Cool Down Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cool Down Saturday

Postby Colliemom » Sat Jul 11, 2020 7:22 am

Morning everyone. Sun is shining here and it’s much cooler than it has been these past two weeks or more. Finally gave the boot to the upper 80’s, low 90’s heat wave. Think everybody’s glad to see it gone. We did have some rain here, but not enough. Some areas got downpours.

Nothing new to report from here. Been too hot to do anything outside, so have been puttering with some woodcraft painting and spending too much time on my IPad. Did spend an afternoon visiting over at my cousins one day. But now that it’s cooled down, I can get back to some outside stuff. And the dogs and I can enjoy some pleasant walking weather again.

First thing this morning I need to run out and pick up a newspaper for a neighbor while his wife is downstate for a couple days. He is in self imposed stay at home due to age and health issues. Then I’m going to run up to Farmers Market. Also want to see if I can get a hold of the place I took my trailer to for some maintenance work and dewinterizing. The place used to be an RV dealership but reverted back to previous owner this past winter. Now it is more just an RV storage facility and was just listed for sale again this week. They are on a by appointment only schedule this week. So I decided to bring the trailer back home and either see if another place can do what I want or I will do it myself and not dewinterize. With the virus cases on the uptick here again, the Governor mandated Face masks in all public buildings and outdoors where social distancing can’t be maintained. She is hoping it will slow the virus down so we don’t have to take a step down to the Phase we came out of last month. I might just write camping off for this year.

So, I guess I better get my act together and get changed, brush teeth and get heading out the door. Have a nice day and stay safe.

Hi Sue! I was just getting ready to leave for Custer SP with Ty. Drive around, have a picnic lunch. Then the store called with a glitch in the register. I didn't get home till a few hours later... Made lunch at home and we're relaxing. Maybe I'll try a redo tomorrow.

So far we've had more 90 degree days in Keystone than I remember from any of my other years up here. Luckily I can usually open windows overnight. Today's only supposed to be in the low 80's but tomorrow could reach 90 again.

I actually made it out the door just before 9am this morning!

Nice drive up the mountain. Stopped at Lake Hemet where there is a campground and a picnic area. I drove along the lake road and I had no idea how large the campground is! And totally full! Everyone wants to get out of the heat I guess. I was trying to figure out if I could bring my kayak up there and launch it from the picnic area but it looks like they don't allow that. They rent them at the campground but you can't bring your own to the lake. Darn!

Got to Idyllwild about 10:30 but my room wasn't ready so I went into town and picked up a sandwich at the grocery store and ate it in my car. Got checked in at noon. Nice little cottage style room with a small fridge, microwave and a little deck out front.

I rested a little and then headed further up the mountain to Lake Fulmor. I have been there before and there is a trail around it. It is just a small lake, more like a big pond but very pretty with mountain peaks in the background. Lots of people there tho! Families fishing and picnicking. Most not wearing masks. Took some pics and then headed back towards Idyllwild, stopping at some pullouts for views over the valleys. Then stopped at a trail and picnic area in the Nat'l Forest that I have driven by but never stopped at. I am glad I did. It was a beautiful walk down to the picnic area and there was a small creek running along there. I took some pics of the creek and small waterfalls. Very peaceful! The walk back up to my car was a challenge tho! Lots of slippery pine needles and I don't have the stamina I used to. I found a decent walking stick and used that to get the rest of the way up.

It is 90* here so not cool but certainly better than down in the valley! It should cool off tonight pretty good tho. I do have AC here in the room that I have on now.

I plan to go to the local nature preserve just outside of town later around 6pm. There were a ton of cars parked there earlier when I drove by so am hoping most people will be eating dinner later and it won't be so crowded and maybe not quite so hot.

Tomorrow, I will sleep in and then get some breakfast before spending the day in town. There is a little cafe down the street that has outdoor dining and good food. There is a farmers market tomorrow in town that I plan to check out. I will head back home in the late afternoon/evening once it starts cooling off some.

Hope the rest of you are staying cool! I guess it is hot everywhere!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

It was 106 today and 12% humidity. Toasty! But we stayed in, except for my walk to our mailbox. Weather people say 98-100+ rest of next 7 days. But, itis July!
I spent a couple hours off and on chatting on messenger and Marco Polo with my 10 year old Grandaughter , which was lots of fun.
Barbara, I look forward to your photos of your adventure.
Beth, hope you get that excursion in. Sue, hope it cools for you.
Hope all are having a good weekend.
