Hot and Hotter, Tuesday!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Hot and Hotter, Tuesday!

Postby BarbaraRose » Tue Jul 02, 2024 11:31 am

Good morning gals!

Got up early to do a haircut this morning. Now am waiting for my telehealth call with my ADHD dr. Saves me a trip to his office for a 5 minute visit.

Then I need to get my laundry done before the big heat hits here! I am totally out of things to wear. At 2pm, I have a meeting with my WorkForce career coach.

Still working on the piles of photos! I had figured it would take me a half a day to go thru them, but I didn't realize just how many I still had! :o Probably will take most of the week to finish that project. Then on to downsizing each room.

Peggy, Lyn bought a travel trailer and has it parked on a family property in San Diego, to live in there, so she can be closer with her family. She was feeling too isolated in the condo by herself.

Today will be 115* and heading up to be 121* by Friday :o and the same all next weekend! So it will be unbearably hot! And it is only the first week of July! We usually don't get that kind of heat (120*+) until August and then only for a few days!

I will be glad to get my new hearing aid. I was in WM yesterday and the noise in there was driving me crazy! It just all echoes inside my head!

Have a good day!

I hate to tell you Barbie, things will be louder with the hearing aid. But hopefully better.

Irmi so good to see you and to find out you were able to avoid hearing aids with the irrigation. That's great news.

I forgot there were some good sales at Safeway ending today but went in the app and placed a pick up order at 7:45 this morning and they could have it available by 9 am. I saved almost 50% and on things I wanted and needed. I planned to fill my cars gas tank but prices were up 30 cents a gallon since a couple days ago. I'm waiting and hoping it's holiday pricing so I'll wait and check again since I have no plans of going anywhere this week.

Karen, maybe I've missed it but haven't seen any posts from you for a bit. I miss them!!!

Bet , I want to thank you for getting me back to the board. Its 95 degrees ere but the humidity is low, considering what it was earlier. I'm concerned about the hurricane season, especially since the hurricane in the Caribbean is the earliest on record. We need to take the motorhome out to put some fuel in just in case we need to get out of dodge.

120*?? Now that is hot.

Just now checked my in-the-shade thermometer: "only" 110* right now. Supposed to me even hotter tomorrow. A new summer fire is burning just north of Oroville, about 35 miles or so from me. Hope they get it out soon, and hope I don't get any smoke here.

Stay cool, everyone!

Hope your trailer works out, Lyn. Don't forget to send us photos of inside and out.

Drove 270 miles today from Traverse City to the Ohio Turnpike, where I am camped out in the RV area that has electric hookups and a water fill and dump station. About 150 miles to my son's house tomorrow. Have a bunch of things I had shipped from Amazon and some mail that has arrived. Hoping my checks have arrived. I don't need them very often, but occasionally I really need them for something and i am almost out.

It was hot here too. It got up to 104 with a heat index of 115. It feels like an oven when I walk out the door. It's still 85.

The doctor's office called to make an appointment about my foot pain. I couldn't find my little change purse/wallet type thing I keep my cards in. I searched the house twice and the motorhome. I knew I had it when I went camping because I used my America the Beautiful card. I finally found it on the truck seat. It had fallen out of my purse when I mowed. My appointment isn't until the 23rd. I should be well by then. I also have a big red spot on the back of my leg. I hope it's not a spider bite.

I have a bunch of pictures I need to go through too. I keep putting that off like a lot of things. A cousin wanted a picture of my grandmother, my dad's mother. I only found 2 pictures of her in all the ones I went through.

It looks like the hurricane will make a North turn before it hits Mexico and might hit Texas. It's still a week out.

I got my ADHD meds refilled. Then did 2 loads of laundry. Went to my appointment with the career coach. She showed me how to navigate their website to look into courses I might like to take. Most of the ones they will pay for are 6 months to a year long. I really don't want to do anything that extensive. I am not really looking for a new career at this point. Anyways, I am not sure they would want to invest up around $10K+ for schooling for a 63 year old lady!

Need to call and make a couple appointments tomorrow, and then have PT in the afternoon. Will stop at the library to pick up a couple books. Probably back to looking thru more photos after that. My back hurts tonight. Muscle pains from doing laundry. Too much bending and lifting.

Ann, hope the fire doesn't head your way!
Martha, hope the hurricane doesn't head your way either! I would rather deal with this heat than deal with fires, hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes! This is somewhat normal for us but just a month or so early. Will be hunkered down here at home as much as possible for the next week, other than a couple appointments.

Good night!

I"VE BEEN EXCUSED from jury duty!!! I am so relieved. I found a number to call where I could leave a message and on the third attempt I received a call from a kind lady saying she had marked me as excused and I did not need to report. I wasn't going as I knew I couldn't physically make that drive and be there by 8AM! So now I don't have to worry about the US Marshall Service showing up at our home! It is supposed to be in the mid 90's today with high humidity making it feel over 100. I have massage appointment at noon so sure hope they are wrong. I guess I shouldn't whine as several of you have worse weather.
Yesterday at a house across the street and a couple of houses down from us they cut down all the huge beautiful shade trees. It actually took them 4 days as they were so big. I met the man who bought the property yesterday. He bought it to re-sell and I expressed my opinion that he had brought down the property value by cutting them down. He was polite and said the insurance company felt differently. I then asked why he didn't just have them trimmed instead. He didn't have much of an answer for that an I felt I had said enough at that point. It is amazing how much shade those trees provided for the house across from them and even our yard.
Sheila I've been worried that you have pneumonia so I think a doctors appointment is a good idea!

Thanks, Barbie.

The fire isn't too close to me - about 25 miles or so, with little to no possibility of it coming my way.

However, do have a lot of smoke in the sky over my house, which turns the daylight to a kind of a twilight brown (as the heavy smoke blocks the sun). Difficult to describe if you have never experienced it.

There are a lot of evacuations in the Oroville area, with the northern city limits of the city of Oroville, and Kelley Ridge, under threat. Looking at the webcams, the fire does not seem as bad as it did last evening; but with wind and high temps - I think it will be 111* - 112* here today - that can change.

California now has webcams that cover most of the state, there are a few of the cams pointing at Oroville Dam, where the Thompson Fire is burning.

https://cameras.alertcalifornia.org/?pos=39.5803_-121.3704_11&id=Axis-SunsetHill1

There is a button on the lower-right of this page that shows a live stream. These cams are interesting to watch, but since this is a live feed if you click on the link in a few days or so you might not see anything, because (hopefully) the fire will be out by then.
