Snowy Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Snowy Monday

Postby Colliemom » Mon Feb 03, 2025 9:10 am

Morning all. January thaw is over and Winter back. But it was a nice break. Three straight days of beautiful sunny Weather with temps in 30’s and one day in 40’s. Had about an inch of snow over night on Saturday into yesterday morning and probably a couple last night. But Winter weather advisory in effect. 5-7 inches expected sone areas maybe a bit more. Be a good day to stay in and putter with stuff.

Barbie, those gourd shards and the inked gourd are beautiful. You have the talent for that work, no doubt about it. Carol, that pillow is really pretty. Hope all goes well with Bill’s urgery.

Got a laugh out of Groundhog vs Chickens. Good one Evie. Chickens here are just beginning to start laying again. Same old cycle every year. Anne, egg prices are up here too.anywhere from $4.99 to $8.49. But the higher priced ones are 2-2 1/2 dozen cartons. No restrictions, but people aren’t grabbing them up either. Not that many shoppers this time of year as the snowbirds are gone and summer season is a few months away. Then we start competing with people up on vacation, heading for campgrounds, using their second homes more etc. and putting pressure on the store stocks. Egg prices are expected to go up and stay up most of this year until producers can recover and get a healthy bird stock established again.

And now we have tariffs to deal with, but time will tell how it all plays out. We here in Michigan stand to get hit hard. The auto industry of course is based here. But Canada provides 95% of propane needs to the U.P. And 88% of our electricity. New York and I think it was MN also get electricity from Canada. But maybe tariffs doesn’t include that. I read about that water release in CA too and couldn’t figure out what purpose it was going to accomplish since it wasn’t going south to L.A. Waste of precious water. Interesting times ahead.

See Thry are going to start lifting the wreckage out of the Potomac today. There are still 12 bodies unaccounted for, but they hope to find them once the wreckage is lifted out. Getting those bodies out had to be traumatic for those divers gong into that wreckage.

So, guess I shall get this day moving. Just finished up a breakfast of French toast and sausage. Going to run vac and then get in my office and put office supplies back in their drawers and run off a couple things I need for taxes. Just waiting on last two 1099’s and then will get taxes done. I don’t like waiting until the last minute. Then will work in my DP for awhile.

Almost evening here in PA. I’ve said several times today I should post and “stuff” kept getting in the way. Buddy and I just got back from a walk. After the snow and icy rain yesterday the temp was up to about 50. So in my wisdom I figured how bad could the project be. Dirt road and all! Well, I found out that it wasn’t a good idea at all, what a muddy mess. But Buddy was so excited that I decided to chance it. Don’t think I’ll do that again! But while he was eating his dinner I wiped his legs and belly and got most of the mud off. Plus gave my boots a good cleaning. Guess we’ll have to stick with the sidewalks in town! Although it was good to get out in the fresh air and walk. I saw a message pop up on my phone about the storm coming in from the west Wednesday into Thursday with some snow and more icy rain. So much for our thaw! I guess Phil got it right! At least today all the snow, what little we got, was all melted off the driveway and sidewalks. Barbie, your gourd art is so pretty. You’re so talented. Hope those of you getting rain don’t deal with flooding. Judy, I shared your blog from your last trip to England with my son. They are going to fly into London and spend a few days and then go to Holland. He wants to visit the area we lived and where he was born. Our neighbor is still there so they’ll get to visit with her and maybe her sons. He said there was some good information and said thank you. I remembered “rabbits” the other night before I went to bed so maybe it’ll help give me a good month. I need to get myself some dinner, leftovers from last night. Made sauce the other day so eating spaghetti again tonight. Froze several containers of sauce for later. I hope you all have a great evening and stay safe if you’re in the path of this storm.

Not much doing today. Big event was vacuuming, so you can see how boring it was. I am trying to get the odds and ends done for the estate, so had to sign a contract for income taxes to be done, but problems with it, so sent it back to get changes made. I was able to sort through some papers and file some of them, whihc helps my clutter.

Amazingly, tomorrow is supposed to be 76 with low tonight of 54! Not going to last very long, but I will enjoy being outdoors in the sun at least for a couple of days.

My head felt much better today. I hope it isn't temporary or a fluke. But I enjoyed going to lunch with a couple from my old park. We went to a restaurant none of us had been to but I will go back. And it's only a mile from me, do maybe occasionally get a pick up order. I had fish and shrimp for lunch, brought enough home to cover dinner tonight and abs enough still for a meal tomorrow.

Tomorrow I have appt for TY to get a bath and his nails clipped. The place is near Jersey Mike's so I'll go over for lunch to waste time while he gets mad at someone else clipping his nails.

I gave Luna a bath this morning and I sure would like to find someone else to do it. She is such a "velcro dog" that I don't know how she would take me leaving her somewhere. There is no such thing as her being in one room and me in another unless there is a fence between us. There is a Jersey Mike's in Lafayette and I think about stopping every time I pass it. I'm usually headed somewhere and return a different way and forget about it.

Didn't do much today except prune two more rose bushes. My arm looks like I have been in a fight. I only have one more to prune and it's a big one. I took a small container of spaghetti sauce out of the freezer and cooked some angel hair pasta. Had that for lunch and dinner. Slowly getting things in the freezer down.

spent money today ... got stuff to stain and varnish the box along with the brushes rags and cleaner.... came to a lot but most of it not the stain but the rest will be enough to do the other two boxes then went to the store and spent more got chicken for the butter chicken tomorrow night plus hamburger for supper... sil and I enjoyed it... dd was going to go bungie but she decided after I made the hamburger not to... her husband's father isn't doing very well so she stayed to help him get tickets ect he will fly out Weds Morning really early and I am not sure when he returns I suppose depending upon what he finds when he gets there...
read a recipe that I wonder about it was on something from Pocket... the article was saying that what Julia Childs was to French cooking this person whom I don't recall the name of was to Italian food... so that said the article also said that this was "suppose" to be the best sauce so I took it down but really have to wonder... it has three ingredients tomatoes (canned) butter and onion perhaps a bit of salt... :?
I will need something else for the boxes but can't recall the name of it and it is bugging me so hopefully you all will come through for me... you put it under the item you are attaching sorta a glue then several coats over the top of it to seal it on so it doesn't come off... what is it? I can picture the bottle actually looks like elmer's glue really popular a few years back
Barbie I forgot to mention how pretty your work looked
Sharon I was beginning to wonder and today here you are good to see you
Carol I too hope that Bill's surgery will go well and that he will be seeing much better
it's really warmed up here in Utah I looked at the ring and text brother said did you have the snow removal people to the deck as it's cleaned off like all snow is off it..as well as the sidewalk and I couldn't see that anyone had been there... we decided that it melted off warmed up enough and rained that the snow was gone on the deck sidewalk and driveway
it's suppose to get cold again...
you all have a great day

Sheila - Is it Mod Podge?

Never did tell Barbie and Carol how much I like their projects. Barbie has certainly found her gourd talent, and Carol always blows me away with how many different lovely crafts she completes. Love seeing members' projects.

Yes, Sheila, I also think you are talking about Mod Podge.

Thank you all for your comments on my gourd pieces. I really enjoyed working on them and learned so much!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
