Saturday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday Morning

Postby JudyJB » Sat Jan 29, 2022 11:34 am

My point was that even though 57 degrees may not be cold compared to New York right now, it is too cold at 8:00 pm when it is very windy for a 1 or 2-year old to be outdoors for hours dressed in only shorts and a thin t-shirt. Most of us adults were cold even with jackets on. I was not the only person to notice the many poorly dressed children, especially on the little ferry boat coming back to the campground last night--two barely walking toddlers with no jackets or even long pants on when most of us were wearing sweatshirts or jackets.

And Disney, along with many places these days, does not allow "emotional support" animals. (Nor do they allow small horses or pigs as companions anywhere on their properties.) I understand that this woman may have needed emotional support, but I was looking at it from the dog's point of view. It is not kindness to any animal to dress it up in baby clothing and wrap it in layers of blankets to hide it so it can ride around in a basket in a theme park. It would have been much happier being taken for a walk, running around in a park, or given attention in some "doggy" way, like being brushed. And while some dogs can tolerate very small amounts of ice cream, and a lot of people do feed that to them, it is not the best treat for dogs who cannot digest the milk fat. I love animals of all kinds, but I think they need to be treated with more consideration sometimes from their owners.

Off to Animal Kingdom for an even colder day--high of 48. At least it is a little sunny.

Afternoon All, it’s stopped snowing and sunny. Think my area got 6” but plows were out early and traffic is zipping up and down the road. Black ice will be a concern tonight since temps are really cold. Took a hot shower, put on snowflake pjs, dab of perfume and even earrings so am ready for the day. Judy, years ago a friend loaned me her condo at Vero Beach, Fl. for two weeks in February. I thought I died and went to heaven. Packed up my kids and spent two weeks rotating two sets of sweats, thought I would freeze to death. Made crockpot bean soup yesterday so have dinner. Edie, I sprayed frozen sweet potato fries with olive oil then tossed them in a baggie with cornstarch and they were crispy. I shorten the recipe and couldn’t find the original to post. If you bought your fryer from Amazon there is usually a video posted of how to use. Or google search “how to use …..airfryer video”. I always need pictures. Be safe

Brrr cold here too 28 but the sun is out and that helps. I just went to the Coop for a few things and to see what kind of soup they had in the deli. I've complained but hasn't helped as it is nearly always broccoli and cheddar or lentil. Both are ok but gees a little variety would be great. I know I should make my own but I'm so not into cooking.

Shirl I can just see you in your jammies and earrings! Glad your heat stayed on and you only had 6" of snow I saw some reports of way more. I have so many bracelets and necklaces that I haven't worn since the start of this nightmare.

Judy I see too many dogs especially on Facebook who are not treated as dogs, although it sounds as thought the woman you observed was way over the top. I belong to a FB Standard Poodle group and see so many people saying they want one to be a service dog it makes me wonder. I also notice people don't dress their kids warm enough and wonder. I do have a little friend though that will shed shoes, socks and coats in weather most find cold. I do remember my Mom dressing us in so many layers if we went out that I'm amazed we could move.

Bj, it must be a generation thing. In the olden days when doctors made house calls mine came to see my newborn in July. I had her dressed bonnet and all. When he left she was only in a diaper. I had a sneezing fit yesterday and thought oh no. Saw the humidity meter which registered 32. Of course googled and low humidity was the culprits. Googled some more then placed a couple of bowls of water around, hung laundry on a rack and put water in the 3 qt crockpot and set it on low without the lid. Today meter registering 42. In case you are sneezing.

Shirl, I just read on one of my RV forums of a woman complaining about the high humidity in her rig. It was 51, definitely in the good zone. I have to use a humidifier in Arizona and Utah most of the time. I'm guessing this part of Texas is one of the best areas for asthma because it's usually on the good zone for both humidity and breathing. I have noticed a difference here.

I get very frustrated over people with their so called emotional support dogs. I'd say most are BS. Now, truth be told, I believe all our dogs, cats, horses, etc are good for our emotional health. But that doesn't qualify for taking them everywhere. And emotional support animals are not accepted like service animals. The whole thing pisses me off because it harms those who really need them. BTW, if the emotional support is really needed, a dog can be trained and become a service dog for the person. This has happened for PTSD, for example.

Shirl, I have earrings but my ears would need to be re-pierced. That's how long since I wore any!

Low 60's here today but with the sun it's nice. 70's the next 4 days then another cool off into the highs in the 50's predicted. Velda, I can take the 50's and 60's for highs with the sun. But when cloudy, dreary and/or rainy, those same temps can chill me to the bone.

I learn so much on here. I never would have associated low humidity with sneezing. Since it is usually really humid here I don't think about it. But when I washed my hair awhile ago it dried really fast which did make me think the humidity was low, just checked on my phone and it is 31% We do have something on our furnace that does something like adding moisture to the air.

Shirl, I remember the doctor coming to my Granny's house at night and she made the beds before he arrived! My 2 brothers and I were born at home. When I was born the doctor who was also a family friend thought I was going to be twins. Nope just a fat 10 pounder! My brother had colic and had cried for 6 months, when I was born Mom called him to come and see what was wrong with me because I didn't cry. He stopped by picked me up by the heels and swatted my bottom, gave me back screaming and said there are you happy now. Later when penicillin came out if I was sick he would ask what time my Dad would be home as he couldn't hold onto me and give me a shot. I was only about 7 or 8 and always really skinny. Things have certainly changed! Now we Zoom with the doctor.

