Monday, after the storm

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday, after the storm

Postby PeggyinCT » Mon Aug 23, 2021 7:16 am

Good morning Everybody from gray and maybe more rain CT. The storm was a non event in Hartford; not so in eastern CT and Rhode Island. I was lucky. Half of my fall cleanup is done as I won’t put out a lot of the stuff I took in.
Barbie, where did you post the photo of you in the “wedding” dress? I didn’t see it.
Beth, I can’t imagine anybody not liking being in West Yellowstone. People come from all over the world...
Enjoy your day. Peggy

Morning Peggy and all. Thanks for posting this morning. I was wondering how you were faring with Henri hitting CT. Glad to hear all is well, even if wet. I think the saddest news is from Waverly, TN where the unexpected flash flood hit. Stories of destruction, missing and killed family members and friends.

Beth, I too figured you would take that job. West Yellowstone is a great place to spend the summer. I stayed at the Grizzle Bear RV park for a week and loved it. They gave me a site at the end of the loop with a nice big grassy area and a tree. Molly was in dog heaven. Since it was mid June, Tbe park wasn’t as busy as it is later and there were no campers across the road. I had a wonderful view of Yellowstone all week. Found myself a really great rain coat on sale in town too. Wish now I had bought 2. And yes, the Huckleberry Ice cream was delicious

Martha, sounds like Sugar had a great time camping  it’s fun watching are fur kids enjoy themselves.

Anne, I’ll keep my eye out for a white van with a Jayco behind it  That got me to thinking. Do you check on your trailer periodically? My thought was your tires getting low and flat spots from sitting so long.

More hot humid weather coming in this week. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be gradually getting more humid. I got a new curtain rod and all but one valance back up in my trailer yesterday. Taking it over to get propane tanks refilled this morning. Then will plug in and turn on fridge will cool down for upcoming trip. Looking like rainy weather coming up towards weeks end. Could decide to cancel and wait till Sept. Will monitor forecast for next few days. Thty say up to 2 inches in some places.

Karen, you sound like me. Getting things done before seasonal changes. It’s what motivates me to get projects going around here. Whereas you are just now getting to staining your deck, I do mine in spring, as this time of year, the nights are getting cooler and the deck is wet with dew in the morning, so then it takes time to dry. I know there are only so many weeks to do some ‘summer chores” before fall comes. After Labor Day I will start putting away the summer stuff and haul out the fall decorations :) Weather is cooler, usually, on both sides of summer to work outside too. We all have our best times for certain things.

Guess I should get moving here. Need to go pay property taxes this morning and get that done, run to town for a few things, put the last valance up in the trailer, get the propane tanks filled etc. You’all wore out yet?

Congratulations Beth, I too thought you would take the job. Hope it works out well.

It's going to be a hot week here also, I'm ready for fall. it has been really dry here but we finally had a good rain day a couple of days ago.

We found out that Mitzi had something called Myeloproliferative Disease or possibly EMH as the two are almost indistinguishable. It is like a cancer of the blood cells, but that wasn't caused by anything in her bloodline. Our vet has been in practice for 35 years and had never seen it before. He has a pathologist he has used for many years and they had a long discussion about the diagnosis. I am one who although still devastated wants another dog as soon as possible so I have been looking but Havanese are very difficult to find. I did find a two year old champion in Kansas City that the breeder is going to place but something about it doesn't feel right. She didn’t ask for references or any of the other questions a good breeder usually asks so we have decided to wait.

Emma and her friends are at a vet appointment for one of the black poodles. It looks like a support group! They get to stop at Pet Smart on the way home. At least my dog has a social life....

Good morning. Having a decent week with highs in the 80's. I can work with that. Yesterday morning it was hazy out and smelled like smoke but by afternoon it had cleared out....whew. This morning, so far, is clear. Loved the full moon the last couple of nights. Going to continue with my outside chores this morning. My new paint sprayer comes today. So will finish painting my shed tomorrow as the wind has been present in the afternoon as it heats up so dont want lots of overspray. I need to finish the primer and then wait a day to apply the paint. Right now it is half primed as I decided the brush had to go and a paint sprayer was in order LOL Will just buy some cheaper outdoor paint because it is just a shed LOL

BJ very interesting on Mitzi's diagnosis. Of course I had to google it. Happens in humans too, I found that interesting. Difficult to diagnose in dogs apparently. I know you still have that hole in your heart from losing your pup. I lost my old gal in early March at 14 1/2yrs old (2017) and was lucky enough to be offered a puppy almost right away from a breeder in Michigan. She was 4 weeks old at that time. I had never had a puppy before and had to think about it. But I was retired then so decided I would go ahead. I had to wait until she was 10 weeks old to fly. I checked this breeder out with our breeder here in Oregon (who had nothing) and she came with very high marks. Tibetan spaniels are super rare and people wait years on a waiting list to get a puppy so I was elated. Blossom was my first one and she was a perfect dog for me. She was a retired show dog, bred twice, spayed and was almost 7 when I gave her a forever home. I was also super lucky to get Emma and I call her the "second best dog ever". I certainly had room in my heart for another dog to love. I hope you find your perfect dog like I did.
LOVED the pic of the doggy support group. Super cute.

