First Saturday of August

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

First Saturday of August

Postby Colliemom » Sat Aug 07, 2021 8:26 am

Morning. Just a quick check in to get the Coffee started. Heeding out in a short bit here to pick up JudyJB and then head to Gaylord Farmers Market. After that, we will see what kind of trouble we can get into. Anybody know how much is in the bail fund

You probably figured from my above paragraph, that since I am picking her up, it will be with my truck and not my tractor and cart  Yep, got my truck back yesterday :D So nice having my freedom back. Looks great and Thry gave it a Covid cleaning, so I side is looking super as well.

Went shopping with my neighbor yesterday and restocked my larder. Will pick up some things tomorrow after church from Meijer, where we didn’t go.

Guess I had better get this show on the road. Have a great day all.

Sue, you and Judy have a good visit. They talked about the farmers market at a town near here on the news last night. It is next to the canal where the shrimp boats come in. If it's shrimp season you can buy shrimp right off the boat. Can't get much fresher than that. Our farmers markets don't have much produce, mostly junk and canned food. I'm not sure if it shrimp season or not but my freezer is full. That place will be packed so don't want to be around a crowd.

Good morning to all. I'm up early today - I like to watch Fonz and Porter quilting show - comes on at 6 a.m. was awake any way so got up. I watched another sewing show a couple of weeks ago and got the bright idea to make a wall hanging from a photograph. This is just the beginning step. Now comes all the quilting and detail stitching.
Image
it is 20 by 16 - all pieces of fabric. Everything - if it goes right - all of it will be enhanced with machine stitching.
We woke up this morning to heavy smoke covering the valley. Can't even see the hills behind us. I guess it is coming from one of the California fires. Wind is supposed to change direction by Tuesday and maybe more rain will come.
Finally NASCAR is back on TV - at least it is something to pass the time. Earlier this week we got out to check out a bagel bakery and an authentic French bakery. OMG. Glad they are on other side of town. Neither place was real busy, in fact the French bakery has closed their cafe and cut back on their sales because they can't find staff .
Bill is already talking about going to Mexico this winter - he wants to leave earlier than we usually do. Wants to stop at all the little towns we used to go to as he feels this might be our last winter there. He'll be 85 this fall and one eye is going blind.
I just hope this Covid crap gets controlled soon. Not the way I want to spend my final years sitting around. Hoping the booster shot gets approved soon.
Have a fun day together, kind of wanted to see a picture of the two of you going down the road on a tractor....

Morning Sue and All, life is so boring I can’t find anything to post. Humidity is still high so just staying home. Did venture out for a haircut wearing a regular mask. I have the N95 which I hope helps with humidity but it has two straps that wrap around your head. Makes it difficult to cut hair around straps. Our local farmers market is very popular so very crowded. I’ll wait until next week and take a ride to Godfreys Farm Store. Homemade ice cream and half an apple pie sounds good. Carol’s comment about Sue and Judy riding down the road on a tractor will have me smiling for a couple of days. Many years ago I read a French saying “fall back so you can jump higher” which is how I have handled my life. I’m in the fall back mode now and trying to handle current events. I am so very disappointed in our country. Be safe

Good morning Sue, Martha, Carol 7 all!

Sue. have a good time with JudyJB! Martha, there is nothing better than fresh seafood right off the boat. That's how we buy our crabs, off the boat & steamed. Carol, I saw the pictures of the bakeries you visited. The pasties looked wonderful! Shirl, you snuck in just as I was getting ready to post. I understand your frustration in our country. I feel the same way.

We're having a lazy day today and may go out for a drive and take pictures. Steve wants to post some of the baseball memorabilia he's been collecting on Market Place to see if there are any takers. We will have rain moving in this afternoon. I understand from friends on FB that our home in FL have been getting quite a bit of rain. How I wish we could share that with our friends out west.

Take care and stay safe.

Sue, on doing some checking on the bail fund, I have discovered that it likely won't be enough!

Oh my goodness! I started out just reading your post, and only looking at the photo out of the corner of my eye, thinking it was a photo from one of your Mexican excursions! Then my eyes pretty much popped out when I looked directly at it. It is really, really lovely - I quite like quilts, and have gone to several quilt shows in the past, just for fun. . . but yours is head and shoulders above any that I have ever seen!! Including the quilt made by a friend that won Best In Show at a local county fair!

The design is very unusual, and quite unique! I don't think I have ever seen anything quite like it! A WINNER for sure!

Um. . . do you sell your quilts?

I am with you there about a thousand percent. I FOR SURE never thought I would be sitting around so much! I have always been physically active, and a big taker of long walks. Most of that has stopped over the last year-and-a-half. My area is pretty much "anti-vax hoax city", no one wears a mask. One of my neighbors was constantly texting me with the lasted vaccine conspiracy theory and anti-mask "updates" until I finally asked them to stop.

It has become dangerous here - even now, few wear masks and these like to confront people - like me - who do, so I just avoid going for walks in order to avoid confrontation.

Anyway, enough whining.

Hope you can get to your beloved Mexico this year.

Thanks.

Carol, we have terrible air quality in Utah, expected to last through the weekend, too. Yesterday our air quality was good. How fast things change. Ours is due to the California fires also. Walking Ty was hard this morning. It'll be an interesting couple/few days. Except when absolutely necessary I'll be inside.

Also, Carol, I'm really looking forward to seeing the end results of that quilt. It's already showing the beauty.

Sue and Judy, have a great time.

I miss local farmers markets.

