Sunday, November 19th

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday, November 19th

Postby Colliemom » Sun Nov 19, 2023 7:32 am

Morning everyone. Still dark out there yet. Crisp 27°. Supposed to be partly cloudy and cooler today.

Heading for the shower shortly and then off to Mass later. Nothing planned for today. Thinking I might wrap the Garland around the sign posts out front, as weather looking bit colder and maybe bit snowy after Tuesday.

Beth, I hear ya on the hot and cold. I can’t tolerate hot temps, but cold doesn’t bother me. But like the line where hot is too hot, there’s cold is too cold. When temps start pushing 75 and above, it’s lay low tine for me and below zero is pretty much inside the other way. But we don’t have much of that fortunately.

Karen, thanks for the evaluation in the donuts. I did some research and found out I can get them at a bakery here in Gaylord. Will have to inquire and try one.

As to hearing aids. Like Beth said, you need to make sure they fit right. And it’s not one size fits all. Each persons loss is different. Prices run the gamut, but they should not be a determination point in what you get. Mine are expensive, $3000 apiece. But they are what I need for my loss. Good quality digital ones. Having a good audiologist who knows their stuff, is concerned for your hearing level and not how much Thry can make on a sale is important. There are 3 in the office I go to. I get my aids checked and cleaned about every 4 months as part of my purchase and a quick hearing rest couple tines a year. Plus free batteries. The checks and cleaning keep them in their optimum performance.

Judy, you sure have tackled a major project. Good luck in finishing it.

I’d better get moving here. Catch you all later.

Good morning Sue and all. A chilly frosty morning here this morning! It’s a rude awakening in the morning to go from my cozy bed to the outside with the dog! But at least the sun is out and it is warming up a bit. These winds we’ve been having play havoc with working in the yard cleaning up leaves! I’m about at the point of just leaving them alone, the rain we’re forecasted to get on Tuesday will wet them down and they won’t blow as much! The driveway’s clear so there shouldn’t be much problem if I need to use the snowblower at some point. I think I need to get another bag of ice melt since the bucket is only half full. Depends on how much ice and snow we get this winter as to whether I’ll need more but I’d rather be prepared. I usually get the kind that’s safe for pets and for cement and blacktop. One thing I want to do today is to put away my rakes and whatnot and drag out the snow shovels so they’re easy to get to. Was going to do that the other day but got sidetracked with everything else in the yard. It’s not looking good to get help covering the RV so it probably won’t get done again this winter. Buddy just woke up from his morning nap and is hovering by the door so guess I should take him out again. He seems to enjoy the colder temps unlike me! Hoping everyone has a good day today.

I went to brunch with my meetup group yesterday. I had a Belgian Waffle with fried chicken breast. It was very good and everyone's food looked good. I don't really care for donuts. When I was in college the only place that would deliver food at night was a donut shop and I got sick of them. I like the apple fritters at Walmart.

I found the wind chime for my Christmas campout but bought too much Christmas candy. It's still in the car and needs to go in the camper and not in the house. Stopped at TJ Maxx and found the ugliest Christmas sweater. It has Flamingos and pompoms and I had to have it. I'll wear it to the Christmas party. Stopped at the local grocery store to get 1/2 & 1/2. I wanted a bag of potatoes but I wasn't paying what they wanted when Walmart usually has them for $3.

I have never had Chile Rellenos. Are they hot?

Anita, I saw a picture on Facebook that made me think of you. It showed some bricks made to look like flip flops. The caption said "The upstairs neighbor's favorite shoes."

It's 75 today and sunny. Tomorrow it's suppose to be 80 with an 80% chance of rain and then turn cool for Thanksgiving. I need to go find something for lunch. I still have some potato salad so might defrost some gumbo.

Sharon, your posts about having to go out in the morning with Buddy remind of what's like to have a dog. My life would revolve around a dog. The cats are bad enough. I'm still on too many rescue sites but the dogs I like are too far away.

Martha, thanks for the laugh! It's still annoying, but I'm getting used to it, I guess. We had a little rain last night and it's 50 degrees!

Text with daughter yesterday brought Thanksgiving plans, but at least they have agreed to not fix so many dishes! Especially since they like to fill my plate for me! I finally remembered to purchase tickets to the Village Voices Christmas concert December 10. We enjoyed it last year. The same theater is doing 'Pride and Prejudice' that is advertised as' not your grandmother's'. Apparently, a comical play. That's Monica's favorite book so we'll see it next Sunday. Wenatchee has a lot of good stage entertainment, but it's always at 7:30 p.m.

Judy, that's quite an undertaking! Between Cashmere and Leavenworth, we have a lot of bakeries around here! There's also an ice cream/gelato shop we hear is quite good. Things I don't need. Almost time for more football!

