Rainy Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Rainy Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu Oct 26, 2023 8:43 am

Morning everyone. Another rain day on tap. Been raining everyday since Monday afternoon. Few breaks for awhile, then back to rain. Might see 1-2 inches by tomorrow morning. Temp is currently 59°, so not that cold, but damp.

I’ve had a couple root canals done and not too bad. I kind of prefer them to getting crowns put on due to all the strain on the jaw from having to get the crown in place. Lots of pushing down to make sure it’s secure etc.

Martha, hope your migraine is gone this morning. Judy, glad you didn’t get hurt when you fell. I took a tumble after catching my toe on edge of my deck one day here. Was next to the house so kind of slid down the wall to brace myself, but landed on my knees. Ouch. Course dogs loved that I was on their level, LOL. Had a couple sore knees for a day or so.

Finished tracing and cutting out the last of Christmas figures yesterday. That’s it for this year. I’ve been doing a lot of that ancd painting this year. Have to say I am getting tired of it. Time for a break and do other things. I messed up one cutout yesterday, so cut a replacement piece and will do a repair today. That and the fact my saw isn’t cutting that good, tells me it’s tine to quit. My boy and girl figures now have outfits for various seasons, so next year can just change them out.

So today will do a little sanding over the new cutouts and get them printed, finish a few minor touchups on the one on my table and put it down stairs to be varnished later. Need to run up to John Deere dealer and get a Home Maintenance kit so I can service my tractor (oil, filter, spark plugs etc.). Might be putting it away after this weekend, from looks of upcoming forecast. Need to change oil in small snowblower too. Few things to put away for winter in garage and bring in my drills and their batteries. Little stuff that needs tending to before the colder air starts moving in later tomorrow night. Saturday looks to be only dry day, maybe, till middle of next week. Rain/snow in forecast by Monday.

But nothing is going to get accomplished sitting here, so best get going. Have a nice day everyone.

Morning Sue. It is a very chilly morning here 39 and predicting below freezing this weekend but with sunshine and high 56. Yup fall is here. After I took the dog out, got my coffee, and now bundled up with my heated throw. Turned the heat up a bit to 64 to take the chill off. I dont see any reason to heat the whole house while I am sitting catching up on the internet. Once I get busy I will warm up for sure. I went over to my neighbors yesterday and it was like a blast furnace in her house, she was dressed in a short sleeve t shirt LOL I looked like Nanook of the North with my hooded sweatshirt and pants on ha ha Thank goodness I just dropped something off or I would have roasted.

My project for today is to clean out my freezer. Garbage comes tomorrow. Mostly stuff that has been in there for a long time. Then rearrange it so I can put more stuff in there ha ha ha I made a pot of soup and want to freeze some. I am making a pot of chicken tortellini soup and like to freeze some of the broth. I dont like to freeze the pasta as it turns kind of mushy so when I pull it out I add the pasta then. The carrots and potatoes do fine being frozen.

I am watching the local news on my very frustrating to set up TV. Was pretty happy to see that work this morning. Didn't try the big tv yet as that was VERY frustrating so as long as I have tv that I can get the locals on I am happy. Have an antenna in my bedroom Roku tv that works well but dont want to lay in bed to watch it during the day. I have just been watching a half hour of local news on my computer since I cut the cord a couple years ago. A half hour is plenty to catch up on local issues and of course the weather. They just keep repeating the same news each half hour so this will work for me. Since cancelling cable, I had the basic plan and internet it was going to be $207/monthly (this was 2 years ago so no telling what it would be now) Then I got YoutubeTV $72.99 so I could still get the network shows. But since the strike nothing really to watch ecept reruns so cancelled that. I have internet, Netflix, Philo and Paramount+ running on a ROKU streaming stick or Roku tv so my total is $90 a month. I got a special on Paramount+ half price so $30/year and it is CBS shows which is my favorite station. I also get CBS on my antenna but it is live so I cant record anything. I dont even watch that much tv, especially in the summer, but the winter I guess I like to watch it a bit more.

Going to get some breakfast then see what I get into. I will start painting my bathroom pretty soon as I am running out of indoor projects so this will be a good project for a while.

Sue, off white. I am going to texture the paint as I have a manufactured home and it has VOG walls. So the lightly textured paint will cover up all the imperfections.

Yea, I have my bathroom back. The "handy man" finally showed up to install my toilet. I wonder if anyone ever hires him again after he has worked for them. Now to get all the stuff in the bedroom floor put up. I have a shelf unit over the toilet that holds a lot of stuff. I have been trying to group like things together so I can use it up and not buy something I already have. I think I have enough soap to last me the rest of my life.

