April 1st - Roll Call!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

April 1st - Roll Call!

Postby Colliemom » Sat Apr 01, 2023 7:47 am

Morning everyone. Another month is here, time to check in if you are so inclined. Always enjoy reading “the news” on here.

Cloudy and 34°. So far no white stuff. Rained last night again. But another night of destruction across the midwest section of the country. Some of those tornadoes were monsters. We had plenty of destruction of here from an EF-3, but it’s incomprehensible, what some areas have. BJ, hope they all missed your area. This wild weather has gotten me to think it’s time to haul out my emergency bag pack and inventory its contents to see if I want or need to add anything else. Then set up my storm shelter in the basement. Remember my post about being prepared in General Talk, well time to prepare. Weather is getting more and more unpredictable. My neighbors around the curve here, have a 5er and I sent them a copy of that post. They went out, bought a pack, may get a second (for each of them) and are now making a list of what they want to put in it. They are going to set up a storm shelter in their homes crawl space as well. So today’s project is going to be doing that. One thing I know that I want to add, is a helmet, either a hardhat or a bicycle helmet as this is not what the weather channel is suggesting that you keep on hand. Need to protect the head. Might never nd the stuff, but it’s there if I do.

Karen, how about posting a picture of your raised bed. I would like to see what you did. Beth, sounds like a really nice job you will be doing. Change of pace from managing stores, motels etc. Great work with the kids too. Shirl, you keep getting more plants, you are going to need another apt.just for you. The plants be taking over your current one

So, off to get busy here. Want to go see a friend/neighbor who got home last weekend from wintering n FL later today. So I will have enough to keep me busy today. Have a nice day all and Stay safe out there.

Morning Sue and All, it’s a windy, rainy, dark 63°. Will be an uneasy day as heavy t-storm predicted with possible stray tornado. Sue, your storm prep sounds like a good idea. I have one more plant on my list then will turn to the challenge of learning propagation. Need to keep learning. All window space is now taken. I banged my arm on the new plant shelf while sitting in the recliner so nudged it a fraction. Martha Stewart would not approve but thankfully she doesn’t live here. Good thing I like cozy. I have a piece of bare scrap lumber laying on two stools in the spare room. The new shelf is much better looking so I bought a roll of wood grain contact paper at Dollar Tree and covered the board. Was a little hairy for a while, thought the contact would win. Lol. Finally turned out nice.Be safe

Morning Sue and all who follow. Not a nice day at all, we are under a winter warning for snow and ice BUT it most likely wont be on the valley floor above 2000ft and I am at 564 so no worries except for the cold. Supposed to start tonight, we shall see. I am going about 70 miles north to meet Laura. Eugene is halfway for both of us and we both have an errand in the area today to do so meeting up for lunch sounded good. And when I go north there are no passes to go over unlike when I go south to Medford there are 4

Sue, I didnt put my raised bed together yesterday as I have to do it outside in the back yard and the weather was not conducive to me freezing to death out there. So will wait for a better day and then I will send you a picture. It isnt fancy and not too big so hopefully it will work just great. I wont go visit any nurseries until much later this month and Mother Nature gets over her tantrums.

I, of course forgot RABBITS, and not an April fools day joke, it is a reality ha ha I am pondering buying a new car as mine will be 14 years old in a couple of months. I just dont know what I want to am cruising the car sites and have visited a couple of dealerships. I know I need an AWD and I want an SUV. Good grief the reviews are mind boggling and the prices even more so LOL

Off to get some breakfast, shower and get on the road by 9.

Good afternoon ladies!

Sue, I like the idea of a hard hat or bicycle helmet. Shirl, I like your idea of the wood grain contact paper on your new plant shelf. Karen, have a good lunch with Laura.

I did say rabbits this morning as I was reading Beth's post from yesterday and she reminded us to say it. The weather yesterday looked scary on the weather map and was thinking of all of you in the path of these storms. It looks like there is more bad weather today, too. Fortunately, our weather is good with temperatures in the mid to high 80's. We need rain. This is a busy time of the year for me with Palm Sunday tomorrow, Easter next week and two weeks after that, our archbishop is coming to visit our church. Three other couples and Steve and I are going to a winery this evening for dinner. They have dinners on Friday and Saturday nights and reservations are required to get in. We've been there many times before but the others haven't are hoping they like it as much as we do.

Please stay safe everyone!

