Thurs Afternoon

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thurs Afternoon

Postby Bethers » Thu Aug 31, 2023 1:18 pm

I'm off today, work the next 5. Ran to the store this morning. It's a beautiful day. Love it. No AC needed yet, but so good to know when it is needed later there will be no dripping inside.

Anita, I hope things are still on an upswing with your brother.

Good afternoon ladies!

Beth, I'm so happy you got the a/c fixed. Like you, I don't like getting on the roof of the motorhome. Somehow, it seems to get very narrow when I'm up there. Anita, I really hope things go well for your brother. I hope the ride home with the Sling was good.

I'm still trying to get my brain into the everyday mode. Hurricanes take me totally out of my element, as in not being able to sleep, even though the storm is behind us. This happened to me last year, as well. When we were in MD, our house flooded 5 times, once leaving us with 2 feet of water downstairs. That's neither here or there, but I'm petrified when hurricanes are in the area.

Country ribs are in the crockpot.

I think I now have TWO flies! Still have not been able to get the first one. We need a quick hard freeze to get rid of these.

Spent a couple of hours at the local genealogical center. Did not get a lot of information, but I did get two more resources that I can check out. I am pretty sure that my 2nd great-grandfather's wife, and hence the mother of my great-grandfather, was named Janet. I am pretty sure my 2nd great-grandfather was named Alexander McArthur, so his wife is listed as Janet McArthur in the 1841 and 1851 Canadian census reports for this county. They were born in Scotland and married in about 1830 in Scotland. But you cannot imagine how many women named Janet married men named Alexander McArthur in Argyle!!!! Like at least 6 out of a total maybe 15 marriages in a three-year period. I know Jane and Janet were very popular names in the early 1800s, but why??? Did not one have any creativity??? Anyway, I have eliminated one because that Janet and Alex McArthur are shown in later Scottish census. My next step is eliminate the other extra Janets.

It is a beautiful sunny day here, with no clouds and cool temperatures outside. My big event for this morning was getting up at 6 am and stepping on the plug to my small electric heater as I was stepping out of the bathroom. That caused me to lose my balance and come extremely close to falling. As I was catching myself, I scraped the inside of my upper arm on the little latch on the bathroom door. No bleeding but the start of a big bruise on the inside of right upper arm. I went back to bed after I wrapped the cord around the heater so it was out of way. Need to be more careful about leaving cords out.

Back to fly swatting....

Good afternoon. We have glorious rain falling all day but it is leaving us around 3pm I will take whatever we can get. The good thing is we had a steady rain and of course it always rains harder in the mountains so hope it helps with the fires. Our AQI is 157 so still on the unhealthy side but not as bad as it has been.

Made some chicken thighs in the crockpot, put some gravy and potatoes in to finish it off for dinner. It was pretty darn good. Nothing much else going on in my little world today. Going to just kick back and continue my series on the tv. Very glad everyone seems to have fared well in the aftermath of the hurricane. At least everyone I know.

Judy I did get my ONE Fly this morning. Found my fly swatter and it worked just dandy. Good luck.

actually finished a project the one of hats and scarves for the 3 little ones...all fringed and off the bed need to put the yarn away yet but that will happen soon... took a picture of the scarf I'm making for my niece and sent it to her to see if it's wide enough have not heard back she is not very reliable in returning texts I may call it myself it seems so wide not one that one can tie and through over the shoulder too wide but also not long enough ... so toying with the idea of gasp getting more of this yarn and making another scarf that would be able to tie and toss over the shoulder saw a pattern she actually used the same yarn as I have or her sample... we will see what happens but if one only chains 12 or 14 stitches it should go a lot further...and I still have I think 2 skeins
I also finished my book now on to another one...
it's RABBITS tonight
and I did finally get the threads pulled on the edge of the Swedish Weave to start the fringe need to redo one knot either fingernails too long to work the finer things  or something but will blame it on the nails...never used to be able to grow nails and they were chipping ect so decided to take a biotene supplement and now I do grow nails sometimes they will break above the quick but for the most part stronger and longer...
you all have a great day
