Mid April Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Mid April Saturday

Postby Colliemom » Sat Apr 16, 2022 7:51 am

Good Morning on this chilly, cloudy, 28° Saturday morning. Winter refusing to let go and still peppering us with snow showers. Had some yesterday, supposed to today as well. At least the strong winds have moved east. I’m sure Rita and Rosemary are tired of this too.

Was interesting reading the posts yesterday about tiredness and how many of us, myself included are experiencing it. After thinking about it for awhile, I think it can be summed up in one word: Stress. Whether we realize it or not, we are all under stress and our bodies are reacting to it. We’ve been through a lot in this country these past couple years. Covid, it’s ongoing variants, deaths, vaccines, lockdowns, illnesses etc. Political turmoil, the Sociological changes in this country, Weather extremes, the Russian/Ukraine war, now inflation and it’s rising prices.
Stress leads us to eating more carbs and junk food which leads to wright gain, which leads to flab our bodies have to carry around. Vicious cycle

Some days this recliner feels too comfty to get out of, but I make myself get moving. Tina, I know what you are saying about dog walking. I love walking, but this winter there have been dsys when I wouldn’t have gone if not for the dogs, especially Molly. Some days I don’t want to go that far but I push on, as I know that is a treat and highlight of their days. I like many of us, wake up during the night and can’t go back to sleep. Another reason for tiredness. I haven’t been anywhere for the past year, except for maybe a day trip once in awhile, as I just don’t feel like going anywhere. I think it goes with getting older, as we get comfortable with our surroundings. But I know I need to break that chain and go someplace for awhile for a change of scenery, mental and physical rejuvenation. I know the next nice mild, sunny spring dsy we have, it’s time for a ride to Mackinaw and a walk alng the water by the bridge enjoying the scenery while the dogs check all the new scents. Their noses are very busy.

But for today, it will be craft work and then tonight will be heading for the Easter Vigil at church with my neighbor. There will be a dog walk thrown in as well. So I’m going to wish you all a nice day. Stay healthy and safe.

Saturday April 16

Morning All, sunny, cooler and I don’t know what the temperature is because I’m tired of checking. Petals are starting to fall from tulips. I do have a beautiful geranium though. No happy bird chatter in the mornings but Moe and Floe are still here. I think they are whispering. Looking forward to Easter dinner at #1 daughters and I hope son-in-law apple pie. Martha, the snackle box made me hungry. I saved the picture for future use. Would be a good birthday gift for my fisherman son. Be safe

Shirl, thank you for the image of whispering birds. I will ponder on that for today and listen to find some whisperers in my neck of the world. Your poetry makes me smile.

Good afternoon,

Cloudy but trace of snow hasn't appeared.

Sue, I relate to the stress. I was doing so well with the treadmill and then the phone mess happened. It wasn't until we moved to a temporary home before Steven retired that I didn't feel I had a million things to do. I started watching calories, weightlifting and treadmill - worked wonders a quarter of a century ago! After Steven died, a trip to the grocery store meant I deserved a 'treat'. I am back to healthier eating and the treadmill starts again Monday. You've probably all seen the dog leashes with an invisible or imaginary dog - wonder if that would motivate me.

Shirl, are those birds gossiping about you? :) Dinner will be at the kids' tomorrow. I'm in charge of the broccoli salad and the wine. The salad along with fresh veggies to prepare for salad, snacks, etc. here will keep me in the kitchen awhile today.

The wind is horrendous here again today. It makes walking short distances difficult. But I've gotten Ty out waking twice and I'm hoping the next walk the wind will be better. The wind has helped me damage my screen door. I can't hold the door open without it slamming. I have bruises I can show! The other day i caught my arm on the edge of one of the screens and I noticed today the little area that was pulling out after that had stretched most of the length of that screen. I'm not doing anything for it until the worst of the spring winds are over.

I survived the first open day of the motel and enjoyed talking to the guests at continental breakfast even though I grumbled getting out of bed.

I, too, get tired easier and have less energy. But I'm better when I'm working as I have to move and do things. Abs somehow I forget about it while busy. Then real down times come along and I could drop to the ground lol

People here are still bothering me more than I like to admit. Individually they are fine, but it's hard top even suggest change to most of them, even whenit's the owners charges. There are bets being taken regarding the housekeeping/maintenance couple that are newest this year. I think I mentioned the owners hired them even though they'd need most of June off. At our start of season meeting they said, no, we need June and July off. Now i would never have hired them needing one of the busiest months off but I had no say. I get along with both of them, but they've caused problems with everyone else. So the betting is whether they'll come back or not. If i bet it'll be that they don't make it until June.

I've never done well on treadmills but many years ago I got a machine that was almost like skiing and I was good about using it. It didn't bother my knee (they I broke once upon a time) or my hip. And I didn't hate it like I did the treadmill. I gave it away when I went full-time. I think maybe it was an elliptical machine.

Beth, Steven had a Nordic Track ski pro. Can't remember if it was ankle or knee, but I couldn't handle it. Treadmill isn't thrilling so I have a very upbeat playlist. :)

Sorry about the workers! June probably can't come soon enough if you are off to this start. I'm hoping the family that moved in last month gets their house built quickly because they have turned this quiet haven into anything but!

Beth, hope you get your help straightened out.

Yesterday I walked to the first curve and back which is about a half mile. Today I made it twice. So far my foot is ok. The Sketchers with the arch support are working with the extra pair of arch supports. The tread mill is so boring to me. I would rather walk on the road. Harold had a Schwinn Airdyne bicycle and he rode it as long as he could. When our old house flooded that was the only thing he took out and washed it at a car wash.

I wonder if the Walmart Pharmacy is going to be open tomorrow. I should have ordered Sugar's prescription. I'm suppose to go camping on Tuesday and the last time I filled the prescription they had to order it. I don't know where my head is some days.

Another night of nothing on TV. I don't know how there can be so many channels and nothing I want to watch.

Was a quiet day today but interesting people watching at WM! Young people from the Coachella Fest coming in for supplies. The festival is pretty well-known for crazy outfits and costumes. In the afternoon, I saw 2 tall gals probably around 21 who came in each wearing see-thru netting shorts with bling on them, and thongs underneath! They sure got everyone's attention! WM has really stocked up on coolers, bags of ice, beer, tequila, and other liquors, and cases of all these are on pallets all over the store!

The traffic is bad around here, and there are tons of tour buses all over bringing people in for the festival. This goes on for 2 weekends and then it is followed by the Stagecoach Festival which is the country music version of this one. There are no Covid restrictions for either festival so will be interesting to see if we get a rise in cases here in the next month. I am still wearing my mask at work every day and in all stores I go into. I need to get my next booster shot soon.

The wind died down this morning but is really whipping out there tonight again! I need to wash my car but not with the dust blowing all over.

Got a few more tomatoes today from my plants. They are really tasty but the skins are really thick and tough. I bought a bunch of tomatoes at WM last week that are about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and are really tasty with thinner skins. Got another very small strawberry today too. My plant is looking kind of sad now tho, so not sure how many more I will get from it.

I bought a ham sandwich at WM today and ate half of it for lunch. Will have the other half tomorrow in honor of Easter. Best I can do this year.

Oops! Power just went out here! ...now it just came back on. Maybe from the high winds blowing. We usually don't lose power here since all the electrical is underground, but the area around us has power lines so maybe those are getting blown around. Just about ready to head off to bed anyways.

Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
