30 Days Hath September

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

30 Days Hath September

Postby IrishIroamed » Wed Sep 30, 2020 9:44 am

Mornin' ladies~~~

How's everyone doing today? Me? Just sitting at a lovely Core of Engineer park in Arkansas watching the fish jump. Close to the locks, can't see them unless I drive or do a long walk with Punkin. Knock on wood. Seems I'm following the 70° road trip basically, but the nights are getting cool. Thank goodness for space heaters!

Watched what I could of the debate last night. What a train wreck! That's all I'm saying.

Have a good day and let's welcome October in with pumpkin spice thoughts and Jack-O- Lauren dreams.

Good Morning, I lasted 30 minutes on debate, then said the H#€€ with it, and went to bed to read. What a waste of time.
My daughter beat me, in football fantasy, by 2 points. This week I play a grandson.
Irma, exciting news from Florida!
Beth, how time fly’s. On your way again. May I vicariously travel with you?
Glass fire news is horrendous. Daughter has several friends in area.
Cheryl, I had as a patient, the man who commissioned the building of the Crown of Thorns in Eureka Springs. After I retired I went there and visited with his wife. If you get a chance, go see it.

Why did they name one of the fires Glass Fire? My sister would ask that every time she saw it on the news.

It got down to 57 last night and now it's up to 78. I think we are suppose to have nice weather for the week but they keep talking about something below Cuba. It can go away.

I didn't watch the debate. I knew more of it would be on the news and late night shows than I would want to watch.

Eureks Springs is somewhere I would like to go.

I ate something this weekend that didn't agree with me and my stomach isn't back to normal yet. I need to go get Sugar's medicine but don't know if I will make it to town or not.

Good to hear from so many today and yesterday! I'm up, showered, got my chores done and leave in under an hour for my surgery. One more step in right direction, hopefully.
Karen, it's good to hear you are ok. I'm so glad you have Emma and both of you are well. You will know when you find the right place. I don't think I could go back to a new house in your former neighborhood either.
It's always good to hear about others camping places and experiences.
Lyn,well done on tne football. I gave up watching. But I'm sure missing high school football which I had looked forward to. HS football season this year will begin in January, which feels strange. Not sure how multi port athletes who play basketball and football will do that.
Well, I better get moving here. My ride arrives in about 35 min.have a good day.
Martha fires here are usually named by the road where they began, in this case Glass Road. If two or more fires later come together, they will use the forestry name and the word Complex. Such as LNU Complex which is he Lake, Napa Unit Comlex. Bear Fire came together with others and became North West Complex fire.

Good morning, Martha.

Good morning, Velda. Looks like you beat me to it. :D

Here is a longer explanation I had already written when I saw your post. It is an interesting topic:

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-31/how-are-wildfires-named

Briefly:

Wildfires in California are usually named after a nearby feature of some sort (landforms, hills, towns, roads, etc.) - it seems, especially in the last few years, fires have more often been named for the roads nearest to the place they started. The Glass fire ignited near to Glass Road near St. Helena in Napa County.

The name of this road piques my interest a bit - not too far away there is a road that goes around Clear Lake that is named Bottle Rock Road. Along this road are a very great many deposits and outcroppings of obsidian (naturally-forming volcanic glass). Imagine a road made of broken bottle glass (thus 'Bottle Rock Road') - interestingly, there are many gravel side roads leading off from Bottle Rock Road (which is paved) that have quite a large quantity of obsidian mixed in with, and part of, the gravel!!

I have collected obsidian at many places along Bottle Rock Road. A great many places in Northern California are volcanic - Clear Lake itself was formed by an eruption of Mt. Konocti, a volcano (one of many) of the Clear Lake Volcanic Field. Ancient lava from Mt. Konocti created the obsidian that is there.

https://www.usgs.gov/volcanoes/clear-lake-volcanic-field

I have never visited the area of the Glass Fire, but I do wonder if the name of Glass Road is also related to volcanoes, or obsidian, in some way.

I'm sitting at the store waiting for old two more vendors. Both have promised to be here by noon. Hopefully sooner, as I'm all done and want to GO! I still have a few things to put away and empty tanks, etc. I almost did that yesterday, but I'm not sure I'll be able to empty anything near my sister's, so prefer to leave empty and be frugal.

Karen, I'm glad it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be for you to go back to rubble. And I agree with taking your time deciding, where especially. We're all here for you.

5 minutes was all I could make it on the debate.

Hello my friends! I don’t post often anymore, but I do enjoy keeping up with you and your adventures, the good and the bad news. It helps me direct my praise and prayers.

Today is finally a beautiful fall day in northern Florida, blue skies and 73 degrees. I’ve been outside most of the day, puttering in the yard. My butterfly garden is bursting with activity today after a rainy day yesterday. I cleaned all the bird feeders and put out fresh feed. Today I’ve seen the usual hummingbirds, cardinals, wrens, and tufted titmouse, and a new arrival, a house finch. I released another new Monarch, the 3rd of 20 in chrysalis. I bring the caterpillars in and put them in a mesh butterfly enclosure to pupate. That way most of them survive to adult stage as no predators can get to them. I also have yellow Sulphur, Gulf Fritillary, Queen, Black Swallowtail, Zebra Longwing, and Long-tailed Skippers that frequent the garden to feed and reproduce. Most of the flowers are in full bloom, so it is a popular place in full view from our dining room window. We watch them while we eat. There’s also a family of squirrels, so we put up a squirrel-feeding station on a pine tree. They are very entertaining.

