Storm Warning Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Storm Warning Saturday

Postby Colliemom » Sat Nov 19, 2022 9:13 am

Good Morning on this chilly going to get windy Saturday. 18° with a real feel of about 13° out there right now.. Forecast is calling for heavy snow and winds gusting to 35, so we are under a winter storm warning starting at 1 p.m. this is not a winter storm, this is Lake effect. It has been pummeling the northern and western side of the lower Peninsula since Thursday. Some areas have picked up 24 inches of snow since Thursday. It depends upon the wind direction as to who is getting hit the hardest. Where I am here, the winds have not really been favoring us too much, so we have probably gotten about 6 inches. But because our temperatures have been around freezing, it’s been fine wet snow, which does not accumulate like the drier fluffy lake effect some areas are getting. But it sounds like today that’s going to come to a screeching halt because the winds are supposed to favor this area and we may see as much as a foot of snow. Yesterday we had a winter storm warning too, but the winds did not develop and it turned out to be a fairly nice day. Sure many of you have probably seen on the news that the Western edge of New York is also getting hit very hard.

So will be a good stay in day. Need to do some dusting and continue the woodcraft project. Decided to make some changes on the big ornaments I did last year that turned yellow over the summer. I decided that putting the Grinch on one would be kind of cute  So will make the Christmas tree shape with the ornaments again like I did last year as everybody liked it and having some different ones will change it up. This is last years.

Karen, I am sorry about your cousin. I must have missed that post someplace and then I saw that Anita had mentioned it. I lost my last month too. Bath, what will your future plans be? Are you not going to work anymore? I guess you have a saw curious now  Martha, those cats sure do get well taken care of. Barbie, congratulations on getting the house listed. Hopefully it won’t take too long to sell. You are going to have to start getting out and look at around for your home on wheels pretty soon.

Guess I had better get dressed and get off to the dusting so I can get back to my painting projects. My workbench in the basement is covered with cut outs that need to be glued together and also I need to be vanished with this new vanish I got. So I have enough to keep me occupied for a while. Have a nice day everyone.

Good Morning, Love the photo Sue, I think a Grinch would be a good idea. It is cold here too 22 with feel like temps of 10 yuck!!! Thankfully though we have no snow and it is supposed to start to warm up tomorrow and be in the fifties next week. The cold weather and my trigeminal neuralgia is not a good combination. I've been staying in a lot or else wrapping my face carefully to go out. I was doing better but have lost six pounds with a recent flare. Yesterday I had a friend come for hypnosis/reiki and it went well. I have really missed working with people in person. Since I don't like to cook and this person does we settled on a barter system for payment. I really don't like to charge but I understand that most would rather pay so this seems to be a good solution in this situation.
Barbie I'm glad to see you have your house listed. I know you are happy to have everything organized. Now the fun of finding your new home begins. I hope you find something perfect. Beth I'm not surprised to hear you are unsure of returning to the motel work.

Another cold damp foggy morning.............sounds like a broken record. Maybe I will just start saying "ditto". 26 this morning, we have warmed up to 30 ha ha ha I am staying inside today unless the sun peeks out this afternoon, we just never know. No snow here. Sue better batten down the hatches. Sue do you ever just sit down and do nothing LOL LOL I seriously doubt it. Send me some of your motivation please.

BJ I have gained 15 pounds so now I am 35 from my original weight before getting sick. I have slowed down my eating tho and making better choices since I am not trying to pile on some pounds now. Got my stamina back but lost motivation today LOL I am in my recliner, having second cup of coffee, listening to the tv while searching the internet for some new recipes. I am going to make crepes this week. Found out I dont need to buy a crepe pan, which is good I am running out of space LOL Never made them before but I have enjoyed the couple I have had.

Morning Sue and All, very cold and sunny. I just uncovered balcony garden. Plants are hanging in there. I’m not complaining about the cold brcause it is such a relief to be able to breathe. Thought I would be considerate and texted #2 daughter she could bring Christmas bins whenever it was convenient for her. I was thinking sometime after Thanksgiving. She brought them yesterday and I wasn’t ready. Not only that but the tree box was not completely sealed and a bunch of stink bugs nestled in the branches. So a frantic twenty minutes as we tried to get them all. The nox and tree parts spent the night on the balcony because daughter said they would die from the cold. Hope so because I plan to set the tree up today and get these bins out of my way. I guess necessarily is a motivator. I haven’t made Olive Gardens gnocchi soup yet. I did find a recipe for creamy chicken kale and gnocchi which sounds like a keeper. You can freeze gnocchi, they are a little healthier than pasta so what’s not to like. Lol Need to rearrange furniture to accommodate the tree so best get started. Be and stay warm

Karen, 30 doesn't sound very warm. lol It's 47 and raining and suppose to rain all day. I'm glad I got the outside cats fed before it started raining. Hope I can just stay home today. I think I have been to town almost everyday this week.

