It’s Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

It’s Saturday

Postby Othersharon » Sat Feb 24, 2024 1:03 pm

It’s just after noon here and I’m not sure where my morning went. Yesterday was a sunny afternoon with high 40’s but today so far we’re barely in the 30’s with little sun. Crazy weather! Buddy begged for a walk yesterday so we went out to his favorite place and although it was wet and muddy from the all day rain the day before we managed to dodge most of the puddles. It’s a gravel/dirt road so it’s difficult to miss all the mud! But he was happy to be able to sniff and explore all the good smells to see who and what had recently been there. We did do some training too but mostly it’s his exploring walk. When we got home I took him around the block with him heeling the whole way with some turns and sitting. He did well. Still needs more work on distraction control when he greets people he knows and doesn’t listen to anything I do to control him. He completely tunes me out. I left a message for his trainer to see what insight she can give me. So anyway today’s a new day and we’ll press on. Beth, your TT is going to be so homey when you get everything done you want to do. Cheryl, good that you have a home now that you can return to when you need a break from your travels. Karen, sounds like you have a big project with your raised beds! But it’ll be worth it come planting time. Sue, glad Molly is doing well. Sometimes I think it’s more traumatic for us than them. Amazing the resilience of our pets. I’ve been following a couple of blogs on camping and I’m amazed at the rates campgrounds are charging and how difficult it is to get into them. I seldom made reservations and just stopped whenever I wanted to stop for the night and could almost always get a site. Plus it’s hard for me to plan months ahead unless I have a specific place in mind for whatever reason. Guess those days are gone or else I’ll be doing more dry camping if it’s just one night and I’m just wandering with no destination in mind. Got off on another tangent so guess I should close this out and get busy with housekeeping I started! Hope for a good day for everyone.

Good afternoon, Sharon. It's now just past noon in my current time zone. I think Buddy is doing a great job. Or you are or, most likely, a combination of both :D

No real plans today. TY didn't want to take the longer path I planned on this morning. He wanted to walk through the park in hopes of seeing his friends that give him treats. He did see a few friends and get some pets in, but not the treat giving friends. I very carefully watch the treats he gets. I gave the person who gives him the most treats done good, healthy treats to pass out to any dogs he wants. Still pay attn though, because I'm not going to let him gain weight, which I do easily enough. Lol

I've got an episode of Elementary on the TV right now. I can enjoy watching this occasionally.

Sharon, I use to travel like you, drive until I felt like stopping and found a campground. You almost can't do that anymore. Now you are lucky if you can even get a site in the popular campgrounds. And the price of some campgrounds is out of sight. Some want $50 and all you get is a site, no pool or any extras. Thursday when I was going to town I met campers headed to the local state park. With this nice weather they will probably have a crowd. The state parks in Louisiana give a senior discount so we can camp for half price. Most of the state parks have put in sewer and some are in the process.

I knew the guy was coming sometime this morning to fix the light in my refrigerator so I had to get up and get dressed early. He showed up at 10:00 and now I have lights.

I decided to mow and got that done. The grass isn't growing much but the clover has gone crazy. I need to take the weed eater and do the clover in Luna's yard. We have played ball so much that some places are bare but the clover is high along the fence. The mower needs to go to town again but I have to get someone to help me load it. I am really thinking about getting an electric mower.

Need to go look for something for lunch.

Good morning. It is a chilly 38 and foggy and damp so the other half of my raised bed will have to wait. The metal awning is dripping from fog and condensation so I sure dont want to be out there yet. But hey, half is better than none for now. I am hoping the sun comes out soon....wishful thinking anyway. It usually comes out about noon but it is almost 11 now and still foggy. I have some chores to do inside so that will work for now.

I also am going to connect my new antenna to my living room tv and hope it pulls in more channels than the cheapy one I was using did.
Am getting caught up on my weekly shows except for Fire Country that was on last night. Nothing on tonight that I watch so will just find something to stream after Fire Country..

I used to love RV'ing and just camp whenever I felt like it. But we all know that has totally changed. It was always similar for the state parks but the private ones always seemed to have room....Not anymore. My favorite camping spot at the Casino started out at $30, escorted you to your site, washed my window on my Class A, and brought a Sunday paper. It is now over $70 and in the summer you better have reservations and of course Holidays,,,,forget it. Unless you make reservations well in advance. The campground on the river used to be in the $30's and now it too is over $70 And lets not even talk about the prices at the coast if you can even find one available. It is just unreal. I miss camping but it is an expensive thing anymore not even counting the maintenance, insurance etc

Took some salmon out of the freezer so that and a veggie for dinner will work. I was up early 4:30 as that seems to be the norm lately. Had breakfast at 8 and already looking forward to lunch ha ha Decided I would have another cup of coffee and then get busy, just not sure if it will be inside or outside yet.

Feeling a little better today. Had an English muffin two scrambled eggs for breakfast/lunch.

And you are both right about campsites costing more. One thing is that some state parks are charging a separate electric fee, and that can add from $7 to $10 per night!!! Last night, I was plotting out my trip back to Ohio and there were no handy state parks available near I-75 in much of TN and KY. Found commercial campground, not even good ones, charging $60-$70 per night!!! Wow.

Luckily, I have not found any increased prices on COE campgrounds and have spent most of the late fall and winter paying only $15 per night. And in Ohio, I get 50% discount on weeknights and 10% off on weekends, so most W&E sites are still costing me only $18-$22 per night there. And there are still some bargains--Tennessee still gives seniors 25% off, so my upcoming stay in a couple of their parks is only costing me $27 per night, including reservation fees. (I adjusted my trip slightly to stay in state parks and avoid the $70 commercial campgrounds.)

Also, New Mexico still offers its annual camping pass for $225 for non-residents. NM campsites cost only $10 for non-electric and $14 for electric, but with the pass, you get non-electric sites for free and then only have to pay the $4 fee per night for electric, if it is available. That's a super deal, and I have several places in that state I love, including Rockhound, Elephant Butte, and Oliver Lee. Plus, there are some nice COE campground in northern NM--Abiquiu Lake costs only $8 per night, and Cochiti Lake costs only $10 per night, and those are both with electric hookups! (Warning: a lot of the state parks in NM have dirt roads, so I am careful which ones I stay at because I don't like to have to keep windows shut because of dust.)

not a lot happened today just the norm with a trip to the store and even there I didn't get as much as I typically would have... hardly worth reporting on
I know the last time that I went to a campground or RV Park was amazed at the cost my thoughts was almost could pay for a motel and at the Park you provide everything all they do is have hook-ups but I guess if went want to do it it's a price we have to pay but I also never was one to get reservations might have to rethink that
I saw a loaf of bread that was tempting and in the cheese area they had a table out with samples of cheese and sour cherries preserves and this bread which is a brioche made into a loaf and sliced it was really good all of it was really good but the price wasn't almost 7 a loaf if I remember correctly but boy was it good should be at that price right
you all have a great day
