Last Friday of July

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Last Friday of July

Postby Othersharon » Fri Jul 28, 2023 11:44 am

It’s a super hot and humid day for us. I know some of you are experiencing much more but guess it’s all in what you’re used to! Just need to get through the next couple of days and it’s supposed to be more what we’re used to having! Was going to walk this morning but got a phone call that ran long so walk will have to wait until this evening. So meanwhile I’ll be doing things in the house. Nothing much else happening here so will just wish everyone a good day. Stay safe and stay cool.

Moving Friday

Postby BarbaraRose » Fri Jul 28, 2023 11:50 am

Well, not actually moving, but moving stuff  .

Romeow woke me up at 4:30am knocking stuff off my nightstand and creating a lot of noise, wanting my attention for something. Even the water bottle didn't deter him much! Took me over an hour to get back to sleep. :( Then my alarm went off at 6:45. I just kept hitting snooze until 8. Finally got up and discovered Romeow's problem. There was a teeny tiny bit of his bowl showing thru the pile of food in his dish! OMG! He was about to starve to death! What a crazy cat! The last bowl I had for him was clear and I painted it (on the outside) the same color as his food and that didn't fool him at all!

Anyways, I digress... Picked up the van and went to the old storage unit and got that all cleaned out. It wasn't a lot of stuff but with it already around 100*, I was hot and sweaty! So that took awhile due to breaks I took to drink water and cool off in the van. Now I am at home to pick up the stuff from the shed. I am resting and cooling off now. Will eat something and then start loading the bins. I talked to a gal at the storage place and she is moving her stuff out too. They raised her rent a ridiculous amount as well. The new place is a lot closer to me, only a couple miles, so will be more convenient, twice the size and a lot less expensive.

The rest of today, I will spend in the house working on stuff in here where it is cool! Some things in the porch I can bring in the house to go thru, like photos and bins marked "MISC" . Gotta love those!!

Have a good day and stay cool and safe!

Edit: I talked to the security guard at the gate here this morning and he said places are selling like hot cakes here right now! So that is promising! Yay!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Afternoon all, well 2 of you. Got my housekeeping chores done, laundry, pot roast in the crockpot. Had a nurse friend of mine from years ago on her way up to an assignment in WA. We met here in town and then came over to my house. She was going over to the coast last night but I encouraged her to stay here for the night and just get an early start so she did. Always fun to have some company. She left around 8 and has sent me beautiful pictures of her coast trip. She is in awe of our coastline. It is very smoky here today. Mostly from the Flat Fire to the west of us. I could smell it today and it has been going for a few days. Another RV friend lives over by Klamath Falls and they have the Golden Fire that has taken dozens of homes. She was evacuated but is back in her home again, it was spared. She evacuated in her travel trailer with all her pets. I am so happy for her.

Watered the flowers, Henry vacuumed, and I put the guest linen in the wash. I like to do that right away if possible, just in case someone stops by, like last night. Not super hot today only 82 right now and only supposed to get to 85. Had some lunch and a shower. Then had to run my space rent check over to the collection box and pick up my mail. I am done for the day so going to read more on my book. Finished my series on Netflix so will have to find another one to watch. I dont binge watch just a little bit each afternoon.
Barbie glad you are getting stuff done, it will pay off in the end hopefully it will be a quick sale. Beth is still on the move and it seems it is going well. That is always a blessing.

Haha, when I stopped for lunch I merged the 2 morning posts, without even reading them lol. Now I'm stopped for the day. I'm at another city park, $8 for electric and water. I'm really glad for the electric and that there was still a spot open, especially that I didn't have to unhook.

Today reminded me why I don't like having a deadline. So many places I wanted to stop and visit. I'll have to take this route again, slower and stopping and visiting. Might take a long time lol. A couple of the places I really wanted to stop at was a museum on Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz. Then the next town had the Dalton Gang Hideout. There were other places but those really were calling to me.

I have turned my TV on since leaving Arizona, but think I might watch the last episode of season 2 of Joe Pickett. It was on Sunday night. I don't think I see anything on their actual nights lol

Karen, nice that you got to spend time with a friend and convinced her to spend the night. I agree with her about the coast there and I think she got a much better view of it by waiting till morning.

Barbie, you're moving right along. Hopefully you will be next to sell!

Sharon, hot is subjective, as is humid. You have as much right to complain as the rest of us.

Good afternoon!