Peggy happy to hear you survived Henri, better than some of the people I guess. Sue getting ready to go camping. There are days I would love to go then reality sets in and I dismiss that idea. If you dont have reservations around here you will be lucky to get a spot and I dont like making reservations so far in advance. So many of our campgrounds only have a few spots dedicated for "transient campers" and the rest are permanents. Due to all our fires last year and this year spots are really hard to come by so I can't see all the expenses associated with an RV just to have it sit. And of course the coast has always been crazy in the summer.

News today, Kids go back to school. Still arguing over the mask mandates our governor put in place. Protests here and there. I think some people just look for something to protest Our governor has mandated vaccines for state workers, teachers and healthcare staff. Will be watching to see how this plays out. Oregon National guard arrived here over the weekend and got an escort to our local hospital as they are here to help with anything that is needed. Most are not medical but there is so much more involved than patient care. So they got a rousing welcome this morning at 7am as they had a police escort and many people on the streets by the hospital with thank you signs. I loved it.

Okay enough jabbering time to get busy

I love West Yellowstone, also. One reason I like it is because it is the exact right size for riding a bike around to stores. Only problem is that Grizzly RV Park is getting horribly expensive compared to when i first stayed there. However, I will never go back to Yellowstone in July or August again!

Feeling a lot better today from booster shot on Thursday. Am relaxing and was trying to make phone calls, but just got to leave messages. Did make a haircut appointment for tomorrow, at least. Will stop at son's house and drop some stuff off. Am going through all the stuff I left there and still got more to do. Also need to go through a couple more pass-throughs in my motorhome to see if I can toss things out or leave them in son's basement. Need to do this before Sept 3rd because I will be headed southeast, although my first stop is not that far away that I can't come back to say goodbye after 6 days there.

I also was able to make some good reservations in Florida yesterday morning. Hit button too early by a second, but then amazingly had a second chance and got a spot at Ortona South COE campground for 12 nights starting in mid-February. That is a great COE campground on the Caloosahatchee Canal, which goes through a lock right at the campground and heads west towards Fort Myers. Lots of boats go through so fun to go out and watch them. Also, a family of otters has lived there for many years and are fun to watch because you can stand on a pedestrian bridge right above their home. Very nicely landscaped with paved pads, plus lots of birds everywhere. And good deal for water and electric at $15 per night for us old folks with a federal senior pass.

Heading out to dump my tanks and pick up a pizza for dinner!!

BJ, that's funny that your dog has a social life. She is doing better than me. The procedure my sister had is what you had said. I was with her for 3 days and she wasn't complaining about having the pain in her mouth.

I gave Sugar a bath this morning so I need to finish cleaning the bathroom. I washed a load of towels and the bathmat and fought with the washer for an hour trying to get it to spin and not keep adding water. I finally took the bathmat out and hung it outside. Then CC peed in Sugar's bed and I had to wash that. It's hanging on a fence because I can't dry it. The dryer will melt the backing. CC is going to join the barn cats.

Every time I go out I have to come in and sit in front of a fan. My thermometer says it 100 and the heat index is 110. I want to go mow in Maurice because it's suppose to start raining tomorrow. I'm trying to keep that grass from getting away from me again. It will be dark before it's cool enough to go out.

I hate my new phone. I had a recorded call about a delivery and couldn't get to the keypad to press 1 to accept it. I turned the volume up as high as it will go and I still have trouble hearing it. The free phone came while I was gone. The guy at ATT said there would be a return label in the box. There isn't. Back to the ATT store.

BJ, even though the pains still there I'm glad you got answers. And I love the play group picture.

I've been laughing how everyone knew what I'd decide, everyone except me lol. I remember it as being a neat town, also. I'm not looking forward to the crowds, but like that I'll be parked away from the crowds but still right in the middle of everything. And, Judy, yes the prices are really continuing to go up around Yellowstone and most of the national parks. I'd have a very hard time talking myself into paying them. Luckily I like boondocking and there are still some spaces around many of the parks to do so. But even better is having a private site provided for me!

Martha, I meant to give Ty a bath today. Maybe tomorrow. I can procrastinate anything.

I'm ready for the end of my season here, but this one lasts until the start of November. It's still super slow here but they tell me we'll get busy again in September. We shall see.