Good morning to all I wrote myself a note to say Rabbits and put it on my bathroom mirror so did remember to say it. Hope it works. We are finally home. Our youngest son who lives in Vegas, flew down to Tucson stayed in hotel overnight and took uber to the RV park then drove us 502 miles home. He then also took all the stuff out of the refrig and freezer. Made sure the furnace and hot water were working and that my car started before he went home. The next day, Thursday, he sent one of the ladies that works for him, he has a maid/cleaning service, over to our place to empty RV and give it good cleaning. She was told we were suppose to stay relaxing. Whenever I went out to RV to get something, she told me to go back inside or Gil, our son, would get mad at her. He really wouldn't. But that was so much help. We are both still recovering from the covid we caught in Arizona. Amazing how is saps your get up and go. It also affected Bill's eyes - he can hardly see so has appointment with eye doc Monday. Hope it is something that can be fixed. One day he could see to drive, read book, computer - 2 days later can't do any of that. Started about same time as covid.
We are both so glad to be home. So any way. RV is empty, clean, smoged - Gil did that too - and parked. Ride home was 500 miles. with lots of heavy wind and some rain and Bill car sick. Don't know what we would have done without son. Just going to catch every one up about us and rest most of the day. Got a Walmart delivery yesterday so don't have to worry about groceries or any thing else.
Watching weather - wow, hope it stays away from everyone. Today in Vegas is the first time it has been average or above for 75 days. Was snowing in mountains again yesterday. And getting more rain and cold and snow by weekend. Unusual.
Time to go do nothing.

Good morning gals!

Carol, so glad you two made it home safely with the generous help from your son! I hope they can figure out what is going on with Bill's eyesight and get that fixed!

Sunny and light breeze here today. Am hoping this cooler trend will continue thru the summer! Not looking forward to the heat!

I missed Beth's post about "rabbits" and didn't even realize it was the 1st today, so I didn't say it. :(

I want to do something fun today without guilt! Not sure what that will be tho. I would love to drive to Joshua Tree or Anza Borrego to see the wildflowers but don't want to use up my gas for that. Prices are back up pushing $5/gln again. I bought a few little things to make some beverage coasters yesterday so will maybe work on that. I always need coasters but they can be expensive to buy (and hard to find, or I forget to look  ).

Hope you all stay safe from the storms! A helmet is a great idea for head protection! Even a motorcycle helmet with a plastic face shield. Most people get injured or killed in tornadoes from flying debris.

Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

It was sunny here until just awhile ago but now it is cold and windy. The bad storms were more to the south of us but some people had trees that fell over because of so much rain. Emma did not want to get off the patio to go potty as it was surrounded by water but a deer strolled by and she managed to run to the fence. I forgot rabbits last night but I seldom remember.
My cousin's son who is a teacher posted a rant on FB today. It was full of racist remarks and spelling /grammar errors. I mentioned to his Mom that he might get in trouble with the school board. He was there and she said something to him. I could hear him saying that he didn't post anything racist! I checked back later and he had taken it down.
I just gave Toby some CBD drops. I noticed he is limping and more grouchy than usual. I probably should give it to him every day as it really helps.
I hope we all get better weather soon.

Carol I just saw your post. I'm so happy you and Bill are home safe. I know you are very thankful for your son helping. I hope Bill is able to get an appointment soon for his eyes to be checked.

I watched my phone last night until 00:00 appeared and said rabbits as many different ways as I could think of : rabbits, jackrabbits, hares, bunnies, Easter rabbit! Son thought I had lost it! Hope it works. Sunshine with few clouds today and supposed to reach 60 again.
It's Church General Conference tody, and first session ended about 30 min ago and was inspiring. Gotta get chores done and see what else I can get into. I'm on a 10,000 step streak, so will fit in, hopefully 2 walks of 30 minutes. Decided my pre-Covid walking shoes are giving out as I've noticed feet and knees not tolerating distances as well. New pair ordered and Amazon will deliver next week. I'd love to shop local, but when I can get on Amazon for $159.00 what local Fleet Feet wants $230.00, sorry FF but I go with Amazon. Only Brooke Ariel's support my gait and keep my knee pain gone. I'd rather spend $159 a pair on shoes than copays for Drs, surgery, PT, and RX for pain. It was my Nurse Practitiner about 15 yrs ago who I asked to evaluate my knee pain, who picked up my beat up tennis shoe and said, I'm writing you a RX- go to Fleet Feet, let them evaluate your gait and put you in better shoes! Then toss these in trash. I went from her office straight to FF and cringed at spending nearly $100 for a pair of Ariels! Literally 5 hrs later, my knee pain was gone, and only gets aggravating if I let shoes wear down and or don't rotate them properly, letting the padding recover at least 48 hrs. So, yes,I have over $1000.00 worth of shoes- but, it's in 5-6 pairs of Ariel's that I rotate each day. And can tell when they are too old by how my knees react.
Grass is practically visible in its growing out back! Hopeful handyman will have time soon to ride my mower over it! It's a baby jungle out there!
Have a good weekend everyone!

