Freaky Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Freaky Friday

Postby BarbaraRose » Fri Jun 28, 2024 1:24 pm

Good morning gals!

I couldn't come up with a good word for the subject line so I just came up with "freaky Friday"!

I talked to the man who was interested in my house. He said they are no longer interested because they want more outdoor space to have lots of friends over.

I went to my hearing aid appointment yesterday morning. Picked out a hearing aid and will go back next Friday to get the new one.

From there, I stopped at the County WorkForce that I have been working with. They had a job fair in the morning so I went to check it out. Nothing for me. Mostly full-time jobs and stand up jobs. The only one that sounded possible was donating plasma! I am not good at even getting blood taken :o so am not sure I could do that. :?

Then I stopped to see my career counselor there. I am meeting with her next Tuesday again. I told her about the training courses for ADHD coaching and she thought that could be a good plan.(She has ADHD too). So we will look into that, as well as more job possibilities. I did apply online for a part-time front desk job at MassageEnvy. Not sure if that would be sitting or standing but will figure that out later if I hear back from them.

I am starting to have sciatica pain again :( . Not bad, but I have noticed it that past couple days. I only have 3 more PT appointments so I need to keep up with those exercises here at home after that. Some I can do here in the house. Others I can do at the fitness room in the clubhouse.

Today I just have a couple phone calls to make and then start going thru the bins of photos. That will make a big mess in the living room but I have all weekend to work on that. Most will get tossed. Not sure who else would want them. My brothers already have boxes of photos they never look at either. I will keep some out to put in a small album for my daughter. I found another source of information for my mom's side of the family (and the kids in that photo). I realized that one of my "cousins" is actually the daughter of an actual first cousin, and she is a little older than me. She and her mom have a lot of information on that family. All of my cousins' kids are around my age. My mom was the youngest sibling and had me when she was in her late 30's. So my first cousins are/were quite a bit older than me, of course.

I still need to get my slider door locks re-keyed. I keep forgetting. I should check around for someone to do that. Beth, I have heard good things about Angie. I would trust that better than finding someone on CraigsList. Maybe read some reviews about it.

I will be staying inside today. Will be 113* today and for the next week! It isn't even July yet! Have a good day!

After being told a few years ago when I asked that I couldn't get an electric water heater I purchased a propane one to replace the outside propane one that didn't work. Another story there. So today I had someone out to take out the old outside one and install the new inside one. Connection at the propane hookup leaking. The company I used previously won't come and even look at it unless I sign a deal for one of their tanks. Smallest size they'll do is 120 gallons. Yes that's right. If I was here full-time, year round, I guarantee I wouldn't need to get it filled for my minimal usage in over two years. Plus I'd be paying $50 a year plus tax for the privilege of using their tank. Oh, and a $79 fee to being the tank and check the regulator. No thank you. I have no clue what I'll be paying for the plumber I called who is coming tomorrow to check it out but I also have to have the guy installed it today come back because the park won't accept the way it's vented. Maybe the plumber tomorrow can help with that, too. But I didn't blame today's guy. This place is old and he and I agreed we'd try to work with what's here. I guess we knew better. :?

So Barbie, freaky Friday works for me. Lol And sorry that guy decided against even looking at your place.

It's predicted to be 112* - 114* here at my place near Sacramento, California, on the 4th, and close to that temp on the days before and the days following the 4th.

I can't wait. :o :?

Martha, I occasionally have vertigo, and one thing I have learned is not to "leap out of bed," as one of my older friends once told me. If I sit up suddenly, especially at a certain angle, and then stand up and try to walk, I will get dizzy. I try to remember to move to a sitting position slowly, and sit on the edge of the bed for a couple of seconds before standing up. Low blood pressure can cause dizziness, but it can also be caused by suddenly repositioning the tiny iron particles in our inner ears. Ditto for bending over and then standing up suddenly. Worst I ever had vertigo was on the top of Pikes Peak. I bent over to look at the t-shirts on the bottom shelf, which was almost on the floor. When I stood up, I could barely walk. Luckily, I had taken the cog railroad to the top, so someone helped me to the cog car, and I was fine by the time I got back down!!

