Beautiful Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Beautiful Friday

Postby Colliemom » Fri Aug 13, 2021 7:12 am

Morning out there. Sunshine and blue sky this morning after a week of pretty warm, humid, sometimes es bit wet and stormy week. That stuff is outta here and now a nice weather pattern coming in. 70’s over the weekend, low 80’s next week. Haven’t heard anything about posible smoke in the air though.

I don’t under stand the anti vaxers either. I have a friend who is one, but we sit out on her deck when I stop by to visit on my walks. And she does wear a mask where needed or required. This county hasn’t had any cases yet, to my knowledge, but there are a few in adjoining ones. There are quite a few people vaccinated in the 4 county area under the Health Dept. here. I’m seeing more people with masks on. Governor said there will be no mask mandates. Leaving it up to businesses, schools and people, to determine how they want to handle it. Not a one size fits all thing.

Barbie, you are going to look lovely at the wedding. Judy, glad you were able to get moved. I wondered if there was power from what I had been hearing on the news about the storms. Velda, glad the knee is feeling better and yes, it can be tied to the lower back if it is out of alignment a bit. It’s surprising what can get to hurting when the spine is out of alignment. Pinches the nerves. Sorry so any of you are being confined home due to heat, smoke or whatever. Wish I could send some relief your way.

Think this is going to be an odd assortment of chores today. Run vac, clean my bathroom, change bedding, put a coat of stain on windowsill, mow grass and pick up some sticks and branches from storms at sub entrance and do a minor fence repair type of day. So guess I should get started. Already have a load of laundry washed and waiting to go in the dryer.

Ha e a nice dsy and stay safe out there.

Afternoon Sue, I have no news but didn’t want you sitting here all alone. :) It’s traffic Friday so staying home and just putzing . Going to call around to thrift shops looking for a used file cabinet. Finally dawned on me it is hard to organize papers if you have no where to put them. I would have more space if I got rid of all the plastic bins now full of papers. The balcony is a mess too but need less humidity to clean that space. On the bright side, I have a couple good books to read. Loved all of Tony Hillerman books about Navajo policeman Jim Chee. Tony’s daughter has taken up the saga where her dad left off. I sure could use some of the Navajo peaceful beliefs. Be safe.

Almost noon here. Just got back from PT.

While I was laying in bed last night I remembered that I had seen some hairline cracks in the bottom of the gourd I am working on. I saw them a couple weeks ago but forgot about them. They can usually be fixed from the outside of the gourd but now I am just about done with it so am trying to find a way to fix them from the inside. I am going to try Mod Podge mixed with either sand or kitty litter and put that all around the inside to stablize the cracks. I also posted on the Gourd FB page for ideas.

I have a Chinese stamp like Sandi has, to put a mark on any Asian designs I do and now I cannot find it! Darn! It would really add to this piece. I will look again tomorrow out in the porch.

The temps here are supposed to stay just near 100* or so for the next week. If it isn't too humid, it will be very tolerable! Not bad for August! :D

Need to get ready for work and eat lunch before I leave. Have a good day!

Well still smoky out here but not as bad as yesterday. Still not good tho. I am just staying in busying myself with small projects. Had to call my neighbor who was going to the coast on the 23rd to meet his daughter there for her birthday. They were going to play Bingo at the Casino and do some other stuff BUT the Casino, Chinook Winds is closing for a few weeks due to covid outbreak.

I get to "get outta the house" tomorrow. Going to drive up to Eugene (about hour away) and have a Mini GTG with Laura and Claudia (she isn't on here but an RV'ing friend to many). Looking forward to meeting Claudia and we get to have lunch wahoo.

Going to make myself a Mocha and see what I can find to watch on the tv.

