Rainy Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Rainy Wednesday

Postby JudyJB » Wed Nov 15, 2023 9:11 am

Rainy for next few days here in Florida. Barbie, my California son’s cats do the same thing about their “empty” bowls, but they are now really overweight and are on diets, so they are having to get used to it.

I would never want a residential refrigerator unless I was never going to drive anywhere. I would always be worrying about food melting on a long day somewhere. I also like being able to leave my rig at an airport for a few days. Also like the rare times when I stay somewhere without hookups.

I am still in bed watching tv. Might go back to sleep. Isn’t retirement great???

Good morning, cloudy and damp here this morning ha ha I sound like a broken record. Just no fog yet today. Not cold out 51 so that is doable. Just finished some breakfast and pondering what I will get into today. House is pretty clean so I think I will reorganize my freezer as I cant find what I am looking for half the time. Probably need to throw out a few things as garbage comes on Friday. When it warms up I need to pull and toss my Martha Washington geraniums. They were so good this year but apparently they dont winter over here well. So will just get rid of them for this year. I also need to put my raised bed I ordered together. I put two smaller ones (4x2x1) together last year and I really like them, worked out well. I have clay soil so it is like digging in cement so need the raised beds. The one I ordered is 8x4x2 so much bigger and deeper so will be able to put it in my garden area and put the "3" only 3 tomato plants in that as my large tomato stands will fit perfectly. I need to put it together outside obviously so need to wait until it warms up a bit more. Think it is going to be 61 later and some sun so that will work.
Well time to get off here and get a few things done

The forecast here has been "rain, rain and more rain" for the last two weeks - at least.

We have yet to see nary a drop.

I'm with Velda - I'm not going to think about rain until I go outside and my head gets wet!!

Ok, friends. . . it's that time of year again!

Please get busy with the "snow at my house" photos.

I can't wait!!  (of course, where I live, I never have to deal with it 8-) ).

Good afternoon Judy and everyone!

Judy, I was thrilled to read that you'll be able to get just the refrigerator door. I hope you can find one in a reasonable amount of time. I've been enjoying reading your blog and can appreciate why you like the campground on the ocean since we are familiar with that area.

It was 69 degrees when I got up and we're at 72 now with a very light rain. I just came back from the country store in town and didn't even have to use my windshield wipers, that's how lightly it is raining. The Tampa weatherman said Miami is supposed to get 6 - 10 inches of rain in the next 24 hours. I'm glad we're not that far south. We've got a chance of rain this afternoon and again tomorrow. The weekend weather looks like we'll be dry.

I had a rough night. It started out with leg and foot cramps, and then restless legs and hands. I just couldn't get comfortable and had to keep getting up and walking around. I soaked my feet in very warm water which helped a little with the foot cramps. I don't think I finally got to sleep until after 4am.

Got up just before 9 and went to do a haircut. Now I feel like a basket case  , but need to get going on stuff around here. Am thinking of taking a short nap first and hope I feel better afterward.

We have rain in the forecast today too, but most likely won't see any on this side of the valley. It is clouding up some this morning but nothing dark or ominous looking. As long as it doesn't rain on Friday!

Have a good day :)

I spoke too soon! It is raining now! Nothing heavy but a steady rain.

Got my laundry in the washer. Never took a nap but I will later. Need to eat lunch and start cleaning up the house, mostly the kitchen. Can't do anything outside for now but most of that will be done tomorrow anyways.

Cats are doing zoomies thru the house and porch. Good thing to do on a rainy day! No zoomies for me tho!

Barbara- foot and leg cramps are a sign of magnesium deficiency. You need to use or take the right type magnesium (example mag citrate is a laxative while mag glycinate is not, unless you over dose on it).
1. Pick up a cheap bag ofepsom salts and a kitchen size trash can. Put very warm water and Epsom salts (use up to a cup per trash can 3/4 full of water) in trash can. Soak lower legs while you sit in a chair and read until bedtime. You will sleep better and have much lower likelihood of legs cramps.
2. Buy a good quality Magnesium supplement and start with lowest dose. Example: CALM from Costco, Amazon, or other store. Use maybe 1/4-1/2 scoop mixed in a glass of water before bed. Work up to a scoop every night. Or Magnesium pills but read labels and get the right magnesium salt (google magnesium salts-uses).
Don't be one of thise people who later says, oh I used it once and it didn't work,or you didn't like it, or (take a big dose) and wonder why it made you sick. It takes a bit to get yiur levels back up. And a blood test is all but irrelevant, unless you are very sick. And catastrophically low, it will not show on blood test as your body will rob magnesium from bone to keep blood level up as long as any is available!
My latest RX was dropping my magnesium asi began to notice foot and calf cramps trying to happen! I titrated my daily doses of magnesium up a bit at a time , now no more hint of leg/foot cramps.

Thanks Velda. I will check that out! I am not familiar with magnesium.

I was also thinking it could be a combination of standing on my feet all day and dehydration. I have special insoles for my shoes but for some reason they went missing so I haven't had those in my work shoes for awhile. I can't find them anywhere so I just ordered a new pair. They really help keep my feet comfortable when I am on my feet a lot. Not sure how they went missing... :? May also be why my lower back has been hurting as well. I try to drink a lot of water at work but when it is busy, I forget, so I tend to get dehydrated. Being in the desert, it is easier to get dehydrated too, just from the dry air. I try to keep up with my intake of water.

Got my laundry done but not put away yet. Just had lunch. I rewrote and printed up new brochures of my house listing for the Open House. I didn't care for some of what was in the original brochure and some was a little inaccurate. Also fixed some grammatical/spelling/punctuation errors.

