Calm Sunny Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Calm Sunny Sunday

Postby Colliemom » Sun Oct 24, 2021 9:07 am

Good Morning from the chilly 45th. Sunny at the moment, but not sure how long it will last. Temp is 42. Had some rain during the night and more coming tonight through tomorrow. Looks like a mixed bag week of weather coming up, so will finish up things outside as this time of year anything goes weather wise.

Worked in the garage yesterday, traced and cut one wood pattern and a second one traced. Will be working in that in a while as temps warm up. Once they are cut out, can work on them in the house. Easier to cut them out in the garage then haul 2 4x4 sheets of plywood, saw horses etc., down in the basement. There was a day I could handle a 4x8 sheet of plywood. Now I’m lucky I can do a 4x4.

From what I am seeing on the Weather Channel, looks like you gals on the west coast are getting some much needed rain. Hope it pans out.

Hey Shirl, if you want something different to do on the IPad, try a couple games. One I do is FreeCell and the other is WordScapes. That one is definitely guaranteed to keep your brain thinking. It’s like a crossword puzzle but the letters are in a circle and you have to make up words from those letters to fill in the puzzle. It can be really challenging. I really enjoy it.

Guess I should get a move on here. Want to get that second cut out done. Might put the saw horses in the sun in front of the garage door. We shall see. Have a great day all and keep safe.

Good Morning. Yup we have rain, I am loving it. 53 out so not really cold with a high of 58 today so not much difference. I was pretty lazy yesterday so need to get my butt in gear today or at least this morning. Think I will go to Costco later and stock up on a couple of things. Not a major trip for sure so might be able to get out of there under $100.

Was talking to Laura last night and she said there was a special on one of the Portland stations about our Almeda fire. I thought I had an app that I could watch it on but no such luck. So she sent me a link to it and I watched it this morning. Devastating for sure, but my life is fine now, I am grateful for how far I have come and have made my new place a "home" once again. I still miss my mountains as I had a beautiful view of the snow capped mountains and Mt Ashland, now I have no view of much. Small price to pay for being safe and getting out with Emma in 5 minutes.

Took some hamburger out to make meatballs tomorrow in the Air fryer, and will have a steak and veggies tonight for dinner. Going to vacuum and dust again this morning, I dont know how I get so dusty. I get the hair in the vacuum from Emma so that I understand.

Sheila sounds like your Mom did well yesterday eating so that is a plus. Hope you can figure out a plan that doesnt involve just you when your Mom is discharged. Sue is hard at work creating things. I dont have a creative bone in my body so I am envious of people that do at times. Oh well we are all destined for different things, that is what makes us unique.

Finishing up my second cup of coffee then will have some breakfast and start my day.

Morning All, woke up to 54°and light rain. Had the last two apple pancakes from the freezer with two eggs so a nice breakfast. Have hum and hauled over recipe for healthy chicken pot pie. Woke up this morning and thought the heck with it, I’m buying a Marie Calendar pie from supermarket. Lol It has not been a pleasant weekend. The neighbor I just met said she was going away for the weekend and someone in the building would take care of Mojo. I have never heard him before but he barked 24/7 Friday and now just whimpers. It’s very upsetting because he sounds so pitiful. She is due back tomorrow and hope he will be happy again. Have an outside folding recliner to give to #2 granddaughter and couple bags of old potting soil to dump in daughters horrible sandy flower bed. Just need to mask up, get luggage cart from lobby, load it, wheel it through two doors to car, unload, wheel cart back through two doors and replace in lobby. That made me tired, maybe another day. :) Martha, looks like you are having a rainy day too. Beth, I’m counting the days too. Sheila, one day at a time. Sue, thanks for the suggestions. Be safe

Sue, as of right now we are getting pounded. It is raining harder outside than I have seen it rain for many years, winds are blowing so hard the trees round about appear to be writhing (most trees still have their leaves, the leaves haven't even changed color as yet); no street flooding currently (at least on my block), but that may come.

Temps currently only about 53, so I'm guessing the Sierras are probably getting pounded with snow (lots colder in the mountains than it is here in the Central Valley where I live).

I'll take it. We need a winter's worth of storms like this one; hopefully this is only the first of many.

Good to see that the rains have come a bit early this year.

I was just about to ask the west coast ladies about how the rain was going. Very glad to see you have substantial rain, but worried about flooding. Keep us updated, Anne. Hope this also puts a bit of water in your reservoirs, but does not cause a lot of earthflows in the burned areas!