Karen, I have trouble remembering what to do to all the TV's to make them work. The one in my office is the one I watch the most and can switch it to antenna if Direct goes out. The one in the living room was on an antenna but I don't remember how to switch it. There are two different TV's in the motorhome that have to be programed every time I go camping. It's getting harder and harder to remember all this stuff. During the day if I turn a TV on it's usually the weather channel. My son came home one time and we had three tv's on the weather channel. He said we were sick. lol The local channel that I liked to watch the news on has changed to mostly local news. I like to know what is going on in the state so had to change to another channel. I will be like your neighbor, dressed in short sleeves with the heat on. My electric bill went down $97 this month and will probably be lower again until I have to turn the heat on. They keep talking about cool weather but we haven't seen it yet.

I am trying to eat all the leftovers in the refrigerator so maybe I can get the fish tomorrow.

No rain here yet so Sue if you would like to share send some our way:) It has been beautiful here the last couple of days but very windy so the beautiful fall leaves that just turned a few days ago are quickly blowing down. We have pine trees on the far side of the house and the wind was so strong awhile ago they were hitting the windows here in the back room where there are several windows that almost go from ceiling to floor. When the pine cones hit the dogs of course was sure there was a kidnapper about to get us. Took awhile for me to figure out what is was and get them settled.
I've been pulling my hair out trying to fix issues that we thought had been taken care of years ago. While updating our wills with a new person as the lawyer we started with retired, we found out that a few critical updates were missing and that more paperwork was needed. Then we had letters from the long term care health insurance policy we've had since 2003 that the company was being sued and possibly going broke or being sold and we needed to choose what type of action we wanted. Of course it was all 'greek' to me and I had to track down the person we bought it from. Thankfully he is trying to resolve and help us decide. We also are in the process of trying to move our account out of Vanguard to another brokerage and after 4 weeks it is still not complete. I'm trying to determine which company is at fault. So far we have had 3 appointments with the advisor and I've spent 5 hours with the assistant in the company we are moving it to which I think is a big red flag! So much for planning....! DH is keeping my wine supply well stocked. Oh and I went to have blood drawn this morning for upcoming doctors visit and they had to stick both arms while watching a hematoma didn't develop from the first try! All is well but it was a bit unnerving. I think I need to refill my wine glass now.
Martha good to hear your have your bathroom back!

I slept in until noon today because I was up very late with my aching knee. I must have pretty good bones because I fell in Edinburgh 15 months ago and in Rocky Mountain Ntl Park a year ago with no broken bones. The Edinburgh and recent beach fall were flat on my face, and the one at RM was more of a slide on a slippery surface, but in all cases, my knees got the worst of it. Not even any bruises from my beach fall, but both knees are slightly scraped and the right one is really stiff and sore. It works and nothing broken, at least, but when I got out of bed a couple of times in the night, I could barely walk on it. After sleeping more and doing a bit more walking, it got less sore, but if I sit for a while, it will be sore when I get up. No more running anywhere!!!!

At least I got to take photos of the submarine and updated my blog last night.

Good afternoon!

Things happening on here! Karen, our weather is a bit like yours. Mountains did get some snow but none here - only rain as I expected. BJ, your legal and financial situations would drive me crazy! Glad you have your bathroom back, Martha! Whoever did the plumbing design on this place ought to have to live here! The big 'crash' I heard a few weeks ago followed by the sound of water is apparently the flushing from the 2 floors up! I can hear it clear at the other end of the apartment! Beth, I've only had one root canal and dreaded it, but loved the 'laughing gas' and the kind, funny Mississippi dentist!

Still taking care of loose ends little by little. About to get the vacuum cleaner out and maybe the mop.

Martha, I learned from your experience. Anita, no laughing gas here, but didn't need it. Well not for the root canal. I've had several caps that all were easy, but never following a root canal. Martha, I didn't have to go elsewhere for the root canal, but a specialist is in this office and so today's visit started with him. Even the shot to numb me was gentle. So the root canal went easier than I expected. But then a change of dentists for the pole to be put in. New shots for numbing and even the shots weren't as comfortable. But nothing I haven't had before. That said, I'd already learned there was some infection and this 2nd dentist was trying to teach a helper. But had to redo most of what she did. I found him so sweet with her, though. Great teacher and never made her feel bad. But this part of the procedure was the hardest for me. Got it done and the temporary crown on. I've been told by some that some places do the final crown in there office at this point. I followed up online and that's not recommended if any sign or fear of infection, so I'm glad they don't do that here. After my 2 1/2 hour appt I left with an antibiotic (mandatory) and pain meds (if needed). I took one of both after arriving home and will follow through with the antibiotic. Any further pain meds only if absolutely necessary. They don't think I'll have any more pain than I was already having, but you never know. I have an appt in a couple weeks to finish with the permanent crown. Maybe that trip to Mexico I'll do some shopping. Lol

Judy, I hope no more falls to test your luck!!! BJ, lots of no fun stuff. My mail caught up to be today and my insurance on the casita is still showing it has an older roof. I tried to call, because the new roof this past summer should, hopefully, give me a lower rate. I called too late, so will call again tomorrow.