Still need to do some cleaning around here. Need to wait for my chili to settle first. Not raining right now but still kind of dark out, so we might be getting more later.

Barbara, guess what long standing (stress) and dehydration do? Yep! Lower/use up magnesium. We used to get ample from food, because plants got it from soil. Now days, it is well known that soils and there fore plants, are depleted/low in magnesium, due to overuse of crop land. It's worth a try and a bag of Epsom salts a 4 lb bag of lavender scented Dr Teals fancy Epson salts is $4.97 on prime! I've seen plain stuff for way less$$ .

Thanks, that is good to know. I will get the Epsom salt and find that magnesium supplement on Amazon.

It has been overcast all day but the rain moved off to the East. I talked to the guy that has the calves here and he was happy that the rye grass is coming up since we got some rain. I went to town and got my covid shot. I had thought about getting it before I left for my campout but decided to wait. I did that once and it didn't work out too well. So far I don't feel anything. They are recommending a shot called RSV that I have never heard of before this year.

Just being nosy I looked at the biggest turkey in a freezer case and it was $43. The small turkey roasts are $17 at the local store. I need to see what they are at Walmart. I am seeing a lot of ham recipes on Facebook but if I cooked a ham I would be eating ham for 6 months. I think I still have a cornish hen in the freezer. That would be more my size. I saw a recipe for an eggnog pie. I might have to try that for the next campout. Our Christmas campout starts November 30. I think the gift this year is a wind chime. That's not something I see very often. If I'm going to order one I better get on it.

Martha, I saw a turkey breast at WM for $20! I think you can buy a small piece of a ham to cook. I have bought ham steaks which are good too. WM used to sell a small chunk of turkey breast but I can't find that there anymore.

We are now having a thunder storm moving thru with heavy rain. I guess the forecast was right about today's weather! This storm system is coming across the mountains from Oceanside/Carlsbad/Vista area where I used to live.

I bought some more turkey thighs at a Publix last week and one lady said I should buy a whole turkey because they were 26 cents per pound! I told her i could never cook a whole turkey in my tiny oven!

So idle minds, play on the computer AND spend money ha ha I put a few things in my Amazon cart, may or may not buy but I am waiting for Black Friday to see if they go cheaper then will decide. What I did buy tho will probably totally ruin my healthy nutrition status. One of the gals here in town is making these

Malasadas a Portuguese donut adopted by Hawaii

They are from Hawaii and moved here getting their business started. I consider it helping the cause LOL I ordered half a dozen filled ones
3 filled with chocolate and dusted with cinnamon and sugar
3 filled with Macadamia Nut Custard also dusted with above
I pick them up in town on Saturday so by Saturday night I will be in a sugar coma

Martha I have treated many babies for RSV it is a respiratory illness. I never associated it with older people. Never heard it mentioned in that context until the last couple of years. I will get mine on Monday. No Covid shot this year and already had my Flu shot. My grandson was born extremely premature in April and back then (20+ years ago) he had to go to the hospital and get an IV for RSV every month starting in October until April. He was in Childrens Primary in Salt Lake City, that was their protocol.
Barbie I take Magnesium citrate 200mg and Vitamin D3 every day as Velda said most of us are low on both. A 1-oz. serving of dark chocolate provides 15% of the DV for magnesium. It’s also beneficial for gut and heart health and is loaded with antioxidants. ...I am all over that one.
A medium avocado provides 14% of the DV for magnesium. Avocados are packed with several other nutrients and may help reduce inflammation, improve cholesterol levels, and increase fullness. I eat one every day.
1-oz. serving of cashews contains 83 mg of magnesium, or 20% of the DV And a whole host of other seeds, leafy veggies etc also contain some magnesium. A girl can only eat so much food in a day so I take a supplement and it keeps me regular also. OK it is past my bedtime.....night all

I saw a picture the other day on Buckrail I think showing a mother black bear with her COY's the daily reported yesterday that the guys picture showed 5 cubs that is 5!!!! just seems like a lot of little ones to take care of... makes one wonder what the size of den they build??? we have one griz that she often has multiples the batch before this year was 4 can you imagine mom and 4 the winter before she kicks them to the curb??? I think it's in the 3 rd summer that she pushes them away as it is with all of the mom's I read where they can move a ton of soil that seems like a lot so I may be misremembering the amound I do remember thinking wow that is a lot of soil... went to ace's and got batteries and decided to try the plug in rodent repellent my dd has tried it says she hasn't seen mice since so hopefully it will help cost a bundle... the Albertson's for mom's RX and of course other stuff that I either forgot or normally get there... I like a brand of frozen veggies that they carry over Kroger's didn't do the sweet and sour tonight but think it will happen tomorrow other than I don't have the pineapple juice will have to drain some off of a can of pineapple all told it was an expensive day...
Martha when you have jumblayia (sure didn't spell it right) what do you serve with it???
when I got off last night and went to bed I thought of what it was I wanted to mention and thought if I had the forum on my phone I'd so a edit now... I don't so I didn't and now I don't remember...
Karen thank you for the recipe that is what she did but with peaches... she mentioned that she did a video with apple pie filling but she actually enjoyed the peaches better... when I was in 4-H many moons ago we did a dessert that was drained canned peaches with a topping brown sugar and butter and who knows what I don't remember now other than I really liked it...
one of the things I bought yesterday was ham from the shank looked at turkey the fresh don't know the weight but it was so high close to 50 then looked at turkey breast then a small turkey think around 20 or more... the ham was 16 in the discounted area