Am in Traverse City tonight. Niece's daughter's graduation party is tomorrow, so I drove up here for that. The cherry festival starts tomorrow, so I will take the shuttle there on Sunday and maybe Monday. Then headed back to Ohio to doggy sit for a week, which ought to be interesting. My son's very active Brittany last time kept tugging on leash and running in circles around me, nearly tripping me more than once. And this is a dog my son spent a ton of money on getting professionally trained, but my son only jogs with her and has not practiced leash walking unless she has a shock collar on. Nor have kids worked with her, so dog has learned two lessons: 1) you have to behave only with a shock collar on, and 2) you only have to behave with the trainer or my son walking her. Family is going to visit relatives in Boston for a week, so I am not telling my son, but we are going to work on her walking with a regular collar and with me walking her. (She knows what to do, just does not do it, and she does a fantastic job of assuming the "heel" position, but she thinks you only need to stay in position for maybe two seconds, which is not adequate!) I will report on results in a couple of weeks.

Oh, and when my son's family adopted an 8-week-old kitten about three years ago, she had already been spayed when they got her.

It only got up to 92 today and was overcast most of the day. It rained a little this afternoon. I mowed Luna's yard with the push mower. I really need to get that thing fixed to pull itself. Maybe I can catch the guy that has the cows and he can help me load it.

I put the pork country ribs in the slow cooker and they cooked all day. They were pretty good. I have a yellow shirt on and managed to get BBQ sauce on it. I really need a bib.

Beth, did they tell you why you couldn't have an electric water heater? I really don't like propane. Growing up we always had gas or propane heaters and oven. I hated to have to light that oven. Hope they managed to get you hot water.

Barbie, sorry another potential buyer didn't work out.

Judy, good luck with the dog training. I probably should go to some classes with Luna. She is getting better about meeting people at the campgrounds but she gets too excited if she sees a dog.

I went down to the ponds late this afternoon. The fish were bitting a little bit. The ones I caught were really dark colored, almost black. They are usually more green. Pulled some weeds out of the water. I have to stay after the weeds in the small pond or they will take over.

Sometimes I watch Jimmy Kimmel if it's not another re-run. This week Martin Short is a guest host. A little bit of him goes a long way.

My niece has a new puppy. Can’t think of breed but he is going to be huge. I did some
Online local searching and a lot of the training classes were very expensive—like over $600 for six classes. Many years ago I took classes through my city recreation dept but I could not find any here.

But, I did find out that Pet Smart offers classes reasonably. Regularly $149 for six classes but only $99 if you sign up before 7/7. Maybe some of the other pet stores also offer puppy classes. Better than paying several hundred fir commercial trainers.

I think one big advantage of classes is that they teach you how to do the training yourself.

Judy, I agree that some of the private trainers can be expensive but I will also warn you that not all those "trainers" at Pet Smart or the other cut rate places have any depth of experience...the different dogs....or different breeds or different people. Over the past 50 years I have taken several classes from instructors that were not really able to teach well but I usually was able to use the elements of the environment to accomplish what I needed to with my dogs. About 15 years age I stood outside a training ring set up in a PetsSmart an observed someone "training" a new hire how to run a class.....it wasn't inspiring.

I think what I see lacking the most in many instructors is an understanding of how to teach young or adult learners. Some I even recognize as talented trainers of their own dogs and accomplished dog exhibitors. They just never learned how to actually observe and teach people (as well as they did their dogs.) and we both know that the variables and nuances of that skill can not be passed on in an afternoon. And there is the whole world of different breed traits and individual dog temperaments to consider. Yes, I was an educator of children identified with special need. What I learned over all those years is that we all learn a little differently....and so do our dogs....

Martha, I believe that rule went back years and these places weren't built to have the amount of electric that people kept adding to the mix. I think they've dropped that rule for the new tables water heaters, but I found out too late. Oh well. I think I just need a new regulator for the propane and, of course, now for it to be vented correctly. I've got my fingers crossed that my favorite person (who has been to busy, that did my roof last summer) will find a way to fit me in soon and take care of these issues.

Sheila, the water is hooked up but until I make sure the propane tank is safe and I get the vent done properly, I still can't use it. Hopefully before summer is over and I head to Texas. Lol

Judy, $600.00 sounds incredibly pricey.

Look around and try to find a local AKC-affiliated all breed club (these are generally local clubs of dog lovers who have many different breeds).

Often, all-breed clubs have free, or nearly free (maybe $5.00 - $10.00 per class - meaning each time one attends one pays the fee for that day) puppy socialization classes and obedience classes. These classes are usually taught by someone knowledgeable and well known and well respected within the club.

I am wary of PetsMart type classes, because who knows who might teaching the class? So far as I know, anyone can declare themselves a "dog trainer" - there are no certifications or licenses required.

LOL, have a couple of business cards printed up and you are good to go.