Martha, besides getting him there to do the work, are you at least happy with the job he did? I hope.

Beth, I'm just glad my floor wasn't rotted and had to be replaced. This guy would have taken 6 months to get that done. He came on the 16 and just looked in the bathroom and said he would be back next week. I finally called him on Wednesday when he never called or showed up. He came on the 19 and pulled the old toilet and told me the floor wasn't rotten. He was suppose to have a toilet with him but didn't. He said the local Lowe's didn't have the taller toilets and he was going to call me to order a toilet. When I didn't hear from him by Monday afternoon I went and bought a toilet hoping it would fit since I didn't know how to measure for one. I told him I had the toilet and he said he would be here today. He could have pulled the toilet the first time he came and saved us all a lot of time.

I have only had laughing gas one time and it made me throw up. The dentists we went to 30 years ago are not as good as the ones I have been to now. Dr. Smith didn't care if you were hurting.

I just looked out the front door looking for Frosty and there was a Possum on the front porch. I'm so glad Harold had the bottom of the house bricked in or I would have wildlife under the house.

I was drying a load of clothes and an error message came up on the dryer. Now I have to call about the dryer.

BJ, I have had a Vanguard account for years and they made me move to a Brokerage Account. I'm definitely not happy with them.

I decided to have a legit day off... still in pj's  gave mom her shower that was the extent of doing anything other than reading scriptures crocheting on a pot holder and reading... used up the left over's in the fridge only thing in there is oatmeal and fruit wouldn't call fruit leftovers at least I think that is it... when I made the soup yesterday I used half Italian sausage and half hamburger so have the other half to make some meatballs with... probably should do that tomorrow but need to go to the store... so not sure if the meatballs will happen the meat might get tossed to freezer for another day might think of something else for supper.. have some tomatoes and leftover bacon (forgot about it) so may need to do BLT's oh there is a avocado so guess that will be supper... need to decided if I'm going over the pass on Saturday there is a women's conference in Driggs would like to go but it's at 10:00 which means it's leaving at 9:00 which means mom eats really early or really late... as we usually eat breakfast between 11 and 12 ... I do want to go... it might be weather will declare what I do today it snowed off and on don't believe we are expecting any thing more but that 98 % never happened
glad your bathroom is back in order Martha... it's too bad that it's takes so long to get stuff done... not sure if it is because of the 'time off' that so many had or lack of employee's that is causing so much
Judy glad that you were hurt it's amazing that one can fall and really feel hurt but no bruising then you can bump yourself and the biggest bruise will form..
so Anita will you be moving in a year??? almost sounds like you went from the pan into the fire pit...
you all have a great day

That move is why I decided to switch! They said they couldn't move the accounts to the Brokerage Account for me yet when I called for assistance it took the person 45 minutes to do one thing!! I decided it couldn't be easy. Their entire system changed and I found it difficult to use. I tried to work with a planner there but they cancelled the last appointment with no explanation. But the company I decided on can't seem to complete the transfer. I called them yesterday and they said they would call back in 10 minutes, I've heard nothing yet. I don't know which place is at fault! Maybe the person helping with my long term care policies would be the better choice, he has a company with 72 advisors working for him.

Between Sue with all her tons of energy and projects, Karen with all her complicated TV stuff, and BJ with all her paperwork and legal stuff, I am exhausted reading it all! Glad my life is relatively simple! The least little problems I have to deal with give me anxiety attacks, so I couldn't handle all that other stuff!

I have had laughing gas only once and it didn't do anything for me.

As far as snow in October, when I was in MN, back in 1991 we had the big Halloween blizzard and over 2 days had about 18 inches of snow and temps down to near zero, with high winds! It shut down the whole state for 2 days! Even the plows couldn't get out to clear the roads. So snow can happen in October for sure!

Martha, glad you finally got your toilet put in. Workers are so lazy and irresponsible now days.

Judy, you might have gotten a little banged up, but at least you got that photo of the submarine!! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
