Kinda Busy Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Kinda Busy Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu Jun 06, 2013 7:14 am

Good Morning Ladies,

Honestly, some days it's hard to think up a good titie to start the MC thread with. Weather seems to be our favorite I've noticed.
Kind of cloudy here, sun is trying to work through, but forecast calls for isolated showers. Rest of week looks good.

Just lazing around this morning, but will get moving in a bit. Letting the morning chll get gone outside. We can't seem to get rid of the cool weather this spring. Although highs near 70 are fine by me. I've got things in they yard under control, so nothing much to really do out there right now. Am going to wash out and set up my fountain system today. Have a fake rock two stage one that I put out by my deck. Nice to hear the running water and the birds like it too.

Mostly puttery stuff on the agenda today. Going to clean up the rental car, not that it's dirty other than needing a bath a bit, but want to have it look like it was when I picked it up. Hoping to get mine back tomorrow. Then plan to work on sanding and repainting a small folding table my dad built years ago, to sit out on my front porch. Also will be meeting a contractor at a neighbors who needs to measure their garage doors for replacement. They live downstate and hired me to caretake the place last year. Also want to get my new picnic table plans ready and see how many boards I need to get to build it. I've been wanting a wood picnic table for my deck and am going to build my own. So I will keep busy today.

Carolb, hope you enjoy your trip to AK. Ava, it's so nice of you to spend some time with your friend and help her out. I'm sure she really appreciates it. Sarah, sorry to hear that you still have some storm damage to clean up. I know how that goes, been there done that, especially after the big December snow storm that did so much damage in this area. CArol, that TVA park you are in sounds like so much fun to be able to watch the river and the going on's. Well, when you can anyway. What park is it and where is it located? Judy, love your new bike and I know you do too. You are enjoying your time with your friend too I know and will be heading for Port Crescent pretty soon. Hopefully the weather is a bit warmer down there than it is up here. I'm glad we were able to GTG while you were up here. Maybe next year if you come north again, I will be able to join you with my own rig.

Haven't heard anything from the dealer yet. So just biding time. Hopefully it will be here before I head north for 10 days at the end of this month. Not planning on taking it anyway, as the campgrounds are full for the 4th, so am staying at my usual place in Michigamme.

Well, guess I should get moving around here. Have a nice day all and if you are on the road, safe travels.

Thursday sleeping in

Postby carolb » Thu Jun 06, 2013 7:16 am

Good morning all! :D

Yep, I slept in & looks like many of you are doing the same--or you're already out & about. Yahoo, Carold! An Alaska trip! Dang, makes me want to get on the road

The rain stalled out, so I have some time this morning to putter in the yard. May even sneak in some mowing. Martha, you're a hoot! Get back to town & get your doggie some food! That's on my to-do list, plus getting stuff to make bro's bday cake--German Choc, so it'll be a box mix

I'm so excited about Liz's visit, that I'm inspired to finally get my spring cleaning done. Now I realize how overwhelmed I've been with the garden--I've had no energy to tackle the house

Y'all have a great day--happy & safe travels! 8-)

Sue posted first, so I will add to this one.

Sue - what are the temp ranges right now and how much warmer do you expect it to get over the next couple of weeks? It's sounding like I may need to rethink my wardrobe. Last year I didn't use any jackets that I packed and I think I only wore long pants once. So I wasn't planning on packing as much of that stuff and adding more shorts.

And I'm rethinking my first weekend up there and may head north earlier than I thought. Is there some place near by that would be a good place for me to stay so that we could GTG. I have to be in TC by about 3:30 on the 24th to pick my mom up at the airport. One friend I was going to visit in Detroit will be in TX and the other one's sister is very ill and of course, they don't know what's going to happen with that this far out. <sigh> I like to at least have loose plans and right now I don't even have that - LOL.

Looks like FL is going to be the lucky recipient of the first tropical system of the season - then on up the east coast. Hope those in Andrea's path get no more than a good soaking without overdoing even that.

HEY, I don't get to sleep in. My dog tries to get me up anywhere from 4:30 AM to 5:30 AM. I, however, do not get out of bed until at least 5:30. I'm even out walking the streets before the homeless are up!!!

Am I the only one on MC that lives on the west coast?

I've been up but busy grooming Toby and just getting the day going. The RV repair place called & Elise is ready. Hopefully the battery mystery is solved and I turned out to be the cause   Seems like when I turned the fridge off I turned the dial just a little too far and it switched to DC power. ACK Here I was thinking wow this fridge sure stays cool a long time after I turn it off. The ice had melted and it wasn't cold but it was cool to the touch. Oh well I think I just won't look at what it cost to fix, they are going to disconnect the wire that lets you use DC so it won't happen again I doubt I would ever intentionally turn it on DC anyway.
DH is probably ready to go so I better get my ready on! Have a great day everyone.

Whew - glad you discovered the IBM problem...we all have learned, I'm sure, a pricey RV lesson at some point.
Now you don't have to worry about it anymore.