Home sweet home. Was glad to come home yesterday from the smoky skies down south. But actually yesterday wasnt as bad as Wed and Thursday. Came home to just kind of hazy in spots. Today we have clear blue skies and no smoke.....wahoo. Been outside watering and collecting produce. I like to scald my tomatoes and remove the skin then slice them and put them in a container in the fridge. For some reason I find the skins kind of tough so this solves that problem. Think I will have a tomato sandwich for lunch. I was going to go to the Farmers market this morning but then thought better of it. Guess I am back in my bubble due to the fact this is not a voluntary mask wearing county either, I will wear mine proudly and I dont give a dang what someone says. Took out a small meatloaf to have for dinner. So that part is solved.

Sue and Judy out and about today....have fun. I did accomplish something when down south. Got my car washed at my favorite car wash place. They have free vacuums, cloths, and cleaning spray. So finally got the dust out of the car, windows cleaned and a darn good vacuuming, only took about an hour LOL Today I need to organize a few supplies for painting as I am getting ready to start painting my trim. About time dont ya think, has only been months since I had my windows put in and need to fix the trim where they had to re nail it back up. Just waiting for it to cool down a bit before I tackle that job.

Very smoky here, with a heavy smoke overcast - looking out my window, it looks like it is nearing sunset - at 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon. Temps are a bit lower, due to smoke blocking the sun. The quality of light has a definite orange glow to it.

Air quality is "unhealthy", so Joe will need to forego his twice-daily "toss the ball" romp, and I changed the filters on my HEPA machine, and also my furnace/ac filter.

I'm thankful it isn't worse.

Past “Good Morning” so how about “Hi! How ya doing?” My excitement for the last couple of days has been watching the exodus of motorcycles on HWY 50 headed to the rally. If one road is any indication of the attendance this year it’s going to be a big. Another one of our infamous governor’s COVID super spreaders.

My appointment for my foot on Tuesday was to make a mold of a fitting of a brace. I am supposed to go the Sioux City, IA to get it September 13. Well in the last two days my foot has pretty much quit hurting. So if this continues until Monday I’m going to call and tell them to hold off making the brace unless I call them again. I can’t believe this is happening after four months….not that I’m complaining.

The owner of the local wholesale greenhouse drove by the other day while I was watering plants. He stopped and gave me a bunch of fresh homegrown tomatoes! What a treat! Couldn’t wait to make a BLT! Lyle’s wife is in poor health so doesn’t do any baking so I made some caramel rolls and gave them to him.

As far as a different place to live, I think I’m pretty happy right where I am. Not that I treasure the thought of winter or hot humid days of summer. But I am happy with the feeling of safety and security of living in a small town where everyone rallies together when someone is in need. The cost of living is reasonable. I love being close to family and friends.

If any of you watch Nexflix may I suggest Greenleaf. I’ve been binge watching it every night this week and it’s really good.

Have a good day.

Getting on here late tonight. Last night I could not get to sleep!! My mind was racing all night. I tried a pill to relax me but that didn't work. Finally, after 5am, I took a good bite out of an edible I got from work and that did the trick. I woke up at 10:30, so only got 5 hours of sleep.

I bought a 6 pack of V8 Energy drinks the other day. I tried one after I got up. Drove to the bank and the library and once I got home, was raring to go with cleaning! I spent several hours cleaning the kitchen from stem to stern. It looks really nice now! Still need to go thru the cupboards and get rid of things I don't want, mostly as far as food. Also the fridge as well. But for now, I tackled a big task. Also finally put my clean clothes away. Tomorrow is laundry day. (I now have a list of one room to clean or chore to do each day of the week. Hope I can stick to it!). I think I will be drinking that V8 more often! It tastes really good too! Next big project is cleaning up my living room. :o And then the porch when it starts cooling off some.

Sue, I love the image of you and Judy cruising around on your lawn tractor!  Hope you had a fun day!

Ann, love your quilt! Can't wait to see it when you finish it!

Shirl, we figured out ways to do haircuts with pretty much any kind of mask. We did offer the regular blue masks if we needed to, to make it easier.

As far as masks go, it makes me mad that people have to get in your face about wearing one! These are the same people who complain about having their freedoms taken away, and yet they feel they have to right to criticize other people's choices and try to stop them from doing things they don't agree with (ie; taking other people's freedoms away).

We had a palm tree fire this afternoon just south of me. There is a grove of palm trees and somehow they caught on fire, so there was a lot of smoke in the air from that, and of course the smell. I think they have the fire out now.

Karen, how do you scald tomatoes? I also don't care for the skin so much.

Pat, glad your foot is feeling better. Hope it continues to get better. I am still having pain in my left shoulder and now in my left wrist as well.

I ate half of an edible tonight so am hoping I fall asleep soon! Got more things to do tomorrow again, including 2 haircuts in the afternoon. I need to be alert!

Also want to frost my hair before the wedding next weekend. I decided on which dress I am wearing and luckily have sandals to match. Want my hair to look nice too. It looks frumpy when it is my natural darker color, along with no body to it, and it gets dirty faster. Time to frost it!

Good night! :D

Barbie as for the tomatoes Here is my procedure, takes about 5 minutes. I crosscut the end away from the stem side. I make an X cut. Place in boiling water for 45 seconds, put in cold water for about a minute. Slice off the stem end. Skin just peels away. I slice them and put them in a container in the fridge, so all I have to do is pull out a few slices whenever I want a tomato for salad, sliced, sandwich, or my all time favorite BLT.

Thanks Karen! Sounds easy! How long do they last in the fridge?