Thank you, Shirl and Beth, for the earring reminder! They went in easy, but one of the 55 year old piercings already hurts - that started a few years ago.

Cold and cloudy here. Snow predicted tomorrow. Concerned because the kids have to go over the pass and back Monday for a doctor's appointment. Hope they plan to take the Hummer.

I don't think weird weather should surprise us anymore - it's everywhere! One of the things about here and FB is getting 'reports' from all over the country.

Air fryer sounds a bit like me and the overlock machine - watched a lot of videos! :) I know animals can be a great emotional support, but they shouldn't have to go everywhere. My pet peeve right now is the pet station 'yard art' outside my window and pile after pile of dog poop on the snow. Looked yesterday and the sidewalk that the manager told me she would have cleared is still covered. Judy, I don't think Disney ever seems uncrowded no matter what they say. I was there in January and February 4 years ago.

Had one of those days yesterday when all I wanted to do was sleep. Not sure why that happens once in awhile. Just placed a big Walmart order to be shipped.

Everyone be safe and warm.

In terms of performing specific services, a service dog that supports someone with PTSD, might be trained to nudge a person who was acting depressed or possibly lick them. These would be actions to give them attention and distract them. A dog might also be trained to identify someone with low blood sugar that might be having a diabetic reaction by barking or even pushing a button to call medical help.

This kind of training takes months and is very expensive, but often covered by insurance or non-profit organizations. It cannot be done, as is sometimes advertised, in a two or three-week session, or by following instructions in a manual or online. Some states are beginning to regulate service animals and airlines, especially, are starting to control who they allow on planes as service dogs.

I won't even get into the people who bring dogs into Walmart and let them ride in the carts while they do their shopping!! As much as I loved pets I had in the past, I never allowed them to sit on food packages in my kitchen, so I do not like wondering what was sitting in my shopping cart before I put groceries in it. And I once called the humane society on one of my neighbors who had left their dog in a pen bordering my yard for weeks on end without taking it out to play or exercise. The last straw was when it started to get skinny and was elderly. I could not stand to have to watch that dog die of neglect, so I called and the humane society came and got the dog. The neighbors were nice people, but the wife was ill with cancer and the husband was just plain stupid. The son was my son's best friend, so I never told anyone, including my kids what I had done, but I never regretted it.

It is one thing to occasionally dress up a dog for an occasion like Halloween, but this lady was way beyond that, and it bothered me because I thought it verged on animal abuse or at least did not show real care for the animal. Enough of this, in any case.

The plumber I called on Monday finally showed up this afternoon. He is letting the glue cure overnight and coming back in the morning to check it. I sure hope I'm done with that and can move on to the next problem. Need to make an appointment to get my car serviced.

I was digging in my closet recently and found the hanging thing that holds all the earrings I wore when I was working. I probably have 25 pair. Now about all I wear are the surgical stainless steel ones like they pierce your ears with. The others make my ears sore unless they are real gold.

I looked up the humidity on my phone and it's 70%. When it's low my skin itches so much I could scratch it all off. At least here the humidity is usually about 100% or feels like it.

Anita, they will have to hire the poop police. lol Fine some of the pet owners. That and loose dogs aggravates me at the campgrounds. I have a bag holder attached to the leash.

Today must be soup day. I had crawfish and artichoke bisque for lunch. I cooked some rice so I could have gumbo tonight. I have a king cake that has been in the freezer since last year. I got it to take to a campout and didn't go. I took it out and defrosted it enough to slice it. Now I can just take one slice out, like I need cake. Heaven forbid that I throw food away.

My younger son was hot natured and it was hard to keep clothes on him. A few times I would get home when Harold was suppose to be watching him and he would be at the barn with nothing on but dirt and Underroos. When it was muddy Harold would let the horse walker pull him and he would ski in the mud. Life on the funny farm.

Hope everyone survives the snow storm. It's going to warm up to 70 here on Tuesday and freeze again next Friday.

I had to laugh at Martha's saying about not throwing food away... on the table is a bag of Dot's pretzels I love the brand the original flavor.... this is a honey mustard flavor I thought I would like it I don't and can't seem to give it away either  I asked my brother on Christmas day if he wanted them he declined and said you know it's ok to throw it away???? It's still sitting on the table...
My dd gave me a necklace and earring set for Christmas I have one ear that I could put a earring through the other I can't it's like I have to pierce it all over again so haven't worn earrings for a long time they seemed to get irritated when I would wear them so quite wearing them.... I thought when I got the gift that perhaps I ought to have my ears re-pierced...but then I would have to get expensive stuff :o
I took Shadow to a store once it was a pet smart store when I first got him and didn't realize how nervous he was I never took him to a store again... I didn't even like taking him to the store and leaving him in the car as I had to hurry too much for fear someone would decide that he was too hot or too cold or neglected or whatever...
one of the reason's we got the trailer that we did was it had lots of blank walls that pictures ect could be put on... I have my grandkid wall it still needs perhaps two frames ( Larry was the one who put them up in that case it would be 3 as we've had 3 grandkids since he passed away) today my son called asking what way the frames hung as he was getting new pictures of his girls.... to replace the old ones I think his oldest daughter was maybe 5 in the last picture she just turned 13  my eldest grandson is a dad of 2 now his picture is when he was perhaps 15 maybe??? it so needs to be up dated and I need to figure out where to put the ones not up as they will go down the wall pretty far... so it is something I will need to address when I get home...
you all have a great day
