Monday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Mon May 23, 2011 6:21 am

Morning everyone,

Well, it's the last full week of May. Don't know where the month went, but it's going. Maybe cause it wasn't the greatest weather wise for the most part until now, that it doesn't seem like May. More like April. Was a fantastic weekend here with sunshne and highs in 70's and even mid 80's yesterday.

Another horrible tornado has stuck again. The pictures from Jopln, MO are horrific. Looks like a giant bulldozer just went through and wrecked everything and piled it all up in a heap. And to have the hospital hit was farthe worst. All the medical staff and patients who were in it probablly didn't have a lot of time to react. I hope none of our forum sisters were or are in that area. Even Minneapolis was hit with a bad storm. Hope BarbaraRose's family is okay. And here in MI, we had a line of sever storms come through last night. Funny thing though. They had issued a severe storm warning for this county and a number of areas north and west of me. When the line got here, it just kind of sailed on by, the storms sort of fell apart and nothing really happened. Dogs were nervous for maybe 10 or 15 minutes at most and back to sleep. But I did find out earlier, after I had dinner, the the area near where I am going camping this coming weekend, had hail anywhere from penny size to as much as 2 inches in diameter, yesterday afternoon. Down here it was sunny all day except for some clouds that did gather and look like maybe it was going to storm or rain later, but then broke up. Crazy weather.

Today is my day off and I am taking off. Got a load of wash going right now. Going to wash my hair, run the vacum around here to pick up all the junk the girls drag in, then we are heading for CW. Going down to buy a new patio mat and also do some shopping at the Walmart and out to lunch. Just a day to get out and enjoy. Suppposed to be some rain showers this mornng and possible thunderstorms this afternoon. Grass needs mowing bad, but too wet.

Finally finished the cupboard doors in my TT. Will be posting pics shortly, as soon as I can get the final ones. Was a bit too dark in there for good ones afer I finished them yesterday evening, not to mention I was hot and tired and time for a doggie walk. But they are done, hooray.

So, time to be off and running. For those of you who are on the road, stay safe in all these storms moving east across the country. Those of you who are stationary, enjoy your day and prayers going out to any and all who have health, family or personal issues. Know that they too shall pass.

Good morning Sue & everyone that follows!

Sue, enjoy your day off. I'm looking forward to seeing the new cupboard doors in your TT.

My sister is home from the rehab she was in and trying to settle in as best as she can. We got to eh rehab in Baltimore about 10:15 Friday morning and left there about 3:00 that afternoon, just in time to avoid the worst of the rush hour traffic on the Baltimore Beltway. She is not supposed to put any weight on her left foot for 11 more weeks, but sadly she is not obeying the doctors orders. She was supposed to have home care come in a couple times a week to help her but since her insurance doesn't pay for this, she has refused this. I will try to stop by after work to check in on her to see what I can do to help her.

Once we got back to our house Friday afternoon, we quickly made our way to the motorhome to take off for the weekend at the campground. In the rush to leave, I left my laptop home and never even got online yesterday when we got home. The weekend was nice and relaxing despite chilly weather yesterday. We have reservations to go back to the same campground for the Memorial weekend. Fortunately we can get there using back country roads to avoid the holiday traffic.

It's back to work for another week and I need to catch up after pricing inventory last week for the end of our business year.

Good morning all
Got a lot of yard clean up work done Sunday morning, plus porches swept, and driveway blown. Also the guy who cleans my gutters came got all the limbs off roof and cleaned the gutters plus couple of clogged downspouts. He also brought his saw and cut up the limbs from tornados that were too big to move. He said there is a good bit of hail damage to west (back) side of roof.
About 2 hours after he left we had a major thunderstorm come up, including 65 mph winds (not in forecast). Little green hickory nuts and acorns pounded the house like machine gun bullets and made even more noise as they hit gutters and rattled down the freshly cleaned downspouts, stopping them up again. More big limbs down including one that is now blocking the upper part of driveway. By the time I saw it, I was too tired to even try to move it. Hoping I can at least drag it sideways so I can use drive. Some days you simply cannot win; will have to call him back again. Will need to deal with insurance people too, no telling how long it will take to get an adjustor out here given everything else they are still dealing with from tornados and flooding.

We are continuing to deal with spotty power outages on almost daily basis. Fortunately most last only a few minutes to few hours. Utility crews are still hard at work restoring infrastructure damaged by the tornados. TVA announced they hope to restart one or two reactors at Browns Ferry plant next week. That will help stabilize power in Huntsville/Madison County and add a couple more feeder lines into the area.

I'm dog sitting until Wednesday evening. My dog sitter exchange friend is out of town so Lizzie is staying with us. I love watching them run together but not across my freshly planted grass area. They are already driving me a bit crazy but have settled down for the moment.

My sister is continuing to do well. Her daughters are still helping out and that seems to be a very positive influence.
Gas prices have dropped some too. A welcome, unexpected relief for all.

Stay safe out there and have a good day.

GOOD MORNING ALL!

Molly and I are back in Orlando now, trying to get stuff organized for the final trip back to the trailer. I will probably stop back by here this coming weekend to water stuff the last time (unles it rains!) and make sure I have everything secure for the summer alone.

I hope I can find the airport tonight in the dark----I hate driving in the dark now----and that the plane is on time. Mandy will call me from Plattsburgh just before she leaves, so that will let me know without going onto the website to check the flight number. It seems like an easy drive to find the airport.