Hello Everybody. I’m checking in from the hot springs pool at the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado. I left Kino Bay on Monday, March 27 and said good bye to the beach until next October. Flying home from Denver on April 5th. I am so ready to be home.
Carol, so sorry to hear about the problems you had, but happy to know that your son is able to help and is so capable. You are blessed. Here is wishing Bill a full recovery to good eyesight. Enjoy today. Peggy

Hi all,

Just checking in to say Hi.
Been super busy between the baby, French class & the contract work.

Tina, I followed your lead & when they sent the contract for next quarter, I told them I'd just continue for a little longer. I'm helping to test their updated website which will go live in mid-April so I want to continue to help them out until then. They understood & my guess is once this testing is done, additional work will fade away.

And kudos for this forum. In French class we are studying forms of media - including social media. We had a film that explained how addictive social media is & how hard it is to break away. Then we had to write a paragraph on how we use social media. I was proud to mention our forum (not by name though)- which has stayed true over time to the initial concept of social media. No advertising, no politics, just women sharing with each other who have become friends overtime. So congrats to Beth & others who keep this thing going. This is what social media should be.

That's it for now - I've got to get back to my homework.
Take care,
Catherine

Spent most of today walking around Santa Fe, but I am incredible tired tonight. I did my usual not eating until around 2 pm--need to really do better and eat before I go out somewhere. So, not only did my legs and back ache, but I had a headache. Most importantly, I usually carry a tiny container in my purse or fanny pack with some Aleve or something a bit stronger, but I left it in my purse in my motorhome, and it was too far to walk back. I need to set up two tiny containers with Aleve in it.

Anyway, I added some water to my tank for tomorrow and packed away my hose and outdoor sign that says the campsite is occupied. I am headed tomorrow to Los Alamos to stay in the parking lot with electric hookups next to the visitor center in nearby White Rock. I want to visit some museums and this will be much more convenient than having to drive all the way from here. Might even try taking Ubers if they are handy. I have stayed in this place before, and it is basic but as long as I have electric and a nearby water source and dump station, I will be happy. Close to stores, also.

Been thinking about the emergency packs. I know most of us have family things we want to save, so I think it is important to keep all of that stuff in one place instead of tucking it here and there, as I am guilty of doing.

my excuse today for not doing anything is watching General Conference was wonderful... and saw green grass and blooms on Temple Square what a treat :o
I'd read on FB that Carol and Bill were home that is so nice and what a help your son was... not to mention his employee... I really hope that the eye issue is a short lived thing...
my fudge filled bars are ok but I think I put to much oats in it... I might need to start using another bowl to measure it in... it's not a bad taste just crisper than I've had in the past... what I get for doing another half batch
I did RABBITS at midnight.....
just sad to hear of all the destruction going on due to weather there was a small city in Uruguay that had a land slide bury a good portion of it...so sad
I don't do the April Fool's tricks either but did get a chuckle out of one that I saw... we have a "famous" bear from what I understand she even has a FB page... anyway it was a "photo" of 399 walking across the white snow with 9 COY now that is outstanding even for 399 who usually has triplet's or quads she is now 27 years old for a griz an old lady so the big question is will she come out of the den and if she does with any or ??? but it did make me chuckle
had BLT's for supper at least I did... mom had 2 pieces of bacon and a bite of toast
hope you had a fun day Karen
and Shirl I'm with you that new plant I bought have no idea where to put it ...
you all have a great idea

Judy, where did you get your "occupied" sign?

Sheila, I also saw that report about the grizzly mom seen with 8 cubs in tow! Funny April Fools!

I got my sign about 7 years ago from Amazon, and I paid about $15 for it then, but I looked on Amazon and they don't seem to have it anymore, other than a really expensive version. You could buy a sign that has printing on it and using a can pf spray pain to get rid of wording.

I bought a sign without wording and then tried to paint on it what I wanted it to say, but it turned out messy, so I cleaned off the paint and bought some plastic letters from Michaels and used those instead.

Just found another company: https://www.visualworkplaceinc.com/prod ... ign-blank/

Note that the ones above are corrugated plastic, so they might blow away. I put mine over a small stool I keep for outside projects. I did a search on a-frame signs
