Wednesday August 11

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday August 11

Morning All, same ole weather. Not safe out there for old timers so staying home. Next week looks much better for doing a little shopping. I did get the ancient Kindle reader up and running so now have two Kindles and two library books going at the same time. I don’t know if anyone else downloads books from the library but they are very busy. I like mysteries and you have to put a hold on a book and wait your turn. It’s a nuisance but so convenient. Irmi, how fitting to have your piano continue to play beautiful in church. A nice goodbye to Maryland. BJ, sorry to hear your sad news. I wore a mask yesterday to empty trash and got the mail. So sad. Be safe

Good morning Shirl and all. Better enjoy your same ole weather, because if the weather pattern that we are having now, heads your way, it certainly will not be the same ole weather. Michigan was hit hard last night by severe storms and although there isn’t any damage around me here, Traverse City and other areas south have quite a bit of damage. There are 200, 000 without power across the state. Another round is expected later today. Then things will settle down and back Into to our normal 70’s. it was quite the lightning show. Actually it was about first thunderstorm we have had this year so far. We have had a few rumbles now and then but nothing other than just rain. I was up until midnight last night waiting for this mess to pass through. I don’t like to go to bed when we are having this kind of weather because you never know what might happen. There were continuous warnings going across screen on the TV and I was also getting code red alerts from the coubty emergency center my my phone. Glad I wasn’t at a campground. We have had 4 inches of rain since Monday afternoon. It’s beautiful out here right now. Nice breeze blowing and just comfortable

So today I am not getting into anything as I have a retirement party this afternoon. Not sure just what time I am going. Right now I think I am going to have myself a bit of lunch and just putter around a little bit. I hope all of you have a safe day no matter where you are.

Testing the Nationwide Emergency Alert system today. Don’t panic if you get the alert. I text my family also. In these troubled times thought I would mention “it’s a test” :)

Good morning!

Irmi, what a delightful post! Your music will live on in the church. Sheila, what a great family time! Martha, my latest trips to Home Depot it has been hard to find someone to help! I went to the local hardware store Sunday. Could have used some help, but the 3 guys were busy visiting at the counter! When I went with a question and the wrong item, no one even offered to help!

Shirl, I only get books online from the library. I check each day for new additions and can often put a hold on a book months before it's released. Sue, that was quite a storm!

We are to hit 100 today. Drug myself out of bed at 8 because of a PT appt. At 8:15 got the call he won't be in today due to lack of childcare! Next week he's on vacation. Shoulder was so good last week until I had appointment and has been sore since. I did buy a massager like he uses - also got one for the kids.

Saw 2 ambulances on the side street to the KOA yesterday. Man fell off his tube, hit his head on rocks and drowned by the park. When we hear sirens here, first thoughts are river rescue or fire.

I don't know who is charge of projects here at the apartment, but they could use someone more organized. A couple weeks ago they painted the handicap signs on the parking pavement. A few days later they tore up the pavement and then had to repaint. This morning I have several Spanish speaking men in front of my apartment putting in lawn edging! Maybe should have done that before doing the landscaping. Wish I remembered my Spanish because one of the guys is quite vocal about something. :) Now if they'd just put down the rest of the sod!

With change in plans, I need to figure out my day. Might make the satin pillowcase my daughter wants and her yellow ribbon because Kyle is overseas.

Have a good day whatever you are doing!

Good morning. Another hot few days for us this week. 105 106 today and tomorrow UGH I guess I have a couple small projects I could work on in here. IF I would have known we would have such a hot summer I would have started my painting inside projects but I had so much yardwork to work on that I said I would start this winter....oh well the way the days are flying by it will be winter soon.

I did manage to get my watch band changed on my Fitbit Versa 2, The other one was getting pretty trashy looking so it was time. I watched the Youtube video by a great guy I could even understand and only had a mild struggle but was pretty easy after all. Didn't get my light up in the shed it was just too dang hot so that might wait until next week. Oh well heck I am retired so have plenty of time LOL

We are having scattered showers today. At least it lowers the temperature, it's 86 instead of 96. We have another tropical storm headed this way. Right now they think it will go to the East of Louisiana. It should be in the Gulf by Saturday.

I have two motion sensor lights in the house so I don't trip over a cat at night. Last night I noticed that they weren't working. I wish I had know that yesterday when I was at Home Depot and Walmart. I could probably have found something to replace them. I probably have a night light I can use until I make it back to town. It seems like everyday there is something that needs to be replaced or fixed. My eye doctor appointment is tomorrow so maybe I can get to town early. I have been getting messages and reminders about my appointment for two weeks. I hope I don't forget. lol

Anita, it sounds like your apartment workers are like our road crews. They come along and paint the road lines and then resurface the road and paint again. They fixed the school caution lights right before school was out and they worked all summer when there was no school. Yesterday when I was going to town the lights weren't working. They must be on a timer and if the power goes off the time will be off. It will be Christmas before they get around to fixing them.