I can't believe the horrible destruction of the latest tornadoes----each one seems worse than the last. Joplin is totally gone, as are many of its inhabitants. It's like a nightmare----a very bad nightmare. I am worried about my trip home for fear of running into some of those deadly storms.

Sue, I am looking forward to seeing pics of your new cupboard doors. Maybe I will tackle making some for my trailer after I see yours!

Keep a wary eye to the skies, everybody, as it's not nice out there in stormland.
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Well, now that I'm in the campground, it has decided to snow again. It's pretty but hey it's almost June. We have reservations for Memorial Day in the loop where there is still heavy snow on the road. Yesterday was beautiful, shirtsleeve weather. Oh well.

Another tornado. I hadn't heard about that. What's with this weather????

Good morning gals!

Was planning to go to China Town in LA with a friend from work but cancelled that. Got a couple of messages from people interested in the apartment, so I need to follow up on those, plus a call about a job interview at Massage Envy for an esthetician job.

My dad called too, to tell me about the tornadoes that went thru that area yesterday. He just got really heavy rain and thunderstorms, but just northeast of him, a tornado touched down and ravaged north Minneapolis pretty bad. The path was 1/4 mile wide and 4 miles long. killing one person. I also read that LaCrosse, WI got hit as well. And Joplin, MO is wiped off the map. Feel so bad for all those people! I feel fortunate to be out here in sunny SoCal right now! Just hope we don't get any earthquakes here now! (I am working on stocking up my earthquake kit, just in case!)

I better get on to my phone calls! Hopefully, good things will come of them today!

Hope you all stay safe and dry, and have fun!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Ah, Sarah, how frustrating for you trying to get the yard cleaned up. Hope the roof damage is not too bad. Is the grass up?

We had a thunderstorm pass through overnight, but it is pleasant weather again this morning. Roe and I took a nice hike to the top of Rocky Knob. Will have to do it again on a clearer day, as the beautiful view was blocked by clouds/fog in the valley. When I got back, Bandit was waiting for his "hike." So we walked among the chestnut trees while he rolled in the clover, watched the birds, and chewed some grass. Roe was jealous and barked when we got out of his sight. Now they're both sleeping.

Nan cooked breakfast for us this morning: sweet potato pancakes. She found the mix at Mabry Mill. They were very good. We added fresh blueberries...not a bad combination.

Think I'll go outside and sit in the cool breeze with a book this afternoon. We appear to be the only ones in the cg right now.

Happy Monday!

I know I'm late for morning coffee.... but I'll check in anyway :-)

It's been a great adventure getting to this place (Rockport, TX) but so much more chaotic than I expected. We wanted to try and meet up with some folks around San Antonio, but couldn't get it together in time. Would love to know how you ladies research a place before you get there. I found that even the internet was not helpful in this case. We wanted to boondock in San Antonio, but needed to find places to connect with our friends where we could park an RV..... that kind of information was just not available in the places I looked.

And have way more technical issues than we expected. Nothing horrible, just PITA factor. Refrigerator is STILL not working - $350 into it so far. Randy is on the phone with service dept right now. Oh, how I appreciate the refrigerator now that I've been without for two weeks!

I found a great little walk to the beach this morning, which is oh so good for my soul! That will be my daily routine for the rest of our stay in Rockport. We are at Ancient Oaks RV Park and are finding it very suitable to our needs. I'll write more in the Campground thread about it.

I really need to take more photos. I'll get on that!

Enjoy your days ladies. I hope to be on here more frequently, now that we are settled :-)
Choose to be happy!

In Ohio for the last few days watching my three young grandchildren, ages 20 months, 3, and 4 1/2, while my son is in the hospital an hour and a half away. Working is a lot easier!

My son had a very low blood count because of chemo for his non-Hodgekins Lymphoma and an infection somewhere, so they are keeping him until the numbers get better. He is at Cleveland Clinic, and is feeling pretty good, and anxious to get out of there. He talked his way into a private room yesterday because of infection. It is really hard for his wife with three little ones.

I go back home to Michigan tonight, but might end up back here for the weekend if they don't let him out by then. He is getting really antsy.

Good afternoon,

Back to cool/rain here.

I'm just putzing around again. Yesterday I was feeling better (had back spasms since last Tues), and this AM when I awoke and stretched, BAM! It hit again. It's let up some, but I am always aware that it can seize up at any time so I'm sure that's not helping me to relax so the muscles can calm down. What a vicious circle!

Mother Nature is sure making herself known. All over the world. Sure keeps my knees sore from all the praying.

Speaking of prayers. Please keep my neighbors Les and Shirley in yours. Les had prostate surgery on May 5th. The cancer has spread so removal of the prostate was futile. He said they put him on a hormone treatment for now and will let him know the chemo/radiation agenda soon. Then yesterday Shirley had severe pain and he took her to the ER. She is getting tests done for her pancreas and gallbladder area. This is such a sweet couple, in their mid to late 60s.

Enjoying the posts from those traveling. I so look forward to them and appreciate the time it takes to upload the pictures AND those video clips. THanks!

Kim, I love Rockport - hope you enjoy your stay there. And hope your fridge gets fixed for good.

If you aren't sure where to park in a city - even if you can't boondock there, you can find a Walmart to stop at - almost always will have room for even the biggest rigs. Just park in the back or way to the side. That's a good place to start from when on the road.

Re Walmart...I noticed that our local Walmart has a sign saying no overnight parking or camping. I think it is the township that posts the sign, not Walmart but what a bummer for someone counting on stopping over.
