Reunited at last

May 26, 2010 - 10:24 PM CDT

It was the most satisfying moment of my 44 years of bear study. When Sue and I got the cub into the little carrier kennel and I saw Sue crying, I could hardly keep from breaking down myself. And then seeing Lily and Hope’s reunion was the most beautiful expression of animal emotion I have ever seen. Hope was bawling very loudly, and Lily was doing her pleasant grunts as Hope latched onto a nipple and Lily half dragged her nearer to the white pine where they had nursed together so many times in April.

Sue is readying video she took of the reunion. It’s late, and we were up half the night last night, so we’ll fill in details tomorrow.

Thank you all so much for pulling together with us as we all went through this emotional roller coaster. The roller coaster effect continued right up to the unexpectedly wonderful end. More on that tomorrow.

While we were in the woods attempting to reunite Lily and Hope we got a call from a homeowner who had a visit from Juliet. More about that tomorrow too!

Thank you for the tremendous outpouring of support today. We can’t wait to meet many of you all at the Lilypad Picnic in a couple months.

GOOD MORNING ALL!!!

This says it all for me this morning! For the first time in over 5 days, I am bawling like a baby---- huge tears of joy!!!

Although Dr. Rogers didn't let 'nature take its course' this time, I feel that we humans are a part of nature and that to not act on our own humaneness would have been a betrayal to nature. This bear web cam has given me such an education in both bear behaviors and human behaviors, and I shall be forever grateful to have been allowed to be in on the studies.

Coffee is hot----I am dancing with joy-----My world is sweet!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

good morning
a 5 day weekend, what to do, what to do
well, I made a list of things I want to get accomplished, and hopefully I won't
get lazy and play on the computer too much. Thats been known to happen
Will do some deep cleaning on a few places inside, rearrange a few things, make
a little shade awning for the kitchen window (hope that goes well) and do some
repairs on the gate and fence. Not nearly enough to keep me busy for 5 whole
days, but I'm sure as I go along I will find other stuff to do. Of course its payday
weekend so that means getting the bills paid and doing the grocery shopping.
Soos, glad for you about the little bear cub, I haven't followed the website as it
was just too difficult to for me and my computer :? to get the webcam to work.
But I enjoyed the updates from you.
Although I'm on summer break right now and I do go back again on Tuesday, its
a different feeling cause we will start something new. Said goodbye to my kids
and the parents yesterday, it felt sad, but I told them to be nice to the new
driver and that I hoped they got a good one, they said, "but we have a good one!"
So, yea, it was sad. But, I am looking forward to making a change. Driving the
big bus for 21 years and I've finally decided I hate cleaning that thing with all those
windows and the seat legs. The little bus will be much easier to maintain and I will
have an aide to help.
Well I managed to finish off the coffee so I guess its time to get dressed and go
about my day. Ya'll have a good day and be safe.

Usually when I wake in the morning my first thought is for my first cup of tea. But this morning my first thought went to Soos's post and hopefully good news, and there it was! Looking forward to the video.

YEAH!!!!!!!!! Such exciting news on the bear front. Can you share the link soos?

Well today I between the two appts we have...I am going to attempt to get some of the trailer put back in order. We take everything out and stow it in containers in our basement when we winterize. It is too wet of an environment and everything gets musty/moldy smelling if we leave it in. Now I will admit...not sure I like this way of doing it, as it doesn't fit in our driveway (currently, the plan in the future is to alter the driveway layout, expand it back towards the house more, and make it one driveway.parking area, it is bi level thing) So it is 1/2 trek down to the storage area. Normally I load all the tubs up and do this when we have our first outing to the local resort, only that did not happen this year. We usually do that over spring break...but we went to on a different mini-vacation instead. I think next year I will go back to the plan. It also doesn't help that it has been raining...yesterday we got about an inch of rain. When it is rainy...I can't sit the stuff outside.

It will be interesting figuring out how to stow things. As I have not been able to make the modifications to the upper cabinets. We have new cabinet doors. AS the old ones split every stinking winter. We were able to repair them to workable order last year, so we held off on putting the new's one in. Now we have decided to not even install the new ones. as I think it is a manufacturer issue, since the company had to special order them last year, as they no longer used that cabinet maker. We will install the news one when we get ready to upgrade to a 5th wheel.

Basically what I am thinking of doing is running a piece of crown molding, that will give the cabinet a higher lip. Make some little curtains to hide the stuff. During transit we would put in those little tension rods, to keep things in the cabinet along with the no slip mat stuff.

Well I guess I should get off here and start getting the blankets and such together.

Such sweet news. So glad for Hope and Lily. Like you, Soos, I'm glad that humans interfered this time. I wonder if they'll ever know how they became separated. That's what surprised me so much. But probably something we'll never really know.

That's a great way to start off the rest of my day. About to pull in my slide and unhook and go dump - will now do it with a smile on my face.

YAY!!! I am so glad they reunited Mom and baby bear! I was wondering if they would intervene or not. Sometimes they won't but I think they should since we humans make life much more difficult for wild animals most of the time. The least we can do is help them out when they need it.

This morning on the way to work, I did a double turtle rescue! I saw two little mud turtles trying to cross a busy road so I pulled over, picked them both up and carried them to a nearby pond and released them happily into the water!

Another beautiful day! Going to be hotter this weekend than they predicted earlier in the week. 90 by Saturday. (Last year we only had 4 days above 90 all summer, now we will have 2+ days above 90 before June!) Hopefully, not as humid tho! Last night I had the windows and slider opened and it felt so nice to get that fresh air in there! I spent several hours on the porch reading until midnight. Watched the moon come up over the lake. So beautiful! If it weren't for the long, brutal winters here, it would be a great place to live! There are a lot of snowbirds that come from MN and spend the winters in the south. I wish I could do that but will have to full-time it in the south instead.

Spent $70 on new equipment for my new job next week (hairdryer, razor, new scissors). Later today, I go to the new salon for orientation (filling out paperwork), and then go to my other salon tonight for my last day of working there. Yay!

My paychecks have been getting much smaller lately, so I have been cutting it really close on paying rent and bills. Can't wait until I start getting some decent moola coming in!

Hope you all have a great day! What is everyone doing for the long weekend?
