Wednesday March 29

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Morning All, 48° and sunny. Karen, I hear you. there is only so much gloom you can tolerate. The same can be said for the opposite. Suppose to reach 55° today so will work on the balcony. Since I can’t tolerate the humidity when it comes will rearrange the bistro set. Move it closer to the railing, set the pot if tulips on the table and use the chairs to hold flower pots. I have one yellow tulip blooming. I’m smiling. I heard water running outside this morning. Crazy bird woman had a hose hanging over her railing and water running down. Wasn’t coming on my balcony but maybe the tenant below. Have no idea where she is attaching a hose in her apartment. Wish Bill could fly his drone up above me so I could see what she is doing. Lol Shelia that is a good idea about using netting, thanks. Beth, glad you are settled. Bj, good luck with the new computer. At least you will be occupied and not hanging in bars. Have a medical appointment, oh happy days. Be safe.

Good Morning Shirl and all who check in later. Shirl I so miss hanging out in bars! We always had great places to go that had bands almost every night and I loved to dance. If you ever see the bird woman you should ask about her 'garden' and how to attach a garden hose because you want to get one.
My search today is for a new printer. I don't want a really big one but would like it to scan. If anyone has a recommendation I would welcome it. I did get in touch with Frontier after many tries yesterday. I called the number on my bill and wanted to talk to a service person. By the time I went through all the options I finally got a message that you had to call a different number. Finally I got a person who spoke with a definite accent but we both were patient and are now best phone buds. Egan is going to call me on Friday to be sure my new modem arrives. Mine is so old he said just throw it away no need to return. I think what companies want is for everyone to contact them online.
Beth glad you have arrived and you were able to get your electric working.
The sun is out and I have a massage today which makes me very happy.

Good Morning…would you believe, my Christmas cactus has a beautiful bloom! Only one bloom on entire plant.
One of my cardiac meds has effected my eye. Singular. So when I went to optometrist she discovered I needed one new lens. I was told, two weeks. After three weeks I hadn’t heard anything. So went to see what the trouble was. They apologized all over the place, said this “special “ order takes four weeks.
The day several people were reminiscing was a very special read. I was “on the road” for16 years, it brought back many fine memories for me. Of course all I remember are the good times. That is what I miss, not the problems that occur when living in an RV!
This basketball season is ending with many exciting games. Both the men’s and women’s. The Padres season opens Thursday. Weather is expected to be cloudy and rainy! Women’s soccer season has started, plus softball. So I am spending much time watching TV. ( don’t clean house ant more as it exhausts me)

Nothing much happening here. Ty and I went for a morning walk and I discovered a beautiful blooming cactus. Of course I didn't have my phone so we might have to go find it again later. I didn't see any visitors out and about. We're only open 9-5 Mon through Sat and it was after 10. I figure we'll plan a nice walk after 5 when we'll have the place completely to ourselves (most help will be gone then, too). I'm trying to be good and take my walking stick as there's lots of unlevel ground. We came across some brick stairs with no railing and it made that a breeze, too. The idea of falling scares me now. They have one volunteer that works winters who has been coming several years now. She's turning 80 this year. I am inspired by those before me and Lyn you are one that has always been an inspiration. And Sparkle who I'll always miss. I'll have to set my alarm tomorrow, get Ty walked and be on time for work!

Good morning gals :D

Today is my daughter's 22nd birthday. I have a card for her but haven't sent it yet. I haven't seen her now for 5 years. I am not even sure if she gets her birthday cards since I have to send them to her parents house and I don't really trust them to give them to her. But I send them anyways... It is a bittersweet day for me. :(

I found out yesterday that the temp service doesn't really have any open positions even full-time for cannabis jobs. They are just advertising so they can get a list of people to call when jobs come available! Nothing available now. I need to start working pretty soon somewhere.

Need to get my laundry and dishes done today. I made brownies the other day and I apparently got some bits of egg shells in the batter because they are a little crunchy! I need to crack the eggs into a separate dish and pick out any shells first before adding them to the batter. The brownies are very good otherwise!

I need to figure out how to seal up my bedroom windows for the summer. They are definitely drafty around the edges and thin (single pane). I will also have to put covers on the skylights again. I don't have access to the neighbors ladder this year so will have to find another one to use. Maybe Dave has one. With the HOA dues going up by $55 per month and my electric going up due to the heat, it will be an expensive summer if I don't try to do some insulating in here. For now, the weather is still cooler than normal. I had my window open all night last night and it felt nice!

Have a good day!

Beth, I just googled where you are at. It is also a botanical garden and nature center. ("Research Institute" doesn't quite conjure up images of that). Looks like there are a lot of great hiking areas and cool geological things to see and interesting history to learn about. Even a hummingbird trail! You should have fun there on your time off. Do they allow dogs on those botanical trails? Looks like a very interesting place to volunteer! You should really enjoy that! I know I would!

Barbie, I am ordering a box of this for my rear window because the cold wind blows through the weep holes and the cracks around the window. Might do it on another window as well. It has been extremely cold lately, and I cannot find this product in stores because winter is supposedly over, but I have used it before. You just put the included double-sided tape on you inside window sill and then stretch the film onto the tape. You use a hairdryer to tighten it up. https://www.amazon.com/Duck-10-Window-Insulator-420-Inch-286216/dp/B002GKC2GW/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3V25QQW6FT8FN&keywords=weather+proof+window+film+winter&qid=1680143848&sprefix=window+film+for+winter%2Caps%2C375&sr=8-4

They also make a silvery UV and heat blocking static cling film, but you need to read the instructions carefully, as many of the brands cannot be used on double-pane windows. And some is used inside and some outside, so check it out carefully. ACE hardware stores are really good about answering questions about stuff like this. Also, you really only need it on south-facing windows.