Good afternoon. Was chilly and rainy this morning. The sun just now has peeked out but I suspect briefly. Not feeling too motivated today so sat around before lunch and was reading my book, finished it so now what to do hmmmmm We got lots of snow up at Diamond Lake the last couple of days and I want to take a drive up there in the future. They usually plow the road into the resort but I wont go if it is actively snowing. Also want a nice sunny day. LOL
I am thinking I better find something to do to help pass the winter months. Not sure what that will be yet. My neighbor suggested volunteering at Saving Grace an animal rescue not far from here BUT not sure I am up for that. I am kind of picky LOL I dont want to do Meals on Wheels, read to kids at the library, certainly not clean up after the homeless. I might check out volunteering at one of the thrift stores, sounds more up my alley LOL One day a week would do me, dont want to overdo it. Not even sure I want to volunteer anywhere. But if the right opportunity came along I could consider it. Wildlife Safari takes volunteers but good grief what you have to do to just volunteer there sounds too much like what a person has to go thru for J O B. Background check, references, tb test...oh hell no. If I am going thru all that then I need a real job, with a real paycheck ha ha and we know that isnt going to happen. Those people expect you to show up ha ha
Oh well I will get busy painting my bathroom after the holidays, will give me time to accumulate my supplies and motivation.
Making stir fry for dinner, right now I am having another one of those donuts. I never eat donuts but these are pretty good and light not dense.

Martha, Chili relenno "heat" depends on the peppers you use. I always use mild Anaheim, which are long and about 2-2.5 in diameter. Many times I've used canned whole. You can batter and deep fry, or make them in a casserole and bake. They are basically peppers, stuffed with cheese, usually jack or another hard cheese, then I cover with a egg, cream, salt and pepper batter and top with more cheese and bake until light brown on top and bubbly as cheese melts. Simple, but tasty and avoids having to mess with frying. Traditional are stuffed with cheese, then battered and deep fried, then sometimes served covered with a red sauce and more cheese.
It's a chilly 61° day after rain here, with clear blue skies and brisk breezes bringing leaves down carpeting the yard. I'm about to walk, while watching a video on one of my fav YouTube channels. Appears we got about 0.49 inches with November total, so far, 0.86 inches. Forecast not showing any more rain in November over next 10 days!
While I have eaten donuts, they are not a favorite at all. Not any type!
Have a good rest of your day.

Pretty much what Velda said on chili rellenos. But I expect a Mexican restaurant to make them right. There are a few choices in the peppers, poblanos top the list as do Anaheim chili peppers but not always available. They are a mild pepper. Most peppers for these must be precooked, then the covering removed before cleaning, filling with cheese. For real ones true Mexican cheese is used (not spicy) such as queso asedero which is a white Mexican cheese. Then they are coated (mostly egg, flour and a little baking powder) and fried. Yes, they can be baked, but I want them fried lol I fell in love with them years ago but they are beyond what I want to make. Although I bet I could do them in the air fryer so maybe I'll give it a shot one day. The past few years getting authentic ones has been difficult and today was no exception, unfortunately. These would have been ok, but they didn't remove the covering, so it was hard to even cut the pepper with a knife and were not fried. Then the sauce they provided tasted more Italian to me than Mexican lol. I haven't given up. I have left overs and will use my own hot sauce with it after I cut it into small pieces before trying to eat it. I'll try another place another day.

Karen, I'm smiling that you're enjoying those donuts. I like volunteering, but it can become a job, too. So I understand you being careful what you agree to.

OK now you folks have done it.......I am craving chili rellenos. I love them, I almost always order a chicken enchilada and a chili relleno. A couple of my hispanic friends made them in the oven and also fried them. I actually liked them both ways. They made them with Poblano peppers, for us gringos ha ha They made most of their own with chili anchos as they are spicier. They come dried and you have to reconstitute them I guess before using them. Beth sorry yours weren't up to par. I have my appetite whet for mexican and I am having stir fry, what is wrong with this picture. Martha I never eat donuts either. I think I just became possessed over the idea of something different. I have had my fill now will give the last 2 to my neighbors. My mantra for the rest of the year NO MORE SWEETS.

I’m still alive in the Land of Infinite Variety! We can be in the upper 60’s one day and the 30’s the next. It’s raining right now which is just fine as long as it doesn’t turn to ice or snow.

Seems that I have spent the last month with a sore arm. So far I’ve had my flu and Covid vaccines, my Prolia shot, the RSV vaccine and a tetanus shot. Hope I’m good for a while.

My days consist of driving to the Wellness Center in the morning and working out for an hour and coming home. About once a week I go to the local café for coffee hour with some ladies. And about once a week I go to happy hour with friends. I haven’t been bartending because the part-time evening bartender was a police officer and couldn’t get his blood pressure under control so was forced to resign. I told Jim to offer him any hours that I usually worked first because he has a wife and kids to support and my wages were pretty much just fun money. When he gets another full time job I’ll start again.

