Cool Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cool Saturday

Postby Shirlv » Sat Sep 12, 2020 10:25 am

Good morning all, windows and doors are open for a little cool air. So much sadness in the world has me struggling to post even a good morning. I had a go bag in my Rv but now thinking it might be good idea to have one here. Thought I would pass that on as there seems to be unsettling everywhere. When I moved to the shore 50 years ago gas stations closed at 9pm so got in the habit of always having a full tank. Think that is still a good idea. Sadly we need to be more aware of weather and other happenings that might impact our lives. Be safe

Good morning ! Sun is shinng through the smoke and we are supposed to get on shore breezes by tonight to help clear smoke out some. Our air quality index over night was a horrendous 305 and , even in my tight house with double filtration, we caught whiffs of nasty smoke. AQI reading has improved to 150's, still unhealthy, but better. Hope fire conditions improve through entire west coast so they can get a handle on the fires.
I have church online in a couple minutes then the rest of the medical convention. So I'll be planted in my chair today. Innovation in online platforms has certainly improved during this year. New ways to do things is good.
Looking forward to cooler fall weather. Stay safe and healthy everyone.

I've been to the store, followed by the post office, then to town to pick up orders for me and the store... Back to the store with its supplies, home with mine. Walked Ty... Ate something. And now I'm relaxing. And I have ice cream in the fridge for tonight (and several more nights).

My rig is a disaster from moving everything out that stores under my couch. I don't want to put it back until I know the replacement hot water tank is in and working. For those who know I leave too much out when in place for longer periods, this is worse. It's not as much as it looks though... It's just such a small space.

I'm glad to hear some areas are finally getting better air quality. Others I believe are worse. So sad.

Extremely smoky here today; visibility poor, the ash fall has been horrible. Have some photos if I ever get around to posting them. :?

Am keeping a close eye on the North Fire Complex. Weather has been favorable for the firefighters over the last few days, they have been building new fire lines and strengthening those already in place.

The predicted on-shore winds are a double-edged sword. A kind of Catch-22 sort of thing.

Winds are needed to get the smoke moving out of the area, smoke has pretty much stalled here, making it difficult to breathe. Making it difficult to even want to go outside.

On the other hand, any wind - at all - on active fires still burning (still about 20 large fires still burning through-out California - from "0" percent containment on up - the Slater Fire, for example, currently at 125,894 acres burned and burning, stands at "0" containment, not predicted to be "fully contained" until October 15) are likely to cause more acreage to burn.

The amount of further acreage that might burn is directly related to the strength of any wind blowing on it, and the fuels available. Still lots of fuel out there. . . :?

Mid-September, now. The annual Santa Ana winds will probably be coming soon. . .

Maybe not such a good time to be in California. Or Oregon. Or Washington state.

Oh well.

I had to shut my door because while the temps are great, the sun was beating in on that side. Unfortunately I've had to turn the air on for a few minutes to let this box cook back down. Very strange... Sat is normally the busiest day at the store. Right now it appears yesterday (Fri) will beat it. We are, thankfully, slowing down.

am back home.... left Ogden about 1:00 it's about a 4 hour drive knew I was going to stop at the fruit stands on the way as well as Wal Mart in Rexburg needed milk and a few other items... so add a couple hours on to it about 7 or so was 8 perhaps even 8:15 so tired...got peaches and nectarines some green beans and a bunch of colorful carrots... am sure that there is more...
then quick stop for a hamburger at Jack's in Pocatello then the road work that one can't even tell why the slow down I idle faster than we were going... realized that Shadow was getting off the seat not normal he has a harness hooks to his collar so thought he was falling off... he doesn't see well then it hit me phew he had pooped he never does that in the car... and no way off till the rest area never so glad to see it ... and then he does it again while I am in the store... on Thurs I had gone to eat with a friend after we eat went to Black Bear Diner for dessert we should have shared instead both of us wrapped up one of the huge brownies to take home when I remembered it was in my purse it was gone I thought it was my daughter's dog that got it... I am beginning to wonder!!! needless to say it was a long awful trip home... now after all that complaining I think about others that don't have a home to go home to and I shouldn't complain... I read on Yahoo so take it for what it is worth that a women and her 12 old grandson died in the fires I think it was the one that consumed Karen's home but not sure there are two that start with A and this one started with an A... so sad so horrible for those going through it. we have a lot of haze again but mostly around the mountains as I did see sky... when I left Utah my granddaughter was still not in school as power hadn't been gotten yet... on a good note though my granddaughter that had the gall bladder operation had the rest of the procedure to gather up any escaped stones had that on Friday morning and is going home today...haven't heard if she is home yet but wouldn't be surprised...

I only worked 3 1/2 hours today but got $35 in tips! $10/hr in tips is darn good! Our prices went up by $2 per cut this weekend. I thought that would cut into our tips, but so far most people still hand me a $5 bill anyways. Haven't done much the rest of the day, just perusing the internet. Should make a list of things to do tomorrow, or nothing will get done then either.

A little hazy today but not bad. A little on the warmer side too but nothing like last weekend.

My manager had an unruly customer come in yesterday refusing to wear a mask. She asked him to put one on and he said he shouldn't have to since the last time he came in, his stylist (me) wasn't wearing one. Well, she knew better and told him so. He got mad and left. One less idiot to deal with!

Have a good night! :D