I got four more mosquito bites yesterday. As some of you know, mosquito bites on me can stay small or get really big and infected--like the size of quarters or half-dollars. The more I get, the more my crazy immune system attacks them and makes them go nuts. So far, the most recent ones are only a little bigger than the older ones I got last week. Trying really hard not to get more new ones.

It's 56° here and rain off and on all night. 1.3 inches since midnight. No snow in Sierras until later in the day and tonight, making mountain roads dangerous mess by tomorrow morning. Local meteorologists are predicting possibly resetting the historic record for rain in a 24 hour period. I'll believe that when I see it as 86 and 95 had historic rains! Winds blowing some, but nothing terrible. Nice day to stay in and work on my craft room or do some card making. A friend, who lives about 7 miles west had a big oak branch come down but only their fence was hit. May be some street flooding in prone areas, but not here as I live at top of the hill. Since moving here, I have said, if we were to get flooding here, at my location, then tne rest of the area needs an Ark! There is concern in areas with burn scars for debris flow amd rock slides.
Have a good day everyone! Sue, happy crafting!

Ok, change of plans. Surfing and read “Eat this not that” Checked Marie Callender chicken pie, contains enough sodium and fat to last a person for a year. Took chicken out of freezer for slow cook chicken pot pie for tomorrow. Didn’t have any plans for tomorrow. :x

Good Morning, finally have something to write about. I went to a pumpkin patch yesterday! Had a very good time. Although it was mostly games for the kids and junk food for all. The 3 greats with us looked like they were having fun . They have been before and knew which activities they wanted to do. It was fun watching them.
No rain down at this end of the state.

Hi ladies!

I tried to get here yesterday, but our internet service has been extremely slow for the past week.

Cheryl, it's good to see you here. I can relate to the things you're going through. Sheila, lots of good thoughts headed your way. Karen, I know the link of the fire you watched had to be devastating. I'm so proud of you for moving forward the way you did. Shirl, I have read the numbers on the sides of the Marie Callender frozen meals and the carbs are out of sight, so I make most things from scratch. Glad you gals on the west coast are finally getting rain. Judy, keep an eye on those mosquito bites. Unlike Sue, I am not a crafty person but envy those who are. Lyn, you just posted and it's always good seeing you here! The only thing I do halfway decent is play the organ and half the congregation ran up to me after church this morning on something new I did and I was elated everyone was so happy with it. We have rain moving in late this afternoon into tonight, but we need it.

Looks like Donner Summit on Interstate 80 (7222 feet in elevation) has received a light dusting of snow already, probably over the last couple of hours or so (this would be snow as of about 1:30 p.m. this camera is live, so conditions - and the camera view - will change).

http://newtoreno.com/ca-i80-webcams-donner-summit.htm

The prediction for tonight for Donner Summit is "Blizzard". :o This is so very not good.

For those who don't know, Interstate 80 is a major east/west artery through the Sierra for much of northern California. Lots of commerce - and tourists - travel Interstate 80 pretty much 24/7.

A blizzard near Donner Summit (so named because of the "Donner Party", a wagon train that was stranded in the area by snow, spending the winter of 1846 - 1847 trapped in the Sierra) is always a worry.

Of the 87 original members of the Donner Party, only 48 survived - many by resorting to cannibalism.

The Sierra can be an extremely unforgiving and dangerous place to be during blizzard conditions.

I hope that people heading up to the Sierra over the next few days give very serious thought to postponing their plans, and that the interstate gets closed (as sometimes happens!) before conditions get really bad.

I can't imagine anyone attempting to drive the Donner summit or any other summit in northern California this weekend!!

I checked with my son in Napa, and he says all is well except that the cats are not liking the rain or wet pavement in the back yard. Both younger ones have gone out and done quick u-turns a couple of times. California cats are spoiled!! Napa has had about 3" today. Glad they are a bit higher than Napa River that goes through town.

My Sunday has been pretty calm. I got my mowing done yesterday in case it rained but doesn't look like we will get any. Sugar woke me up about 4:00 because it was thundering and she wanted out. It might have sprinkled but that's about all. I'm glad California is getting rain. Hope there isn't flooding. We can't just have a nice rain. It's either storms or nothing.