I started a new volunteer job yesterday, as the thrift store where I used to volunteer has been closed since March. I am now helping with editing the Village Newspaper one day a week. The FNN (Friendly Neighbor News) comes out once a week and I deliver to my neighborhood on Thursday. Deadline for articles is Tuesday, so Tuesday afternoon is when volunteers meet to proofread and edit before publication.

The cooler weather also means my friends and I will get out for more kayaking and hikes around the area. Maybe I can lose a few of the pounds I’ve gained during this period of staying home...

Bob and I still celebrate our anniversary monthly so today is our 27th. We know we are unlikely to see that many anniversaries in years, but we aim to make the most of the ones we have.

Good afternoon. Just sitting at work. Pretty quiet today.

I also only made it thru about 10 minutes of the pathetic debate.

Martha, glad you had a fun trip. Hope your next one is fun too.

Beth, hope you can get on the road today. Safe travels!

Candiss said there is a new fire up by Redding now. Will have to watch that closely.

Tomorrow is packing and cleaning day. A trip to WM and the bank too.

Karen and/or Laura...maybe I can get together with you while I am up there. I will be in Cottage Grove thru next Saturday. Maybe meet for lunch somewhere on day.

Have a great day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I could leave today but right now think I'll leave early on the morning and go to what would be my 2nd stop if leaving so late today. I really like to avoid driving in the dark unless absolutely necessary.

Good to see you here Liz, and Happy Anniversary.. I love your monthly celebrations!

Barbie, stay safe and enjoy this trip helping your friend.

Barbie I would love to see you again. I am leaving Saturday for Laura's house and she and I will come down to meet you for lunch for sure. She is taking the week off so we certainly should be able to make it happen.

Beth drive safe in your travels. I know you do but just giving you my good wishes for a good trip. Liz I love the way you two celebrate. I know what you mean about the years we may or may not have left. Make the most of them. I always say I have more years behind me than ahead of me LOL Wishing Velda the best on her eye surgery today.

it was a good news bad news day  visit to the eye dr.. good news was that she was able to fix my old glasses the newer of the two just needs to be trashed... after my exam which I was impressed with not have had that in depth one probably ever but the news was that I have cataracts and evidently need to be taken care of sooner rather than later... :o guess part of the problem is if I am looking at the sun it can make it so that my eyes can't see and pretty much legally shouldn't be driving at that moment so am going to have to plan on when to drive avoid the direct sun rather it be east or west...he asked if I wanted to delay my trip but that would involve possibility of being up here in freezing cold and or snow... my youngest is all for me leaving at the beginning of the month but my mom's b'day is the 10th of Oct. so would like to be here for that occasion... she will be 94 this birthday... I guess what I can do is go to the consultation and then decide if I have it done this fall or wait till I am back up here next spring/summer
came up without my jacket been fairly warm here today ... hope Velda's surgery went well.
Karen are you thinking of moving out of Oregon or just moving to another part of it?
going over to mom's tomorrow she sounded out of breath so asked her why she had taken a basket of clothes downstairs to the laundry really shouldn't be going down the stairs but when you are alone you do sometimes things that you shouldn't do.. I personally hate the stairs.... I wish that they would figure out away to put an apartment size washer and dryer in the bathroom I'd say stack them but not sure she could reach the dryer... I keep getting told that it would take lots of plumbing to redo it...that I am sure of but....
need to go home guess it's see food tonight see what I can see to eat....
the other day I bought a canister to put stuff like raisins ect in as I was tired of them falling out on top of me thought I would get the same thing for the nuts but couldn't find it hopefully what I did get will work guess we will see
did anyone get to see the Northern Lights? one of the things I read was that it might not be the colors that you expect but what might look like the light pollution of a city where there is no city... if that is true that I believe I saw last night but hard to say with sun glasses on...
you all have a good day hopefully I will remember RABBITS this time certainly need it
Beth and Barbie safe traveling

Sheila, thanks for the reminder for Rabbits! It is almost midnight here. I need good luck for my trip!

We have had a "swarm" of earthquakes about 50 miles south of me by the Salton Sea this evening. Over a hundred so far in the past 6 hours that were over 2.0. The strongest one being 4.9. I haven't felt any of them but Candiss felt several of them. They are still going on so I might still feel something tonight but they are saying there shouldn't be any over 5.2 if that.

We are still planning to head out Saturday morning but will play it by ear along the way. No hurry so we will stop if/when we need to depending on the situation and how we feel.

Karen and Laura, it will be fun to meet up with you! Yay! A mini GTG! :D

I think I got my dental insurance figured out. I was transferred to another dental company back in February but never notified of it so when I got my teeth examined a few months ago I didn't know my old insurance was no longer valid until my dentist told me. I have been on this other insurance since then but didn't know it. Got on the phone today and got that straightened out so they are sending me the info and my insurance card for the new insurance and my crowns will be covered 50%, so that is good. Will make an appointment when I get back. Hopefully by then I will have my medical insurance figured out too. I am on Medi-Cal in Riverside County now and trying to get with Kaiser which I had before in Vista and was very impressed by them. It will be totally free this time tho with no deductible or co-pays. Nice!

Time for bed after I say rabbits in a few minutes! I have a lot to do tomorrow!

Hi Barbie: I’ve had Kaiser for my entire adult life. I’m extremely happy with my coverage and the the care they provide. If you decide to go with them, I hope your experience will be as excellent as mine has been.
