Cold Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cold Sunday

Postby Othersharon » Sun Jan 30, 2022 9:47 am

Good morning. It’s a very cold morning here but I’m grateful to have dodged the big snowstorm. It stayed cold and windy all day yesterday and I got up to a bit of snow on the sidewalk and driveway but the sunshine took care of it so I never had to shovel it off. Thank you sunshine! I think I need another cup of coffee before I deal with the day! I’m looking forward to the warmup this week before we go in the deep freeze again. Shirl, did you get snow? Friends down in Myrtle Beach had snowflakes yesterday too! Hope everyone else is surviving this crazy weather. Sue, wish I could embrace this weather like you do! I’ve just never been a fan of winter! Guess I could say I tolerate it since I can’t change it! I think I need to go somewhere today just to get out of the house for awhile and at least see other people! Even if I don’t get to close to them! Judy, it’s sad the extremes people will go to with their dogs. I mean I enjoy having my guy with me but only where he’s welcome. Crazy world we live in! Not much else else going on here today so hope you all have a great day and look forward to reading about your day! Be safe and stay warm!

Mornig everyone. Some snow out there this morning, but not a lot, probably couple inches. Will deal with it later when it quits. Temp is 19° what a real feel of 13°. Shirl, looks like you lucked out with the storm as I saw someplaces in NJ got as much as 19”.

Interesting dog conversation on here. Sure sounds like that lady at Disney is going overboard. I see people with dogs in Home Depot and Lowe’s here. Bit I find nothing wrong with that. Many time Thty are growing puppies out getting socialized with all the people and strange things around. Some of the Home Depot staff carry dog biscuits in their work aprons. I took Molly to Tractor Supply with me when she was a pup for those same reasons. Learning socialization, noises, parking lots and all that. She has no fear of anything other than slippery floors now. I also read that although people think it’s cute to dress up their dogs, the dogs hate it. Maybe it makes them feel confined.

Still researching bathroom flooring. Nixed the vinyl sheet one I was looking at and am now looking at vinyl plank. Not to say I might not go back to the sheet flooring, but a different pattern. Have a couple plank patterns here right now, have eliminated one and am going back tomorrow for one I saw on the manufactures website that I like.

Think today is going to be a get into the basement and go through stuff. Need to get some storage things for my workshop and some pegboard hooks. Might have a storm mid week, but starting to look like it might go south and just give us snow showers. Time will tell. Good time to work in basement and get painting started.

Off to get dressed and get busy. Have a nice dsy everyone :)

Morning All, sunny and 23°. Thought I would just be positive and wait until next week for above freezing temperatures. Another unpredictable storm heading this way. Have bowls of water sitting around and a 3qt crockpot with water simmering on low without the lid to raise humidity. After looking at the mess broke down and ordered a humidifier from Amazon. Maybe I can get a good price on a dehumidifier for next summer. Hoping to do some, ore winter sowing before the storm if it warms a little. Be safe

Good morning gals!

Was a long busy day yesterday! I went to bed early and just woke up 10 hours later! Hopefully today won't be as busy! It is a shorter day which is better, only 6 hours. But I have 2 haircuts to do in the park after work today.

California is big on dogs! Seems everyone has a dog, mostly little ones. And they are taken everywhere. Technically, they are not allowed in Walmarts, but everyone brings them in there anyway and the employees never say anything. We also are not supposed to allow dogs into our shop but we overlook it too. Most customers keep them in the lobby but some will bring them to the chair and we put them in a place where they won't be in the way. They are usually well behaved and stay put. If they are really little, the customer will sometimes keep them in their lap under the cape. I would rather deal with a well-behaved dog than an unruly kid! I do think dogs shouldn't be in stores that sell food, tho. I do see some in grocery stores, and of course, Walmart sells groceries too. As far as clothes on dogs, I think some dogs like the attention, but I don't think they all like wearing stuff. I can understand sweaters on dogs to keep them warm outside if they don't have much fur.

I am looking forward to going to Laguna Beach next weekend! I need a couple days to relax a little and get my beach/ocean fix!

Enjoy your day and stay warm!

It's a nice day here, 68 and sunny. The sun makes things seem so much better. I haven't talked to my grandson in New Jersey yet so don't know how much snow they got.

My office cleaning seems to have started my spring cleaning early. I told the plumber that when they had time I would like to change my kitchen faucet and one of the toilets need some work. I decided to clean off the kitchen counter. I matched up the containers I use to freeze things in with a lid and threw things that didn't have a match away. I have been wanting to get rid of all the stuff we used to doctor cows. I gathered all that up and gave it to the guy that has cows here. I found the battery charger that had been missing to one of the tools. Hope I can get more done before I run out of steam.

I seldom see dogs in stores here except at Petsmart. Since employees can't say anything to people that are shoplifting I don't know if they can say something about a dog. It was on the news that an employee at Academy in Lafayette got fired for trying to stop a woman from walking out with a bag of stuff she didn't pay for. The employee was injured because the woman punched her. The woman should have been arrested for assault. People know they can get away with this so they just fill up a basket and walk out. Some people are so crazy now that you run a risk of telling them anything. They might shoot you.

Back to cleaning my office.

I don’t mind dogs in hardware stores or even pubs in England. Dogs in pubs lay under their owners’ table and are usually very well behaved. No feeding them or holding them in laps or allowing them on tables.

Still cold here in n Orlando. This will almost certainly be my last trip here. I am disgusted with the new two-class visitor system. See my blog for details.

