SATURDAY AND HOT

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

SATURDAY AND HOT

Postby OregonLuvr » Sat Jul 15, 2023 12:05 pm

Good morning, another hot one for us today and many others I know. I see the temps for the south and southwest, no thanks I will only complain moderately LOLWas 61 when I got up and 74 in the house so turned on the air for a bit and opened the doors and windows. Just closed everything up as it is now 78 out there. Had to get moving and take a shower and get ready for the ear update. I have been good and wearing them in the afternoon and evening. They work okay just kind of difficult to get them in the right spot. One ear seems to fit better than the other but hey I dont know. I have lost the right one a couple of times but knew it couldnt be far so have searched high and low and finally found it. It is the same color as my carpet...I think I need neon glow in the dark aids.

Morning Karen and all. Luckily I was up early and Ty and I got a good walk while there were still some clouds and before we hit 80. I did a small load of laundry, it's already been out to dry and brought in and put away. I'm watching my 3rd TV show (three different "next" episodes. One of the reasons I love Roku. I save the shows to favorites and never remember what day/time they are originally on but check my favorites in the various channels and voila, it tells me which have new episodes.

Now my problem is it's only 10:30 and I want lunch lol. Just did actually. Lol

Good Afternoon. Just sitting here trying not to fall asleep. The after effects of way too much food at our Annual POA meeting and BBQ/Potluck. Was a good meeting, lots of discussion and input. Then nice socialization afterward. We are a small group. There’s about 60 homes around the lake with some of us off the lake on the north side. Only about 3/4 of them are Assoc. Members as it’s not mandatory to join. It’s a mix of second homes and permanent residences. And not all second home ones are here all the time. The ones on the other side of the lake don’t see those of us on this side much, so it’s nice to have the gathering after the meeting. And thry cleaned me out of my chocolate chip cookies I made  happy about that because I didn’t want any leftovers to have to eat them up as I’m trying to stay away from that sweet stuff if I can.

It’s a warm and bit humid afternoon. Been trying to rain, but not much luck. I need to go out and water. Just put a second coat of paint on the round paver stone, my stdtue sits on. Was going to do a might sanding on the statue, but not in mood. So really not doing anything. I started cutting out a couple of outfits for my boy and girl, but using g the thinner plywood wasn’t allowing me to do them right, so abandoned the idea. Wasn’t really into it anyway. Decided to put the Farmers outfits back in at end of the Mo th and make the Fall Farmers ones for Sept. Got lots of compliments in how nice the flowers are doing out there this year.

Barbie, hope your foot feels better today. Careful as others have said. Talking about reading and books a few days ago, got me to thinking of mine. I don’t like reading them online, I want one in my hand.I buy paperbacks as I like westerns and my favorite Author, William Johnstone has new ones coming out frequently, faster than the library can keep up with them. When I’m done with them, they go on my book shelf until I accumulate a stack, then off to Goodwill they go. I just took a bagful up to the library last week for the Friends of the Library Used book sale. Thinking there may be a few more going. I have some here that I moved to my last house, then moved them over here, because I was gonna read them again someday and I never have. So out, because I know I never will.

Guess I go water the posies. You gals Stsy cool in the excessive heat. It’s 81° here. But the humidity is at 57% and I think the dewpoint solo so it’s just a tad little bit muggy but not too bad. There’s a bit of a breeze blowing too. Perfect weekend really

One prediction of 100 degrees here today - we'll see.

Barbie, yes, please use the sturdier stepstool! Sheila, I agree about not giving any more info about jury duty than necessary. Karen, very interested in your hearing aid experience. I've been using the headphones for TV and last night turned on a ball game without them. Sound was understandable but not 'crisp' for lack of a better word. I paused my YouTubeTV subscription and then wanted to watch the baseball home run derby on ESPN so looked for a trial subscription. Fubo has Hallmark which I have been paying extra for (along with other channels) and they have the Seattle sports - meaning baseball games! I need evening entertainment! Had one tired day after shingles vaccine and arm still a bit tender after 3 days.

Have quilting on my mind!

It's up to 98 here. The weather channel says we have a 60% chance of rain tomorrow. Maybe it will be a little cooler. The cats that want out have already been out and back in to nap in the air conditioning. I have made two trips out to get a box of coffee out of the motorhome and forgot what I went for both times. Brought a bag of cat food to the barn and was going to mow a path to the barn. When I got back to the carport I started watering a plant and put water for the cats and forgot I was going to mow. Now that I think about it, I didn't close the gate to the barn.

