down the problem is that I might want to stay longer than they could but it is a few off ...
spent the last two days getting the room that I am staying in somewhat organized so I can walk through without stepping on or over bags... feels better... even got a electric tooth brush plugged in bought it quite awhile back but didn't even open it up till today....
I am with other's Barbie probably best to be saying good-bye to the current job...
oh my youngest her last day is suppose to be on Monday... she told me today that her boss wants to talk to her that they don't want her to leave... I don't know if they will succeed or not... I think that working from home (which she has done for years even before the pandemic) would be really head when you have a toddler also at home when her first born was that age she went to the day care... R was born during the pandemic and didn't have that option... there was a big storm in SLC they had some tree branches down one almost hit one of the cars came inches from it one has pulled a power line down really low how they have electricity one doesn't know... neighbors next door don't ... but they found out that their power box isn't up to code... they have been in this house only 8 years I think that they got took... it was a can't think of the term but where they buy a house fix it up to sell??? several things that have had to be redone because they were shoddily done... I can't imagine how a the home inspector didn't catch the power box wasn't up to code unless he was a friend or just simply didn't do his job...
Irmi when you make it to SLC make sure you go to Temple Squire to plan on going to the Tabernacle when they have a recital going on and Sunday you can be there when the Spoken Word is being broadcast... or used to be able to do so but with the virus not sure what is open and what isn't any more... it will be interesting to see what Temple Square will look like when all the changes are finished...
Judy have you ever tried to use a mosquito net? might help and give you more area to see around with...
found out that we now have a REI here... knew that there was a place going in but hadn't noticed that it had done so and didn't know what was going in...
you all have a great day and I will try to remember to see if this posted

Sheila, it's generally called a "flip", as in "flipping a house".

I do have a couple of head nets but thinking of getting a whole jacket. Went out today for bike ride with long pants and turtleneck shirt on. Was 84 degrees and sunny a d I was really sweating but I don’t think
I got any new bites. Three of four on my arm are still swollen but one is better. All are a little less itchy and painful but ice pack really helps.

Going out tomorrow to get last gift—teddy bear for aunt with dementia. Don’t know what else to get her so going to build a bear to get one in a dress or something. Will get musical thing inside also.