Guess I better go pick out something for lunch. I have 4 kinds of leftovers. Probably need to eat the oldest.

it's back to the same ole same ole  get up fix breakfast (french toast this morning) put dishes in dishwasher and go make bed scripture time... then whatever today it was veg in front of tv waste time knitting coloring or word search and keeping an eye out on the shows on tv... supper was easy left over's from last night with a slight addition... I had gotten out some chicken for tomorrow night and I wanted to see if it was thawed.... discovered one pkg was some cooked shrimp so we added that to our crab enchilada's. I'll suggest that dd take the left over's to work as we still had leftover's then back to tv and to a rerun actually don't mind them until they are overly done but then it's Hallmark mysteries
so that was my day think I am going to go to a yarn shop tomorrow see if they can help me with this pattern did the first one 20 years ago I would guess can't find it it's in dd's house somewhere.. so the 2nd one I did last year for grandson but thought the pattern wasn't complete so adjusted it and did it my way now I am doing it again for the great grandson however I am at a spot where I think I will go see what they think and maybe rethink the yarn not "in love" with the color I got youngest dd thought it would be nice but I wish I'd gone with the one I was looking at... not so far into it that I can't change my mind after all am woman allowed right???
that was some alert Shirl brought me out of the bedroom to see if all was ok!!! :?
you all have a great night

At Sterling State park tonight without power. Heavy storms went through Detroit area in the afternoon and lots of trees down. 600,000 without power! If it is not back on by noon I will leave and try the turnpike sites fir one night. Got reservations for Friday at Maumee on Lake Erie so need to call them to see if they have power. Too hot to not have it.

Tonight it is pouring down rain again and about 74. Nice breeze coming off lake luckily. But hotter tomorrow at 88. Think
It will take several days to get it all back.

Well our big storm last night petered out. We had some wind and dust and some distant lightning and thunder, but very little rain here (.01 of an inch). Most of the storm stayed south of here.

I don't think it even hit 100* today but extremely humid. Supposed to stay in the low 100's this week with a drop in humidity.

Picked up some spaghetti after work from my favorite Italian place. That will last me for several days. Then I stopped at WM for a few things. They have no checkout clerks, just self check-outs and it was very busy. First, I couldn't get the paper plates to get checked because the UPC code was distorted. Then I had two potatoes that were .88 cents each but no label. I tried to look them up in the produce screen but no potatoes on there. I ended up leaving the potatoes and plates behind. Then I tried to pay with cash but it wouldn't accept it. Then I noticed a tiny sign next to the check-out screen saying "no cash", so I had to get out my debit card. Now I need to go to the bank to put the cash in my account. I really hate the "no cashier" trend there now.

Got some pretty nail polish with glitter that will look nice on my toes for the wedding. I found out my old manager from Vista Great Clips, who will be at the wedding, recently got divorced. Her husband ran off with a younger woman last summer and moved to Florida. She is dealing with it well tho, lost over 70 pounds so far and looks great and has a new boyfriend. Can't wait to see her in person! There will be two others from the shop there so it will be a fun time!

Have a good night!

My dress and sandals...

There are little shiny gold dots on the dress all over that aren't showing in the first photo but are really pretty in the light. You can see some of them on this one.Image

My nail polish... the glitter isn't showing much here but is sparkly.

Nce dress Barbie!
It was 106 in Roseville Wednesday and will be close to that for next 5-6 days! Ugh
Other than Chris to PT. I stayed quiet as my right knee is acting up and I think it's related to my back issues. Hope day off it helps as when I tried to get up this morning, I could barely put weight on it.
Not much else happening this week. I did have 2 watercolor classes to entertain me today!

I'll second that, Barbie! Very nice dress, one that I would have loved to have in my closet back in the days when I still wore dresses. Thanks for posting the photos. I like the sandals, too.

Got you beat, Velda. :? Checked my thermometer last evening at about 5:00 p.m., it topped out at 110 degrees!! I am seriously dreading the high temps that the rest of the week has in store.

I hate hot weather, but I guess it is really hot everywhere this summer - was reading online this morning that Sicily hit a record (still awaiting verification) when they topped out at 120! :( Glad I'm not in Sicily!! :(

Sorry to hear about your knee, Velda. Hope you are soon on the mend.

meant to mention Barbie your dress is really cute...
there is a song that I was reminded of when you mentioned your friend and losing weight and getting a boy friend
but I'm not coming up with it.... but the story that the song tells is how her husband leaves her a note telling he is leaving her... so she whatever the phrase is wish I could remember it it's a really cute song she goes to NYC gets a make over goes to a lake that her husband said was to far away and had a ball just different things like that
it will come to me later I am sure