Also, there is no reason to stop collecting social security when you get a full time job. Yes, you will have to pay taxes on some of it, but not all of it, depends on how much money you make. Also, any money you make while retired will increase your monthly amount in future years. It might be helpful for you to go into an office and discuss this in person with someone. And how about a receptionist job of some sort? That would also be a sitting job, and there should be lots of those around in offices.

Today was the first really nice day in a couple of weeks, so I went into Santa Fe and visited two museums. Will be posting photos late tonight. Even took my sweatshirt off today outside!!

I’ve read to use bubble wrap to temporarily insulate windows. Spray water on window and the bubble wrap will stick.

It has been cool yesterday and today. I finally had to turn the heat back on. It will be back in the 80's tomorrow. I went to town and it rained on me a little. I stopped at the vet's to pick up Sugar's medicine. I had ask him about sun screen for Frosty's ears several weeks ago and I though he had forgotten about it. He said he can't find any sun screen for cats. Frosty wants out first thing in the morning and it would be a major fight to keep him in the house all day. I'm sure I could get him to wear a bonnet. lol

I ask at the hardware store if the guy that works on mowers had ever gone back to work. Now they have someone new working on mowers and he only works in the afternoon. I have left my name and phone number at least 4 times and still haven't heard anything.

Barbie, maybe you could call the cannabis place you worked before and see if maybe they might have part-time work sometimes.

They are closing the East bound lane of I-10 in Lafayette again for repairs. The last time I went over I-10 the traffic was stopped as far as I could see in both directions. There is no telling how many accidents that is causing.

I still haven't made cookies. I think about looking for the recipe when I'm in the kitchen and see the cake mix. By the time I get to the computer I forget.

Judy, we stopped at Santa Fe years ago in our trip to the Grand Canyon. I really did like the town. We went to a museum somewhere around there.

we have a funeral on Saturday for a previous member of the church here... when her husband needed more help they moved in with a dd then when he passed away she moved to Utah to be close to I think a son she passed away and the funeral will be here signed up to make cookies or brownies almost forgot not sure what made me think of it... now to decide what to make cookies??? which one??? brownies??? the regular??? or the banana ones??? so many decisions to make... will need to make them no later than Friday so tomorrow will have to make a decision it might depend upon ingredients... was leaning toward the banana brownies but the banana's aren't really ripe have some frozen but and does it have sour cream ??? sorta think it does if so don't have enough... I think the others I have the ingredients there is a bar cookie that my sister in law makes that is yummy that sounds good as well see the problem???
as to the strawberries hadn't thought of frozen ones wouldn't they get mushy after thawing??
in this area we don't really have the climate to allow us the opportunity to have really fresh items our season is so short and this year it might even be shorter... the strawberries that we get seem to be more like you mentioned Barbie I would imagine that the reason there is no berries is weather related... I typically keep some cheese cut and crackers handy there is shrimp in there I will need to let her know that she can munch on them forgot to tell her last night will need to stuff some celery didn't make any for supper and she ate more...
Barbie I've seen something advertised that you might look into I think its called Relief and it sounded like found in most places a cream for the nerve that gives you issues...
that area sounds like a really pretty area from what Barbie said Beth...
Shirl that might be a good idea if you could meet your upstairs neighbor might be able to water easier..
you all have a great day

Martha, I'd really like a video of your putting a bonnet on a cat! With holes for ears, no doubt!

My younger cat got a kitten while he was in college. He moved with the still young kitten into an apartment, and he used the toilet and then got up without immediately putting the lid down. Kitten tried to jump up to the sink but landed in the toilet. Son said both he and the cat took an immediate shower. Apparently, the cat was so traumatized that she did not even fight it, including the shampooing!

We need photos!!

Judy, I used that window kit with the hair dryer back in MN every winter to keep the cold air out. I was thinking of using it here but my windows in the park model are set funny so I would have to put the tape on the wall around the whole window which would enclose the blinds and curtains inside the plastic too. I could use the tinted film since my windows are single pane. Will have to figure out what I can do that will work best.

Martha, I did call the pot place I worked at before and the gal I talked to said she didn't think they had any openings but would check, so she took my name and number. I did tell her I worked there before. I don't know if anyone I worked with is still there anymore. I know three of them are not, for sure.

I called Great Clips about getting paid for my accrued sick pay (CA requires every employee to get 24 hours per year of sick pay) but they won't pay me for it. I have always gotten paid for it when I have left other shops, but it is not required for them to pay it out, so I am SOL on that too. I was hoping I could use that for the second half of my property taxes. :(

I ordered some Stop Leak for my radiator and am hoping that will work, at least for awhile. Should get that on Friday.

Little bit of trivia: my grandfather and his brothers actually invented stop leak way back when. My grandfather was trying to invent something else but ended up with that instead (or so the story goes). They went around selling it throughout the midwest to gas stations for many years. Even my dad's cousin from Moline, IL traveled all over with his young family, and would stay at a KOA just north of us with their travel trailer, while he drove all around MN selling it. We would go spend time with the kids at the KOA when they were there or they would come to our house to swim in the lake. My dad always had one of those super large mayonnaise jars in the garage filled with stop leak to use when we needed it. Unfortunately, the brothers never had it patented so it was eventually made and sold by other people.

It has been cloudy, cool and extremely windy all day today and still tonight. Storms are moving thru Los Angeles and the coast so we might see a little rain tomorrow here, or not.