Sue, I wish I had your ambition. I can manage to do almost nothing every day. Love your decorations. I saw the metal 4' Santa in the old house and thought about putting him in the front yard but he would look so lonesome. I usually take him to the Christmas campout. I had a doormat that played Christmas music but it got wet and quit working. Our Christmas campout is December 1 which will be here in no time. I think we have about 70 women going. This year's gift exchange is a basket and dishtowel. I think I'm going to pass because I sure don't need anything.

I have ants in the kitchen again. They managed to get in a ziplock bag that had crackers in it. Back to the Terro. I wish they would fix their bait trays so they don't leak. Every time I try to open one I spill it. The ants will be moving back up the hill with this rain.

Karen, , I have been sitting down most of the day. But with a paintbrush in my hand  I am enjoying just painting on those woodcrafts.
It’s been snowing lightly here and was coming down pretty good for a little bit. I just got a CodeRed alert from the county Emergency Management service, stating that we have a Winter Storm Warning in effect till until 7 o’clock tomorrow morning which I knew. 6-10 inches of snow, some areas possibly more, blowing, drifting, zero visibility etc. etc. so I sit and paint and watch.

CodeRed is our counties emergency warning system. In the vent a warning is needed such as the tornado, severe storms, Winter storms, Amber alerts or whatever, they will set off your cell phones with an alarm and give you the necessary information to take whatever action is necessary. They also will send out emails too. You need to be registered to that service and most of us are.

This the one sent out today

WINTER STORM WARNING
This is an alert from CodeRED Weather Warning. Moments ago, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for your North Shore Drive location from 1:00 PM November 19 until 7:00 AM November 20.

13 degrees when I got up - now up to 23. Karen, I've had to go out during these cold temps and finding it's not as bad as I expected - especially if the sun is out. Usually just a hoodie for a jacket. It is a beautiful day again. Appreciated after all the dreary days last winter.

Sheila, I had to look up where that Maple Valley movie was filmed - outside of Vancouver, Canada! Shirl, I have the containers from the garage in my way, but going to spend today sewing. Kids have a storage closet that I'm making a door curtain for so nothing fancy.

We have a single sheep roaming around Leavenworth. :) People are posting on the town FB page with pictures and location.

Son-in-law has family that live somewhat off the grid in old RVs or whatever. His niece thought there was a propane problem, turned off the tank (she thought) and then lit a cigarette! Burns on her face and RV destroyed.

SUE!!!! That does not count LOL You are still working. BJ yes I lost 50 lbs, that is what happens when you are too sick to eat....dang Well I am fine now but still going to watch what I eat most of the time. So far I think I am holding right now. I wanted to lose 15lbs but this was a pretty drastic way to go. I was also trying to be a minimalist and my house burnt down, again pretty drastic. SO, be careful with your ambitions LOL

Anita if the sun is out it just doesnt feel that cold but our fog is so damp so feels colder. WOW sorry about the RV and niece's injuries. See, smoking is hazardous to your health ha ha

Omg, Anita, that's scary. I'm glad she's not hurt more. And I love checking where many of the movies are filmed.

Ty and I finally made it into the desert this morning. I had a warm jacket over a sweatshirt. The Arizona sun did it's thing and an hour later I was overdressed as long as we were still moving. He's been napping for quite a while now lol

I'm truly enjoying my time at the Casita, even though I'm making notes of more things I want to do if I decide to keep the place. Today I decided I want my porch area screened in. So the list keeps growing lol Things like this explain my thoughts of working one more season at the motel. But my mental health (and possibly overall health) have me thinking it's time to retire. I would love to continue to do short term workamping now and then possibly, especially when going all the way across country, but that's not definite either. I haven't yet informed the owners I'm not returning but I can say I'm more and more sure I'm better off not. So in the next week or so I'll make the final decision. I'm looking forward to my few months back in Texas, relaxing, birding, etc.

Visited Carol's Wetland today, but did not have enough time. Very nice place, so I will spend more time there when I get back from Ohio in a few days.

Got up at 4:30 am Pacific time to make a reservation at Heaton Bay Campground in Colorado. Except I forgot that the sites don't open until 10 am EST, so went back to bed for an hour or so, and then got up again at 7:30 am!! This is an extremely popular campground that is only about 1.5 hours west of Denver, plus it is on a very long bike trail overlooking a lake/reservoir. Can also ride bike a mile or so into Frisco, which is nice. Good discount with federal senior pass, but as I say, very hard to get into. Today was first day sites were open for the spring season, so they were all gone in 5 minutes!!

Been busy arranging things with my aunt since she got released yesterday. At 92, the flu really knocked her out. She is very weak and tired, so I have a 24-hour private aide for a few days, and we have to get her a wheelchair. Other POA is handling that for me. They would have put her in a nursing home for a few days, but that would be too confusing with her dementia, so she is better off where she is at the memory facility but getting some extra care. May decide on Monday to do only daylight hours, but we will see. She was very happy to be home.