Anita, I never got into watching any games unless I had a kid in them. I froze enough times watching a football game. My college never has a team good enough to be on TV but sometimes I will watch an LSU football game. If there's one when we are camping you can hear the whole campground shouting.

I use to read a lot but now reading puts me right to sleep. It takes me a week to get through a readers digest. At one time I had a subscription to Ellery Queen Mystery magazine. I don't know if they still publish that. My son called it "Elderly Queen". lol There is a book in the motorhome that I have started so many times and never got very far. It's new every time I start it. lol

Guess I better go mow the path to the barn so I can close the gate. Maybe this trip I will remember the coffee.

Just got back from a day driving around the Detroit area stocking up with food items I cannot get elsewhere. First stop was a specialty grocery for some of their super-garlicky fresh kielbasa. This does not even resemble the smoked polish sausage or kielbasa you get in a very few places outside Detroit. You have to cook it, and it makes a great sandwich. Very popular around big holidays like Easter.

Next stop was for a Awrey Bakery Long John Coffee Cake. This is a very dense and nutty coffee cake that has been made in Detroit since 1910. There used to be a lot of Awrey Bakeries, but now some of their stuff is sold in a few grocery store, but mostly it is only available in the small store connected to their commercial bakery factory in Livonia. Except they were out of what I wanted, but I did find out who might have them and called around. Drove over to store and got two.

Last stop was Mazri Sweets in Dearborn to get a tray of baklava. The store was very busy with families shopping on their holy day. I got a whole tray of 56 pieces for $35, and will share it with my niece and a couple of friends. You can buy pre-packaged gift trays, but I prefer to pick out the kinds I like best--some have walnuts, and others have pine nuts or pistachios, etc. You can order and get stuff shipped also. I did behave myself and passed up the huge counter of French pastries, luckily. You could go nuts in this place: https://www.masrisweets.com/

looks like a sweet overload there Judy... bet they are good.. it's funny what we get used to and have to get when we are where we can find them... Nauvoo at the bakery downtown can't think of the name of it has or had sorghum cookies always go get a bag of them ... in Iowa there is a chip that the family has to get me I don't like them but if I was to go to Iowa and didn't bring back bags of them I'd be disowned  I have one daughter who will order them by the case... and of course my husband couldn't go to Iowa with out his trips to the Maide Rite cafe's there is a ice cream stand in West Yellowstone tht I have to go to...
glad you got what you wanted
glad you weren't hurt too badly Barbie sturdy is always best...
pretty much a do nothing day glad we didn't go out to the ranch found out that the living history people are only there from 10-3 we wouldn't have made it in time... but also found out that they are there Friday thru Monday I thought it was only Friday and Saturday so hopefully will go out on Monday by friend is the person there that day so it will be fun...
Thank you all for your input I hadn't given some of that a thought... if they had "called" me a few years ago I'd go with being there and just spend the month and see what I could in that part of the state... and yes going over the list of what can get you out of it very restrictive ...
you all have a great day

I’ve already packed up some baklava for each of the two friends I am having dinner with tomorrow. I need the right size plastic container to pack up some for niece — meeting her for lunch Friday in TraverseCity. Then I will freeze most of the ones remaining so they will last longer. Their stuff is so fresh and their prices so reasonable it pays to buy a lot and share .

Also got two large boxes of Awrey date nut bars. One will go to other cousin who was my babysitter when I was a child and one to grandkids in Ohio. I think that covers everyone!

Almost midnight here. I did a few things today. I got the mini blinds put up in the one living room window and then the new valance, so those are all done. Then went in my room and moved the bed and cleaned really good underneath it and mopped the whole floor. Tons of cat hair! I hope Sophie is done losing fur now!

Went to check on the water for the cats tonight and one bin is missing and the other one had fresh water in it. There was also a dish of wet cat food that had just been put out that the cats were working on. There is a lady across the green space who feeds the strays too so I think she did all that. I don't know why she removed one of the water bins. I hope she puts it back. I got another bowl and filled it with ice so that will be mostly melted by tomorrow morning and stay cool for awhile for the kitties. They were all laying around on the grass and dirt looking very hot! Poor things! At least there is some shade back there.

We are supposed to stay between 115* and 120* for the next 10 days! :o Ugh!! Glad summer is half over already and we are just now starting to get the extreme heat here. We had a nice 2 month reprieve this year.

Not sure what is on my agenda for tomorrow. I made a list awhile back of what room to clean each day of the week but I never stick to that. I work on whatever I am motivated to do at the time. I figure as long as I am working on something, it is a good thing! :D

Good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