There is a long list of stores that allow dogs.....usually the Lowes and Tractor Supply and PetSmart...... I use many of the local ones to train my dogs in their back aisles. It is the places that don't have those policies and people take advantage of or try to pretend their dogs are certified that make it difficult for the folks that actually do have well trained and well socialized assistance dogs.....

I have owned a small, clip-on Fitbit for an embarrassing number of years, but have never used it. However, today, I decided to stick it on my pocket at Disney's Hollywood Studios to see how much I really walked. I am terribly out of shape and have been guilty of using my age as an excuse! (None of you have done that, right?) So, the results say that today, I walked 9762 steps and walked 3.81 miles. I seem to remember several of you posting much bigger numbers of steps, so I think I really need to get walking more often and for longer distances. What is a good number of steps to achieve in an ordinary day compared to a day when I am touring something like Disney??? I did write the numbers down in a chart and am going to keep track, maybe not every day, but at least a few days every week or month.

I know I said I would quit this topic, but I can't help it. I did some online research, and you can buy a fancy-looking certificate that says your dog is certified as a service dog or emotional support animal for $69. For an additional $30, they will provide an ID kit and a vest that identifies the pet as a service dog. (They use the term "pet" throughout, by the way.) For an additional $80, they will include a leash that has "service dog" printed on it and a tag, plus a booklet that describes your rights. The ad says the certificate is "recognizable" in 50 states and the certificate will help you "avoid hassle." The big problem is that something being able to be recognized, is not the same as saying that all 50 states will recognize the certificate!!

This company also says it will help you "navigate" unfair pet rules, extra fees, and required deposits. But again, this does NOT mean that they will guarantee that these certificates or vests will force governmental bodies, companies, airlines, or housing authorities to allow you to get your pet accepted as a service dog. So, basically, anyone can certify you to do anything, but that does not mean anyone else has to accept that certification--so basically this is a big rip-off and people are selling a printed piece of paper, a cheap vest, and cheap leash for an awful lot of $$$$. (At the bottom of the web page, they do offer a "budget" kit that includes an electronic certificate and your pet's lifetime registration number!!)

Anyway, here are some real rules about ADA requirements for service dogs: https://www.ada.gov/regs2010/service_animal_qa.html. Note that it says service dogs must stay on the floor, or in some cases where the dog must sniff the owners breath to determine a medical condition, it can be carried in a pack on the person's chest. It is not allowed to be in shopping carts or eat at tables or in food service areas, although admittedly it does not say anything about pink baby carriages!

Judy, I usually make around 5,000 steps a day. When I'm loading up to go camping and getting things ready to leave I have made as many as 12,000. I should make an effort to do more but I am having pain in my right heel. I'm trying to keep it from advancing into a full blown case of Plantar Fasciitis. I have had that several times with the shot that hurts so much. For some reason 10,000 steps seems the goal people shoot for.

I thought yesterday was a long, hard day at work, but today was even worse! Yikes!

Just me and the new gal today. Apparently the Great Clips shop closest to ours was closed today (probably from Covid with no one available to come in) so all those clients who go there, came to our shop instead! We got totally bombarded! I finally had to let my co-worker go to lunch while I kept cutting. Later we had a short lull while waiting for on-line check-in customers to show up so I took an 8 minute lunch before having to get back to work. We had a two hour wait at 2:30 and we close at 4:00! Luckily, the last 4 on-line check-ins didn't show up so we were able to get out on time!

I came home exhausted and layed down. I had 2 haircuts scheduled for 6:00 down the street. At 5:45 I heard my doorbell ring. Turns out the haircut time was actually for 5:30 and they were wondering what happened to me. I quickly got my stuff together and went back to their house to do the haircuts. They are new clients and I am sure I came off very unorganized. I did apologize for that.

I sometimes wonder how many steps I take at work every day! :?

So now I need to find some dinner and get to bed early again. Long day tomorrow again, especially if that other shop is still closed.

my youngest brother came for an early supper today I thought he was coming at 4:30 he came at 4 I think we started eating about 4;30 we had roast and veggies cooked with it... was going to just cover it with foil and bake at 325 but pulled out the foil and it was all but gone wouldn't even cover the roast let alone the pan I had it in... so found a roasting bag and dumped it all in there but had to put it at a higher temp at least according to the instructions on the box... so 350 it was...... then we had cole slaw as well as corn and biscuits. no desert though was going to make apple crisp but wasn't sure if I had enough apples or not and ran out of time... he lives about 2 hours away especially if you hit the park after dark where the speed limit goes down to 45 mph it takes forever to get through the park at that rate.... so he left right after "supper" so desert wasn't needed anyway... he is 68 I said I didn't realize he was that old  said to do the math I replied I can't remember my own kids birth years let alone anyone else... well I can but I really have to ponder it and I don't even try on my siblings all in all it was a good visit I am glad that mom and brother got to visit... cleaned up the dishes and then zoned out watching tv and doing a couple of coloring pages... got my 2 rows in before chat came on ...

Judy, I use my Apple Watch to remind me hoe many steps I have or have not taken. It is good to remind me when I have been a slug but I am not afraid to take a day off when my body says...whoa. Depending upon your system there is a way to measure your step length so that the milage actually comes out more accurate. I say that because I have long legs and when my back isn't hurting I still have a long stride. My suggestion is to start reasonable and then challenge yourself to do more but listen to your body. I will not get up and take the dogs out one more time just to achieve a bigger number. I move when I want to move and do what I can.