Well, I finally had an adventure! I took the Sling to my brother. Left in time to catch the 11:05 ferry, but it was full so was on the 11:55. Wasn't expecting that midweek. Got to the Hood Canal Floating Bridge and they had it open for something to pass through - too far back to see. It was a great day for a 200-mile ride!

Brother goes to bed about 4 and gets up at 11 for work so I had a one-on-one evening with my sister-in-law. Their 6-year-old grandson's eyes popped out when he saw the Sling. Pretty sure he gets a ride tomorrow. Yesterday morning my niece brought her 15-month-old son over which was an added blessing. The bus ride back to the ferry and then train station was great. And then the train was hours late! I hadn't eaten so went nearby for fish and chips about 3:30. A little later they offered free Subway sandwiches for us since train was delayed. I turned it down until the time just got later and later! After a tense taxi ride ($45 for about 12 miles), I got home at 12:30 a.m. The kids were going to pick me up, but that's way too late for them. Didn't want them leaving my car at the isolated train station, but I have now realized I could have them leave it at Safeway. Now need to plan the next outing!

Beth, glad your trip is going well - keep it that way, please. I swear I'm going to Port Angeles some time and take it slow with stops along the way. I have a pretty good idea where you are. Barbie, will be nice to have your storage closer. Others moving out sounds like my last apartment. Not sure how many of us have moved here. Sheila, I meant to comment about the little one falling in the creek. That is so scary. We've had so many water incidents and often it is the adults who won't wear life jackets! One guy lost his life over on the Olympic Peninsula kayaking - if only he'd worn a vest! The hot door handles are familiar from summers in Kansas! When I had the Sling serviced, they had parked it in the sun. Mechanic went to get it and I figured the seat would be hot. He brought it and immediately went in to get a wet cloth because the gear shift knob was hot!

Dishwasher going and laundry is next.

Boy, busy people on here today. Hot seems to be the word all over. But like Beth said, it’s subjective. We are in mid 80’s with humidity and dew points up, so makes it feel hotter. Others can have mid 80’s and drier air, a normal part of their climate. For us, we are a bit above normal. Heading back to mid 70’s tomorrow. Wednesday night, due to some rain showers, the humidity was really high. Kind that makes every thing damp  Flowers are loving the rains. But no big storms fortunately. Just a couple rumbly ones the other day.

Had a really enjoyable. Is it with Judy in Mackinaw yesterday. We walked the main drag and I enjoyed watching her spend money
She got everything she was looking for, we had a nice conversation over lunch, some time down by the bridges, but then said our goodbyes. She should hopefully be settled in at the Casino campground in Manistee by now, after stopping to get the new part at the Ford dealer in Traverse City that was on order.

Went down to the craft show in Grayling after I took Molly to the vet for one more eye check. She concurred with me, that the eye is looking better, so now I’m debating as to whether to keep the appt. at MSU. It might just improve in its own as tine goes on, but yet a second opinion might be helpful. Or they come up with the same conclusion. 4 hour round trip at least to go down and back. Craft show was really nice, juried show and some beautiful stuff. Didn’t buy anything though. Tomorrow night is the start of the AuSable River canoe Marathon. 110 teams, the largest in its 75 year history, will hit the water at 9 p.m. and paddle 15-20 strokes per minute, non stop for 120 miles down the River, through the night, portaging over 5 dams to the finish line around 15 hours later. They will be followed by hundreds of fans who will drive from one vantage point to another up and down main highways, dirt roads etc. through the night as well. It is the most grueling race of its type in the world and also the most grueling spectator sport as well. I will follow it live online and by GPS trackers as well. The Pastor of my parish is in the race this year.

Anita, sounds like you had a nice trip, despite a few glitches. Barbie, nice that you are getting things moved and house ready to list. Beth, safe travels. Maybe you can take that route back when you are done in IA.

I also had a good time in Mackinaw city. Got Michigan shirts for me and one for oldest sons birthday. Then puzzles for each son. One was map of Great Lakes and other was Michigan lighthouse.

However I am not in casino. They messed up my reservations, and I will get next two nights free but no availability again. So at another place in Manistee. Will tell you about long story about getting new radiator hose and then having it burst and engine overheat. Need computer so will do it later. In laundromat now.

Addendum - Added to General Area.

Anita, your grandson thinks he has the coolest Grandma ever with the coolest vehicle ever! :D

Judy, you sure have bad luck with RV repairs! Hope they can finally fix your radiator hose issue! How frustrating!

