Snowy Monday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Snowy Monday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Mon Dec 23, 2024 9:46 am

Good Morning on this snowy Monday morning. Neighbors just beelined out of here to head downstate. Hope they get ahead of the weather before it really starts in.

Shelia, my condolences to you and your family. At least your mother passed peacefully. We had my mother home with hospice for about a month and I know well the amount of care needed and the strain in the caregiver. My mother passed during the night and I was the one who discovered it. Yes, there is that feeling of loss, and the sudden abrupt change of one’s routine. But at the same time, a feeling of relief that it’s over for both her and yourself. It wasn’t easy for your mom nor you. And getting caught up in the holidays doesn’t help either. But take time for yourself to process and rest. Things will fall into place in their time.

Will be staying today and working in the house. Was going to run down to the Post Office as ran out of stamps to mail out a couple late Christmas, but decided it’s not worth it in this weather unless we get a lull. . So, am goi png to run the vac and then do a slight sanding and painting in that spot on the closet wall. Then can put the stuff back in that closet on the new shelf. Will get a clothes rod later. Then I will move sone more if not all of what remains in there, out. Just the bed and dresser.

Karen and Judy are on an organization binge. Guess I am too, to a point. That tine of year to clean and purge. Although mine is more clean than purge as I’ve already purged a lot of stuff.

So best get busy as time is moving on.

Morning Sue. I'm making a run to the store for shrimp trays to take for Christmas. I sure hope they fit in my fridge! If not I'll be doing some rearranging of the trays and the fridge! It looks like it'll be mid 80's on Christmas day. Perfect for our outside GTG.

Good morning. Getting closer to the big day for some. Myself, will be glad when it is all over and the crowds disappear from the stores. I still have not gone to the store. I think I actually have enough stuff to last until after the Christmas rush. Found a loaf of bread in my freezer while I was trying to reorganize it....amazing what I can find in there. Also time to clean out the fridge. Out with some of the old sauces and other stuff. Then can wipe down the shelves and clean out the crispers then that will be clean.

I was also a caregiver for my Mom and also my Dad. My Mom was around to help with my Dad so that was good. My Mom only lasted 5 weeks after her diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Hospice was a huge help and I commend those nurses all the time. As Sue said there was grief and relief with passing. Was peaceful in both instances and I regret none of it. But it is hard.

My weather is the same cool, damp, and foggy. Oh well it is winter so it will be what it will be.

I will run my big vacuum over my family room, living room and dining room. Henry can do the kitchen, hallway and guest bedroom. Sharing is caring LOL dont want Henry to feel left out. I will need to do my monthly maintenance on Henry soon. Filters, clean the wheels, wipe off the contacts, maybe change the brushes and just a good old wipedown of dust.

Almost breakfast time, having my second cup of coffee then will be time to start my day

A piece of a tooth broke off last night so I was carrying my phone around for a while waiting for the dentist office to call me. They are closed so not sure who I was talking to. I can have the dentist come in for an emergency visit for $250 plus whatever she does or wait until January 6. I'm not in pain so will try to wait. I had an appointment to get my teeth cleaned on the 7th so now they will clean my teeth on the 6th and fix the broken tooth. Why do these things always happen at the most inconvenient times?

Yesterday I let the Roomba run until the battery ran down. I lost track of how many times I emptied the cat hair. I need to run the vacuum on the big rug in the living room. I don't think the Roomba picks up all the dirt, it's more of a sweeper.

I need to go to the post office but waiting on a load of clothes in the dryer. I won't leave with the dryer running. Good thing about living near a small town, the traffic is seldom very bad. Walmart can get crowded but that's about all.

Sheila, sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Although expected, it is never easy. You have done a fantastic job of taking care of her. As noted, you are probably exhausted, so please take care of yourself and get plenty of rest. Thinking of you with love, Lyn

Good afternoon ladies!

We left to go to GA last week Monday and got back Friday evening. A dear friend of ours that we met camping in MD, almost 40 years ago, lost his house a few days before we got there. He lost his wife in Jan., so between losing her and his home and all his possessions and his cat, we felt it was only right to spend some time with him. We stayed in the same hotel as our friend, in the room next to him. He had a 25 foot travel trailer with no slides, so since the fire, has decided to buy a 30 foot travel trailer with two slides and will fulltime. Last week Thursday, Bill rented a small 4 ft x 8 ft U-Haul trailer to store his belongings from the smaller trailer. So I was inside packing all the belongings into bins and would in turn give the bins to Steve to store in the U-Haul. This was an all day chore and back breaking work, moving cushions from the dinette benches to get the things stored underneath and putting the wood plank and cushions back. And there were the items under the loveseat and mattress. And of course all the cupboard and pantry. Bill has COPD so he sat outside and supervised. He is supposed to pick up his new trailer Jan 6.