Karen, is that the Claudia who just put cork floor in her Class C? If so, yes I follow her and we write once in a while. Tell her Hi for me!
It's a beautiful mostly blue sky day here and only 93 at nearly 3:30 pm. Had my Curves workout. Got in touch with Central Vac place, who, it turns out, installed mine in 1980/81! They are shipping me a new power head for my hose for only $220, where the online sources wanted to sell me the entire tool kit including head that even they weren't sure would work on my 15 year old hose and charge me $700! Learned Sequoia Central Vac has been in business since 1956 and are still servicing some of their original installs(changing filters and emptying canisters) for people now in their 90's still using their original Central Vac unit. Hooray for good local companies!
I started a load in washer, will go shower, then start filling car for a Tuesday run to Goodwill.
Have a good weekend!

Not much on TV, at least on Dish. I guess they figure everyone has gone out on Friday night.

I cleaned out and sorted through the bottom part (closest to the end of the bed) on my under-bed storage area. Had trouble reaching all the way in and my grabber would not grab things well enough--sort of like those games where you are supposed to grab a stuffed animal--so I had to almost climb in to get some heavy stuff out. Tossed some stuff out, but more importantly, put like things with like things, plus put all the trinkets and memory stuff I got from my uncle's house into one storage bin. It and the bin full of family stuff I went through a couple of days ago will go to my son's basement. I am going to try to get rid of stuff down there next week. Found some books and stuff I had bought to give as gifts but that I had forgotten about. A puzzle about women scientists and a book on women archeologists will go to my granddaughter for her 12th birthday in three weeks.

Most disappointing today was getting a call saying that the company that made and shipped my custom-sized RV mattress had sent me the wrong one, and to refuse it when it came. So had to text my son and his wife who work most of the time from home. Luckily, they were able to catch FedEx and refuse delivery, but now I don't know when I am going to get my new mattress!!! When I get it, I can toss out my old 3" memory form topper and get rid of the junky mattress I currently have. There were four types of mattress choices, and I got the second from the bottom in terms of height. Hate having to stretch my short legs to get onto a tall mattress!!

Tomorrow is groceries, mailing a couple of letters, and getting a haircut. Also, going to drop off my set of Audabon regional books to the office, hoping they want them for their lending library. I used to use these, but am now more likely to look stuff up on the internet. I still have one North American bird book and a wildflower book, so I am covered anyway.

Judy, a lot of nights there isn't much on TV and Friday is the worst. This morning I spent a long time on the phone with someone with DirecTv. It was working last night but when I turned it on this morning it wasn't communicating with the dish. She finally decided to make me an appointment for someone to come. I kept messing with things and finally got it working so cancelled the repair. All I did was unscrew some cables and screw them back in so who knows what was wrong.

Didn't do much else today. Tonight I met my son and his girlfriend at one of the seafood restaurants in town. I finally got my boiled crabs. They were very pepper hot so hope I don't forget and rub my eyes.

Tomorrow I'm suppose to go have lunch with my friends Carolyn and Colleen. They were at an RVW campout East of here. I didn't go because of my doctor's appointment.

Karen, Is that Claudia from Louisiana? Last I heard I think she was somewhere near Washington state.

We got out of work a little early today. I stopped at Jo Anne Fabrics to get another item for the gourd, and then to Home Depot for a set of tiny drill bits. I can't find my drill bit set and I don't think I have a real small one. The way to keep cracks on gourds from spreading is to drill a hole at the end of the crack and then fill it in with wood filler. So I will do that in the morning. Meanwhile, I coated the inside of the gourd with Gorilla glue mixed with fine sand to strengthen the cracked area of the gourd. Still a couple things to do tomorrow on it before packing it in a box and getting it wrapped up. I stopped at WM for wrapping paper and a card. I was really good tonight and only bought the few things that were on my list for all three places!

Started packing a few things for the trip. This morning I messaged the bride to find out if there is a place at the venue to change into my dress so I don't have to wear it on the drive up there. She said yes there is a large nice bathroom there. So that is good! I will feel much more comfortable in shorts and a t-shirt for the drive.

Good night...