Good morning all. Lyn, there are several members on the left coast, however hit or miss in the morning coffee thread. I too have a dog that has very early needs. It can be irritating, but he is old and I doubt any men in there 70s could go all night with a potty call  CarolB, you're just the every ready bunny! I bet you're excited to see Liz :P Carold is headed for AK. I can't wait till we can do that trip as well. Redytotry has her rig back from the shop with batteries that are good!? Sue has more time to spend with Tessa. It just tears me up thinking about the Rainbow bridge.

Today is cleaning day here just like every Thursday. So back to the vacuuming, washing, dusting, floors, change sheets, etc.

Looks like we'll be heading to Red Bay, AL to have some work done on RED. Steering is a problem and we want to install a stabilizer. However, Freightliner did not install the necessary brackets during production. They said our unit was one of the very early production of this new 33aa model. However, they are routinely installing the brackets on subsequent units :x Have heard horror stories of having dealers install the brackets and then the stabilizers....apparently installing incorrectly will mess up the air break system and the hydraulic system.

Also the dealer can't figure out how to install the fireplace. Again, our unit is an early production and no one at Red Bay has installed one after the production line. This just proves that there are problems whether you spend $ or $$$$$, whether it is new or used. Just like a house, car or anything mechanical, stuff happens.

Everyone have a great day and stay safe. Aloha y'all

Good Morning !! Rainy here, but we got our walk in. Think the heavy stuff will be here in the afternoon. Worked at getting some order in here, let things go yesterday, not a good idea to do many days :o

BJ, glad you know what the problem is, Whew big relief. Mitch, is sure right our most valuable lessons seem to be learned the hard way, ask me sometime when you have loads of time on your hands,"how I know"??

Lyn, no there are quite a few members on the west coast. They will all chime in here soon. Check our member map out, that might help. Although some might not be listed as its each members choice to be there. Contact Mitch if you aren't on there and would like to be.

Not much on the agenda today, just whatever Maggie and I, can get into without getting very wet

Have a nice day all, above all stay safe whatever you do, Soos, so glad to hear you're enjoying your trip, glad you can keep swimming along the way too !!

good morning ladies, ya'll are sure busy, gtgs, new batteries, fireplaces, traveling. Today, we're going to have a kick back
day. For her anyway, but I'll do a little bit of the yard a little bit at a time. She loves to garden and she's been missing that.
Her roses are full of buds. Hope one blooms soon.
Out to check the oil and such on my car, ya'll have a good day and be safe. Hope no one is in any bad weather situations.

BJ, glad you finally found out your problem. My refrigerator has buttons so I know what it's on. I put mine on DC when I'm on the road but if it cools any it's hard to tell. I think some blue ice does better. I keep some blue ice frozen in the freezer and put it in the refrigerator when I leave. I put drinks in an ice chest and try not to open the refrigerator door and it will stay cold. We find out some of these thing by trial and error. Mostly error. I was mad because my propane wouldn't work after my motorhome had been in the shop. I thought it was something they did. Found out that if the detector gets turned off it turns off the propane. One more thing to remember.

I didn't go get the dog food yesterday. Don't worry, he's not out. I don't know why that's my job anyway. My DH goes to town almost every day. The best was when I picked up a bag and told him it was in the van when he needed it. The next week he goes and gets a bag. We pick it up at the vet's, looks like they could have mentioned that I had just picked up a bag.

Soos got out of Florida just in time. Hurricane season just started Saturday and we already have a tropical storm. We were in the middle of one last summer when we went to pick up my grandson. Not as bad as a hurricane but no fun with all the rain and flooding. The weather channel is reporting tornado damage.

Consumer Reports says never to buy the first version of anything. With RV's that would be hard since they seem to change everything around every year. My very first motorhome was a new model and full of problems. That might be a good reason to buy used. Someone else has had to deal with all the new problems and hopefully have all the bugs worked out. I found out when I was having some brake work done that there is more than one type of van chaise of the Ford E-450. There is a heavier duty version than the one I have. I have a high end motorhome but they cut that corner.

It looks like our old cat isn't feeling good. I try to slip her extra food when the others are out. I gave her some tuna this morning and she didn't eat much of it. She usually loves tuna.

The weather channel says our humidity is 46%. I know that's not true. All I have to do is stand on the porch and I will be wet from sweat. Looks like we have some rain coming this afternoon.

BJ, am I understanding this correctly? Wouldn't you need the DC if you wanted to run your fridge while in transit? I know it runs on gas, but I thought that it also needed battery power to do so. Ladies?

I'm based in AK right now, the real west coast. Lots of west coasters post on MC on occasion. But not that early, in my case.

You need to have something to spark the propane so that it will cool the fridge. If the DC is disconnected, the propane can't be used -- it'll only work on AC.

BJ, you need check about adding some sort of kill switch, so that when the rig is parked/stored ALL power is shut down. As mentioned somewhere on the forum before, there are lots of things that draw on your batteries, so the fridge isn't the only culprit. The easiest, most sure-fire way to deal with accidentally dead batteries is to make sure they're totally disconnected when you're not using your rig.