Last night I had the grands overnight while their parents went to a concert. The older they get the easier it is to have them. They’re busy kids. Bronc was out for football again this year and his team ended up winning their district and went on to the regions where they placed second. And yes it was tackle. It doesn’t appear to be any rougher than watching a bunch of boys wrestling around when they are playing! Haddie is in Heaven. Her dad bought her a new horse…a mare that is 12 years old and just perfect for her. She’s very gentle but still has spirit.

We’ll be having a small gathering for Thanksgiving at Ryan and Ashley’s. I’m supposed to bring buns and a dessert. Christmas will be here, but not sure of the date because Sean doesn’t have his work schedule yet.

Last night the kids told me some things they wanted for Christmas. This afternoon I spent my time shopping online. The adults draw names and I have my daughter-in-law. She likes craft projects and I ordered her one of those Edinburgh hand casting kits. Hope she likes it and the kids can hold still long enough for them to do it.

Judy, your pictures with the baby gorilla brought back some memories. We took the boys to the Omaha Zoo and there were two young gorillas that were wild that day! They were smearing feces on the viewing window. The boys must have been about 3 and 5 at the time and thought it was really funny. All I could think of was this could be trouble when we get these two hooligans home.

I’m not going to comment on anyone else! Every night before I go to sleep I read the posts on the forum on my phone. I hate pecking out a reply the phone! So please know that I am thinking of all of you….just lazy about posting.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving week.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Good evening gals!

Was super windy overnight and most of the day today! Of course, with that comes the dust

Work was just steady all day which is the way I like it, but I was working with my manager so we were keeping up good with those coming in for cuts. My back was really killing me all day, tho. Tomorrow is the big day! My manager will be picking me up at 7am to take me to the surgery center. I should be home by noon or 1pm.

After work, I hobbled around WM to pick up a few things. I needed to get some cheese and crackers for the Thanksgiving dinner. That is what I was told to bring. Also got myself an early X-Mas present. A foot massaging bath thingy. I soak my feet now in a little tub. This one will keep the water hot and has vibration, etc. and different textured mats to put on the bottom. I also got a pouch of the Dr Teals lavender bath soak powder. So my feet should be happy. I haven't had any more cramps but just standing on my feet all day, they get real achy and sore.

I have a funny story about soaking my feet once in one of those foot baths that had water jets. I accidentally put the wrong bath bomb in it and all of a sudden I had a foot of suds all over my living room! Reminded me of a possible I Love Lucy episode! It was funny but what a mess! It happened so fast! Before I knew it the suds were everywhere!

I have been feeling dehydrated the past day or so, so I made sure today that I drank a lot of extra water. I am on my 5th bottle of water which is a lot for me. I usually only drink 3 per day. I should be able to get one more down tonight before midnight. After that, no more food or drink. Not sure it that includes water or not. :? Need to remember not to grab something to eat or drink in the morning. I picked up a new flavor of protein drink at WM - Winter Mint Chocolate. It taste OK but I think it would taste better with some Baileys in it. :)

Am tired tonight so am laying on my bed with the heating pad under my back. Will get to bed early. Nothing on TV on Sunday nights, anyways.

Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

No progress on my door, but I did dump my tanks today and go out for ice. I also spent about an hour watching the lock operating and talking to an older couple who are full-timing in a boat in Palm Beach near here. It was interesting. I asked about sewage and they told me that they get pumped out once a week by a company, but that only applies to black water. Any shower or other grey water gets dumped right back into the harbor or ocean or whatever.

Going to tackle the passengers mirror tomorrow. It looks easier than the door. Also wrapped quite a few Christmas gifts for California tonight. Need to run out to Walmart in a couple of days to get more wrapping paper and tape.

I am taking things slow, but that is OK. Nothing drastic needs to happen right away. And I am still chuckling about the Vodka Cake. I had never seen it before and really appreciated it.

Beth, typically the peppers, if fresh, are either roasted over an open flame or put under a broiler, until skin is blackened, then you seal them in a paper bag for 15 min, then they peel easy using your hands and a paper towel to rub off the skin. They are not "cooked" per se, but the skins slip off. Flesh is not quite crispy as fresh, but not fall apart soft either. We did it many times, as Mel loved the roasted, peeled peppers for his chili and other recipes. It's easy, just a bit time consuming. People with a gas stove put them right on the burner, then turn as skin chars, them move to paper bag. Mel did it with his BBQ. If dried peppers, you put in a bowl, then cover peppers with boiling water, then a towel or plastic over top and let sit 30 min or so. Once cool enough to handle, you drain and slit and pull out seeds and membrane. We did that a lot and I still do for chili. I take tops off of soaked peppers, remove seeds, then put in blender with just enough soaking water to get them to blend to purée to add to pot of chili. Mel had a particular group of various dry chilis he added to chili for flavor and just the right amount of heat. SOOO much better flavor than jars of chili powder! I have a big plastic tub of his favorites I pull from. Kept completely dry, they last years.