Shirl, letting Marie Callender do the work sounds good to me but I usually won't buy any when I look at the calories. My dad would buy the cheap pot pies and I got burned out on them. I made my Crawfish and Artichoke Bisque. If I knew how many calories were in the bisque I probably wouldn't make that either. The recipe calls for a 1/2 cup of flour to thicken it but I think that's too much. I had to add about 2 cups of milk because it was too thick. I don't think the crawfish I had was the best quality. They will start crawfishing if it ever turns cold and I can buy fresh. I'm glad I don't have what you have to go through to load and unload things. I uses to park on the old carport and because I didn't want to make more trips I would come across the yard and up the hill loaded like a pack mule. Harold made me start parking on the new carport. I only have 7 steps up but I will still try to bring everything in one trip. When I'm getting ready to go camping I will make about 12,000 steps loading things.

Irmi, I envy your talent on the organ. My grandmother could play the piano and she tried to teach me once. I think I learned one song and I don't even remember it. When we were kids we loved it when grandmother would play.

My sister called and told me that a first cousin found her number and called her. We haven't seen him since were were kids. She gave him my number so guess he will call me. He said there is a family reunion in New Mexico in a couple of weeks. I would like to go if it didn't take me 3 days to get across Texas. A cousin in California has been sending me texts. He has cats too so asks me a lot of questions about cats. I am going to talk to the vet in the morning about one of the medicines I am suppose to give Mr. P. It is nasty and I have to love on him for a long time when I give it to him for him to get over it. I looked on line and it has a pill form. I think I could get a pill down him better than the liquid. He starts foaming and drooling so don't know how much of the dose he actually gets.

Eddie, picked up the larger calves this morning and brought more small calves. He opened up the gates to the pasture the ponds are in so it is 2 less gates to go through. I think I'll go fishing.

Good afternoon gals.
Got nothing done yesterday  . Just no energy this weekend. I finally got up around noon today, washed my hair and went to do a haircut on a guy in the park (the dad of a woman I did last week). I need to at least take out the trash today.

Lyn, great to hear from you! Glad you had fun at the pumpkin patch with the little ones! It is fun to see them so excited!

Last night it was really windy here. :o I had my windows open for awhile but was really starting to blow hard so closed one of them. Lots of palm fronds all over this morning. Calmer today and sunny. We have a slight chance of rain tomorrow but most of the system is gonna be north of here. I read that some parts in northern CA are already having some mud slides. With torrential rains after wildfires, that is to be expected. Out here, it is all or nothing.

Ran into my friend Debbie today and she gave me 5 giant chocolate chip cookies  from a catering event she was at yesterday. Those should last me a couple days!

Got my property tax statement and my taxes went down again! :o Last year they had dropped by $200 for the year, from the previous year, and this year they only went down $40, but at least it is changing in the right direction!! :D Every little bit helps! (I am sure my HOA won't be going down!). My electric bill should go down quite a bit next month since I have barely had the AC running at all for the past couple weeks now. That will help too! Hopefully, I can start getting ahead financially now with less expenses and more income! Yay! :D Last couple months was pretty scary!

Need to go to WM for a few things today too. I can cross off the cookies on my list now tho!

Was just getting ready for bed (10pm) and relaxing when I heard a big rig coming up the street. I was wondering why an RV would be coming in late after dark but you never know. However, it turned out to be a firetruck and stopped in front of my house (my bedroom is right next to the street!) so of course I was sure it was for my neighbor next door. I ran over there and luckily she is OK but just wasn't able to get up off a hassock she was sitting on. My other neighbor came running over too. She really needs to find a way to get herself up with a cane or walker or something. This happens a lot. I have already told her to get a Life Alert in case she isn't close to her phone but so far she hasn't. She is a stubborn Texan!

So now I am wide awake! I have the windows open since it is cooler out but zero wind, so I have a small fan in front of the window to try and pull some of the cooler air in here. It is a bit warm in here right now. I need to get relaxed again and get to sleep soon!

I've been trying to sleep but it's simply not happening tonight. I want to get up fairly early tomorrow. It's my last work day and I'd like to get it done! That means I could leave Tuesday but I don't intend to leave before Thursday. Tuesday will be lousy weather and I'll organize inside the rig. I intend to do a couple loads of laundry Wednesday. (After all the laundry the past few days and tomorrow I want a day off from it lol).

I've actually pulled some clothes and shoes that I'm going to leave here as I don't intend to need them before I get back. There's a part of me saying I shouldn't do that because we know anything can happen, so I could change my mind.