Beth, the times I was driving across country moving from one place to another, I saw so many places I wanted to stop and see but didn't have time to do so. So that is what I want to do with the RV, so I can finally stop to see those things without having to worry about a time limit and having to be on my way to somewhere else right away.

I got the van loaded but boy was it hot and sticky! It feels real humid out and I was sweating buckets! I can only tolerate about 5 minutes in the heat before I have to take a break inside. Got to the new storage place and backed the van into the stall by the door. Luckily, I was going really slow because I couldn't see very well with the mirrors and I backed into a large large steel post! Luckily there was no damage to either the post or the van! Whew! Took awhile to unload the van due to my cooling off breaks! The 5X10 storage unit is a perfect size. Not full at all and I put the long-term storage stuff along one side and the camper stuff along the other side with a path down the middle, so it is all easily accessible. Then dropped the van off and came home. Layed down for a few minutes and then called the office to ask about a For Sale sign for the house. They don't allow regular real estate agency signs so they have their own here to use. So I drove to the office to pick one up. Will have to add more info on the sign since it just says "For Sale" at the top and the rest is blank. I decided since I was already in the car, to go to WM and get a few things. Stopped at Taco Bell for lunch to take home. So now my tummy is full and I am totally wiped out! Need to jump in the shower next and then figure out what I still have time to do tonight. It is already 5pm.

I think my back will be really sore tomorrow since I was lifting a lot of bins, some heavy, today and with the van, I wasn't able to stand up straight in there, so I was bent over in there moving stuff in and out. But luckily, my sciatica never acted up at all. Will need to use my heating pad tonight.

Oh, my agent called and said he checked with MLS about my last listing on there. Apparently, the agents I had last year, never even listed my place on MLS!!! The last listing they show was when I bought it 4 years ago! :o I need to get my place listed on our park website too.

I noticed today while I was at the new storage place that the road going over the freeway was blocked off by police cars. I went by there a few hours later and it was open but then I saw a smashed car down in the large canal (dry right now) getting hooked up to a tow truck. Looked on line and found out the car was stolen and in a police chase and the guy hit another car and then lost control and ended up rolling down the steep embankment into the bottom of the canal. He was injured and arrested.

Also noticed a brown hazy "cloud" coming over the mountains to the west this morning and assumed it was smoke. Sure enough, there is a fire in the mountains that started this morning up there. It is supposed to rain along the coast and mountains this weekend so hopefully that will help. We are in a monsoon system and it sure feels like it!

Off to the shower! Have a good evening!

Everyone was really busy today. Anita, your trip sounded tiring. Barbie, glad you got your things moved. Judy, hope you can finally get your RV fixed.

Anita, we have a lot of water accidents too. Men that have fished all their lives and something happens and they don't have a life jacket on. Lost a neighbor a few years ago.

It was another hot day, it got to 99. Next week we might have two days of 102 temperatures. Very little rain in sight. I watered the roses some this afternoon. I have two pots of mums that almost died and have come back. If I don't water them every other day they start to wilt. This has been the hottest summer since 2000. I was still working then so don't remember how hot it was. I was in air conditioning all day.

My knee feels better tonight. It must have been all the walking at Walmart. I made about 4 laps all around the store. I have been trying to get a fishing license all month and no one is ever in sporting goods. Found someone to page someone but no one showed up. Stopped at the deli and picked up a fried catfish dinner. I decided to go to the Meetup brunch in the morning. Hope I can get up when the alarm goes off. I hate to have to set the alarm.

I do set an alarm for fear that if I didn't I wouldn't wake up till noon and then my day would just be less than it is already... as I set the alarm for 10 and snooze it far too long...
after reading scriptures I started that slouchy beanie should wait and see if I find more yarn though but I wanted to try it looks like it will be easy at least at this point... I've done the first round which is a chain and then the next round is started which is double crochets... it's done following a video we will see what the next round is when I finish the one I'm on...
did finally put it aside and got up and mopped the kitchen it was getting sticky from dribbles of watermelon juice...
bought some soup from the store you know those that are in the plastic cups this was called lemon chicken cousous maybe 1 and 1/2 pieces of chicken I put the soup in mom's bowl asked if that was enough and she said a little bit more so gave her a little bit more... she didn't eat the first little bit... maybe 3 spoonfuls maybe... and half glass of choc milk and she was full...
Cheryl will be stopping by about 11:30 and we will go and do .....
you all have a great day