Once we got home, I got my music straight for yesterday's service and practiced. I need to do that for tomorrow evenings service as well. This morning I had my lab work done and will see my Dr. the end of next week. Where did the year go?

I think I am caught up on all the posts here but I am brain dead right now.

It is 4:45 here and almost dark but weather hasn't been too bad. I'm as usual totally unprepared for Christmas. I cleaned out the closet where all my wrapping paper and Christmas cards were and the bag I was going to save must have gone with what I gave away OPPS!
Sheila I'm so sorry to hear of your Mom passing. Please as others have said take good care of yourself now and rest.
The doctor here changed my BP medicine and I am not adjusting well to the new one. I think I get so stressed over taking it everyday it makes the numbers go way and then they upped the dosage. I went for acupuncture today and after the treatment it was perfect. She also put three very tiny needles on a sticky thing in my ears to keep me calmer and help me sleep. I can't feel them at all. I hope the homeopathic doctor in Brazil will be able to go back to work soon so I could ask her for something. She broke her femur and it has been a long healing process. I can't ask her questions until she is released from all rehab something to do with insurance. She is also a medical doctor as in Brazil you can only be a homeopath if you have a medical degree. The homeopathic medicine seems to work well for me.
Irmi rest well you are a good friend that sounded like a lot of work! Martha I hope your tooth doesn't start to hurt!! Sue you deserve a break from the weather!! Karen I wish I was as organized as you are. Beth hope your Christmas party goes well.

My goodness, Irmi, your friend has been through a lot! So nice you could help him. So many things happening we wish didn't. Martha, hope that broken tooth won't give you any problems. Beth, fun to have an outdoor party.

I just baked the one batch of cookies we are having. Daughter and I used to do so much baking, but now no place to share it with others. Tomorrow I'll make the caramel chocolate cheesecake.

I was still thinking about Sheila this morning when I remembered to check my brother's chart since he was seeing the doctor. Brother called just as I finished. As suspected, his scans were not good. They are stopping his infusions and are referring him to the cancer center in Seattle to see if he qualifies for a drug trial.

Some of you I think have seen the photos of the tree lights in Leavenworth. Saturday night a pickup drove on a closed street and onto the area 'park' among those trees. He proceeded to do donuts and tear the area up. Guess he didn't think about the multiple webcams - maybe didn't know about them since his license plate was Texas. There were two souped up cars there as well. I'm not sure they did anything other than drive on a closed street, but they have come forward. What is wrong with people!?!

No wonder people do not try to learn how to bake bread! I went to Barnes & Noble today to look for a book on baking bread for beginners. I want to give it to my DIL who wants to learn something I learned at about age 12, but all the books I saw were like 200-300+ pages long and included hundreds of recipes. When I was a kid, I learned to make just simple bread, but these books are very intimidating because they make the process look and sound very difficult. I finally found and ordered a much shorter book on Amazon, but even that was hard to find. I also bought her some bread pans, jar of yeast, and a bag of bread flour, so we will practice next week. She can get into harder stuff once she learns how to make basic white bread.

I'm going with my son and family to DILs father's house tomorrow and then to her mother's house on Wednesday for family Christmas. Tomorrow will be small group, but next day will be larger group.

been another day... when there is the two of us both pretty quite plus the "kid downstairs" who is in the other room and is pretty quite .... when you get more people here it seems busy I guess brother wanted to put in motion lights that has to wait so decided to put in a ring doorbell so we knew who was at the door... more for security because of mom being gone and times that I won't be here just to keep an eye out... but he couldn't finish hooking it up he and my phone didn't speak well... think it was he was tired needed to get on the road and he is an apple guy and I have not an apple  hopefully either some one can come do it or he will be thinking better when he comes again... we will need to find a time so we can get together and plan the funeral my granddaughter and two nieces I think are going to play the violin... I think we will ask the grandkids to sing a song some will and some won't but guess we will see it all needs to be planned
I actually watched something other than Hallmark Mysteries
I didn't make it to Idaho today dd was going to pick me up at 4:30 but called and said the pass is closed so can't come will tomorrow... some semi decided that he could go over the pass and jackknifed on the top I guess blocking both lanes... I don't know why they even try it's marked in several areas no trailers I personally think they need a hefty fine ....
again thank you for your thoughts
Irmi that friend has gone through a lot hope this new step is a good one for him
you all have a great day
